Game Input.
Element supports keyboard, mouse, keyboard and mouse, touch on supported platforms, and a game controller. Any method of input can be used at any time. Our preferred input method is a game controller with rumble support.

Game controller support on Windows and macOS uses native input libraries and supports XInput devices where possible. Supported platforms also allow rumble and lighting for selected controllers (eg. PS4 or XBox One Controller), and the ability to connect game controllers at any time. Legacy input requires game controllers to be connected before the game launches.

Game Speed.
The game speed can be adjusted using the -/+ keys to super-slomo and accelerate time while playing. Use '0' to reset to normal speed. Pause in-game using the menu button on the right side of the screen, pressing 'P' or 'Escape' on the keyboard, or using the menu/option button on your game controller. The game view can be fully controlled while the game is paused.

Screenshots.
You can save a screenshot to your standard pictures folder using '.' on the keyboard. Use 'Shift+.' to take a high-resolution screenshot.

In-game you can toggle free-camera mode using 'Shift+Alt+C' to fly around slowly, and use 'Shift+Alt+M' to toggle menu visibility. The free-camera mode can be used while playing or paused and is intended mainly for beauty shots rather than gameplay.

Notes.
The game requires a vertical resolution of at least 640px and our recommended minimum resolution is 720p. The game will happily render up to 4K/2160p. Linux support for Element is considered experimental but we are continuing to support it.

To ciekawa destylacja gatunku i esencja skirmishu.

A bite-sized, distilled microcosm of city-builder style RTS, and the associated delicate balancing act of attack, defense, and economy. It is tremendously fun to play, and it is very easy to get into the flow of.

The game has a very good difficulty curve. The opponent isn't so good as to make the game difficult per-se, but it will punish you if you play like a doofus. You will very quickly pick up on how to optimize your play, and making builds to get high-scores on each of the planets is a lot of fun.

The resource system is really cool, and adds a lot of depth to the game. Your resource towers generate energy -- which is infinite -- but mines increase your score and is finite. Figuring out how to secure mines while increasing your energy income without dying OR killing your opponent too quickly is super fun, although I wish that there was some punishment from throwing lvl 1 mines down seconds before the enemy base is destroyed. It feels like it undercuts the balancing act of securing the resources vs. getting energy. Maybe if a secured mine only gave 80-90% of the unmined resources at the end this would be fixed, but maybe that would drag out matches too long, I dunno, I'm not a game designer.

I really like that it's possible to play *too well* and that if you kill the enemy too fast you don't get the full yield of the mines: it adds a great layer of depth to the game and encourages you to "play the map" rather then just attacking and defending base locations. This is something that even the greats like StarCraft II can struggle to do well at times, so kudos to the dev(s) for that!

Some last minor criticism:
The menus are s l o w, and I wish that there was a way to speed past the (very pretty) animations in the menu. It takes me, like, a full minute to go from a match's end screen to quitting the game, most of which is animation. Please speed these up.

The sound effect balancing is bad. The music, voice alerts, and game effects are not adjustable separately, so it's reeeeeally hard to hear the voice cues. I wish that either the voice was louder, or there was a way to change the audio balance.

I wish that the keys were remappable. Something about the keymapping feels... wrong to me, and I wish that there was a way to play around with these settings.

Also, while we're talking about the controls, I wish the game would tell me all of them. I was goofing around and hit the "B" key and found that it centered on my base. Cool! Why doesn't the game tell me that anywhere? Please give me a full list of controls.

In any case, this game is great, and for the ~$6USD I paid, I would say that it's well worth it, and hope to see it updated with more content in the future.

I like this game, the fast paced, simple RTS is a great feel that is unique. but. there is not enough in the game for the price. and, the 2 last planets are crazy bs on difficulty.

so yeah, while I think it's neat, I would NOT recommend it.

Simple and relatively fast game. Any AAA title RTS broken down to it's basic core components: 1: Get resources. 2: Defend against attacks 3: Counterattack.

