Welcome to a world of magic, where people and creatures can receive magical capabilities with the infusement of magic energy from rare magical crystals. The most known crystal is the Arcane Crystal which is controlled by the Obrodian Empire, an empire of man. The spoils of war from The Great Elven War over 200 years ago. Ever since the possession of the Arcane Crystal, the Obrodians formed a special order to decide who would be infused by the arcane energies. These individuals had to pass extreme tests both mentally and physically in order to graduate. They would later be known as Arcanists. These arcanist are expert spellswords, with both combat and magic prowess. Although, they have no political power during peacetime, they are given full jurisdiction in certain areas when deployed during war, typically to hold forts, lead armies, or operate intelligence operations.
Our story begins when war has broken out between the northern kingdom of man known as Vuista. The Vuista were originally ascendants of the Obrodians, however a civil war broke out over 100 years ago over the use of the arcane crystal. Although, the Vuista were unable to obtain the arcane crystal for themselves, they were able to separate from the southern region and maintain independence against the Obrodians. Recently, the Vuista have uncovered a new magic crystal known as the “Occult Crystal”. The occult crystal allowed extremely easier blood infusions as a host would only need a small trace of the energy to harness it’s energy because the energy itself fed on blood to grow exponentially. This allowed any user to use raw magical power without the need for long training and discipline. However, because the occult energy fed on blood, it would continue to feed until the user was drained from one’s own blood. This caused the user’s flesh to deteriorate until there was nothing left leaving them a soulless husk. The Vuista used this to their advantage and infused the blood of ordinary foot soldier sending them to the frontlines against the Obrodians. The Obrodians army was much stronger and organized than the Vuista, but the charge of so many magic users took its toll on the Obrodians when the Vuista finally broke into Obrodian territory just a little over a year ago. The arcanist program was accelerated and students were sent into action before graduation. The top students were sent to the more important locations while the possible graduates were sent on patrol missions or small garrisons.
You are one of these students. You are sent away from the frontlines and more towards the south to a small mining town of Auguston. An arcanist student was sent there 6 months ago to maintain a steady shipment of iron for the war efforts and to stop any troll incursions to the west from what’s known as “Monster Mountain” where tribes of monsters make regular raids against Obrodian settlements. However, ore shipment has stopped 3 months ago and any attempt for communication has failed. You are given full jurisdiction of Auguston, tasked with the investigation and reinstatement of Auguston’s ore shipments.

Needs a lot more work at the moment. I like the concept and the direction but it feels to clunky.
Had quite a lot of potential, but alas is one more dead game in Steam's Early Access graveyard... Gotta keep telling myself not to pay for an unfinished game.
Abandoned :/ I bought it pretty early and am regretting that now. Better and more complete games are available for cheaper or free...
This is abandonware, hasn't been updated properly in at least a year, no noticeable improvement at all since it entered Alpha. DO NOT BUY!
Pretty cool start, invested because I wanted to see it develop. Came back to see how it had progressed, found out it hadn't. This isn't a game, it's a demo, and in it's inactive state shouldn't even be sold on steam.
Over full year with no updates, don't touch this game it is a hideous blot on my steam library.
This HAD potential. It was a pretty decent game when it came out. However we have not seen any updates or improvements made what so ever. At its current state I cannot recommend this game to be purchused, unless you want to have some fun for a few hours then realise thats it, nothing else will be added.
Like many gamers, I have a lot of games in my library than I have time to play them. So, when I play this game 1 year later after I purchased it, only then I realized that I have bought an abandonware. This game is so poor that it is the first game that I would like to get a Steam refund for. Too bad that it was already 1 year too late for me to get a refund. On the upside, it was cheap enough to serve as a lesson learnt for me.
To write a little on the gameplay, I only 1) walked around in the village and 2) played 2 combats and it was sufficient for me to determine that this game is rubbish. For example, I was told to talk to somebody in the inn at the second floor. I walked a few steps in the inn and the camera will swing 90 degree without making any sense. Moving another few steps and it will swing me another 90 degree, again for no reason. I have to find the second floor by strafing and walking backward in the inn. It also happend in another building, so it wasn't a flux. Enter any building and the game will take the camera control away from you.
As I was fumbling in the in, the wooden walls reflected such a strong lighting that it hurts my eyes. And I did not even change any graphics setting in the game. On the combat section, a lot of the combat commands cannot be used and I certainly could not see any kind of "potential" the rare few reviews have mentioned before.
I have always discounted negative reviews with less than 2 hours of gameplay as irrelevant as certainly, 2 hours is too short a time to give any fair review to a game. But this game totally changed my mind. It was bad enough to inspire me to write a caveat emptor review immediately.
Do not buy. Not even for a few cents.
This game had a lot of potential. I loved the consept and if devs are no longer dev'ing maybe find somebody to take over.
This game sure has potential, but it seems totally abandoned by the developer. If you read the last update news, the developer states that this game is to be developed together with the players (what a farce!). In reality there is NO communication, no updates and nothing on the discussion boards. The only thing that is happening, is an ever larger discount on the game, which leads me to believe its a final attempt to cash in on a failed EA game.
I hope the developer proves me wrong and gets the updates going and I will change my review in an instance but until then... STAY AWAY and save your cash!!!
(P.S. There seem to be no Steam Trading Cards even though stated on the store page!)
This game had a lot of potential but it's far from a finished product. Unfortunately it appears to have been abadoned. No word from the dev since August. Not even a peep.
