Classic old hidden object game. Nice way to spend an evening or two.
I love this Angel cry, because it has the mysteries and hidden object to mix with. It given me a hard time partly, but it is great game. I'm not giving up this great game. Thank you for this game. It's an awesome.
very well done art and voice acting.
Very different to the first game, but in a good way. This feels like a more traditional HOG.
Full disclosure: I got this for a deep discount on the winter sale for around eighty cents USD, so that no doubt had some influence on my review.
I'm not sure how much progress I've made, but I thought I'd write a quick review as there just don't seem to be that many here. First, the game is way better than the premise sounds. I don't mean that in a bad way, but it's closer to an action/adventure game than a standard HOG.
Speaking of which, if you want a lot of hidden object scenes, you may be disappointed. You will be crafting things and a lot of them. But what hidden object scenes there are have been richly detailed with a little bonus at the end of one more things to do.
The story is strong with this title, something I found to be a pleasant surprise. There are even collectible videos that explain the past and how our nemesis came to be. It even shows paganism in a kinder light than usual, though keep in mind the character you play is a priest during the Inquisition. He's going to act like it too, though he mostly seems sympathetic so far.
I liked that the combat techniques were easier to grasp on this one than some other titles, and I'm still not used to saying that in a HOG. The other characters do have some uncanny valley uh, charm to them, but most seem good-hearted and to be actual fleshed-out characters.
Also, any game with ravens and wolves in a positive light gets my vote.
Downsides? A few times objects have been hard to see, though if you play on novice you can use the hint button to take care of that. There is a fair bit of back and forthing, and crafting objects. So it's closer to an action/adventure FROG, just so you know. Also, sometimes I'd go to pick up an object and it would refuse to budge, but moved just fine after I used a hint. And the hidden object scenes can use outlines instead of item names. I'm personally not a fan of that.
Other than that, the controls can be a bit fiddly in game and using the fast travel map. Overall though, the game has great music and atmosphere. Just be prepared for a lot of side quests given to you by the NPCs. Also not used to saying that in a HOG either.
Playtime 3.5 hours for the main game.

Bonus Chapter
While I enjoyed getting to play the antagonist for once, did a different team make this chapter? The first thing I noticed was the tendency to pad out the chapter. Objects I needed and should have appeared the first time didn't appear until needed with no logical reason not to.
Also, I'm photosensitive, there was one area and hidden object area with flashing light. Yikes! Instant headache and I just kept swatting the hint button as each strobe blinded me. Seriously, there needs to be an option to turn that off.
It was OK, but I honestly lost any empathy for the main game's antagonist about half way through. He went from being someone you could feel empathy for to, I don't know, he was kind of phoning in his motivation for revenge. Considering what he looks like in the main game and various hints, I was expecting something more diabolic.
Also, there are no angels to be found in the game anywhere, fallen or otherwise. Kind of makes the title misleading.
Playtime 1.5 hours
I'm trying to play this game on a mac and I keep getting the scripting error. Steam wont help or refund ! If anyone knows anything to help me with this please write :/ .
The cardinal has a mission for you: stop the terror by the hand of an inquisitor in a remote village in Spain. Many innocents people died and it's time for you to understand why he's so interested in an old woman, Miguela. But nothing is easy in that cold town, where the sun never shows itself and where old feuds are strong in the heart of those who fell to hate.
If you played Where Angels Cry, you take back the role of the monk investigating his own brothers (well, in the church, not his own family) that seemed to have lost themselves to whatever vicious feeling they're currently having. However, now, the story is way more elaborated than the first game and is more polished. However, the ending isn't really satisfying. It cuts abruptly and you can only speculate. Even the bonus chapter isn't explaining it, it's more a prequel and an explanation of how the things came to be.
Now, the game is more oriented towards an hidden object setting, as you have scenes of them, that are easy and interesting. Even if Where Angels Cry is standard in this field (find items, use them and solve puzzles), it's more satisfying than in the previous game. Puzzles are easy and well explained. However, there is a major problem: you're often lost at what to do. Even in Casual, with the map showing the actions you need to do, you're asking yourself what you're missing. I got stuck in Ramon's house because the area that I needed wasn't clear. It's just a little disappointment given the great improvement of the game.
And the game improved also in terms of graphics: they're better: the characters seem more alive than in the first game, despite being in a winter decorum, the backgrounds are quite cheerful and colorful, in other words, it seems less outdated. The soundtrack also improved and was way more fitting into the story. However, better graphics don't mean that you can put everything in an hidden object game. I was under the impression sometimes that items were not medieval at all, despite the game being in the 13th century.
Where Angels Cry: Tears of the Fallen is a very good surprise, especially if you played the first game. Everything improved greatly, even if there are still some little problems. However, I've been more "active" in this opus than the first one. The price is perhaps a little high, even if it's a collector's edition, however, it's still a worthy purchase. If you played Where Angels Cry, I urge you to try Tears of the Fallen, so that you don't stay on your impression of the first game.
