I have a lot to say about this one.
I played the mobile version back in 2016 and I loved it but could never get myself to finish the game.
Now about this Steam version, unfortunately it has many problems...
The controls can really give you a hard time but it's something you can get used to.
BUGS were the main problem about this game, for example: I crafted "Portal D" but instead of it being in the bottom of the mine it spawned somewhere around 500 height.
I know I'm giving this a positive review simply because I'm biased, not because this game is perfect.
Aside from all the problems it has this game is very close to my heart.
It has great music, cool upgrades and a lot of jokes and references.
Bosses can be tough if you don't have the right equipment, but once you get it and figure out the bosses movement you get by them pretty fast.
So in conclusion, I won't advise you to buy this game UNLESS it's on sale!
But if you have the money and want to enjoy a short space mining game give it a shot :)
I tried really hard, I tried. I tried to get into this game and get far, because I had loved this game on android as a kid, and I wanted to experience the game again from Steam. The mobile original was already a bit janky in some ways, but this version is a lot more so, to the point that I can't really progress.
In some sense literally, since one of the ores I need, and still need quite a hefty amount of too, is not to be found anywhere despite how hard I look. I know where it's supposed to be, and I'm sure after all the scouring I've done it should have been enough to be able to find some if it were there; but alas, this has put something of a softlock on my playthrough. I needed to get an armour upgrade with that resource, and now I can't make it past the furthest depths due to a potent enemy type being too hazardous for me too dig there. My guess is that the enemies somehow dug away all of that ore which is why there's not enough left. The enemies can dig in this game, but they have some weird behaviours when you're not even remotely close to them, and so they seem to have caused more damage than feels intended. It's either that, or there literally did not generate enough of that ore. It's a big deal, I've played over 10 hours, and now I have to stop because this one part of the game isn't working.
Anyway, I guess that really is the major thing. There are also some small bugs that crop up pretty often, but they're not something I can't put up with. I really wish the ores would have been made more common. They are at the start, but then later it becomes a drag (not to mention becoming impossible!). Additionally, even with the scarcity, the bars you get from the ores you've mined are quite inefficiently inconsistent. It does not feel rewarding, to say the least.
The bosses are pretty easy when you know what you are doing (sort of), but also still a bit off.
I will say there is a lot that is really great to the game. The atmosphere is wonderful. The game loop is satisfying when it works. I'm not very good at describing what is good about things, but the game meant enough to me to want to play it again despite having already finished it on another device, that's got to say something I think. The game would benefit greatly from some updates, or even a remake perhaps. It has a lot of potential.
I have heard something about a sequel in the works (?), I would be very excited to play that, I hope the developer keeps working on it.
*edit: oh it seems the sequel will be made into an expansion. I assume it will come to mobile first (and I will definitely play it!) but I hope it will come to Steam eventually too. I hope with it they will do something to make the ore generation more reliable, or get to the bottom of whatever the issue was (I suspect something to do with monsters or some bug with how ores are smelted). Either way, I'm looking forward to it, and I'm sure it will be great!
Great little game. keeps you challenged for hours. reminds me of metroid.
I played this game on my phone almost 10 years ago and I liked it - But this is neither here nor there. This is my review for this game now, and the experience I had with it.
This game can be described by using only one word: - Incomplete.
1. There we're not enough resources to buy/lvl up everything.
2. Aiming is a nightmare.
3. Enemies and projectiles clip through walls.
I understand this is an old game - but at this point, in all honesty - there are similar but better games out there to spend your money on.
I have a thing for 2D digging/mining games, have played this on my old tablet and my phone, was delighted to see it on Steam. For the price, it's a decent dig/upgrade/dig more game. I haven't hit any issues besides accidentally shooting the helper robots (they get over it). I like it.
I know this game has its flaws, but for the incredible atmosphere and the nostalgia it give me it'll always hold a special place in my heart.
Love this game 100% it on mobile. Wish they would make the second one already.
Pickaxe deeper style of a game. Pros: decent graphics and music, funny dialogues, lots of upgrades and weapons, digging. Cons: wonky controls difficult to get used to at first (it gets better later tho), not much variety in terrain, ui is lacking a bit, and I did not manage to get "credits" ending, tho some kind of ending I did receive. All in all worth playing if you like some diggin action. ProTips - use mouse and keyboard; to shoot toggle shooting mode with right mouse button; to invert gravity with gravity enabled boots use arrow keys up/down on keyboard.
too small and they abandoned it.... is good if your only wanting a 10 hour game....
I played the game at least 2-3 years before this review, back when it was on Humble Bundles Mobile game bundle.
I played through and finished the game on my phones tiny screen, and this is an obvious port to PC, things like the improved vision from the helmet upgrade are useless and do literally nothing as your screen is already big/bright enough on PC, level 3 helmet and it still looks the exact same as the level 1.
Controls stick sometimes, other times they wont register for a second or two.
