About the Game
Contradiction is a unique adventure / murder mystery game that uses live-action video for the entirety of the game play. All you have to do is interview characters, spot their lies and catch them out! Contradiction is a brand new take on the concept of an interactive movie and brings the genre to a whole new level of playability. It plays as smoothly as a 3D graphic game. You can wander freely around the game environment, collecting evidence and witnessing constantly changing events. But the game is all about interviewing the characters you meet, questioning them about all the evidence you’ve collected and things you’ve seen, then spotting contradictions in their answers. Pair two contradictions together and watch them try to worm out of it! Works best plugged into a TV preferably with a bunch of people to help spot the lies - but can be played alone on your laptop or PC just fine! The legacy version of the game with French subtitles by Pierre-Laurent Batut is also available for download on a Beta branch, again instructions are pinned to the top of the discussions forum.Поддерживаемые языки: english

Loved the game, just wish it had more endings
what a refreshing game. Love England and love the charm of the aesthetics.
Short but gripping detective game, with a similar feel to Tangle Tower at points (though understandably less polished). The game can feel slightly tedious at times as you wander back and forth to speak to every person about every bit of evidence - this could be quickened by removing the short door-opening and door-closing scenes shown every time.
With regards to the ending, though I feel that the murderer's motives make sense, it was quite underwhelming as the contradiction you point out to get the confession seems rather minor in the grand scheme of things. I felt that there weren't many hints in this direction, which could have allowed for a very satisfying twist if only we had more chance to pull at this final thread. I was very much caught off guard when I realised that the game was ending
Brilliant game for anyone who loves a bit of detective FMVing. The contradiction system is fun, the setting is suitable eerie, the acting is a surprisingly effective mix of hamming it up and naturalistic styles and there's an internally consistent logical flow throughout the entire thing. It has a few obtuse moments but nothing game breaking and has a good inbuilt tip system to get you over any humps.
The biggest negative by far is the loose ends it leaves, it builds quite a complex world out but then resolves the central strand and leaves the rest completely unanswered. You can see the budget constraints really kicking in the last three chapters as a main character just become kind of worthless and unexplored.
It's a shame, it would be awesome to have had the world expanded and the story properly completed but that's never going to be, which is a bit frustrating. Due to that it also leaves a significant chunk of the game being pretty redundant to the overall plot. The final resolution is kind of obvious from quite early on so the rest become a bit pointless in the context of the ending.
All that however doesn't mean the journey itself isn't great fun. It's well put together, really enjoyable and well worth a few quid of anyone's time. The fact that the lack of expansion is it's biggest drawback is just evidence of how good what is there is.
fun, hammy and delightfully over-the-top. Sometimes the logic gets a bit frustrating (similar contradictions won't work, making you think you've already tried the real solution) and The UI isn't the easiest to navigate at times, but if you enjoy even the idea of FMV games you'll get a kick out of this one.
Fantastic, compelling, and fun! I'd love to see more like this, some sort of sequel or connected story. Thank you to the team!
Game is pure Meme Material. I love how much the actor for the Detective cartoonishly overacts almost every scene while everybody else seems normal. He seems way too motivated for his job but I love him anyway.
Controls are simple and the story is actually really gripping and interesting, which made me excited for a sequel! But there was none.
That is the only negative thing I have to say about this game. The story is unlikely to ever receive a much needed sequel. From what I remember, it was stated that this game was so much effort that funds were simply missing for a second game. Shame.
On top of that, my dear *head of Mafia looking* Guy sadly passed away a few years ago.
Rest in peace. You successfully scared the crap out of me.
This game was an instant cult classic for my family! The mystery is interesting to investigate, and we love the performances of the actors and some of the visual option implications (there's a house where it looks like you can pick to head up to the door to talk to one member of the house or climb in through the window to talk to the other). Highly memorable and quote-worthy, a treasured experience between us.
On top of it all, the dev is extremely kind and helpful- My computer was experiencing issues with the game due to its own age, and he helped me troubleshoot a solution. Games with devs like this deserve a lot of respect and support!
It just keeps crashing all the time. I have to save between every single character interaction and piece of evidence discovered. I'm approaching the 90% progress mark and it has crashed the last 5 times I tried to open it and progress.
Actually has some good performances, some not so much. By the end of it I was pretty invested in the story and the characters, especially Jenks
Now.... This game is AMAZING!!!!!!111!!!!1!!!!1!!!!
