The Story:
At the age of 13, you leave your parents, go to the city to learn a job and aiming to build your own trade empire at the time of real commercial and though exchanges expansion. You choose the city, each one has its difficulty level, you choose your parents, whose respective jobs predispose you to have specific qualities, and you choose your business among the old fashionned Middle Age jobs. Run your own business, manage your workers properly as to be the more productive you can, and hire guards to protect your goods... Because even if you get better than the competitors, they can destroy your work and your goods... That's the difficult world of business affairs!Key features:

Brings back such warm feelings even after all these years...
It needs a little bit of modding work as do most games this old to work properly due to newer systems and scales.
The first launch option is by itself useless as the lag in game is too much to bear,
the second would be the way to go if not the save games getting randomly corrupted mid game and you losing all your progress as a maiden loses her cherry. Hence the modding needed.
Luckily it only takes a .dll file and the troubles are away. Community hub dicussions got what youre looking for if you decide this little gem is worth it and I highly think it is. For such an old game, the twists and turns, the history, the setting, overall gameplay, all a breath of fresh air even after all this time.
The gameplay is good
One of the best games I used to play as a child. Lovely winter nights I recall venturing into it, building my name in the economy simulation. From time to time I play it and it hits the same.
Oh, i wish for remaster. Make it more polished, even deepends game mechanics. Fix bugs. Ultimate The Guild experience (not that Guild 3 fail where too many bugs and features made it complete mess)
Such a charming game! I adore the soundtrack and the atmosphere. The game isn't super complex but it goes so deep. I play this at least once a year in the colder seasons.
Too bad these games don't receive much love.

Compete against the dynasties of other merchant or scoundrel families. Therefore to ensure continuance woo a partner and have offspring as early as possible by dishing out gifts or platitudes to a partner of the preference. It's possible to play with a goal or without and you can get some initial stats by choosing your parents. Using dirty tricks against your opponents is not only possible but encouraged. When competing for a post, spray deterring perfume on the elector and a rival nominee so they hate each other. If playing as a thief, feel free to kidnap another rival nominee or even the head of another dynasty to keep them from progressing. Your dynasty can own many different businesses so start by learning the ropes of one, then let your successor master another trade. The ultimate goal is to own the whole city and rank only below the emperor and pope. Every turn is one year of your character's life and there's not much you can do with your limited fortune, but eventually you'll have a plethora of things to manage. The easiest and the cheesiest way to start is by being a thief and getting 2 underlings asap, then maxing out their stealth to pickpocket effortlessly, then promoting them and hiring more. This profession let's you unfairly sabotage with the overpowered kidnapping. Don't forget to utilize the artifacts you get from the marketplace. Perfumer and gravedigger are also great professions for the income, but riskier, as your rival dynasty can for example make perfumes illegal. It's not the most balanced game, but it's great fun and unlike anything else.
This was one of my favorite games as a kid. It's old and a little buggy, but still good.
The manual is a bit lacking (it doesn't explain how to change faiths--you interact with the altar of a church--and some stuff like that), but still worth googling if you're a little lost.
it's a good "just one more turn" game. very addictive. the first time losing a family member hit unexpectedly hard, and the "you are about to die" message is the creepiest notification i've ever seen in a game.
but there is a well-known bug that causes player's saves to become corrupted after a certain number of in-game years, and the developers have done nothing to fix it. in fact, you'll need to browse old german gaming forums to find fan-made fixes, which rarely work anymore. i cannot describe how frustrating it was to lose a 12-hour game because it kept crashing to desktop at the exact same in-game time, no matter how many saves i reloaded. all that investment flushed down the toilet. don't buy this.
