gud gam
Fun casual game, a bit older graphics but it's cohesive and the gameplay is great. Wish the developer would go back to these early games and make more like them.
This game freezes up all the time & has to be closed and restarted. Very annoying.
Fun little game
Loved this game as a kid, my brother and I used to play it together. Sadly, with Adobe flash player getting taken offline, the online game became unplayable. Don't regret getting this version at all, though! It's so fun to play it again, and I've been grinding for a perfect score at every level :) Really recommend if you want a calm but focus ish game !
While I don't know that this deserves it's high user score, this game doesn't have much in the way of flaws.
The difficulty setting is a bit high. Your micro better be on point in order for you to have any hope of getting the "expert" time on most, let alone all, of the levels.
Also, there's no achievements. There's sort of in-game achievements. Sort of. There's a camp where, as you encounter new buildings in levels, they get added to the camp, to give you a feeling of progress. And, every expert time you get adds progress to the carving of an idol.
the greatest game of all time
an expansion on the first one, not many new mechanics but it really doesn't need them
Improvement over Roads of Rome 1 - includes using the storehouse as a second camp and doesn't have the annoying mini games. Introduces "wild animals" that scare off the workers. Some repeat maps from RoR1 but with different obstacles and game play. Fun time management/strategy.
A wonderful successor to the first game! You play as the same Roman general as the first Roads of Rome. After finding out that your new father-in-law (Caesar) gets poisoned, you go on a quest to build roads to the Gods and get their blessing for a cure. You must collect food, wood, stone, and gold to build the "Roads of Rome" Each level is unique with different objectives and gets more challenging as you progress through the game. Some chapters have seasonal changes which effect gameplay and I noticed on certain levels you can get "locked out" by not managing the resources right and having to restart the level. As you progress you'll unlock new buildings, upgrades, power ups, and more workers to help you complete the missions within the time limits. Roads of Rome 2 adds new mechanics like the "submarine" as well as a few new buildings.
Most of the levels were pretty simple however once you learn the basics, it's quite possible to achieve "Expert" rating on all 40 levels. A wonderful addition is the new Bonus level, which is only unlock-able if you complete "Expert" on every level. This game is perfect for any Casual gamer, or just someone who can't spend long periods of time to play. The story is a basic, however, a cute story. You'll be reminded with story panels every ten levels. The sounds are great, and the graphics are decent.
There isn't a lot of replay ability once you beat it on Expert rating however, and I was able to complete it all on Expert in about six hours, including the new bonus level. Each level only takes about 10-15 minutes or so to finish and I'm sure it can be done a lot faster since I was playing it only casually.
All in all, a solid game for a solid price! You can't go wrong with this title. A must play if you enjoyed the first!
I challenge myself to get a expert rating on each level and that is very enjoyable.
it was fun and challenging
Short version: 63%
Roads of Rome 2 has average mechanics for a time/resource manager, but the level design is enjoyable, and it has no real disadvantages beyond not having any strengths. It is a harmlessly recommendable title for genre fans.
Long version:
Time manager sequels often fall into a “nothing more than a level expansion pack” category, and Roads of Rome 2 will hardly defy this statement. If you played the first one, then you already know the gameplay: you get 1-4 workers to gather four resource types from their production buildings, and you need to pave a long road on each level as one of the required goals.
There is only one notable change in the mechanics: almost all stages feature a task that requires a sizeable amount of something, ensuring that we must gather all resource types continuously. (So, no more massive stockpiles of wood while we are waiting for the quarry to finish, like in the first game.) When we combine this choice with the pleasantly above-average layouts, we get a fun time manager—in its own, charming, cheapish way.
The story, in stark contrast to the previous game's semi-realistic approach, features gods and monsters at its core. However, the plot is still marginal and serves only as a simple reason to change the aesthetics every ten stages.
More Rome-y road-building goodness. Mostly more-of-the-same, but without the silly match-3 mini-games. Does add a few new buildings. Works great on both multiple monitors and Steamplay.
Quite a fun casual game. Took me 10 hours to complete on expert. It can be a bit frustrating, but it's the fun kind of frustrating.
Having playing this online. I thought I would buy the full version and its a simple game to play. You have to build a roman path within a time limite to open up the next level. But also you have to do tasks such as feed your workers, gather wood to build the path and bridges as well as fulfil side tasks to fulfil the requirements of the level. The game is easy at first that is intentional to get you settled into playing the game. Then it becomes more challenging as you unlock harder levels in the game. Worth a try if you like those kind of games.
The game offers some nice additions compared to the previous instalment in the series. I suppose you are reading this review after playing Roads of Rome 1. If not, you can start by the first game, as every one of them has completely different sets of levels.
Level Design
Stairs and ropes are used to better exploit the relief of the map. Just look at the screenshots to get an idea: levels generally gives the feel that they are more complex, with far away areas harder to reach (so more rewarding in a sense).
Graphics
Some animations have been improved. By example, the roads are now built in several steps, so it's nicer to watch.
Yes, in terms of assets, the game is very close to the first one, but the efforts put in the level design (especially the will to put more relief) show that the devs work on the game to make it look better.
Resources consumption
The first game was asking you to put a ton of resources in rocks on the road. On the contrary, this game asks you to sink your resources into a single "obstacle", one (or several) barbarians standing somewhere on the map.
It helps to lighten the obstacles use, by using them only when necessary. Besides, the barbarian requirements vary a lot and are designed to fit each level, so resources needed per level are better controlled.
TL;DR
This second game is close to the first one, with welcomed improvements.
If you liked Roads of Rome 1, you should definitively buy Roads of Rome 2.
This might look kinda cheap, but this game is surprisingly fun and introduces you to the mechanics very well. It's similar to Farm Frenzy in a few ways, and the sound reminds me a bit of Populous 3. Overall cute, relaxing, satisfying, and worth the few quid I spent on it. If there is a downside it's mainly the aspect ratio, and I don't think the maps get any bigger as you go along. 3.5/5
