It is a simple and yet fun game. Perfect for those who like paranormal games but are bad at the bigger ghosts hunting games

A little overwhelming at first, but a great game. The loc is... adequate. Some small issues with terminology and the writing can be a bit ho-hum sometimes.

Very anime, down to the OP playing for every new chapter.

I think the art were OK, and the story seems interesting. But 1 point that make this game so bad is just there is no tutorial!! You go play the game and they gave you everything without tutorial, and it's a huge drawback for visual novel. For example, they only gave you an icon without telling you what this icon was and it's affecting the story, and one more thing, you can't save in the middle of the progress.

If you curious, get it when it's on sale coz I just bought this for just 1$

I think it's honestly more of a VN than a RPG, and it is obscure as fuck.
Enjoyable, but not groundbreaking.

Not much of a review as I didn't even finish the first fight, but still..
Very bad explanation of game mechanics (especially the Senses which I only know about due to the lackluster manual's controls explanation), uninteresting writing(maybe due to translation error, but as I cannot read Japanese so), and mixed feelings about the art.

The character designs and the cutscenes have a real charm to them, but the background are fine at best, a stretched out mess at worst. And when I saw the Battle Mode Map, I gave up on the game. Plenty of games got such a map, and I think they can be used well. But as a map to pull up or have in the corner. Having that as the actual map instead of showing proper visuals just pulled me out of the game.

There's things I see and get hints of that makes me interested in knowing what's are further into the game, but the hurdles aren't worth it. If they ever make a remaster or remake with more work behind it, I would be interested in giving it a look. But this, I just cannot get into.

Played this on Psvita a long time ago

Not the biggest fan of VN's but this game did surprised me. It's not gonna win any awards but overall it's a solid fun game to kill some time on if you have nothing to do.

First things first, you pretty much NEED a controller to play this game. There's no mouse support whatsoever and the keyboard controls (wasd+uiojklnm+space+backspace+enter) are weird, uncomfortable and cannot be remapped.
With the controller they're quite comfy though.

Another point of contention is the original five senses system which you often use in the VN portion of the game; there's no way to tell what will cause what effect so I unashamedly used a walkthrough to get the route I wanted.

Now that that's out of the way, this is definitely a strategy game at core, a SRPG but with an interesting simultaneoous turn movement - you have to predict where the ghosts will move and position your characters to attack all the possible spaces where they may move. I thought I'd hate it at first but once I figured out how to play effectively it became quite enjoyable, I even started playing the optional side missions for the sheer fun of them.

This game is a true hidden gem, if you have a controller you should definitely give it a go. It deserves the recognition.

Let me begin this by saying this review does not mean the game itself as bad. Rather, this port is bad. And not bad in a horrible way, so let me explain, but before: TL/DR: Trashy port. Buy it if you can't play this game on a PSP, PS3 or anywhere else.

So, for the details: I can't say that this game is good or bad since I did not play it for long (I asked for a refund). This game has been a perfect copy/paste of its original PSP version . What this means is that it is horrible to play it on a keyboard, a gamepad is necessary for you to play it comfortably. It also means you can't even quit the game properly. Yes, that is true. There is no in-game option for you to quit. You need to get up and do an alt+F4. Man, this is not that big of a deal, but c'mon, talk about a shitty port!

So as I said, avoid this steam version, only go for it if you know this game is good and really want to play it and you cannot do so on a console.

Has its faults but certainly is a decent VN - Board game hybrid. Deserves better than a mixed review. Far too much grinding is needed at endgame, however, leading me to just Youtube the ending.

It's not perfect, but damn if I don't love the character interactions, the customization, and the gameplay. Definitely deserves more than a piddling Mixed review.

Worth it even at full price (which is currently $10). Controls are kinda weird, but they are easy to get used to. Enjoyable story and the gameplay isn't bad either.

Only real negative thing I have to say about it that there aren't any consequences (as far as I could tell) to choosing the wrong options with the dialogue wheel thingy.

I read the reviews already, but it's... beyond my expectation.

The design and art is so pretty, prettier than I expected, might be even the prettiest VN I've ever played so far.

And the gameplay is even more obtuse and confusing that I expected.

But damn if it doesn't look cool though.

Tokyo Twilight Ghost Hunters would be an okay game if the controls weren't so thoroughly horrible. If you are going to buy this game, make sure you have a controller to play on, preferably an Xbox controller as those are the button prompts that show up in-game. Even then, there are a lot of hidden menus and sub-menus that are not discussed in the game or its manual (like how to talk to characters between missions) which you will need to discover to get the most out of the visual novel elements.

