I enjoyed the game and will be looking forward to a sequel to the game. I loved it so much I beat the game to quickly lol. I hope the next one will take the same game make more maps and add new furnishings. I highly recommend the game to anyone looking for something chill and fun to play.
The game used to have its charm until an update in 2024 that introduced employee retirement: after a certain while the employee you've leveled and trained are just simply gone.
A fun concept with frustrating execution and lack of depth. The only reason i have so many hours is because i wanted to get all the achievements and i am stubborn.
What i liked:
- The geometric 3D look of the shops reminded me of The Sims 1. Very nostalgic and nice!
- Customizable drinks and you can give them silly names like "Crystal Meth"
- Customizable bean bags; lots of options to make some pretty cool designs!
- I liked the personalized end credits and how it was implemented
- Once you upgrade your workers they can do some tasks automatically which is nice 'cause you can focus on other aspects of the game (though this is only beneficial at certain points)
What i didn't like:
- The biggest challenge is the game's UI
- The only difference between the "types" of customers are what drinks they prefer. It would be more engaging if they had different needs, like businessmen working on their laptop and need electric outlets, casuals want to read magazines, students need a place to study etc.
- The game eventually becomes an idle game as everything can be automated, which is lame
- Once the idling is over you constantly have to manage your marketing campaigns (which somehow aren't automatic) and then later on the roasting...
- Ah, the roasting... INCREDIBLY tedious, even though you can "auto-roast" once you have a high enough skilled employee
- Late game feels more like "Coffee Roast Tycoon" than "Coffee Shop Tycoon"
- It took an online guide to figure out EXACTLY what the game expected of me when it came to the roasting "mini game", and once i figured it out it was boring
- Once you have a 500~ point roaster employee they can drag you through most of the roasting challenges, but this is STILL incredibly tedious and gave me carpel tunnel. Not well designed, nor integrated...
- Each level introduces new features (e.g. research) that aren't reused in subsequent levels, which feels odd
- Pre-made drinks have different cup shapes, but custom drinks can only use one type of cup
- Syrups and pastries are underutilized; they just kind of exist. It would be great to create custom syrups and pastries
- There are some random events in the game, but they don't really affect anything and don't matter (they could help or work against you in early game, but once you open the second shop it doesn't matter anymore)
- You unlock furniture as you go. The first few tables and chairs you can customize with a lot of different color palettes. Everything that you unlock later on is a set color or only has 1 color variant
- There are no cute sitting nooks, benches, or couches
Overall, the game had many ideas that were poorly implemented, making it feel shallow (as another reviewer also commented). It's a shame because i did feel it had potential.
I want to like this game. It has some fun mechanics and there are portions of the game that have progression that feels good, but I've hit the 4hr mark and the last two hours have been forcing myself to see if something good is coming. The UI is buggy and limited, a lot of the progression is really shallow, and though it does a commendable job at trying to include some of the more overlooked aspects of running a shop, the management aspects are so clunky and crude that you end up trading one micromanagement for another when the promise is to allow the player to delegate. If there were substantial improvements or the price were a bit lower, I'd say it's worth a few hours, but at the moment I've been forcing myself to find a reason to keep playing.
Finished this game in 3 days. It is a great game!

The concept is great but the execution is not. The UI is confusing and there is a weird level of Micromanagement. Its just not a game for me.
Simple cafe simulator with surprisingly well done mechanics of roasting coffee and making new drinks. Easy management and other features. Great job with including specialty coffee as the main coffee stream. Would love if developers would go even further in Coffee Shop Tycoon II. *wink wink* :D
it is hard.you have to earn money. it can get not fun too
I bought this game initially because it was inexpensive, and I love coffee, making coffee, coffee shops and business sims. But, when I first played it, it seemed super-simple and incredibly boring, so I stopped playing after only 2 hours. Fast forward many months, and I decided to give it another spin.
Wow! I didn’t realize that the game progresses in stages, and you unlock more and more content as the game goes on. It’s too bad this is not made obvious when you start the game because I think it would make a real difference on how you approach the game. It’s set up like Planet Coaster and Planet Zoo wherein you have a globe with places you can unlock as you progress in the game. You can then obtain goals to get more and more stars and eventually get the “Bronze Bean” level, progress to Silver, Gold, and finally Diamond.
At each level, your customers get more and more demanding (picky) on what they think is good coffee. This means that you must increase the level of your employees (Service, Speed, Barista, Roaster) to provide better and faster service and to (eventually) roast your own coffee to get higher rated specialty coffee.
The beginning can seem tedious because you (the owner) must order all the supplies and make sure to brew coffee so it doesn't run out, but this task is soon eliminated once your employees get to Level 4 (I believe) when they can be assigned to do these tasks for you . . . which is a GREAT simulation of a new business cycle: owner is HIGHLY involved at first but eventually turns over much of the day-to-day to managers, etc. Soon, your coffee shops are running themselves, and you need only concentrate on the “fun” stuff.
The heart of the game is creating new drinks for your customers to try and creating new coffee roasts. You can create espresso based, hot, iced, frappe, most anything you want. Add whipped cream, foam, sprinkles, syrups, flowers, even gold foil! Name it, and have it taste tested! Three groups you need to impress: Teens, Casuals, and Experts (coffee snobs). This is a great fun part of the game.
Coffee roasting is SUPER interesting (in my opinion). It’s a game in itself and provided several hours of intrigue for me to get that perfect roast! You achieve simple roasting challenges to gain points to unlock better quality beans from different parts of the world. The challenges get progressively more difficult (but never too difficult) allowing you to unlock even more content. Eventually, your coffee roaster employees will progress enough (you can send all employees to training) that they can roast coffee for you (if you are not always fond of doing this).
I beat the game in 17 hours, and it was a lot of fun. Design your own coffee shop: check. Create your own drinks: check. Roast your own coffee: check. Take over your competition: check. Fly to the moon and open a coffee shop: check! Give the game a try and stick with it. You’ll enjoy it.
