years after Hals downfall
less on economics but a redemption on Hal character and setting up the chessboard for the finale
another banger in the trilogy and the final fight is upon Hal
its nice
I'm not a freak, I just left it open while I was working and read through it on breaks. It's a visual novel, and I liked the story. If you liked Spice and Wolf (same author) you may like this too. The art is nice and music is calming.
Nice series of VN with very basic introduction on some economy concepts. However, you MUST enjoy economics for it to be fun as well as play the whole series :)
It's not an economic playbook, but this novel was well-researched and presented in a soft glow of youthful passion. But, if you start with this one, you'll find a depressed young man in his 20, still reeling and dejected from his massive failure in episode.01. The character matures and progresses with the story, and the pace is rather slow. The author was careful in shaping the story, considering the others around the main character as important characters. There aren't many description about the landscape inside the dome, but I think it's similar to New York? or maybe Manhattan, don't know for certain.
Each series isn't that long, so I'm planning on finishing the series to get a full-length visual novel. So far, it's pleasing.
An excellent follow-up to the first episode. Production value seems higher overall, with (to my eyes and ears) improved art and music. The writing is stellar, as one would expect from the author in question. Localization is strong too, but for a somewhat higher volume of typos and other errors than the first episode.
This is a very interesting VN about economic of the modern day involve stock trading and others dramatic aspect such as meaning of humanity and profit what more important. In general it's very enjoyable i will give it 8/10 the problem that i would not give it 10/10 is
- Why you have to do the setting in the moon, sure it all look hightech and all but the author doesn't grasp all the Hightech thing that it should be at all, like using of orbital elevator, it's one of the impossible thing to make in real science there other better way to travel to the moon. Also main economic point is about stock trading which not a new financial product at all compare to many product that come out recently. They can use setting of a current country such as Hongkok , New York , and many other it will make more sense.
- The fact that main protagonist in love with black hair girls is unknown to me. I mean why on earth he love her that much, feel like it unreal.
However for others point such as economic and stock the author is very dedicate to find information. i can imagine that it will be very hard to do and over all story is addicted.
So over all it a very good story. it will suit for those who like a story-rich VN with a little conspiracy with no blood and gore.
I was a huge fan of Spice and Wolf so when I found out they had another beautifully crafted world to sink my teeth into I was on board. Instead of the relaxing atmosphere of a traveling merchant, they went with an action-packed story about investments. They exceeded my expectations and I highly recommend it to anyone
The OST stands out to me as being overall more enjoyable than Ep 1, with a lot more mellow, reflective tracks that makes you lose track of time.
I love the way the main character develops, marked by the events of the first episode. Character banter and dialogue seems to have improved, but maybe that's just because of my personal distaste for the main character in episode 1.
Episode 2 provides you with more questions than answers, and mired with moral quandaries that make readers question their own outlook on life. For this reason alone, I would recommend it if you enjoy the author's works.
At least this time, the translation hasn't blatantly mislabeled the speakers for any of the lines in the first couple hours of the game... Is what I wrote when I first reviewed this, but the problem still occurs later on. That said, the merits and flaws of this episode are the same as the previous:
+ It's a kinetic novel with interesting characters and an engaging story, by the author of another well-known light novel series.
- The translation has issues. Not to the level of a mechanical translation, but in a way that makes it clear that nobody involved is a native English speaker. Words are misspelled and poor word choice abounds.
- The translation is not always accurate. Entire sentences are occasionally rendered in nonsensical English, in a way that no native speaker would ever write. The original Japanese text is included, so it's easy to confirm that when something pops up in the translation that doesn't make sense in context. But then, I don't buy translated works with the intent of proofreading them on the fly, and I really doubt anyone else does either.
If you liked the previous installment and tolerated those flaws, you will likely like and tolerate this one just as well. You can probably tell which side of that I fall on, since I'm still here reading and reviewing. If you haven't read the previous installment... go do that first. Or don't. It's not like I especially recommend it more than this part, but the middle of a story is no place to begin.
The second in the trilogy that makes Economic concepts slightly fun, this kinetic novel picks up four years after the first episode.
The story is as engaging as the first, and heads towards a thrilling climax.
Definitely worth a read. Get the bundle as all three are good.
