Charm Games brings you FORM, a surreal adventure that unfolds within the confines of the human mind.Dr. Devin Eli is a brilliant physicist at the global technology mega-conglomerate Mindful Laboratories. Working in seclusion at an atmospheric research facility in the Alaskan wilderness, Dr. Eli is on the brink of uncovering the meaning behind a mysterious signal coming from a secret artifact - The Obelisk.
Playing as the gifted Dr. Eli, you have superhuman powers of geometric visualization - the unintended consequence of a childhood trauma. Use your powers to follow the signal through The Obelisk and explore dream-like memories to unlock puzzles in your own mind. all though good, felt more like a tech demo and concept,
not a full game.
I'm aware this is a VR game from 2017 and in 2017 I probably would have rated it as good ... but, let's face it, once the initial fascination has worn off, you start looking at how much game there actually is. And in case of Form there's little beyond what you give toddlers or really young kids to play with. Fit a shape into the right hole, remember a sequence of four ... it's so low level and trivial that it takes more time to figure out what the game needs you to do than to actually do it. Yes, the visuals, music and sounds are nice, but it doesn't amount to anything beyond just that. it's very much like The Room games, just a lot less complex, but with the same bloated, non-sensical self-importance. So, an okay 80 minutes demo of VR with rather poor controls and a tiny bit of story tacked on that amounts to nothing. 3/10.
Form is the perfect game to introduce players to VR. The puzzles are all relatively simple to solve and don't require much, if any, coordination, so they give players time to get acquainted with the controls. The surreal environments are a fantastic and highlight the benefits of stereoscopic 3D. The movement is entirely teleportation based, so new players are less likely to get sick from movement as they adjust to other aspects of interacting in VR. The story is the main point that I found quite lacking. Overall, if you're a seasoned VR user, this game may not seem super relevant to you, but it is worth an hour of your time if you get it on sale or in a Humble Bundle. If you're new to VR or if you want to introduce a friend, this is a great puzzle game to get started with.

Nice VR experience, simple puzzles.
The game only lasts about an hour.
Story-wise it's more like a short prologue,
opening to bigger story, but sadly it ends.
Only recommend buying it 'bundle' with heavy sale.
For a buck or two, it's worth it.

This is what I expect from VR games, I finished this game and said to myself this is why I got into VR.
The game is very well put together you feel like you are there, they use all of the VR mechanics to their fullest extent.
I would recommend the game purely for the experience and is well worth the price, the only gripes that I have is there is very little of a story going, it is a bit short and the puzzles are a bit on the easy side. But if you want to experience what VR is supposed to be like then you should get this game.
Although a little short, the mechanics are well implemented and overall its a unique experience, problem solving 3D puzzles in virtual reality is quite immersive. Others I have shared my VR setup with have also enjoyed it.

I personally believe that VR (at least as it is today) is not very well suited for hard-core gaming.
But is amazing for having VR experiences.
Be it watching movies on huge virtual screens, visiting amazing worlds location, or playing with things with your hands.
I wouldn't play Civilization or Cyberpunk in VR, but would definitely play some laser tag or ping pong.
(it reminds me of the Wii console in that sense)
And this game hits the formula perfectly!
The game is very well made - you're not told what to do, but you intuitively understand within a minute what you're supposed to do.
The soundtrack is excellent.
The graphics and atmosphere are amazing.
Really a perfect way to experience VR.
I will acknowledge that the game is indeed on the short side.
Looking at people's reviews - looks like everyone finished it in slightly over an hour.
Now I'm not sure if it's worth the full $15 price.
On the one hand compared to other Steam games, it seems a bit high. On the other hand, compared to VR games (that usually cost $20-$30) it's not that high.
But we have the advantage of Steam.
How much would I say the game is worth?
So I was able to buy it for %70 off, and I think it was totally worth the money.
I definitely do not expect it to be free - by the level of content and polish you're getting.
But anything below $10 I think is a fair price.
I cant really do the surreal VR sci-fi puzzle game FORM any real justice with a simple review but i can say one thing though and that is that i loved every single minute that i played it and simply cant recommend it enough. The only possible downside i really can think of is that maybe more seasoned players might find the puzzles a bit too easy but regardless of that the game was a pretty mindblowing experience and well worth a buy in my opinion. It's a bit short though and i 100% it in 1.9 hours so maybe better wait for a sale but the game is great and really shouldnt be missed out on if you own a VR headset.
First off, don't pay full price, get it for 5 bucks or less. $9.99 would be a better listing price.
The game is quite beautiful, but I was stoned while solving the puzzles and still managed to finish it in under an hour, with a like 5 minutes wasted trying to find my soda. Its upsettingly noticably short. A ton of fun for a VR puzzle game, but its so short it might as well be summed up as a demonstration of the capability of the developer. If I paid full price, and not less than 5 bucks, I would return it. I got it on sale and had top return to the store page to check the listing price to write this review. I do not believe its worth full price, but it is quite the enjoyable experience.
I would compare this to the free to play VR game Flush. The differences being puzzles, instead of skills. And a notch better graphics. BTW the main graphics element of this game is absolutely the lighting system, that's the focus.

