Blind is a narrative-driven psychological thriller for virtual reality where the player is blind and must explore their surroundings using echolocation.
Waking up in a strange room with little memory of how she came to be there, a young woman makes the shocking discovery she has lost her sense of sight. Goaded by the sinister and twisted Warden, she must explore a perverse and frightening mansion using sound alone. By sending out soundwaves with a cane, the outlines of objects are briefly revealed, enabling the player to navigate the mansion, solve puzzles and uncover the mystery of what is happening to her.
As she gets closer and closer to the truth, however, she will be forced to confront her worst enemy--that which she does not, or will not see.
Born out of the Global Game Jam in 2014, which had the theme of “We don’t see things as they are, we see them as we are”, the Blind team won the Best Game award at the Turin (Italy) jam site with their entry Come to See My House. The team then began work on a full game based on this initial concept.
Built from the ground up for virtual reality, Blind will be launching September 18, 2018.
Learn to navigate carefully and cautiously using your cane. Send out soundwaves to reveal your surroundings briefly before they fade into darkness. Gramophones and other objects that make sound become lighthouses in the all-encompassing blackness.
Built from the ground up for virtual reality and supporting binaural audio and motion control, Blind is a fully immersive and unique experience that removes you from the world you are used to, and asks you to see things differently.
Where are you? Who is the Warden? Why has he kidnapped you and why does he want you to solve the puzzles in this strange and yet somehow eerily familiar place? Experience a constant sense of foreboding and emotional tension as you travel deeper into a mansion riddled with puzzles and dangers. As you search for answers, will you find things you’d rather not see?

I liked it. Some beautiful set pieces and a unique game mechanic, with a story that I quite enjoyed.
Parts of it seemed a little sparse (just walking around aimlessly figuring out which doors are open), and sometimes the blindness mechanic made puzzles feel tedious.
Play this when you want something brief, weird, and sad.
This is a great little VR puzzle game with an interesting gimmick.
The atmosphere is eerie ,thanks to the music and ambient sounds, but not too scary.
The story is good ,and the voice acting is well done.
Sound effects and music are excellent.
I played this on the index without any issues.
Blind VR Accessibility Overview Jan. 3rd 2024
Overview:
I want to start this one by saying that this is a unique experience in the form of a puzzle game. As the name suggests, you are blind and unable to see most things around you other than blurry white images that become more realized as you get closer.
Much like myself, you may find this game on Steam when you are going through the VR section, you end up buying it and go to play it to then notice something. While there is ‘’SteamVR Support’’ or enough to let you launch the game at least, it doesn’t let you use it or any other SteamVR dependent software like WalkinVR or OVR Advanced Settings and others that you may use otherwise.
On a positive note, you don’t need to worry about a seated mode if you are someone who has to play VR in the seated position as the game has you at standing height no matter what, and with the software incompatibilities spoken about above, this is very good.
As for changeable controls the answer is sadly no. I will say that luckily there is not much you need to worry about control wise which is a little breath of relief. You are tied to smooth movement only which can be an issue for some so keep it in mind. You have some choices though when it comes to turning with smooth turning, snap turning, and of course physical turning.
As the game is fully black and white I think it goes without saying that there are no color blind modes to speak of. You do have Closed Captions, so whether you are hard of hearing or you just like having them on in games, they are there.
While you are able to get relatively close to things in this game you will still need a fair amount of reach to interact with everything needed, so I’m going to have to say that you will need Full arm and upper body movement.
I can't recommend this game because it is basically broken (at least for me, but others I've seen too). Aside from the fact that some puzzles are obtuse my main issue is items on the floor can't be grabbed easily or at all in some cases. I can't even progress past a certain point I won't spoil because an item required to see later on is dropped in front of me and I can't get it. Hacks shouldn't be necessary to progress in the game, messing with my height settings didn't help anyway. There really should be a feature to pull stuff to you if your hand is hovered over it/near it like most VR games do.
Pros would be the interesting echo locations sound visuals but thats really it.
Enjoyable VR explore and solve varied simple puzzles with a unique sound vision gameplay approach. Fun.
There's something wrong with the controls. I turn my character, then everything is off. Pushing up to walk straight, becomes aligned differently. Just walking around to the different doors, can become a task. That's no fun. Never experienced anything like it...
