A cute, brief game which feels like a mix of "King's Quest" and "Willy Beamish." Old school vibes aplenty, worth every cent I paid.
Just okay. Super short.
A fun pixel graphic point & click game about an aspiring knight. The story is well told, filled with humor and lots of modern cultural references.
I definitely recommend if you like this genre.
Great little game. Not all the puzzles are logical, but they're surely enjoyable. Really loved the characters and the dialogues. The addition of voice acting would be great, but it doesn't really matter, since the game is great and quite cheap. Great job! Till next time, don't forget to point & click!
Tick's Tales is a retro style, pixel graphic, point & click adventure game. You play as tick a young boy with a crush whom he wishes to impress. In order to do that he's got to become a knight.
The game tries to be funny but usually comes of as more cheesy but it plays off that and seems to be purposely cheesy... like naming the romantic interest "Georgia McGorgeous." It also breaks the fourth wall, acknowledging itself as a game in several places. It makes references to various games and movies/books/characters for example, naming the wizard Gandarf (likely in reference to Gandalf from 'The Lord of the Rings'). The humor is okay but nothing really funny or memorable just more cutesy.
The visuals are fine considering it's specifically trying to be a retro-style pixel graphic game. If you are looking for the latest graphics this will definitely disappoint you but as long as you are expecting pixel graphics you won't. Some of the scenes are better drawn than others. Most items you need to interact with are easily noticeable but some of them require some pixel hunting. There is no hotspot display that shows a word or highlights an item that can be interacted with. It's not bad as it's a pretty small world but a couple things are frustrating to figure out/find (I'm thinking of you "protein grass"). There's only a few screens (I think 10 total) and not all of them are available at the same time so it's not a lot of places to have to search and click through.
The interface is extremely simplistic. Everything is right on the screen, there's no menus to open except your backpack. You only have a pointer that lets you interact with your environment. You can't switch between look, walk, talk, etc... it will only react to hotspots in whatever predefined way that spot acts when clicked. There are no click through abilities so when the animations or dialogues are going you must wait till they finish. This can feel especially irritating when for example you enter the wizards shop and have to wait for him to finish his chemistry experiment each time or when you are done reading but the text is still there on the screen.
The game takes about 3 hours to play through at $8, that's about $2.67/hour of gameplay. That's a little high for my taste but if you can get the game on sale it would make it a better rate. Overall, it was a reasonably fun play but nothing very memorable with mediocre storytelling and characters. If you have 3 hours to kill, this is probably a good option assuming you like this type of game.
I paid $2 for this game and that's about all it's worth. The pixel animation is fairly good and can be entertaining, but the close-ups of characters are straight up MSPaint and there's maybe an hour and a half of content.
Short but amusing and entertaining. Worth a few bucks!
10/10 I am honestly in love with this game. It's so fun and perfectly reminiscient of the older pixel graphic games, yet updated in ways such as humor and navigation. All of the little puzzles were extremely easy. It was more like a little adventure or quest game with some puzzle aspects. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for some fun and a little nostalgia. It's not a long game, but it's definitely a game you should play and it's worth the price.
Because it doesn't have a rating, I usually do my own, and try my best to stick to the ESRB content ratings.
TEEN: Some Blood and Violence
(I feel that I need to say that besides the end, I would have rated it E10 for Mild Suggestive Themes. There's just some blood and violence at the very end that would potentially put it in the TEEN category).
Short but punny. Worth checking out!
I enjoyed this game. I loved the graphics and feel of the game took me back to the classic era of Adventure games. The puzzles were not that hard nor too easy. I recommend this game to anyone who wants to go back to that classic era.
I hope more games are made and maybe longer play.
Tick's Tales is a quirky point and click adventure game. Tone and humor is similar to Adventure Time, as you wander through the world encountering wacky characters and solving bizarre puzzles. The developer is clearly a fan of snarky references, bad puns, and dad jokes. Fairly priced, hilariously written, and well worth your time.
A great little game, fairly priced.
The backgrounds, character sprites and animations are all wonderful, although a couple of the animations are a little overused.
There's no voice acting (except for the odd exhalation or vomiting sound), but the dialog is funny and concise. The music all fits nicely, too.
The game feels like it's going to end really early, but actually it doesn't. I wasn't timing how long it took me to complete, but for the price it was a decent length.
The puzzles are solid. They're all fair, but also imaginative, not just of the 'use key on lock' variety (well, except for one, which the game itself makes fun of). I got stuck for quite a while on a couple, but only once needed a hint (and, in hindsight, even that puzzle was one I should have figured out on my own).
One really nice feature is the moving camera, which follows the player character around smoothly and zooms in and out at times. By default it also wobbles around even when you're standing still, which made me queasy, but you can turn this off in the settings.
I completed the game with one of the inventory items still left unused, which could mean there are multiple solutions to some puzzles, although I haven't tested this.
Lastly, whenever I read reviews of adventure games, I wish I knew what kind of games the reviewer liked, so that I could decide whether or not to trust his or her judgement. I have always loved the classic LucasArts adventures like Day of the Tentacle, Monkey Island and Sam & Max: Hit The Road. Make of that what you will.
All in all, this game is well worth your time and money. A big 'well done' to the creator. I hope to see more from him.
A fun game if you like traditional point-n-click adventures. Haven't finished the game myself yet, but I will say it's well worth the small price it has. I haven't run into any ridiculously difficult puzzles yet, and I'm quite enjoying the humour in the game.
Monkey Island humor meets King's Quest asthetics. All while boasting a modern interface found in today's adventure games. A really fun game by a new developer. Length and price are well matched.