The game is really slow and its kind of a pain to walk all over the surface after each mining trip and 1/2 or more of your gameplay is going to/from places, walk 2 buildings from the teleport to unload your Gems from cargo, walk a building over, unload your metals from cargo, walk another 2 buildings over to craft if you need to, walk another 2 buildings over to heal and refuel (Which also takes forever while you sit there idle watching your health slowly fill back up) and then walk ANOTHER building over just to reload your ammo.
That's a visit to 5 fairly spread out buildings after every trip you make.
The story is... There, not good, but there, Motherload had better story to it...
Overall it is a fun game. I had fun, but as I said, its really slow and tedious, I found myself pulling out my phone to play games on that while I held down to finally find the ores I needed.
Dont be fooled by my 13 hours of playtime, I spent a total of 3-4 hours actually playing the game to finish 100%, I just have a habit of leaving a game open if Company comes over or I unexpectedly leave my PC.
Usually I write quite in-depth reviews but I haven't played this game enough to go in-depth.
I quit after 20 minutes. The controls are awful, the game fails at the start to give you a proper objective or reason behind doing anything, the different shops have terrible systems and you cannot even view the keybinds, let alone change them.
It feels unfinished, as if the developer just had enough with the game or lost interest in it when it was in Early Access and just decided to release it and be done with it.
If you haven't already played it I recommend Motherload a thousand times stronger than this.

i am incredibly frustrated with this game tbh like not to be a jerk but first off, controls are wonky. but like, that's whatever. that happens a lot, i get it, i can deal with that to an extent. the combat is just terrible. it's like... fidgety. it's all over the place and very rarely is it satisfying. your character is slow, it's purposely terribly lit for upgrades(so, y'know. if you have even the slightest bit of vision issues this is not for you, because why on EARTH would a game make itself accessible. gosh. what a concept. too crazy 4 me!) half the time if you save, it doesn't save. it freezes in the way you can't move, or exit, or save, or open any kind of menu very often, and you just have to close the game and hope the last time you saved registered because there's no autosave at all so you lose tons of progress real easily. manually saving takes a couple seconds and you need to do it constantly if you don't wanna constantly be set back. i tried real hard to give this thing a chance but, i don't know. maybe you'll have better luck. but that's been my experience.
Loved this game it is a bit short but so was its price hands down worth the few bucks one of the best games of the yr for me good humor and content ty for this gem
I like this type of mining games and this one has some original stuff to offer. Also a pleasant soundtrack.
Having played this on android for hours and hours, this release was a nobrainer for insta buy.
I've played alot of "digger games" but this is by far the best one.
(imho obviously, it's all in the eye of the beholder..but I'm right ;) )
I'm looking forward to playing this, tried just a bit to see what the controls were like, and it's awsome.
On the tablet some bossfights could be a bit frustrating due to the controls, but now we're on PC and it's payback time.
No more suicidal jumps into spikes or other nasties during boss fights ^^
If this version is remotly like the original on android/ios, 7€ is a steal,,,for you.
You'll get alot of game hours for 7€ and I replayed it twice on tablet,,good value.
Thx devs for this release :)
I hardly ever write negative reviews on games but when i do i feel they have some sort of issue that needs adressing that prevents enjoyment of the game. In this games case its a lack of content. Im not saying dont buy the game im just saying at this time i wouldnt recommend it. I wish they had a score system instead of a recommend or not recommend because the game is not bad at all, Its just that in most other 2d digging type games ive played theres more to discover. While this one has stuff it doesnt really feel like very much at all and youll spend most of your time just grinding and looking for materials to upgrade to the next pickaxe etc and beyond that theres not really much other than the occasional conversation between the miner and the other guy he works for. That should tell you how invested i became in the story because i dont even know the guys name lol. I just really feel there needs to be more of a sense of discovery and things to find and it would up the value of this game 10 fold. For me thats one of the enjoyable things about these kind of games the sense of exploration and discovery. I think what im touching on is the pacing of the game is too slow and needs to be upped some.
While this might be a good game for some im getting kind of bored of it already. So i cant in good conscience recommend it at this time.
I really enjoyed the iOS version of this game and was thrilled to see it released on PC. As one could assume, the handling of the miner on the PC as opposed to a mobile device yields a much more user-friendly, efficient method of gameplay.
- Great ambient music
- Beautifully rendered atmospheres
- Enjoyable gameplay
- Fun upgrades
This is a great game to either enjoy on the PC or the mobile device.
All I have to say is... its about time :) I played this through on android and loved it and asked ages ago about the PC version. I am happy to say it is faithful to the origional and is just as much fun to play. Thanks for following through on your promises guys!
instant purchase. like the other reviewers so far, I have played it on iOS. I played motherload back in the early 2000 and was hooked. 11/10 game on iOS. I certainly hope the Devs add more stuff like achievements.
As a side note for steam, I was extremely unpleased when I discovered I had to play the game first before I could write a review. Meh. Prevents spamming I guess.
I've played this game in the iOS for a long time now and all i find is awesomeness in this game... the exploration, mining, upgrading your gear, offering to the altar, fighting bosses and finding the secrets of the game is fun all this things tie up to us the player having a fun and exitment experience once you find something new. The game just came out for steam so theres a few bugs but the developer will take no time to fix themn, im sure of it. 10/10!!!!
