Mytheon is an interesting multiplayer ORPG that has aspects of Diablo, Torchlight and other older action RPGs. It is marketed as an MMORPG yet there is literally no other players. I tied the week peak player count by myself merely by being the 1 player logged in.
There are some interesting mechanics here including the stones system. However, an MMORPG with a playercount averaging less than 1.0 concurrent players is hardly worth playing. It definitely isn't worth paying for.
Playing in 2023, server is working fine for me with no issues at all. As i saw many older reviews saying they had issues.
An older game that has some unique elements to it, played it trough with friends with various classes. so far its been a blast. Highly reccomend Warcaster for new players or solo players, as with enough dedication figuring out the best combos for your class. You can and will be able to complete the game solo. Enjoyed the lack of info on the game as much had to be figured out on your own. Good luck out there yall.

Great Game! Collect Stones and Armor and use them in the correct combination to conquer your enemies. A lot of bugs for sure. Some that make it almost unbearable Such as logging in. It will on average of five attempts to get your char to it's destination. First Log in fail, Server Fail, Char Fail, and Zone Fail twice. After that your are playing a online game solo. You might see a person but can't talk except through Mail system. There are other chat channels set up but they are broken over 90% of the time. Than if you do get to group it will take allot of failures getting to the same zone. Also since the communication is horrid you tend to solo anyway. Worth it? To most..... maybe not. To me YES! The frustration of trying to get to a boss, (That may or may not be glitched) and taking him/her down solo sometimes feels impossible. So when you finally do the feeling is so rewarding! Sometimes that has to be enough for you, because you're probably not going to get the loot you want. Also when you get it, you will already be able to take down the boss without it. Seriously though I do love the game. How can I love a game that seems so broken or perhaps is so broken? To be honest Mytheon has such a great concept I feel the developers were onto something fantastic with the logic of gameplay. The combination of stones, with armor, and class using the right tools for the job makes it so rewarding when you figure out the correct strategy for the boss/environment your are in. Yes there are broken stones you can use to kill almost every enemy but even then you have to still use the right timing and armor. Also obtaining the stones and armor is a feat in itself. You can challenge yourself or you can play with ease it's up to how you want to play. Mytheon truly is a enjoyable game once you get passed the glitches. I would love to see a remake or a new game with advancements of their concept. Until then, I have enjoyed Mytheon and will continue to as long as it is out.
when i was playing every time i had to enter a new region or location. My character didn't wanted to load so i was returned to character selection screen.
This is an interesting game. Seems to be a mix of a light MMO and an ARPG. So, somewhat like Titan Quest with MMO elements. Based on the date when it first came out, some dude in another game was already offing the Greek gods, but still...
Gameplay is amusing, the backgrounds beautiful, and the plot interesting.
Worth getting the bundle.
I'm not entirely sure what the Dev's were going for here, but I guess the best way to review this game is to say "I just didn't understand their direction."
Mytheon is an ARPG with Tactical Elements, that is an MMO (with no community whatsoever), that doesn't have much action, and has clunky controls. The graphics are SEVERELY dated, the controls are rigid and unfriendly, the combat is lack luster and boring, and the dialogue/story is generic and does nothing to draw you in.
I can't recommend this game, perhaps it's because I didn't understand the direction the devs were trying to go, but for now I'll just say this game doesn't deliver on ANY points.
After a confusing first few minutes, this turned into a surprisingly addictive and incredibly fun few weeks for a friend and me. I never would have thought that deck building and action RPG could work together so well.
Probably the biggest problem is that the major bosses seem to be balanced for a full group, and 1 or 2 players have almost no hope, at least not until their decks are rather polished.
But the positives far outweigh the negatives. I love that you can put an increasing number of cross-class cards into your deck as you progress. I also love the variety of cards, the atmosphere, and the combos.
Imbalanced Classes, no customization upon level up. Shallow loot system. Unfair Difficulty. Shoddy design. The one redeeming quality about this game is the novel "deck building" mechanic, which is neat. However, there needs to be much improvement in this to make this a game worth playing. 3/10 would be forced to be a summoner or die again.
