This game was surprising in a good way, I love the art style and the story was really good with a twist I did not see coming. The puzzles had a variety of easy to difficult, some took me quite awhile to figure out but it wasn't frustrating although for some people it could be. The game was pretty big there are plenty of rooms to explore and the objects that you can click on are not obvious, but there is the plus side of pushing ctrl to show where everything is. Although saying that do not leave huge amounts of time between playing as you might forget where the items you can possess and move around (which is a good mechanic) or rooms are located *cough* I totally didn't do that a couple of times =-)
But this is a great game one that I'll be playing again for sure.
Beautifully haunting game, this is one that will stick with you long after you've finished it!
The visuals are stunning, it's very eerie and desolate, perfect haunted house vibes. I will say, a lot of the lore/writing is really hard to read as the devs made the papers ingame very faded and old looking and there is no "inspect" feature that makes them more legible. There is also a point in the story that imo was awful if you cannot read music notes.
Unique, enthralling, and dramatic. The Goetia is a breath of fresh air among computer games that follow the same formulas over and over again. Trapped by Malphus, a Goetia deamon, Abigail must figure out who she is and escape. The player takes her through the whole thrilling story as she uncovers the secrets of her family and Blackwood manor. A highly developed gothic horror story that fixates on every detail. The mystery cemented into this game will keep the player guessing until the end. Rated 9 out of 10.
It's definitely one of the trickier puzzle games I've played, but the satisfaction and story made it well worth it.
total trash
jossss
I LOVED this game! The art is stunning, the story was so intriguing, and the puzzles were a great variety of difficulty. I was so captivated by this game and taken surprise with that plot twist. I will definitely replay it sometime, and I hope the second game is just as fun!
Well, let's start with the good points. The graphics and atmosphere are fantastic. Everything looks stunning. This is easily the game's strongest point. The story is okay, although I was never able to get too into it. But this game ends up destroying itself with absolutely godawful design in various ways.
First, the story. Like I said, it's okay... I guess. Except that it throws a ton of names at you with no faces to associate them with, so for half the game I hardly had any idea who anyone was. It’s a lot harder to get immersed in the story when all I’m thinking is, “Who was that guy again?” I also found a lot of the notes rather difficult to read, with small and somewhat faded handwritten fonts, which did not help my immersion in the story.
Then there's the overall game design. Waaaay too many locations at once, which is even more overwhelming given that there's no quick-travel feature. Just the manor alone is huge and a massive pain to navigate, especially when you're possessing objects, because oh yeah, you don't have an inventory, you have to pick up the objects and take them to different locations. You, as a ghost, can travel through walls, but the objects can't, which makes it rather frustrating to carry them throughout the manor. The "possessing objects" idea is not bad and might have worked for a game that kept itself more contained, but with how expansive the game is, I really don't want to spend half an hour trying to find a room that I remember seeing an object in and then painstakingly transporting it to another room only for it to be the wrong solution. I also don't want to drop objects in random locations because then I'd never find them again when I inevitably have to look up a walkthrough for the game's impossible puzzles. So basically, I had little motivation to experiment much on my own.
And then there's the puzzles, some of the most ridiculously obtuse I've encountered. If you can beat this game without a walkthrough, I don't believe you. Also, you need to have a degree in music theory because the devs expect you to have a perfect ear for tones. Possibly the worst music puzzle I've ever seen, and I hate music puzzles in general.
What a shame, because the graphics are so stunning and the story had promise.
Excellent game! Really difficult puzzles and with an immersive story.
The only issue is that there are 3 puzzles, that assume the player knows basic music theory and are not tone deaf, so I had to use a walktrough for that part.
Other than that - I had a great time.
Great vibe! Great story. Very rich and interesting.
Encountered a game breaking bug after 8 hours. Very disappointing, I am not sure if I'm willing to start over, though i was enjoying the game. The thing is, i discovered afterwards in a guide posted on Steam, that this is a long known bug and I cannot fathom why it wasn't patched out. Seriously bummed right now.
interesting game and fun point&click riddles but malphas sprite is atrocious LOL. I hope the other demons will look better because I was laughing so hard at the cut out eagle head holy. Also got it on sale and I'm enjoying it
A really eerie atmospheric point and click puzzle game!
The highlights are definitely the visuals, the soundtrack, and the story, especially with how it gave story and lore in such a simple yet engaging way.
I will say however the difficulty of the puzzles is definitely a con. Some puzzles are very very simple and straightforward, but some have very obtuse solutions that were not telegraphed well. I'm not sure if it's a translation issue or not but I think if some of the puzzles were worded differently they would have felt more intuitive to solve. There are some really awesome puzzles in the game, and the fact that some puzzles even have multiple solutions is a great choice. I do think that some of the more obtuse puzzles could have also benefited with that mechanic as well, but that is just a stray nitpick. Overall I really did enjoy the game as a whole (it might've also helped that I didn't struggle in the music puzzles, though I can very much see how that would be extra difficult for others) but just know in advance going in that some puzzles are really obtuse and might hinder your fun if you don't find looking for hints and guides a fun experience.

This game was a lot of fun, it was quite difficult, but still fun. I would say to anyone on the fence about trying to play this game, give it a go. You won't be disappointed.