Part 2 of this series skips ahead 4 years after the end of the first game. Despite the passage of time, there remains much unfinished business from then that needs resolving. This, essentially, is what WEE Episode 2 is about: moving ahead and not being stuck in the past. There is also, of course, plenty of economics stuff. Though rather than the high-tensity stock trading that was so much a part of Episode 1, here it is more like a detective story into government bureaucracy, an economic bubble, fraud, and how money can be used to snuff out honest intentions. If this all sounds familiar, you are not alone: it is pretty much the mid 2000's or the 1920's, but in a space age setting. I can't say I enjoyed this as much as Episode 1, but I am still interested in seeing how this wraps up in Episode 3.
I feel really sad for a certain character at the end of this. :(
Edit: Oh, and the new character featured, Eleanor, is pretty awesome. Or at the very least interesting. Certainly a highlight of this episode.
Well that was a fun VN to read.
Pros
- Makes for a great episode 2 for this series.
- Music is enjoyable and relaxing.
- Big emphasis on economics and the stock market.
- Characters are interesting enough to keep the reader interested.
- Great buildup for episode 3.
Cons
- A few written mistakes and word wrapping issues but its no big deal.
[*]Some returning characters have their names changed which might confuse readers from episode 1 a little.
7.8/10
WEE episode 02 is a great follow up to the strong start of this series.
I really enjoyed how the story proceeds and I just love the different characters and their development from Ep 1 to 2.
The mechanics of the game improved alot and every negative I had pointed out in my previous review got resolved and it plays smoothly without interruptions.
For everyone who thinks about playing this story I should recommend to wait for the 3rd EP to come out.
You can play the first part but then you should wait.
This is because it feels like the first episode is a closed story, while the 2nd EP is the first half of a bigger story.
Love has greater value than all the money in the world.
Following what has happened at WORLD END ECONOMiCA episode.01, WORLD END ECONOMiCA episode.02 starts a few years after what has occured at the previous episode, and it starts at a very sad tone that slowly engages in a mature nature unlike the previous episode, which greatly emphasizes to what happened at the Main Character in the first episode.
Again, WORLD END ECONOMiCA is a kinetic Visual Novel made by Isuna Hasekura, which is known for being the author of the renowned Light Novel, Spice & Wolf.
Like the author's previous work, this kinetic Visual Novel has the economical drive within it's repository, joining in the mix of tragedy and love. Isuna Hasekura's previous work, Spice & Wolf, revolves around trading. This time, WORLD END ECONOMiCA, revolves around Stocks and it's Market. I am amazed at how the author succinctly mixes different genres in this Visual Novel, much like Spice & Wolf.
However, one should not compare Isuna Hasekura's Spice & Wolf and WORLD END ECONOMiCA, as the former is a Light Novel and the latter being a Visual Novel. Of course the manner of telling the story is significally different, as a Visual Novel introduces music and accompanying CG to maximize the tone of the current atmosphere and situation but with less words to further balance the narration of story by giving the personality to the CGs and sprites, while the words supply the story itself, unlike a Light Novel where the artworks are introduced at the start of reading, but it just introduces the setting and vibe of the story being told, with the descriptive narrative giving most of a Light Novel's shine. Nonetheless, one should not underestimate Isuna Hasekura, and one should know that the author would definitely give a story that is rich and fantastic.
This time, WORLD END ECONOMiCA episode.02 gives more complex narrative and perfectly syncs the Stock Market into the different aspects of the story. This episode this time makes money seem very powerful, both for good and bad, which is awesome because it deviates from the generic sense that 'money is the root of all evil'.
PROS:
- The setting has been made more broad, which introduces many areas unknown to the first episode
- The characters are mature than ever, which is an upgrade to their past personalities
- New characters blend into the environment and atmosphere of the story
- Character personalities are again, well-developed, and makes them stand out at each other. Especially the Main Character this time. What an improvement
- The Main Character's personality undergoes a drastic change. He is not the selfish and immature character that he was, however at a price (With what happened to him at the first episode, I wouldn't wonder).
- Same soundtrack with that is refurbished and fixed this time, preventing the incorrectly looping that has occured in episode.01
- The CGs are a vast improvement than the first episode
- Length of the second Visual Novel is shorter than the first, but it's more complex and finely written
- Also made by Isuna Hasekura!
CONS:
- This is a sequel. NOT READING THE FIRST VISUAL NOVEL WILL MAKE YOU VERY CONFUSED AND LOST . I suggest reading the first, or wait the third and the last one to be released, THEN reading all of them at the same time.
- The explanation about Stocks this are longer and more confusing . Again, I'd recommend everyone to have a very basic knowledge about Stocks, and reading the first episode, obviously
- The soundtracks are recycled (however looped correctly). This might not be a bad thing, but I'd wish a different soundtrack for the new areas.