Has potential but it's very early days. The controls are clunky with no remap available for several keys (such as run - which you will need often), you cannot turn left or right whilst running and run will randomly lock giving you no option but to mash keys in the hope it stops or reload from your last save. The very first quest is impossible without grind, collectable resources respawn almost instantly after you collect them, there is no map that I know of, and there are many other minor issues at the moment. Steer clear for now but keep an eye on it. Usually I would refund something that is this early in development but as long as they keep working on it this could turn out to be a real bargain. Fingers crossed because as it is now you are likely to just spend two hours running around picking up plants and rocks then dying.
found some initail hicups with the download and verify..
but after playing i feel this game has a unique concept and playability.
This said the work the dev's have done and hope they will continue to do is very good.
Have a go at it . *Thumbs up*
For the price, this is a very very nice game. Especially given the early level of development. I am a fan of supporting indie games. This game is one of the reasons.
So I've clocked a good chunk of hours into this game, beat it 3 times, and did everything and have followed the updates stringently. For someone who wants a AAA rpg or a generic wrapped up dungeon crawler, look elsewhere. Blood of Magic is the definition of homebrew, but that is not a bad thing. The developers are kind and keep in touch, and every aspect of this game, flawed or fabulous, is unique. I reccomend this game to those who enjoy some good turn based combat, or even town building, as raising up a small woodland town to a big fortress is a very satisfiying feeling. Watching this game grow is going to be awesome, and I'll be in Auguston (main town) for all of it.
A possible gem in the making.
So far my experiences with this game are meeting my expectations and it has given me already a good value for money. Especially the fast and dedicated responses of the development team are well worth mentioning. This I have experienced myself in direct contact. I think that here is a strong focus and a strong motivation to make this project as best as possible or even beyond that. So I am glad I took the step and did investing in this game and the people developing it. For these reasons this game gets my recommendation!
[UPDATE: 04-01-18]
At this moment it seems that development has stopped and therefore I change my recommendation into a don't buy.
[UPDATE: 31-05-20]
Definitely a no go, no buy. Abandon Ware!!
Still available on Steam shop, asking myself why Steam isn't taking this down and perhaps takes some kind of responsibility in these kind of cases! This industry needs a big change in regard to customer services.
A couple of things to say about this game.
1, Well, let me just start off by saying that the game still needs a lot of work.
2, Amazingly however, I find myself drawn to the different aspects that are offered in the game.
3, Strong points are mostly found in the micromanaging of your adventurer crew, from gathering potions to finding newmembers.
4, Though the game looks a bit shabby from afar it looks quite crisp when turning everything up to the maximum.
5, Every fight you start has an entertaining quality, though at the beginning you rage at their evading, the fights offer a lot of good points. For example:
a, Obviously the wide array of abilities and attacks that you can use on your enemies
b, Focussing on one enemy at a time, while using those special abilities, creates a wonderful combo-attack feeling.
6, Money in the game is a bit hard to come by, it's far too easy to spend all the cash in the beginning and it's not quite clear how you could make more, besides slaying enemies.
7, On the long run the areas to discover are way to few, but obviously this will be dealt with in the coming months as the game expands
8, None of the armour is bound to a single class, which I find a good thing, you can just buy armour upgrades and use it for whatever means you want to
9, Everything together looks like a fun and exciting game, though it obviously needs some finishing touches and more areas to explore, the potential of this game is very big, and it could become a very popular game, though with a niche crowd, mind you.
verdict: Yes, this game is recommendable
So I've only played an hour so far, but I have yet to win a battle. I think I technically won a battle, but everyone in my party but me died and I died on the next battle obviously. I think? I purchased new equipment in town before going out. I have some quests from town, but I can't win a battle, so I am not having any luck completing a quest. Game sounds like a good idea and it may get there, but so far, not much luck enjoying the game.
Also, I've saved my game twice now on two different restarts and neither game will load. The first one just loaded a grey screen. The second save loaded a partial view of a town with grey all around it. I appeared partially buried in the ground. I was unable to even move on either save game. So I die every battle and now I can't even try again because my save games aren't working.
The combat is long and painfull and often, which makes the pain more frequent. I never made to the first quest as I was engaged in combat four times. Each battle taking about 10 minutes and its turn based. Also, I even had to reload the crossbow (for one of fighters not me). Graphics look OK and music was nice. Wonder how the rest of the game is???
I dont do alot of game reviews lately because there isnt much to get excited about out there, and then I found this game.
Imagine a game that brings the old school feel of Dungeons and Dragons to the modern gaming platform. The world you will discover in Blood of Magic is full of mysteries and wonders. You will enter this world as the hero, an Arcanist. The Arcanist is a fighting spellcaster, using both sword and magic to deal with his enemies. There are quests to be completed to help the town you will oversee. You decide your character and your party members progression. You have the abiltity to build new buildings, upgrade them, hire new unique party members, gather resources, craft new items and more. You take control of your party members in turn based combat against challenging enemies. You decide who you want in your party based on their abilities and the situation. With the gear you craft and aquire, you can outfit your character and party members. There are unique and power items awaiting your discovery. Powerful bosses threaten the peace of your town, will rise to the challenge?
The quick responses from the developers at Stoneworks Games have earned my trust in an early access. The game is currently alot of fun, and there are plans to make it even better. If your looking for a good old school style RPG but enjoy the beautiful graphics of todays games, give this product a try, you wont be let down.