My biggest negatives for this game are the menus. They're all "interactive" (like the very first DVD movies, everything was flashy and had moving parts, and took about 20 minutes to load up the actual movie) Every menu in this game is like that, so it takes a while to just quit the game (without using alt+F4). 2nd downside: There are no volume controls; Music, VO and SFX are all set at one level, and cannot be adjusted, without adjusting your speakers/headphones, which ofc adjusts everything.

That said; this is quite fun, atleast the first two planets, and the graphics are pleasing. Easy to spot areas to expand/defend/attack, with visuals to match.

Final impressions: This game seems more like an Apple/Android release, ported to PC, than an actual PC/Mac/Console release. Still a fun experience for those who want something that won't take up several hours to complete each planet. Fast and simple (not necessarily easy), and it's current discount makes it well worth the purchase.

Even though it is bare minimum RTS , I can not find it in myself to recommend this game.
Here's why..

It is not persistent only instance based kind of like Command & Conquer or other RTS games.
You would think the creator would at least make it persistant so you can claim all the planets and not start over every time the game match ends. But no!
Its a very deceptive matching system , that is designed to look like a space sim but act like a bare minimum RTS.

Pros:
nice graphics

Cons:
poor execution and lazy development on the part that the game is only instanced based vs ai
it sells as if you'll be able to conquer the solar system, in reality you'll just beat a mat and have a high score. Then you'll go to the next planet "match" and do the same thing.

OVERALL:
VERY disappointed at the deception of this game!
Not worth the money.

Needs a bit more balance work but overall a fun short game

Lack of economy balance makes rushing energy production not just a strong strategy, but an outright broken one. Spam lvl 3 resource hubs (not mines) fast enough and you dont even really have to defend them. Just be sure to always send drones for drops and once your energy production is high save a bit. Then send an air defense followed by a few air attacks (defense protects the whole caravan) straight at their main base. While waiting for it to arrive attack and steal any existing mines. Once the attack caravan arrives dump more attack hubs right on top of their base and easy win for even the hardest level. Only thing you have to pay attention to is making sure you take control of all the mines before using up the whole build limit, but that's pretty easy. Only fix i can think of for that would be to make energy production not purchased directly with energy. Maybe another economic resource to balance with it but that would obviously increase the complexity of the game.

About 3 hours of gameplay total - 77 points on my first run. Nice atmospheric game - feels a bit more like a puzzle game than an RTS depth-wise but that was kinda the whole goal based on the store description.

Great little game. It's fun to figure out the balance of land/sea/air based on the maps. Also how aggressive you should be. Has all the elements of larger RTS like rush vs turtle vs econ. Fun, simple.

(Failed to run on linux/Nouveau; played on W10)

I was on the fence.

I don't really enjoy the gameplay, but that has to do with taste, not because the mechanics are any bad.
Looks like everything is available from the start. That means repetitiveness hits quickly, but then again, it's a simple, cheap game.
The interface is sleek and clever. I like it, and the controls are great.
It's visually rather confusing, yet it looks good in slomo.
I was tempted to recommend, but...

In the end, two things tip the thumb towards the floor:
- There are no sound options. When one puts music in a game, one needs to put a control allowing to pipe it down. Independently from the rest of the audio. Those high pitch metallic notes are way too aggressive.
- No saving. It's not just that you can't interrupt a game, it's 1 player per PC only. The planets are locked as if the game is a campaign, which is totally inconsistent. So there is no saving system whatsoever, only unlocking things that shouldn't even be locked in the first place.

Two little things for some people (like the deaf and the speedrunners,) two basic requirements for the rest of us.

I love the look of the game - I am sucker for the low-poly thing.
This game is a bit like Planetary Annihilition.... without all the details xD
No, seriously, the planets look nice the gameplay is very couch friendly (controller works smoothly)... but the difficulty makes this game easy to learn but hard to aster, I am only 4 planets in and the AI enemy beat me to pulp every time.
Challenge accepted, I'd say!

For 12EUR and with a native Liniux version, this is a definitve buy recommendation.