- Like the first episode, this Visual Novel does not yet support Steam Overlay, and its current engine does not yet support Achievements and Trading Cards (However, this will be also remedied later on)
- Sadly, there is AGAIN no Holo the Wisewolf
- ANOTHER FUCKING CLIFFHANGER!!! THIS TIME, IT'S MORE SEVERE!
Overall, I would really recommend WORLD END ECONOMiCA episode.02 along with episode.01. Please be reminded that there will be an update that makes it compatible with Steam Overlay, Steam Achievements and Trading Cards, though (Again, I'd advise you to wait for Sekai Project to release all the episodes, because then they would patch them to a different engine.) And this time, episode.02's story is a bit short, but that's based on how fast I read.
Happy Stocking!
Once again, I enjoyed the story and definitely recommend episode 2 as i did episode 1.
But! Honestly, this was a little bit of a disappointment.
The climax at the end didn't feel like much of a climax at all compared to the first episode.
Less economics trading excitement but more depth in relationships and reflection.
Looking forward to episode 3, it can't come fast enough
A great sequel to a good visual novel.
Pros:
-Good soundtrack
-Great art
-Great story
-Improved characters (and interesting new characters)
Cons:
-A number of names are translated differently now
-When you're tired but can't stop reading any infodump regarding abstract concepts will sound like nonsense
-Not enough tsundere
-Some new characters needed to be fleshed out way more
WEE Episode 2 begins 4 years after the ending events of Episode 1. In the time between the main character has changed from the punk with attitude to a respectable young man who has learned his limits, and along with those changes he also learned how little he truly knew about the world back then. There is a clear schism between how this one plays out from the first. While the first episode felt fairly childish and cliched, falling back on common tropes a number of times, this one is focused on telling the more mature story the first one set up. The childish dreams were shattered, and in the place of those dreams the protagonist was forced by the world to mature. Not the arrogant "I'm more mature than you" mature that he was in the first, but legitimate personal growth. Because he was forced into that growth he was still not able to cope with his actions though, and the reader will get to see how that still affects him 4 years after the fact.
In this episode you can expect a few less walls of text attempting to inform the reader about stocks, and in the place of infodumps the reader is treated to a lot more character development and relationship building than the first. This isn't to say the infodumps that (fairly poorly) attempt to teach the reader about different aspects of the stock market don't exist, but rather that aspect of the storytelling has definitely been dialed down for the better.
In place of the explanations readers are instead treated with a continuation of the plot that started developing wonderfully toward the end of Episode 1 regarding all of the corruption going on. There are many victories and defeats for the protagonists along their journey along with a pace that accelerates towards the end leaving you begging for more as the credits roll. Unfortunately (fortunately?) the ending of this one leaves on a great cliffhanger (thankfully not wheelchairs and missing tsundere) that will have you waiting impatiently for the final episode to release.
Improvements all around make this a must try for any fan of visual novels, but this is still WEE so if the first wasn't your fancy this probably won't catch your fancy either.
Overall:
8.5/10
WEE ep.1 give me an arrogant, prideful, brash, smart, ambitious, and talented protagonist. Along the way, he is getting more humbled, but not so much. He met a friend, big sister-like existence, mentor, and a 'family'. He thinks that he need to do something for his new 'family', yet in the way his arrogant and ambitious trait get better over what is important from him. In the end, he lost almost everything. Yes, almost everything. He is humiliated then his pride and raison d'être grounded to dust in the end of the game.
WEE ep.2 give me what happen 4 years later, how much he is changed, his motivation and that he is severely traumatized that his greed destroy numerous' people lives. WEE ep.2 give me what's lacking in ep.1 in cost VN's length, just like other reviews said ep.2 is shorter than ep.1 and it's a little bit disappointing. But I personally think that's worth it, I enjoy ep.2 from beginning to the end.
Should you buy it?
- If you enjoy ep.1 you will surprised ep.2 and buy it right now.
- If you think ep.1 are mediocre and skeptical about ep.2, wait for better deals or try some 'shady free trial' to judge it by yourself how good is ep.2.
[*]If you didn't enjoy ep.1 at all. Well... There's only 2 choices, believe in me and try ep.2 or drop WEE entirely. I won't say anything more, it's your money after all.