This is a really interesting take on gaming in VR, imo an experience that can only be felt in vr. Super creepy. And a steal on it's sale price. I do see some people saying they are getting stuck on puzzles, but haven't hit any bugs for me, so maybe they just got stuck on the puzzle
the concept was pretty fun. i like the puzzles and the overall style. however there are two bit of finding cogs that i really didn't like. as for the story it wasn't nuts but it wasn't too bad (i did like the twist).
Entertained myself by juggling items per usual...Neat puzzles and an amazing concept I've been looking for with the whole blind protagonist in VR. Though the "danger" was a little underwhelming but it was pretty interesting.
Buggy af on the Index, constant squatting/standing which made it a battle to complete. Also had doors open and the game didn't draw the room behind it, fell through the floor twice. Great mechanic, badly executed. Avoid
I tried playing the game on Index with Knuckles and couldn't get it working so switched to Oculus Rift with Touch controllers. I was floating in the air for majority of the time pondering about using OVR Advanced Settings to at least be able to hit the floor with my cane. By default the locomotion is set to play space orientation but can thankfully be switched to follow head or controller (I use this one if possible). Even though the game has vignetting it did not help me and I got seriously sick. So I turned it off and finished the game walking mostly in darkness because seeing darkness was not upsetting my stomach.
This game can be played by deaf people. Sound is not that important with the exception of one puzzle that you can just bruteforce. The game has subtitles so the story can be read.
-----------------
Blind is an adventure puzzle game with a dark story and unique concept.
You are Jean, driving your little brother somewhere. A man appears in front of you and you crash into a tree. You wake up in a unknown but familiar mansion. You open your eyes but find out that you can't see. After a while a voice guides you to a main room where you learn that in order to escape the mansion you have to solve all the puzzles it contains. As you progress you will realize that things are not as real as they seem to be at first and you will slowly realize what is going on.
Walking around the mansion can be a bit frustrating to those used to see all the time. If you stop and stand still, everything around you will turn dark (unless it makes sound). In order to 'see' you need to produce sound be it with objects you find or with a cane you get later on. Each sound produced will temporarily show you a certain part of an area around you depending on how strong the sound was. You will be allowed to explore the mansion and solve all kinds of different puzzles. Even though you are supposedly blind, the puzzles are often visual and do not use sound much even though one of the earlier puzzles is to put together a song. The puzzles are not difficult nor too easy. The thing is, you have to follow the instructions given to you. If you miss the hints you will have to figure it out on your own and the puzzles don't have the most logical solution. All you need to do is pay attention to your surroundings and to what you hear. If you do that you won't have problems finishing the game.
The whole game is played in the dark - the graphics being done in black and white. The louder sound you produce the whiter will be what you see. Too loud of a sound can make you go blind for a second. Light touches will illuminate just a very small area so you will need to figure out how much sound is needed to illuminate what you need to see. It's nothing beautiful to look at but works well to immerse you in 'darkness'. Since you can hear sounds from the inside of objects you are also capable to see cogs and wheel and tubes in the walls which is really nice.
The sound effects are great. The cane produces different sounds depending on what you tap with it. The sound can be sharp if you hit something metallic or stone and will be a muffled thud if you hit a carpet or something else that is soft. Other sound effects are good and can be used to orient yourself in the dark (on the other hand you will also see what produces the sound). Soundtrack is created from one beautiful song you will here in the credits. Voice acting is something I did not like at all and I think it could have been done better.
Verdict: I would recommend the game to anyone looking for a narrative driven adventure game with exploration and puzzles. The game requires thus a bit of patience. The experience of using echolocation to walk around may be stressful to some. It is a unique experience though and I think it is worth exploring it. I orient myself by sound in real life and I had a totally different experience when playing the game. Honestly the idea of throwing objects on the ground to 'see' did not even come to my mind at all and I had no problem walking around without the cane. Everything you need to see can be heard or actually seen. So if you get stuck just stand still and listen/look around.
I would not recommend the game to people who are impatient and are used to quality of life features and games with good controls and stuff actually working as they should.
Blind is a wonderful VR game. It's puzzles are juuuust hard enough and it's very well polished! The only complaint I had is that when key items were placed on the floor I'd have to use OVR Advanced Settings to change my view too close to the floor to be able to pick up the item. Other than that-
100% would recommend! If you want fun sound based game play with puzzles to solve and the unintentional creep factor that you will learn being blind, then this game is a must!