I'm not joking when I say that at one point I said "Hot digity dog! I'm Sherlock Holmes now!"
Contradiction is a FMV detective game which sparked back my interest in the genre. The British acting, starring Rupert Booth as the main character is among the lovable bunch in the game along with many others. Set in a British small town, a murder mystery involving a shady training centre, you need to sift through the many statements by the people within to find the contradiction among the statements. As lies builds onto lies, you soon find out the actual situation.
The story may not be groundbreaking, but the acting and setting adds a lot to the British charm of it, its just a pity its set within a small area due to a small budget funded by Kickstarter but its a great effort with the limitations. It's just a pity it didn't spawn more sequels despite the many other hidden layers alluded during the game.
I enjoyed this the acting is very fun. Some parts are kind of hilariously nonchalant which for me just added to the experience. I would love to see more. The sassy old gent is so my favorite.
What an unexpected treat to find the incomparable Paul Darrow playing one of the main characters in this game. I absolutely adored watching him play Avon in Blake's 7 back in my younger days and it's a pity I missed this game when it originally came out as I would have been queuing up for a sequel so I could see more of Paul's perfect portrayal of a b***** (even when he was a hero he was deliciously dark and snarky). Even now I'd still wish for a continuation of the story, it was very engaging and left so much more to be explored despite giving a complete solution to the original crime.
My only minor gripe was a couple of times I found a contradiction that wasn't part of the 'script' that just didn't get a reaction which was frustrating but even so, the story had me completely hooked and I really enjoyed myself. If you're okay with games where action isn't the focus then I highly recommend this one.
An amazing game, great job everyone who did this. I need a sequel.
Can't believe Jimmy got a girlfriend.
As a mystery game fan, this scratched the itch perfectly. It had interesting logic challenges that let you feel smart when you solved them, and it also doesn't waste your time- there's fast-travel that's definitely absent from other games like this. The acting was so fun, the writing was great, and it was the perfect length. I wish there was a Nancy Drew-level amount of games like this!
Loads of fun!! So unique and interesting. Gameplay is simple yet very engaging. Loved all the actors!
Quite a short 'who done it' game with an masterfully done story that keeps you guessing. 4/5
A bit tedious going back and forth to interview each person of interest each time a new clue comes up, but that goes with the territory. Story, cut scenes and Jenksy were enjoyable. Looking forward to Contradiction 2!
What a great game! I would play many more like this--clever and creative. More, please.
I recommended this game to my friend who hates videogames, and he loved it. Please Tim Follin, make more games like this, everyone loves them.
I loved it. The acting was brilliant, navigation was uncomplicated, the scenes were on point - I was able to immersive myself and be a part of the story and the best part was finding clues and analysing. I was a little disappointed that it was so short and I am looking forward to the next one. Well done.
If I did.... THIS: 👍
Would it mean anything to you?
A very solid FMV experience, especially if you're into mysteries. Controller support is surprisingly good. My only complaint is the tedium of having to stop-by-stop check every single location when you're unsure where to go next. There was a period in the game where I spent 10-20m just going to the same locations over and over again to see if I missed anything. Besides that a solid 9/10 FMV game. Definitely aged well.
simple, short whodunnit game, very enjoyable, the story goes places I did not expect it to. unfortunately the controls are very bad and there are lots of loose ends at the end and after 10 years I don't think it will get a sequel but I enjoyed what I played and I can recommend it wholeheartedly. the characters are likable, the dialogue is good.
Was an enjoyable little solve the mystery game, and can see where they wanted to be a little creative and unlike others. Going with the Video and the questions/contradiction system takes a little getting used to but does make sense as one goes along. Just be advised if done right it's a One and Done.
Absolutely loved it. Can't wait the potential sequel. Also would love trading cards for this game. <3
Lots of fun. Man actor is the best.
Fun investigation, intriguing story
It's ok to try this format once, but I wouldn't play another one of these.
The acting is cheesy, but I don't think that's an issue. It actually has a certain cheesy charm. My issue is, as a puzzle/investigation game, this doesn't really work.
1. You're only allowed to find contradictions between two statements by the same person. You can't confront someone about something another person mentioned, or about a certain piece of evidence. This limits and slows you down quite a lot, creating a mismatch between what your character knows and what you know. For example, I immediately saw the window was taped with the same tape as the driving license , but I couldn't ask about it until the very end.
