Conceived as a passion project by indie developer Takaaki Ichijo, "Back in 1995" aims to capture the distinct emotional resonance he experienced with his early gaming adventures on the PlayStation and Sega Saturn.

As a fan of survival horror and PS1-style games I must say this game is unbearably slow. I wanted to at least finish it but I can't stand the character's movement speed. It's like the game is constantly running at a fraction of the normal speed. And speaking of running, you can't even run, just walk. The enemies are also extremely inoffensive and the graphics, while trying to emulate the PS1 graphics, warp to a ridiculous extent. I'd like to support the developer/s, but this game has flaws too deep to let pass.
Definitely not for everyone. This is reminscent of the really early 3d survival horrors. Like, pre-Resident Evil 1 survival horrors. With those expectations in mind, this definitely works. It's roughness feels deliberate and with affection for its inspirations, and it definitely works to tell the game's wider story. And to be honest, for me the game's style was already my thing.
