I can't tell you very much about the game at this point, because I have not gotten very far through it. I have progressed far enough to see that the backstory is about a car crash and/or a mental health crisis, and this, frankly, is not the sort of thing for which I play a game. But I also had problems getting just from A to B, before being able to grasp the big picture. There were too many problems, in my opinion, advancing the player through the fictional world--trying to find the next goal, the next place to go--to justify spending a lot of time at it. There were long walks through rooms and corridors where the player tries in vain to find anything of importance, possibly mirroring the delirious mind of the crash victim, but not exactly endearing to someone just trying to play the game. If there is something more profound than this that the developers are trying to convey, I am not aware of it. And the game is not exactly beautiful, the graphics not entirely charming, the quiet music extremely repetitive.
An interesting little game, that I feel is more of an exploration game than a puzzle game. The art was unique and interesting, and it was a pretty neat world to move around in. None of the puzzles were particularly challenging, I would have liked to see more from them as a matter of fact - there were some neat ideas I would've like to see explored more. But for a couple bucks it's a cool experience.
I think the game could have benefited from some tightening up of the controls, and a sensitivity slider.
Meh walking sim (I facetiously qualify this as a walking sim as the puzzles are too easy). The story doesn't pull me in and the physics can sometimes be uncanny. If you have time to spare and don't necessary want to play a quality game to pass the time, you might like this. Not me though.

Sorry, this game is just not good. The puzzles are way too easy, mostly "fetch item and insert someplace" or "use obvious clue on panel around the next corner". Not very entertaining.