Picking up 4 years after the first episode, World End Economica episode 2 takes place during the largest economic boom in history. Multiple cities are under construction, and optimism is on an all time high. But behind the scenes the system is dysfunctional. The protagonist is working at a government office, uninterested in what the market is up to. But circumstances pull him back in the game, and he inevitably ends up investigating what’s really going on behind the scenes.
A curious detail about the story is that it isn’t as futuristic as you might expect. It takes place on the moon, but the economic system appears to be on the same technological level as Earth today. This makes it easier to follow, as everything you learn in economics class it directly applicable to the plot. But as sci-fi it becomes a bit unbelievable that they wouldn’t have advanced to something well beyond this. Clearly a stylistic choice, which will make the story retro-futuristic in 5 years when our world leaves the game behind.
I have a couple issues with game, one of the character relations is a bit too awkward. It felt like the author didn’t quite know what to do in some of the scenes, as the emotions come off flat, like an alien trying to describe human feelings. Thankfully toward the end those problems disappear, and the most important scenes are nailed. But before you get there, you’ll see someone’s eyes described as “beautiful” over five times. It gets a bit weird. On a positive note, everyone’s motives and wants are clearly defined. So even with the weaker parts, on the whole it does a good job at storytelling.
I’ve seen people who feel Batman is outdated as a concept. Crimes today aren’t committed by gangs of goons robbing people on the street. World End Economica shows what modern crime is like. It all happens out of sight, and if you don’t look close enough it’s possible to believe it doesn’t exist. What I like most about it, is how it puts a human face on every party involved, both at the tops and bottoms of society, without losing sight of the main characters. The corporations committing fraud rationalize their actions by blaming the government, while they at the same time lobby to have the rules changed to allow even more corruption. There’s no need to physically hurt anyone to destroy them. Reputation is everything.
The episode is quite long, just like the first one, and it's well paced. Much time is spent painting a holistic image of the world it takes place in. On the way some characters get lost, as they seem to have no role in the story at all. But on the whole I had a great time, only noticing the obvious flaws after it was over. I’m looking forward to seeing how far it goes in the final episode, because here in episode 2 it sets it up for something big.
Decidedly shorter than the first episode, World End Economica episode.02 also fixes many of the faults of the first installment.
There is a larger assortment of CGs, no long 'black screen with text' instances, music looping is seamless instead of awkward and out of place.
I did notice a couple of typos, but aside from that there's nothing I can really add for negatives.
The story feels like a setup for the finale, which isn't terrible to say the least, but it may make the wait for episode.03 slightly difficult. It was a pretty good read, and had a very fluid translation without any awkward phrasing.
A sequel to a wonderful visual novel that, at a glance, appeared to be focused on economics and greed. But there was a humanizing element in episode one, and that humanizing element is made much more prominent in episode two. There are much less long infodumps about various qualities and characteristics of the stock market, and more scenes of interactions between characters who are all human and display strengths and weaknesses.
The main character is now a traumatized 20-year-old, four years after the first episode, who is haunted by the memory of the grave mistake he made at the end of the first episode. He is definitely a lot less selfish and arrogant, but you can tell he still has yet to grow (which is why it is important to keep in mind that this is a trilogy).
All the characters from the first game that reappear here have changed, for me the most notable example being "Cerrow", whose name in the first game was Serrault. He lost his afro. That's a bummer. There is one notable person who's missing who will not be named, who haunts our protagonist throughout the story. The new heroine introduced is a wonderful reversal of the classical princess trope, who shows her own humanity and weakness slowly throughout the novel. That bedroom scene was pretty interesting. If you read this spoiler without reading the novel, it's going to be misconstrued.
There are still some weaknesses. Two new minor characters seemed pretty useless, Marco and Le Goff (Marco in particular; at least Le Goff was spotlighted as a prim and proper butler to Eleanor who was helpless to aid her in her quest for justice. Marco was just some pre-teen kid who had a crush on Eleanor. No characterization beyond that whatsoever.) but I'm hoping they'll be expanded upon somewhat in the final episode. There were a few spelling and grammar mistakes sprinkled throughout the novel, but I suppose they were probably itching to get this out and, despite the alpha and beta testing, couldn't get it perfect. I'm sure they'll fix it soon enough.
Otherwise, this is a great example of a visual novel that does not need to guise itself in the form of a "pick the heroine you engage in intercourse with" to attract an audience. While romance is referred to, this is a story about growth and struggle. Of fighting against a machine focused only on keeping itself in power through money, and by keeping that power continuing to earn money. Of selflessness and justice against selfishness and greed.
Solidly recommended.
