as someone who has very limited ability to safely express themselves IRL because of my parents, I tend to do so in the digital world instead (not to sound like a complete nerd), limiting what content is on certain monitors is key for me because of that same issue but Wallpaper Engine solves that issue when it comes to wallpapers as I can have whatever I want on my main screen but keep more mundane stuff on my other ones that my parents will be able to see, probably a use case that only a very small amount of users have this app for but regardless it has been amazing for me because of this, not to mention the other infinite possibilities of customisation
(only downside i would say is you may have to lower texture quality to get some wallpapers to run at very high refresh rates like 165 Hz, otherwise I've had no issues with it)
Great tool/product, has sometimes been a little bit derpy with some of my custom windows tweaks and doesn't have linux compatibility but still a 5/5 for such an amazing tool
This is a great software to customize your Wallpaper dynamically, its cheap and with its large community wallpapers get added each day

It is pretty much THE best way to get live wallpapers on Windows (maybe Linux and Mac too but I don't use them that much...). Also the workshop wallpapers generally are pretty good. The awesome ones and the "juicy" ones if you know what I mean ;)
The only bad part is that you'll be engrossed with how much wallpapers are available, lowkey most of are high quality

GOAT for non-simple wallpapers, live wallpapers, screen personalization. There are even movie scenes, characters, game lore and all with top quality.
You can setup different items per monitor/screen and have sound reactive ones with widgets on top of them too.
You can create and publish your own, use others, and for all of my people - you have designated filter to include or exclude Anime stuff. Pay it, try it, thank me later
I really do like this product! I've used it for years at this point and it has been so much fun!
PLEASE NOTE: However, as of late (January 2025), there has been a lot more "risque" wallpapers that have popped up in PG-13 and G rated categories. As a christian, this is extremely concerning and it has made it hard to find new wallpapers without seeing something that I am trying to avoid. I've ended up sticking with a lot of the wallpapers that I have in my collection currently because of this. I really hope the developers make an effort to monitor these more and put these suggestive wallpapers into their own categories; or at the very least moderating them more to ensure they are placed in the R rated section. Why I love it:
- My PC now has more personality than I do.
- Syncs with music, so my wallpaper grooves while I cry over deadlines.
- The Workshop is a rabbit hole of memes and questionable life choices.
- Worried about FPS? There’s a blackscreen mode for that.
Minor Issues:
- My PC fan now has trust issues.

It's great, if you want animated wallpapers with a minimal performance hit, this software is for you.
I don't have any complaints, the workshop content is fantastic, the editor for making custom wallpapers is fantastic, the price is reasonable, if your computer isn't a potato and you love aesthetics, just buy it already.
10/10 Game of the Year. I cried when he said "This really has been a wallpaper engine". Infinite replayability and endless online fun. would reccomend to RTS players everywhere.

Best Desktop Wallpaper Program That Stands Out for Its Excellent Performance and Pauses the Wallpaper During Gaming to Preserve Game Performance
I haven't dealt with the creation side of things, but I love this program for collecting animated wallpapers for my PC. I like that I can save them into folders for different seasons, or topics or whatever. I don't have a high end system and it doesn't slow down my PC noticably.

Get Goo Goo Alu
really badly optimised software, playing a h265 4k hdr video and it uses 20% of my cpu somehow... Using a 9950x and rtx 4090
I build and fix computers for a living. When someone asks me, "What should be my first piece of software I should download besides additional web browsers?" I always say Wallpaper Engine. Wallpaper Engine will elevate your setup so much that I believe this software should be on every machine, including non-gamers. Best $5 you will ever spend.
This program is not as resource intensive as some might say, at least not in today's world. It works flawlessly.

tis fun and has good holiday wallpapers and just nice city wallpapers and ones with sound and allat idk just gud fuckin wallpaper software. Do be aware tho the gooners run rampant on here and it's common to find some lewd ahh wallpapers from my experience but yeah pretty fun. nice anime girls if that's ur thing ig. I just stick to the city scapes and sound reactives.
for Goodish Wallpapers i would say, it's not a bad app for steam but i do feel like it should be free, but... thats my take on it.

Wallpaper engine is probably the best and the only wallpaper that you should use if you want really good graphics. I also want to put this as a side note right here with the latest update (2.5) for anybody getting this if you're playing games with a video graphics card that has more than 8gb of vram you may Experience flickering on your secondary (and more) monitor's flickering between wallpaper engine and Windows wallpaper. what I found that fixed it is disabling pause wallpaper engine when VRAM is exhausted.
very easy to use if you want to make your desktop look good, has anything you can think of. But one thing i noticed is theres a lot of porn here, even after i put on the age filter, please fix this

Please add filter/stricter tagging for AI generated stuff, people have really flooded the workshop with slop.

and if you decide to switch to linux it wont work since its just cover up your entire screen and wont be your background

I have been years using Wallpaper Engine for many years... It has a very comprehensive collection of wallpapers ranging from uncomplicated wallpapers of nature to more complicated ones which can also be interactive. You can even design custom wallpapers and share them as well!
The application runs perfectly on my PC and does not slow my system down a lot, but I have to say that some high-end wallpapers make it lose a little bit of performance.
It is a very good app to customize your desktop as it has tons of options for everyone. It makes your desktop feel more personal and alive, and on top of that, there is always more and more wallpapers being published by people so it is impossible to get bored!

Awful software and difficulty navigating software. Cant change wallpaper as it sets to the same one which just crashes over and over again. Cant find an option to set it off that one without it bugging out. Not great for users.

this one day I was trying to tweak some settings and my friend texted me a message that says and I quote: "are you masturbating or finding wallpapers?" and it was that time i realised there's fucking porn on WALLPAPER ENGINE. Downloaded a wallpaper and got a Trojan instead. After some research it seems like it's a known problem.
Cheap price and good engine. My pc does not lag or lose its performance while running this background. Also very customizable, i love wallpaper engine.
I thought this game would be hard at first but once I got the hang of it, it wasnt that hard