I don't think I understood the story really.
People said they liked the visuals, maybe that was before newer VR games. They don't really hold up in 2020 compared to say, idk, Half Life: Alyx?
Puzzles were ok, definitely feels like a 2017 VR timeframe game.
$4 still feels acceptable.
Would probably have been better for a first-timer VR than someone who has played a lot of VR, more of an experience.
It's not bad thought, so I'll give it a very tentative thumbs up.
The game was extremely immersive and a fun, dark puzzle, but I wish there was more content. I found myself saying "Wait... It's over? That was the end?" when the final cutscene played out after nearly an hour had passed. For the cost, I was really hoping to at least get 3 - 5 hours out of the game.
Regardless, if you can catch it on sale, I'd say go for it.
It's ok. The visuals are this game's main selling point. There are some cool puzzles but nothing super challenging and the whole game can be finished in one hour with absolutely no replayability, so if I wanted, I could just easily refund it, but I got it for 4€, so that would be a scumbag move. Let's support these small VR developers, maybe their next game is going to be a massive hit.

PROS:
- Good visuals and audio
- Keeps a solid mystery going
- Nice use of "instruments" to reveal parts of the puzzle or give clues
CONS:
- Only 45 minutes of gameplay
- In some puzzles it may be overly easy to hit the wrong button and have to restart the puzzle
- A player probably needs to be at least 10-12 years old based on average height to be able to play (see/manipulate the puzzle parts)
- Some of the end puzzles (while I thought would get harder or at least more interesting) turned out to be essentially a game of Simon
- Achievements popup at times that might catch your attention to the point where you miss something interesting in game
- The shape puzzle with keylike pieces has issues matching/inserting after solving the main puzzle

Overall, I'd say if you're not a "puzzle buff" (expecting puzzles you have to really think about) or don't normally play puzzlers, this is a solid 3.6 out of 5. It you're a standard puzzle game player, you probably want to pass on this elementary/intro level puzzler.
FORM was a blast.
Although it's really short, the atmosphere is extremely well done and extremely immersive. If the game had been 2 or 3 hours longer, it would have been worthy of holding a place in top 10 vr games of all time. but, sadly, it ends before it can show its full potential in immersion and storytelling.
Don't get me wrong though, the devs did a really really good job. Graphics, sound, puzzles, all well done.
The puzzles were quite creative, but not brain-destroying. Every puzzle sequence could be solved quite quickly.
As a proof of concept, this game is overkill. As a full game, the game needs juuuust a little more content.
About one hour of pretty good content. The most puzzling thing about this game is why it didn't take everything a bit further. Each room mechanic, and the plot, end right as they start to show their potential. It seems like this game had more planned, but that development just stopped. It's a shame, because clearly a lot of talent and effort went into building a solid foundation.
This game was really amazing!
Great graphics, great atmosphere, great soundtract, amazing gameplay. I enjoyed this game from start to the end and did not even realized how time passed while I was playing it.