I'm really impressed with the graphic design, that's why I bought this game at first glimpse, it is almost a game I've dreamt of.

But the game mechanic is pretty disappointing.

The bigggest issue is that the mechanic make players have to carefully protect the enemey while not die to it. If you killed your oppenent without taking the mines, you might lose accidentally (which is not a rare situation, since your mines can be took down by enemies in a fight). This makes the game very tough and frustrating when the enemy starts really strong, and it is very annoying when you lose a game you shaw have won.

The second issue is about the building design: everything looks TOO similar. As an RTS game, it is very critical for players to make quick decisions. If players cannot differenciate a building at a glimpse, it will be very hard to make fast and strategic decisions. Also the mines are really hard to find, you have to scroll all around to find them or remember their locations, if they are unfortunately occupied by enemy, then good luck.

Other than that, the game is still fun, but really hope to see improvements.

Just played this for the first time. I really like it! I can tell its going to be a unique and different type of space strategy game, and graphically beautiful. I initially had a problem with getting the game to work with my Razer Mamba mouse, but found the glitch was being caused by another peripheral being plugged in (joystick). Works perfectly and I'd recommend this.

Dont get me wrong this is not a bad game. The concept and execution is almost flawless. It is so much fun ... ... for the first half an hour or so. Because the first half an hour of gameplay is the ONLY type of gameplay you can expirence. It is extremely repetative. WHile the game tries to mix up the gameplay by adding new challenges, which certainly make me play slightly different, the overall expirence each planet follows a semi-consitent pattern: Mine resources, build either attack/defense, wait for AI to respond. While different AI respond at varing difficulties of hardness, there is just not much to do in the game after conquering a planet. If you destroy the enemy home base you get rewarded with minerals . . . that don't do anything. The planets get harder (as you expect) but nothing changes, there is no overarching goal (unless you count completion) that you really care about. It is a fantastic game, with flaws to be expected for an indie developer, but this better suites a free game or app store game rather then an almost 15 game on steam.

I like the product, give me more, and price it accordingly.
(Average score is 5/10, this means mediocre)

Graphics: 7.5/10 ~ Stylized and fit the theme, the actions are engaging, movement is fluid and the overall look of the games seems polished.

Gameplay: 6/10 ~ Fun at first and engaging in its concept, but stale after just the first four planets for me

Depth: 4/10 ~ Easily the worst category, while there are four types of building with varing power level, there is little in the way of upgrades, unlockables, tower agments, or anything of the sort. The variety in the game is enough, I think, but really could use more variety.

Potential: 8/10 ~ Unlike other games which are mediocre from the ground up, that entertain you for an hour AT MOST with no meaningful value, this game screams strategy in a starcraft 2 sort of way. Its an RTS but mixes the graphics up, the system of gaining resources and puts it in a simple package that can be understood by anyone. On a tangent, I use to play modded minecraft when I was young, and I remember having to read multiple wiki pages to play the mods I enjoyed watching on youtube, it was more a strain on the layer. The creators of this game have taken that and while compressing it left enough gap in skill to facilitate an angaging RTS. I could see my friends and I play this game against eachother, in four or even eight player maps.

This game has the potential to be a fun and interactive expirence, we just need more depth to the gameplay. more of the good stuff that will keep us playing. You have built a great foundation, I hope you build it up.

Overall: 6.75/10
While Iwould not reccomend buying this product right now, check back after a few updates, this is a clear example of a diamond in the rough. I just want the game to become what It can so clearly become, I don't want to rail on it or discredit the developers hard work; sometimes its just nice to take a step back and look at your creation.

I will keep this nice and simple.

The game is a very beuatiful and fun, quick game. However, I have noticed one problem: the diffculty curve. As someone who rarely plays stragety games (My only one being Halo Wars), I am pretty bad at them. I find the first to planets to be pretty easy after a try or two, but the third planet ramps the diffculty up WAY to high. I am still stuck on it after a week because after i get my resource buildings up (One minute), the computer sends about 5+ attack buildings next to me. I have to frantcally build defense and attack buildings, while being destroyed in the first 3 minutes of a round. The game would be amazing if the diffculty curve is smoother.

