Welcome to Africa
Have you ever wanted to be president or prime-minister? Convinced you could do a better job of running the country? Let's face it, you could hardly do a worse job than our current political leaders.
Take Control of African Politics
Democracy 3: Africa is the new standalone 're-imagining' of the hit political strategy game 'Democracy 3'. Set entirely in countries on the continent of Africa, D3:A puts you in charge of these countries and challenges you to stay in power whilst fixing each country's problems, improving the quality of life for your electorate, and steering them towards greater prosperity. This turn-based political strategy game uses a unique icon-driven interface to help you navigate the most complex political and economic simulation ever seen in a computer game, custom-built on its own proprietary neural network. Democracy 3: Africa simulates the myriad interactions between voters, policies, economic and political variables, political parties and the various situations that develop over time.
Democracy 3: Africa uses the base design and gameplay from the original game but the diversity of social and economic situations in Africa presents you with new challenges and opportunities. Foreign aid and investment takes on a new meaning and often comes with strings attached. Serious issues like malnutrition and access to clean water could be a matter of life and death for the poorest. This new game will let you try your hand at governing the diverse democracies of Nigeria, Egypt, South Africa, Kenya, Ghana, Zambia, Senegal, Tunisia, Botswana and Mauritius. When you step down, will your country be in a better state than when you took up office?
Although it builds on the existing game, Democracy 3: Africa has completely new artwork, music and a series of new events and dilemmas tuned to the issues and situations that are relevant in contemporary Africa.
Can you turn your country into an economic powerhouse that competes with the strongest world economies? Is this the vision you have for your country, or are you aiming for a socialist haven? Can you improve health and education for all your people? Does a little corruption help oil the wheels of power? And can you do this whilst keeping the competing demands of the people under control?

I tried playing this today, but it crashes everytime I click play on steam
Democracy 3 Africa is, as the description states, a "standalone" version of Democracy 3. It opens via a separate launcher and, of course, does not feature any of the nations in the base game. That all being said, this version of the game is cross compatible in terms of your expansions and mods, meaning that a mod or expansion installed for Democracy 3 will work in this game. That's pretty neat, and it lends itself to why I think this version of the game is actually better than the base game in terms of things to do and deal with.
On the whole, this game plays exactly the same as the original. No big surprise there. The key differences here are the introduction of a variety of new events, variables, and challenges. Many of these touch on some heavy topics. How they are handled in this game, as well as the accuracy of the simulation as a whole, is debatable; however, I do believe that tackling these things does add a fresh perspective on the more basic suite of challenges in the first game, which are all still present in this game...for the most part.
This is not exactly base game plus, but it comes close. As with the base game, I can understand, though, mileage will vary and relatability will also vary with the limited number of countries on offer in both games. Mods make up for this a bit, but the scene is limited and unlikely to expand given that this came out...nearly ten years ago....good god...
Anyways, I recommend picking this up on sale and/or in either of the bundles this is included in, but most specifically in the "Total Democracy Bundle." I left reviews on the base game and all of the other expansions as well, if you want to check those out via my profile or through visiting the page. Suffice to say, though, sales remain king.
I love this game. It's where I go to practice my understanding of the Dictator's Handbook.
My entire population is dumb as rocks and the life expectancy is eighteen, but I managed to remove all crime, nobody is in poverty despite the GDP being non-existent (can't be impoverished when money doesn't exist) and everyone is a rice farmer now.
tl;dr I turned South Africa into the Khmer Rouge 10/10 game would commit agrarian communism again
It's fun for the duration that you don't understand how the game works and imagine the reality that exists due to your choices. The game is extremely static, essentially an if them simulator.