Tokyo Twilight Ghost Hunters is a port of a PS3 and Vita game. It is a visual novel, mixed in with a life simulator and a JRPG. As the main player, you end up falling into the role of a ghost hunter.

While the description sounds interesting, it ends up being executed in a very poor fashion. To begin with, the emotions system used in this game is just terrible, it is a prompt based system that uses icons with no explanation on how it works, what the icons do or represent or what the outcome of them will be, as a direct result, new players are going to be fumbling around, doing things they never intended because of it.

The combat system is a basic JRPG system with one, giant, annoying flaw. Comabt movement takes place on a grid like a board game, you have to try and "predict" the actions and movements of the spirits, or all you'll do is waste your turn. Each event has a time limit and every round uses what appears to be a minute, it is a incredibly slow, clunky and frustrating affair.

The character art work is really great, but the backgrounds look like they are just actual photos of real places with a blurry filter put on them, which feels super lazy.

The game is also very heavily a visual novel, so expect to spend A LOT of time just scrolling through text.

I wanted to play this on the Vita, but noticed it was cheaper to get it on STEAM. In the end, I am going to end up refunding this product, because honestly, it sucks. This genre of paranormal gameplay is sorely lacking, they could have went in a million different directions and in the end, they took a great idea and just ruined it.

An interesting tory with likeable cast of characters. You are a new student at Kurenai High School at Shinjuku, a real life district at Tokyo that has the high frequency of reported supernatural sighting. And of course, like an normal anime protagonist, you was draged into many supernatural mishaps by a mystery puplishing company, Gate Keeper. The story was divided into 13 "anime episodes", monster of the week format but got more plot related the further you go into the story, with each own opening and ending sequences.

The gameplay however need sometime to get used to and can be complicated at some point. So I recomend you dod a little bit research first before diving in.

Overall, it's an okay game, but I believe that it's a bit overpriced for what it offers, because

+ the controls are very weird, but after a while you can get the hang of it
+ the battling and scenarios are repetitive, and get boring real fast
+ the "senses" options are very confusing, and I never know what to choose to not make things awkward

Anyways, I got tired of this shiz real fast, and I'll forever ponder on why I spent 15 bucks on it

Tokyo Twilight Ghost Hunters is a special role-playing game. Mixing in a visual novel style for its storytelling. Combat is engaging; but complex and crammed with confusing mechanics. Be warned—this game is very tough to learn and very specific. Which is the largest negative to be found. Not only are there so many variables you will have to learn just to get equipment or stats. But the daybreak edition of this game on steam has ramped up the difficulty enormously from its original release.

If you can get past the controls, there's so much to love. All of the characters are likeable and the new daybreak sequences help evolve ones who felt a bit one dimensional in the original. The choices you make in the game also have various consequences that aren't just about what ending you will get. These can change and add new parts to the plot, recruit new characters and even unlock new scenarios. Theres even a great twist thats very suprising.

Many people will be drawn to the game from the beautiful artwork and animation techniques. But Tokyo Twilight is so much more than that. It's a fully fledged role-playing game. While combat can be confusing and clunky. It's rewarding to master. Highly recommended for JRPG fans, especially ones who want something fresh and unique but short enough to not overstay its welcome.

Let’s shoot the crimson sky, with guitars and stairway to heaven.

1 minute you got one last attempt towards your ghost target, you’ve got to close him out and finish the job. Yeah tactical fights are self explanatory with team management. Although it seems complex with all these items, skills, effects and stuff but more often than not, all you need is to consider ghost intention and how to get behind it. Don’t think about getting by without grind. No, No, No.

All executions are time limited which is kinda annoying at high difficulty, running through map may take your whole mission time, I can mention more fight faults. It’s forgivable but the main hero is blank, no emotion, no backstory what so ever. If not for other interactive characters and funny emotion system, I would be annoyed. Rock music is the major attraction and style, along with animated dialogues and CG’s. It doesn’t feel like playing VN honestly, since romances and choices are simple. It’s fun episodic adventure with more and more challenging and tactical fights later on.

I have to mention PC port. It is empty. We have no menu options at all. It’s a joke you can’t rebind that odd keyboard set up. Making fights or even dialogue - nightmare, no mouse support. Still you know what? Screw it. Tokyo Twilight gave me a good addictive joy, overall for that price my judgement is positive.

Finished this game in just over 30 hours. To play this, you must be an avid Visual Novel reader and turn-based strategy x board game lover in the first place. Anyone else would probably quit the second they saw how exactly the ghost hunting works.