2. There's little logic in what comes next. Basically, instead of getting a clue and choosing the direction of your investigation based on that clue, you just walk around all the NPCs, mechanically asking them about it, and then calling the chief. Then you know you have all information there is to know, and start looking for contradictions. Not a very creative process, no real "a-ha" moments.
3. The things people choose to lie about are... pretty silly. It's usually something pretty obvious, or even unnecessary, to lie about.
All in all, interesting idea, but not the best game experience.
Love the cheesy acting
Feels like murder mystery theatre but you're at home
It's like Clue but with video
Great story, acting, and video quality. Some typos and UI errors here and there, but they don't distract me from enjoying the game. Controller support was nice.
This FMV game is utterly amazing. If you read between the lines, it is an in-depth critique of Ayn Rand's philosophy with a muder-mystery keeping all the viewers hooked. It was so much fun and was packed with symbolic tones and imagery. This will be an instant classic for me. I look forward to showing this game to my friends and family.
If you love murder-mysteries and enjoy symbolic analysis of deep philosophical principles, get this game. I look forward to the next release by this studio!
This game is unique, incredible and I wish there were more like it, and that the developer made a sequel! I can't recommend it enough.
Such a fun mystery game like no other that I've played. I loved the quaint English village atmosphere and talking with all of the characters. The story kept me guessing until the end and I would LOVE to see more in the series. Would highly recommend to any fans of the Nancy Drew games.
Take this from a lover of mystery. An engaging story that works and tickles your brain in all the right places as you put yourself in the shoes of the tireless Detective Jenks. All I can say I hope that we can still more of the detective and the team who created him and this wonderful journey of mystery and intrigue
Fun and lighthearted FMV game.
I loved the characters and the over the top acting.
The main game mechanic works for the majority of the game, with only a couple of section where it is actually hard to remember the detail that make that two specific sentences a contradiction, but the experience was overall very positive.
Absolutely recommended!
As others have said, this is a total cringe-fest after 2-3 hours. Terrible dialogue. Very tedious and linear with arbitrary progress gates.
I've played it before and I loved it. I like the atmosphere: the wind and leaves and slight rustic rustling of the little village, the nice smooth transitions between screens, the way it all ties together to realize the setting and get the person playing into the shoes of the detective. Something about the acting overall came across a bit amateurish but really endearing and with character. Catching the various folks in a lie is very satisfying, especially since doing so directly sparks the direction of the plot in a natural way; it's very rewarding and makes you pay more closer attention. I can happily recommend.
Was the game horrible, noooo.. technically not horrible, but there are aspects of it that I find problematic, and if there's ever a future in this type of genre of games, I hope they'll take this these opinions into consideration. My main issue the things that would clearly be a contradiction you can't use to point out, furuther more, if you're getting statements from several people, you should be able to compare the statements to get the truth, if you have several people stating a time someone was seen somehwere, and ONE person stating a different place that person was scene at the same time, why can't you point that out? further more... and I don't know how to do this without it being a spoiler, but it's not something you can do anything with because the game doesn't recognize it being a contradiction... someone had died previously, and it was set a time period before atlas, but it was also mentioned that something that is suppose to have been done at the same date of this death, was also happens to be done during atlas days, (spoiler part here, the whole reason why atlas is a new name) but you can't point that out anywhere, the time line is all sorts of messed up because of these statements. It would be nice to have a notepad to write your own notes in and make your own timeline to follow, and compare contradictions to THOSE notes instead of just one person's own words. MAYBE this would be easier to follow if that was the system you could use? It took me about over 3 hrs to complete this game, DON'T know if I'd ever try a sequel if one were to be made unless these glaring issues were thought about.
👌
I love this game and have replayed it a few times now. Wish they'd make a sequel!
This was a very fun and un-serious mystery and I loved every minute of it, granted there were times where I got a bit lost and frustrated but overall this was a very enjoyable FMV with a very interesting mystery at it's centre. Also for being 9 years old I feel like its aged very well.
RIP Paul Darrow <3
Game was brilliant from start to finish. I enjoyed the acting, the plot and the twists. Wish there were more like this.
Small budget indie FMV. It was a nice game to play when I didn't want' something too involved.
This game is amazing Rupert Booth as Jenks and his interactions are just the best!
really nice FMV game played with my wife and we both were hooked. Needs a sequel!
Unreal. Spent all night on this with my friends. Great acting 10/10
Very well made. In my opinion one of the best FMVs I've played so far.
Great game, greater acting. Best enjoyed with friends.