V1.1 UPDATE:

Most of the problems described in my previous review have been solved or at least acknowledged for the next content update.

What has changed:

  • The interface is still beautiful, and now it's also way more convenient an comfortable.
The amount of clicks necessary have been substantially reduced with a back button and context sensitive placement of structures.
All relevant information is now shown on the improved right panel, and the different type of structures are now easier to differentiate.
  • The gameplay has been tinkered, and now feels more agile and fair. Objectives have been adjusted to solve some awkward situations that previously existed (like losing the game for destroying the enemy before mining enough materials), and I feel like repair drones are more effective.
The tutorial has been temporarily removed, but it will be improved to be included in the next update with a readjusted difficulty curve.

The game (being still in Early Access) is obviously not content-complete, but the developer is doing great as far as I'm concerned, and I'm excited for the next update!

(previous review:
This game has a great aesthetic sense and a somewhat interesting concept, but unfortunately for now (It is still Early Access) that's all it's got.

  • User Interface

    It's beautiful, but dreadful.
It takes ages, sweat and tears to navigate the menus. I've had to click up to 12 times to place 2 different structures, as I navigated from terrain type, to unit type, to unit strength, and then click back all those options again to return to the initial menu... not ideal for a quick response.

The structures are too similar for me, and the game provides very little feedback of what's going on (particularly on the side of the planet you can not see).

In short, the UI is often one of the game's greatest source of frustration. And speaking of frustration:
  • Difficulty

This game really needs balancing. The first two planets are almost boringly easy, and suddenly by the fourth one it's impossible to get a foothold, as you are quickly surrounded by an ever-growing mass of enemy structures and satellites.
  • [*]

    Game Mechanics

The game consist of placing structures for attacking, defending, and resource gathering. The structures can be placed on earth, air and water.
The placement of the structures is not context sensitive, and you'll have to manually specify the terrain type (meaning that you have to constantly deal with the click-fest described in the UI section).
    Defensive structures feel useless.
The game includes missiles and repair drones that can be sent at any time, but the interface is such a burden, the structures are destroyed so quickly, and the drones are so slow that they're essentially pointless, except for repairing the main base. Also there's not enough feedback to know when and where they're needed anyway.
)

The game is still in EA at the time of writing, so I'll update this review if anything changes in the future.

I have really enjoyed this game so far however i am just getting to know it. I was wondering if it would ever be possible to have online play enabled. I know that setting up a server would be difficult but if it was user run it still could work quite well. Is that in the works? Or does it depend on sales etc.?

Really fascinating game. Still obviously rough around the edges, especially as the difficulty ramps WAY up in the campaign very fast - I might say frustratingly fast. A bit more "Clicky" than I normally prefer but a very interesting alternative the the usual RTS fare and a lovely visual presentation. A lot of potential, assuming it keeps getting developed.

A few things I hope will play out as development goes along:

1) A gentler ramping up of difficulty. The first two planets are challenging for a newcomer, but easily beaten. The third one is suddenly far more difficult. I find this just a bit too punishing - a smoother curve is needed.
2) Something to automate repairs. Having to manually send out one drone at a time while you're being harried to death is a bit much in my opinion. Interesting idea but I'm not sure it scans, because there aren't really any "lulls" in combat to support a manual repair mechanic.
3) Menu transitions in the game are too long. Just getting out of the game when you're done takes thirty seconds or so, which doesn't seem like a lot until you wait through it.

And one suggestion:
Multiple star systems. This would make a very interesting basis for an extended, or even a procedural campaign mechanic, and would help keep the game fresh. And after all there are a lot of elements in the Periodic Table.

In spite of my quibbles it's a game that shows a great deal of interest and promise and I am looking forward to seeing it take shape. Definitely worth its buy-in cost, even taking all the above into account.