Let's start with the positives. The graphics and animations are the saving grace and best feature of this VN. The water paint art style is fantastic, the animation looks doubly fantastic (especially the blushing scenes, I would Love + Kiss you every time as long as it makes you blush, Sayuri), the characters looks triply so, and when coupled with the pop rock? (I have no idea how to define music genres) music and ghost hunting theme, it makes one helluva experience that beats every Ghostbuster games to ever exist in the world. Although I am aware that the Ghostbuster games are terrible.

The music was above average. While there were times where it definitely outstayed its welcome - not to mention the bug at the final boss music where it UNDERstayed its welcome by playing only one time, leaving me in terrible silence as I kill countless brain cells to finally beat it after 2 hours of loading and calculating - most of the time, it sets a fantastic mood where you feel like you're hanging out with your friends, chatting and having fun and ghostbusting etc.

So it's kinda a shame where the above are probably the only good points of the game. The story is content thin, to say the least. While there are certainly some fantastic arcs: the awesome rocking dude jamming a soul into existence and exorcising it, the womanizer's redemption who attempts to exorcise his dexeased girlfriend who passed away due to a fatal disease and turned into a ghost to stay with him, only to slowly deteriorate and eventually lose her humanity, and even a car race scene with easily some of the coolest animation I've seen. I must say that despite its flaws, I quite enjoyed the game.

However, the story arcs are only good individually. Every character has at best one or two story arcs to themselves - and nearly all of them have only one individual a.k.a story arc - and they quite literally don't show up for most of the time later on. There is not even a 'common' arc where everyone shows their faces once in a while to make a comment or two, so you can imagine how empty I felt when this rather cool yakuza character shows up, fought a Vatican witch hunter (whoever ghostbusted the ghost first wins), and then vanish from the story entirely, never to be seen ever again except at the headquarters where you get to chat and choose 1 dialogue choice before having to wait for the next story arc to chat again.

It was seriously a WTF moment, because the game seriously has the vibe to become something as great as the Persona series. It even had a bloody amazing twist at the end that again totally had the potential to become oh-so-awesome, but because the developer ran out of budget or something everything but the graphics and animations feel as bare as bones. I mean, just look at the gameplay. The fact that the MINI BOARD GAME is probably more fun than the actual core gameplay speaks volume of how boring it can be for anyone who's not a die hard turn-based strategy fan.

And I don't even want to talk about the game's crafting. Suffice to say, I still have no idea what upgrades my lab and unlocks new craftable items, and there's no real way to farm the materials you want. It's more RNG than anything. The item shop falls into this category as well, although thankfully it offers a much bigger variety of equipment than the fucking lab and literally saved me from being clubbed to death late game.

All in all it wasn't a bad experience. Like I said earlier, Sayuri and the miko blushing is enough to brighten my mood all the way till next month. It's just unfortunate to see something with such a great theme and potential to have such thin content that it feels like a tech demo. Persona is already kinda ghostbusting already with the Shadows and everything, but man do I wish this game was something like that. I'd buy it for $60 in a heartbeat.

Considering it was a ported PS version, it is understandable that it would somewhat difficult to play without a controller. It was probably the one time where I've actually had to print out the gameplay controls to get a handle on it.

Pros:
-Beautiful character sprites(animated)
-No grammar or spelling mistakes
-Good dialogue and good chemistry between characters
-Romanceable characters
-Interesting RPG mechanic
-The game is divided into chapters, each serving almost like an anime episode
-Noteworthy CGs. No 18+ stuff. Nevertheless stunning.
-Very good story-wise

Cons:
-Confusing conversation wheel(?): Selecting a combination of intent(friendly, angry, flirtatious, sadness and questioning) with the 5 senses. Usually leads to confusing and usually unintended actions and reactions from characters
Ex- Heart(Flirt) + Tongue= sudden kiss.
Ex- Question mark(question) + eye= quizzical look
It seems that most sites will not give you a definite answer to what each combination does for certain, which leads me to believe that its effect depends on context. Oh right, the wheel sequence is timed so if you dont answer in like 20 seconds it will progress without you; sometime the characters will call you out for "ignoring them or staying silent" Though I've heard this wheel and fumbling around with it is supposed to give you the idea of what it means to be socially awkward. You try to do things often not getting the result you intended.
-Noncustomizable UI, so you'll really need to get that instructional manual.
The RPG game is rather luck based, though I feel that can be overlooked.
-Romancing is somewhat difficult since it forces you to be mean to the opposite gender of certain person you are trying to romance. If you want a girl you'll have to be mean to the guys vice versa. Of course I'm referencing the PS versions. Since it seems like a direct port all the info should be factual.

Rating: 8.5/10
Customizable UI and clarity onto the conversation wheel would make it golden IMO.
