Non-Windows users: as of the writing of this review, this game still does not work with any version of Proton — it simply fails to start. You can find more details on Proton DB.
Simple fun game, not too much to expect
This game is VERY unique, with an amazing chill atmosphere. It's a color-based 3d match-3 game with gravity physics. Headphones recommended.
The music is good, but the game play is an absolute mess.
It's too easy to make marbles move when you don't want them to.
Also, both holding the left mouse button can 'freeze' time as well as launch a marble, making it very easily to fire a marble in the wrong place, thus failing a puzzle quickly. The right mouse button does the SAME thing. Not sure why they couldn't fix this by just holding right mouse to freeze time, and left click to launch marbles.
There also doesn't seem to be any solution guides to all of the puzzles, so if you get stuck, game over. :\
Maybe the developers can do some kind of rare update to fix the issues, but I have doubts about it happening.
I can't really recommend this game. There are much better puzzle games out there with better controls.
Puzzle games are supposed to be fun. This one simply wasn't fun. So many better puzzle games out there.
She's borked. Crashes with all versions of proton, which is strange because this game originally released as Linux native.
QuantZ isn't bad, and has some surprising plus points. Visually the game has aged remarkably well, slowdown on some transitions aside, and the audio is pleasant, if repetitive. In fact, 'pleasant but repetitve' sum this puzzle game up quite neatly. It has a decent amount of content for a puzzler, is easy to pick up and play, and has a fairly interesting premise. It just gets dull too swiftly.
The idea is to fling coloured balls down towards a cube that you can rotate at will - a match game with the twist that you can reposition the balls already in play by spinning the cube. This sounds good, and you can do some bizarre and wacky things with the physics, but in practice you're cracking a nut with a sledgehammer. The game was designed for a touchscreen, and it's difficult to finesse individual spheres about the place; mostly you'll resort to flailing the cube wildly and hoping that everything resettles in a more favourable configuration. There are other gimmicks to spice up gameplay, but the tried-and-tested formula is always present.
I spent a decent amount of time with the game, and found that although Action and Strategy modes both have twelve distinct worlds, they may as well be the same game mode. You'll very rarely run out of time or balls in the latter, so you can treat it in the same manner as you would the former. I blitzed through the Action section and had a decent time of it, but things got stale pretty sharpish. The Puzzle mode consists of preset playing fields with a very low number of balls to play with...you'll have to caress them with a delicate touch, and complete the eruptions in as few strokes as possible. Ahem. It was a welcome distraction, but ultimately when things got difficult (and some of the achievements are absolutely dastardly), I found myself wondering why I was still playing.
2009 wasn't exactly an eon ago, but in terms of games on Steam it's about as ancient as the Steam Age itself. QuantZ was probably facing a less cluttered puzzle field back then; nowadays, with so many other options available, I can't recommend a game this limited.
For 10 dollars, this game is not worth it.
The game is a pretty good deal if you could get it for less than 5 dollars.
I gave it a fair amount of time but I really didn't enjoy myself with this one. It's not horrible but it isn't fantastic either. I just found myself wanting to play a different puzzle game instead.
Game was fun for the first few hours, afterwards, it became increasingly obvious that this is basically another bubble popping game in a 3D package and a very 'woo'/third eye/ascended/crystals and alchemy type vibe. It's cool, it's stlylized, it's not very challenging and after the fun wears off, it's pretty tedious (as all games). I enjoyed it but it has limited shelf life.
I've had this game for a while and only recently picked it back up. It's a pretty cool concept and a nice brain exercise for puzzle lovers (not to mention addictive as hell). One big issue, though, is that transition sequences have blindingly bright, totally unnecessary flashing light animations. I have to play this game with my monitor on the lowest brightness setting--otherwise it gives me a migraine.
Match coloured pearls and make them explode. Hundreds of puzzles. Very challenging. Very fun.
This game is sort of interesting, but...If you are a heavy puzzle fan who must play everything, go for it, but, I warn you, you've probably seen this before. If you aren't...find a better version. This is a 3d puzzle in which colored pieces drop onto the field while you spin the field so the pieces land on a group of like colored spheres, which will then explode. Detonate a group surrounding another colored piece, and that piece will explode upward and then drop, burning away like colored spheres, and possibly causing more explosions. Quantz's one unique feature is that your pieces are mostly free moving. Shake the field and the pieces move. Shake hard, and everything goes flying, before resettling into a (hopefully) better position. For a puzzle game, Quantz is pretty easy. The only time I've ever failed a stage was I tried to do something fancy, and ignored my timer.
Petit jeu bien sympa, certes pas exceptionnel, mais qui vaut bien un petit coup d'oeil
For a brief period in my life i was fascinated by indie and casual games. I got bejeweled 2, astro pop, heavy weapon, peggle nights, and others.
This game is what ended my casual player fever. It is utterly horrible. Don't buy it.
On an unrelated note, eversion is what brought back my faith in indie games.
Beautiful, zen-like strategy-puzzle game. Recommended whether you want something relaxing to play or something to challenge your mind.
Gameplay is a little shaky at first, but once you get used to this game it is awesome. It is very enjoyable, and a great use of brain power!
Interesting game at the very least. Camera angle can be slightly confusing, and the physics are hard to master, but the game itself is a refreshing change of pace from the standard puzzle fare.
Great game if you can grab it on sale and you enjoy puzzle games. Well designed graphically, interesting concept, challenging puzzles, and cool euphoric trance music.
3/5 Stars
