Developed exclusively for virtual reality headsets, this is not a traditional PC game or sailing simulator. It is an immersive experience designed to delight your senses in life aboard an old sailing vessel, with several fun activities thrown-in for good measure. Due to heavy VR performance constraints, the ship does not currently sail, but rather floats in place at two different locales.

I like the experiences created in the early days of VR. I love that when they still look good and are perfectly playable.
no oculus quest controller support the game is unplayable
This VR experience looks very pretty. However, it suffers from poor optimization and polish. With an RTX 2080 and an i9 processor, I was getting terrible frame rate issues into the 40s. And there are no graphical settings at all that I could find with the Valve Index or the HTC Vive. You also have no hands, it just shows the controllers. And perhaps due to the frame rate or the rocking of the water, I experienced a great deal of nausea to the point where I had to stop. Overall, there is simply no reason at all to own this software. I would not recommend it.
While I would recommend this VR environmental experience, I have to say that the total lack of a tutorial is bothersome. It is not clear how to interact with the environment and therefore it can become boring quickly. As a little pirate cove, some characters to interact with would also be nice.
couldn't stand more than a minute in this stupidity
Be careful with this game, when I was trying it out, sinking the boat froze the engine, I liked the Idea for a while but the slow coding made a ton of issues on character death, i.e. If you play with the Mermaid and the Shark Eats you the game freezes.
Not a "Simulator" just one map and a ship you can run around in nothing else literally nothing else...
Great VR experience. I love all the details and surprises. I had to buy the bundle.
this game is the best vr experience of Pirate we could hope the boat is incredible the interaction are great great graphism , great vr , great animations , i love the differents events and possibilities
the only thing a little disapointed is the sword can cut only one time one item of the monkey mini game it would be fun to can choose between the guns and the sword
and the second thing is the bird fly is great but to see the bird under us with few pixels is a little more difficult and give more the motion sickness , maybe if we could have the choice to be on the bird or to be in the first person too pushing on a button to change a second time of view would help
but if not this game is a wonder on the pirate universe
the only thing i could dream to see would an event where womans pirates and men pirate could be in the sleep cabin and sing yoho yoho the pirate song from disney , even if it should stay surely a dream since the rights on the song are maybe hard to have
but anyway i can only recommend this incredible and wonderfull experience on the theme of pirate it is the best and a real wonder
I found this a really great experience in VR. The ship is beautifully modelled and the overall level of graphics impressive, but above all the sense of scale is amazing. Climbing the rigging to reach the top of the masts as the ship glides through the ocean waves is an awesome experience, with the sound of the sails flapping in the wind and the dizzying views down to the wooden decks below. That alone was worth the purchase price!
Add to this plenty of interaction and fun elements to experience on the ship, a tropical island to find and explore and the opportunity to view this all from a bird's eye point of view as you become a seagull with free flight. What's not to like, thoroughly recommended!
Yarr! Here be a nicely recreated pirate ship, ripe for exploring in VR. As other reviewers have mentioned, it’s not really a game, but rather an environment that you walk around, and various items to interact with. It has all the pirate things you would expect: Treasure, cannons, rum, mermaids, sharks, even a shooting gallery with some monkeys. Be sure to search all around – I played for half an hour and can tell by watching the trailer video that I missed some stuff! The ship itself is very cool, the island is bright and rich, and some of the objects are fun to mess with. Not tons of content here, but at its price, I say it’s a good title for any pirate fans out there. Thumbs: Up!
Who does not want to be a pirate?
pro - ship gently bobs in the water and it quite realistic.
- there is enough interaction on the ship to amuse. especially in the cabins and hull
- getting eaten by a shark gets you an achievement
- the island is quite large and well done, with two old settlements
- if the select the seagull, you become the sea gull and can fly. awesome but got a bit of travel sickness during flight.
con - the teleport is a pain in the arse. for each hop you need to wait about 9 seconds before you can hop again. so often if you are impatient when the green circle comes up again you seem to skip two ahead.
- ALSO when you teleport you never landforward. You can of course turn around but it is a pain.
- island there is not much to do. fight monkeys....though there is a treasure map which is need to go back and try, which might be fun
UPDATE
Still having issues finding the treasure but have fought the kraken, played the music instrument on the bow, spotted the mermaid and played again with the jewels. the jewels are amazing and sparkley.
First let’s get past the main issue some people have with VROOM: Galleon, it’s not a game it’s a VR experience instead, and in my option a rather good one at that.
It has plenty to explore and interact with and the touch controls work well with this experience and I like the fact that you get both a ship with items to examine and an Island to explore.
On the ship you need to explore and interact with everything to get to the island, and climbing the rigging gives a very real feeling of height, just don’t try and grab on to the mast to support yourself like I did as it’s not really there.
Then you need to get the ship to move you to the island so you can explorer it as well.
Hint if you are having trouble getting to the island think about how you would control a real ship of this size and type.
So in summary, if like me, you like exploring new thinks in VR that are hard to do in real life, then you will probably enjoy this VR experience. On the other hand if you are looking for yet another fast action wave shooting, go play something else this is probably not for you :-)
I love pirates! This is the best looking ship I've seen yet, and it's in VR. Very fun experience. Lots of good humor and happiness. It took me a while to find the island. (You use the pole thingy.) I hate those damn monkeys!
I really enjoy Aerie and how it has improved over the past few months, so I figured I'd pick this up as well. I was nervous about getting seasick, but fortunately that never became a problem.
The graphics are some of the best I've seen in VR. Hopefully the devs will add more content as they did to Aerie, because I'd like to spend more time here. It's well worth the price if you love pirate ships.
Amazing graphics for current VR hardware. Enjoyed the slow pace; just watching the ship rock and waves roll by. Can't wait for Vive support!
Just tried this on CV1. It's not a game as such, but as an exploration/sitting around admiring the view experience, it's fantastic. The visuals look great and the minigames are entertaining (particularly flying as the bird). If you're looking for somewhere to just hang out in VR, this is perfect.
Excellent graphics and ship movement. Need to be able so set the sails and simulate going somewhere.
Controls are fiddly, using sort-of Tank controls that don't really make sense in VR. I only played very briefly and felt motion-sick (I work with VR headsets every day, it takes a lot to make me feel queezy in VR). Some interactive objects also unexpectedly moved the camera, causing sudden disconnect that added to my nausea.
Collision is a little all over the place, can often just walk through stuff.
General framework/layout and experience is missing, no menus or any sort of introduction into what's going on.
Graphics are lovely however, but they don't make up for the lack of content. With the above fixed, I still can't see this for more than £1.99 on Steam.
What a waste of money. It's not a game. Developer is talking about it being a VR game. Why they display it in simulator, I don't know. It's not doing anything and the ship doesn't even sail.