A short and simple puzzle game that takes 45-60 minutes to beat. There are a few bugs, but nothing gamebreaking that I found. None of the puzzles were mind-blowing, but none were infuriating either. The game is seriously lacking options - the mouse sensitivity is set to "Absurdly High", with no way to turn it down.
Overall, not great, but not bad either. Worth picking up on sale if you're a puzzle-game aficionado.
I was actually enjoying the game until I got to the creature statues. I got all the gems into the eyes and a big pedestal is supposed to come out of the ground so you can punch in some numbers that you get. I only know this because I watched a walkthrough because I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. I wasn't doing anything wrong. The pedestal never came up. I even replayed the level, still nothing. Waste of time. Maybe I should just download it on my phone and it'll probably work there since you can get it on Playstore. Blah. Good thing it was only 99 cents.
Very simple puzzles, very bare bones story. Don't know if it's a dying simulator or if the kid wakes up fine in the hospital bed at the end, but I didn't care enough to find out. The game either glitched or suffered such a massive difficulty spike that I got stuck and could no longer progress. The rotating room with the levers. The controls simply do not function in a logical fashion. If you can't tell the difference between a bug and intentional level design, in either case, the game has failed.
The Journey Back is a fairly interestingly stylised game with a handful of puzzles and a fair if not unsatisfying story that lacks any real depth. The game play is simple, you walk around this world trying to find your sister after being involved in a car crash, there are some items you must collect in order to progress but it overall feels quite minimal as you will spend most of the time walking into virtually empty rooms. The music is good and the visuals are nice, a few graphical issues aside this is an adventure point and click game that can be completed in about an hour with very little difficulty.
Also, I got this game and 4 others in the most recent sale and only paid 14p, this game I ended up paying only 2p for because I had 5.00 off so definitely worth it.
Definitely buggy, even with spelling errors, cliche topic, and story that is obvious from the Steam descirption and the game title.
However, being a low-budget, one-man project, as well as inexpensive and short, it offers more than it takes. It is a satisfying gaming experience borrowing puzzle elements from The Witness and level design from The Beginner's Guide (with a more naive approach but still admirable).
For sure it can take much much polishing but still it is a good first step for the developer and a nice 1hour to spend for the player.
That's a tough one. It's short, it's not that challenging and i wished that there would be a plot twist as i knew about 5 minutes in the game what the ending will be like. But i really liked the atmosphere.
Some negative points:
* The sound when you do something right is really bad and kills it every single time
* Games like that require voice acting, spend those few bucks on a voice actor and it would be a game changer
For the price, still a recommendation from me.
I feel like I have never wanted a neutral option more! I found the puzzles pretty easy but had to look online for hints in a couple of spots. I liked it ok for a point and click simple walkthrough. Interesting back story. One thing I want to give a warning about, it you easily get motion sick the movement in this game might be an issue. I had to take sea sick pills to get through it but maybe I am more sensative than most!
I found the game a bit challenging at times, but it is a quick game about 2 hours to play. About 5 levels long.
Much of the game is a hidden item, once you have all the items you're on your way.
Enjoyed playing it and I hope they plan to add more to the game and it's puzzles.
Can't recommend... because it is too buggy to finish...
For example... only on red Gem to be had... so the dragon can't be unlocked. (apparently, one of the chests gliched and lost a jem).
Also, one of the levers gliched out of position, and stays that way... even when restarting.
This is my first ever review so bare with me if it's a little bit rubbish.
I bought this game because I had £2 left in my bank account (living the poor student life as you can see) and I had the option of either buying this game, or spending it on a pack of sausage rolls before work. And as much as I love sausage rolls, I feel like this was the better investment. Although not a ground-breaking game, I did quite enjoy playing through it. It takes about an hour to finish, maybe less but I'm actually really terrible at puzzles so I got stuck on a couple of occasions. The story was okay I guess, but it's pretty obvious what the big conclusion is gonna be within about ten minutes of playing. The graphics confused me to begin with, the stylisation just looked to me as a bit lazy but I soon grew to actually find the environment charming in its own way. Although, I put a strong emphasis on 'environment', as the only character model within the whole game isn't exactly up to the same standard...you'll see what I mean.
I would just like to say that my biggest issue with this game, apart from a few bugs here and there, was the sound. Some of the sound effects for doors opening etc. were so over the top and quite often didn't even really sound like what they were supposed to. And there is a weird breathing that's hardly noticeable all throughout the audio which I'm not sure whether it's accidental or intentional but once I noticed it it really put me off.
My main judging criteria is whether I had fun playing this game, and I can whole-heartedly say yes. At less than £2, it's worth the price, and I feel like a lot of love went into making it despite its imperfections which make it a rather charming and enjoyable game to play. Leave the sausage rolls for now, buy this instead.
For me i took around 1.5 hours and it was weird acutally. "SPOILER" Still did not get connection between ventilation system and computers. Also iron door :D Eh yeah I liked this game and bought to support the developer. Actually 2$ is worth for this game. I believe they can do more complex and less bugged game. :)
EDIT: By the way, the environment was really cool. Especially first section the game was nice. Whole parts of the game low poly and it seems basic but its compeletely peacefull. Lastly I wonder what happened the man who was looking to accident at the beginning.
Really nice atmosphere and music. It's a nice world to explore, but too glitchy for me. Would definitely be interested in a first person adventure/exploration game like this but with less bugs.
The Journey Back is such a vibrant and good looking game, with a nice soundtrack and some decent puzzles that'll make you question why society puts the door key right under the doormat.
Although it's not rediculously long this game provides you with more than $2 of good times and is well worth the price tag. I enjoy the 10+ birds in the game that make the atmosphere that much more enjoyable and the spinning windmill is pretty sweet.
This game has a few problems, not so much glitches as much as bugs and general game design faults, let me list the few I found in my time playing:
-Stairs act like a slippery slope, if you're not walking up you'll randomly slip down?
-At the top of the windmill if you head inside through the door you kinda spaz out a little but it's not too bad.
-They've labeled a block purple on a billboard when it's pink, now this is the part where I got stuck so I'm not sure if this was some sort of fault or if I'm just retarded at puzzles.
All in all this game is about a 5-6 out of 10, if it were to give you more to the story and gave you a few things to read (that gave you a clue as to why you'd crashed and such) it would be swell, I mean the character could be 10 and could have illegally driven a car, but I guess we won't know?

Linux version does not work well. Walks around on its own and gets stuck, making it impossible to play.
I would really write a positive review because, despite some glitches you can find, i like the atmosphere of the game, but expecially for the price: 1.99€ It's almost like 1/2 coffes so..
This game takes about an hour to finish. It's a bit buggy at certain parts (I was able to skip an entire puzzle by simply being able to jump over a fence), but all in all it was a fun hour. The puzzles are not difficult. At all. The interface was also really wonky and that coupled with the inconsistent graphics constantly remind you that you aren't playing a AAA release.
That said, I really did enjoy the surreal environments and I thought the plot was great. Is it worth $2? I'd say the game is priced fairly or is at least in the ballpark. Pick it up!