So, I bought this game when it "re launched" last year. The game is not bad, but it isn't very good either. Like the RPG/turn based idea. It gets annoying when you don't get the stones/cards you need and you are e.g. lvl 12 and get killed by sth lvl 10. Also, the regeneration bonus is ridiculous. 4hp in 1500 hp (lvl 15) every few seconds? Start another game, go out , watch a movie or read a book while you heal, because if you go b to base, all the creatures respawn.
Apart from some serious lag issues, which got me killed several times, there are almost no people playing it. So how come you have an "online only" game with no people online? I already knew that few people were playing, but I never imagined such a little number. All the players of my lvl or of similar lvl I asked for a party declined it. Moreover, there are very few weapons and equipment available, not even one per lvl.
Apart from this, they elevated the price from 3.99 or 4.99 to 9.99, so that they could release some DLC at 4.99 ONE month later... I cannot support any company that does that kind of shady things. Besides, the basic game just gets you to lvl 30, while the DLC pushes it to 40, so you'll have to buy at least 5 more DLC packs. For me it's either launch the whole game or just don't... Selling content that could have been added when the game was launched is just wrong for me.
So, rounding up, I would only recomend this game if you buy it when it's on sale, and if you have some friends to play it with.
Hope I helped.
This is the only game I have asked for a refund on.
The game is more suited to single player as the server was dead when I played. Also its more of an on rails game than an mmo with freedom. There was lag during gameplay which I saw no reason for as no one else seemed to be online.
If the game took away the need for an internet connection and launched itself as a single player game then I would recommend it but as it is I can not. If the devs closed the server you would be left with a game you can not play. With the lack of players Im not sure how long the devs can continue to support this game.
Mytheon is a Hack and Slash MMO RPG with strategy elements set in ancient greece with evil gods and courageous heroes. You play one of these heroes and your goal is to defeat the gods.
TLDR:
- Gameplay may feel stiff/boring at first, but when playing a little longer with more challanging situations the strategy in the game comes out better. The stones collections, towers, companions and abilities certainly make a nice mix to play with. Shame there are few people though.
- graphics are okay though not impressive when global lightning is overwhelming. More moody areas look fairly nice.
- Music doesn't really draw my attention so far, but it's not bad.
= Though it's not a GREAT game it deserves more attention than that it has now. You may find this game shit and boring, but it can also be quite interesting, unique and fun to play.
There are 3 classes to choose from (I've only played the Elementalist, so I might be a little unclear about the other classes):
- Warcaster: heavy equipment, melee fighting
- Eidolon: between Warcaster and Elementalist
- Elemetalist: focuses on spells, towers and companions, quick mana regen
The basic gameplay is just to smash every monster you see and take all loot like in many other hack and slash rpg games. Leveling up simply increases your stats, nothing shiny there. What makes this game interesting (besides it's setting in greece if that interests you) is the stones you can collect. Sounds boring? Didn't catch me at first either :p. However there are stones you can collect and put in you "batte set". Your battle set is a set of stones you can use during battle. For it to be usable it has to contain between 15 and 40 stones. On the bottom of the screen 6 stones are displayed. These stones are randomly picked from your battle set. You can activate them (if you aren't in a safe area) by clicking them or by pressing there corresponding number 1-6.
There are basically 3 types of stones:
- Companion: summons a companion to fight beside you. By pressing F you select all companions and by clicking on anywhere else you deselect all companions and select yourself. You can move yourself and each of you companions seperately like you do with units in an RTS. Companions disappear after a certain time and have different HPs.
- Towers: towers are the same as companions except that they can't move and often do more damage and have higher HP.
- Abilities: abilities like in any other RPG game.
You start with a basic battle set of 15 stones and can find more in loot. You can also craft stones by using ingredients or by creating them out of 2 or more other stones.