Interesting concept with an ok execution. Some of the puzzles were impossible if you don't know music stuff (Which I don't) so you may need a guide. I'd say buy it on sale.
Pretty good! Successfully gives the feeling of being in an unfamiliar place in the dark. Nothing too difficult and a decent reveal of story/backstory.
Two niggles:
1: There is once instance of color in an otherwise greyscale game and it's used in a puzzle. It's fine from a story standpoint but might not be colorblind friendly. I wish that puzzle was set up differently; sound-based ideally. Pentatonic scale would have been perfect.
2: Some noises don't 'illuminate' as much space as their volume would imply and a few sounds don't 'illuminate' at all. Drawers and cabinets are the most noticeable for this. With how the systems are set up, opening a drawer should allow you to 'see' the drawer and its contents as they shift around. (Will edit if this is a settings thing)
Still Recommended. 👍
concept looks good, but controls are clunky, for some reason ground is like 20 cm below me, and everything just doesn't feel good to play.
This is a great puzzle game with a okay story. The game play was definitely unique. Is it worth full price? Not really. On sale? Sure
It's funny, I started this game some time ago using my WMR headset and it was working fine. Coming back now with Oculus Quest using Link and I discover all controller bindings are broken and glitchy. I almost never write reviews, but this pissed me off.
I bought this game because I liked the concept and I wanted to support the developers I met at Codemotion in 2018, however this is not the way to support your game after only 2 and a half years. The VR market is rapidly evolving and this title could still be worth playing on newer devices, but like it is it's just a game that aged too fast and missed an opportunity.
Stuck in the third room, music based puzzle that I'm to tone deaf to solve. And honestly I thought it was a fun concept, but sitting there in a dark helmet is about as much fun as sitting in a dark helmet listening to a broken jack in the box.
The game badly needs some QoL and bugfixing updates. It's mostly playable, but it does things like start you with your movement being relative to the world. As in, up on the left stick/pad is "North" not "Forward". If you've never had to move like that in a VR game where you're supposed to look in any direction around you, I wouldn't advise trying it unless you're that kind of masochist.
There's a bug early on with a step-ladder which causes me to to hover a solid foot or two above the ground, various minor glitches that take some experimenting to work around, and bizarre controls that aren't explained, and from what I can tell, don't work with SteamVR controls remapping.
It's a decent VR experiment with a passable story and puzzles if you're into that kind of thing, but as a game to recommend in general, there are other, much more polished and recently updated games you could play instead.
A good idea simply implemented. But while I can look past the melodramatic story, which never attains anything like its aim of giving psychological thrills, not being worthy of a high school essay, I cannot ignore the glitches in gameplay. For me this has finally broken the game on the Oculus. Along the way I had a few bugs which I could overcome, but now I'm blocked, unless I start a new game perhaps - and I'm really not going to play this all over again.
I'm stuck at the later stage of the game, and I can confirm from watching other players duck under a blocking grandfather clock and pass on, I cannot do the same, not when using the oculus. The game will glitch and changes view to make me ten foot tall! I've crawled and tried every trick, but cannot progress past that clock.
Buggy and broken on oculus it seems.
I'm surprised that the "Top" reviewer, who received this game for free, only played this for 1.9 hours. Other positive reviews also have very low playtime. How many actually tried to finish this game I wonder?
Unless you cheat the whole way, there is easily 4 hours of gameplay...until you get stuck that is.
I've been stumbling around a room for the better half of 40 hours in the dark. I can't tell between reality and gameplay. 10/10 realism.
Blind starts like a very interesting narrative puzzle, but ends as an unbearable chore. The gameplay of the last few "levels"(
it starts when the cane is taken away) is just the worst I've ever experienced in VR adventure games.
I liked the first half of Blind though, it is really original with its focus on sound in puzzles and level design. And the story was engaging and well paced, that scene of the family dinner viewed from protagonist's perspective was really intense and intentionally uncomfortable.
I absolutely adored the cane, it sounds and feels really good. The only thing it is missing is the Whoosh sound when you cut the air quickly)
Overall:
7/10 - first half,
4/10 - last half,
9/10 - the cane.