Seeing as its currently 40% off, I figured now is a good a time to put up a review of this thing.
Altho puzzley games arent usually my thing, I hadnt bought a VR game in a while (when this launched), so I took a chance with FORM. I found I was pleasantly surprised, what I remember to be most striking was how much care and effort went in to have this game so well polished.
The puzzle side of things were a bit easy, but that is a tricky thing to get right (and right for who?). I would rather slightly too easy than the opposite IMO, no frustration! The length (common VR theme!) is short. Without rushing or being a genius, I finished this in an hour or so, incl the credits. Other than the length, the game did cheap out a bit in the middle during a story clip, it was told to a static backdrop. But considering the time and effort to do things well in VR, I think it was the right decision, rather than make the game shorter (assuming it was a budget call).
If you havent played Simon, or done a jigsaw puzzle in years - like a normal person - then maybe its retro enough for you to enjoy it again, briefly.
FORM is a beautifully and lovingly crafted puzzle game. While short (about 1hr), at a discount is a worthwhile purchase.
Wow. After I'd finished the game, I sat on my floor watching the credits, thinking: "These kind of experiences are why I got into VR." The game is highly polished and a great benchmark of what a puzzle game should be like in VR.
Every vr enthusiast get this game.
Such a masterpiece, seriously get this game, don't watch any trailers or walkthrough so you get the full experience without any spoilers !

I got this in sale @£11.24 and the game lasted just over an hour for me (stopped to sip my beer a few times). I can’t even drink £11.24 worth of beer in an hour, so certainly not value for money even though…..
The graphics are truly wonderful
The sound and music fits well
There is a story, but no history or lore, so you wonder what its all about
The puzzles are interesting, with very clever mechanics, graphics and with motion controller input, but the puzzles are not very challenging
It’s standing only (no room movement required) as described (just though I would repeat this)
You probably won’t play this again, although it’s worth showing off to your friends.
If you have the cash, take the splash, if not, best let it rot
Works perfectly on the Oculus Rift.
Finished in 1.2 hours and that was me trying to be slow including watching the end credits. Add to that there's no replayability. The asking price of 19,99€ is relly really steep, but I have to say the experience was really great. If you have a lot of money then I say go for it otherwise wait for a sale.
The puzzles were very easy but satisfying. This may be a puzzle game, but that's not what you pay for. It's all about the experience of being in a surrealistic mind dimension. The atmosphere is nothing short of amazing.
It's the perfect game to introduce people to VR.

Yes, it is short. Took me just under an hour, but I am also an obsessive puzzle game fanatic. Others may take a little longer, but I can't imagine it would take more than 1.5 to 2 hrs.
Having said that: WOW!!!!
It just kept stunning me with twisted lanscapes and machinery, like the sacred geometry of an alien mind. Puzzles felt mysteriously intuitive, despite having to do some really weird stuff to solve some of them. There was only really one puzzle that I didn't care for, but it wasn't awful or anything, just not as outlandish and creative as the others.
Sound design and score is powerful, chilling stuff, really selling the whole sacred alien revelation thing. It really felt like the trippiest moments of Contact or Close Encounters.
Lastly, great use of VR! Lots of intuitive grabbing, pullling, switching, aiming, peeking... none of this would have worked in a traditional game. It avoids locomotion problems by having puzzles evolve around you, keeping everything in roomscale reach. Some scripted teleportation occurs, but it all makes sense within the narrative.
I think this might be my favourite VR title so far this year. Honestly, my only regret is that there isn't more of it. I actually wish it ended on a cliffhanger, promising more chapters coming soon! I would buy them in a heartbeat. For now, I will be playing this through again just for the WOW factor, and will definitely be demoing to friends and family.

Very much a 'VR "The Room" Lite'. If you enjoy Manipulating levers and other objects to solve spatial puzzles, you'll likely enjoy FORM.
Interesting concept. Well designed (audio, visuals, and game progression).
Some of the puzzles were a bit low for me (6'2") and a literal pain in the neck to look at too long, but no there was no VR-related discomfort.
I recommend the game, though the price is steep for the length. Bought at 16.49CDN. 50 minutes to complete including the credits.
FORM feels a lot like The Room by Fireproof Games, blown up into VR.
I finished the whole game in about 70 minutes. The puzzles are not hard, but simply the act of solving them in VR was a fun and memorable experience. The environments that surround you (along with the interactions), are mind blowing.
I look forward to what Charm Games comes out with in the future!