Companions can be of 3 different types:
- attacker
- defender
- ranged
these types follow Rock Paper Scissor:
- attacker GOOD AGAINST ranged
- defender GOOD AGAINST attacker
- ranged GOOD AGAINST defender
I'm not yet shure about the damage types, but there are 6 listed of which 4 are elemental:
- melee
- ranged
- fire
- water
- air
- plant
water GOOD AGAINST fire
fire GOOD AGAINST air
air GOOD AGAINST plant
plant GOOD AGAINST water
All companions, spells tower, and weapons can do elemental damage (not necesarily) and all can have/boost resistances.
This makes it important to choose the righ way to attack, because (e.g.) fire against fire does very little damage.
You can trade with NPC's (in the hub) and put items on sale for other players (or buy their items) by paying a small fee. Beside the standard coop gameplay you can play pvp 1v1 or 2v2 in an arena. Haven't tried this yet because currently there are simply to few players. There is a tutorial, though it's all in text, so for the less patient (like me) it might be less fun to learn the basics. Certain tutorial text pops up when you visit certain areas. It's all explained pretty straight forward in few words, so it's not that bad. All tutorial text can be found in the journal at any time as well.
Though the music is made by Frank Klepacki it didn't really stick with me. It also seems that there are very few tracks, the music feels repetitive. It's not bad, but (so far) I didn't really draw my attention. Though it's a 2010 game the graphics didn't impress me at all at first. When you get a little further in the game and there are more lightning effects, it looks fairly nice though.
I played this game when first launched, loved it then. Was excited to see it again
graphics are good
game play is good
soloability is decent, final boss mobs are tough ussually need atleast a duo to kill, its much easier to lvl with a group anyway.
I read they have an expansion near done from previous, so my fingers are crossed there is more interest here on steam.
throw 5 dollars at it, u wont be disappointed.
A nice slow Titan Quest-like Hack and Slash. Big on Greek Mythology. Should run smoothly on most systems.
Powers are linked to stones you use to summon creatures and constructs that aid your avatar.
So there is a sort of deckbuilding edge when it comes to characterbuilding.
Given the lower price well worth picking up. It's solo-able with a bit of grinding and should shine in co-op.
Given the low price and the discounts on steam, no reason not to support the return of this little game.
Having played this years ago at the release, the biggest downfall for me was its payment style. It had a lot of cool features, as many have mentioned in the stones is like having a TCG wrapped up with Diablo. While combat gives you a rotate to work with, the game is quite fun and for the price can't be beat!
Take Titan's Quest, Torchlight, and M:TG and make it an MMO and you would have something very close to Mytheon. The combat system is like no other MMO however. Basically you collect stones (think of them as cards in a deck) and build your rotation with the stones you've collected. There are many possibilities and a good amount of random chance which keeps combat interesting. It's a nice change of pace to have to think on your toes in an MMO.
I played this in the beta days. I was sad to see it get decommissioned! When I saw it pop up on steam, I purchased right away. Good price, and the game is as fun as I remember. It also seems they will be adding more content! I just wish there was a way to play offline.
Played this game years ago. I'm so glad it's back! The textures are a bit dated but the gameplay is as fun as ever. The game plays like an instance-based MMO. You can party people and go in instances to fight enemies for gear and stones (ability cards). Your skills are all based on building decks of stones (abilities) that are continually regenerated at random while fighting in an instance. The random abilities keeps things interesting. There is only an online mode. You can solo if you'd like but playing with others is much more beneficial because you can stack AOE attacks.
Awesome to see Mytheon back alive :) !
Played the open beta got hooked, then it got taken down.
Anyway give this a go! After the first 2-3 levels I get the
the Diablo II loot hunting addiction.
The co-op part is good, after an instance (zone) is complete you can go to the hub where you can buy items, forge better stones and sell/buy stuff in a mini auction house. +1
I played this back in beta through its release, its great to see it released again. Its diablo'esq with a card deck system. Its an older game (2010) but its got some fun stuff to do and the cards offer some great customization. Its cheap fun and worth a play through. The pvp is actually really fun once you get a decent set of cards ("stones").
