Punchy deep sea horror game. Oppressive atmosphere and engaging story with an excellently done twist ending. The "combat" does kinda suck and get annoying, the mid-game stages are easy to get lost in, and if you're committed to getting the achievements, get ready to suffer.
Other than that, it's a good late night horror game you can easily beat in 3 hours.
I was pleasantly surprised by this game. All the while I was waiting for crazy mutant fish to come and chase me but it's way more subtle than that. Great experience and pretty well made. 7/10
This is one of my favourite games ever! The pure tension, isolation and horror.. a must-play for those, who like a good story
boring boring boring
Horror walking simulator, ya. But the story is awesome. Personal logs is beatiful. The ending is splendid.
And so ...Keep breathing. Find others. And get the hell out.
I do not like this game and can't really ever like it because how much I Truly LOVE this game. I grew up wanting to possibly one day become an engineer for deep sea facility where everything around a person could be an instant death. especially back in the good old high school days when they 1st released the movies "DEEP-STAR SIX" "LEVIATHAN" and "ABYSS" three of my favorite movies well until the newer "MEG' and a few newer movies like those. What gives this game a good thrill ride was fact of being alone on sea floor looking for any survivors while managing resources keeping you alive like O2 & Flairs plus other details keeping you from becoming a resident of Davy Jones Locker. If ya want to know about the actual condition divers can face which this game is named for and a lot of the elements come close to what experiencing Narcosis is like, and some are kind of a little over exaggerated to give game more depth of story instead of just running around trying to get back to the surface. I only said that about looking up definition of the games name because it might make the game a little more interesting and enjoyable with understanding what its based around.
2.4 hours to beat which is what I wanted from a short suspense game. During the run, I was noticing a lower budget feeling to the game but the pacing was engaging enough to keep going. By the time I was in the last area I was fully engaged (happened earlier but I didn't notice). The very last moment caught me off guard and I was busy holding back tears for the entire credits sequence. If you pick this one up, I seriously recommend playing it through to the end which is not a huge commitment.
Reminds me of older titles in the best way possible, something about it gives me nostalgia.
Would Highly recommend checking out!
Played through this in VR and was disappointed in how it functions. Just the headset on with no hand motion whatsoever, so I played with a Playstation controller. Granted it's on me for not looking into how VR was implemented in the first place but it's still part of the experience I had.
The game looks nice with the underwater setting being the thing that appealed to me when looking for a VR horror experience. That being said the horror wasn't all that bad. Not scary to me but I liked what they were doing for it and some sections were purely just pretty damn cool.
Gameplay overall was weak, wasn't a huge fan of it. A lot of walking around with little going on most of the time. The combat was especially weak, very basic, a little awkard and thankfully there wasn't much of it to do and could even be avoided so it wasn't a huge problem.
The story was fine, the way it was presented was neat and by the end I was relatively satisfied with how it wrapped up. Not much else to say about it without going into spoilers.
It's hard to say if I liked this game or not. I was mostly bored, the combat sucked but I did like the visuals and the story. Maybe the poor implementation of VR soured my experience and I would have potentially enjoyed this more had I gone in without trying it.
I guess it was decent enough that I can recommend it on a sale.
wow this was definitely one of the best games I have ever played I would highly recommend this game
I don't know even where to start or to end.
I don't know what honestly to say.
Just this is a game that needs to be played and see the shocking event that occurs.
How you struggle to survive only to be hit with a reality that most games don't think to do.
Just play and try for yourselves. It's unique.
Fun game to play on Quest 3. Food story. Few things to note to play on quest 3. 1) on a newer pc, if the game does not start, you will need to implement the environmental variables solution. There are several references to it on the internet. That solution also fixed the issue I had with the Brookhaven experiment game. Also, you need to sit down with the vr headset on at your computer and move, shoot flares or wave the knife by your keyboard and mouse, unless you have a game pad, I didn’t. When the game initially starts after you click on it on steam vr, press ‘R’ on the keyboard to start. The quest controllers will no longer work once you launch the game.
Wow. I didn't expect this plot twist at the end and I already knew there would be one. So that's a plus. What I didn't find so good were the knife fights. You have to defend yourself with your knife against the deep sea fauna and with every knife attack there's a time delay because you're underwater and wearing a diving suit. It's realistic, but you have to time your attacks perfectly or you'll get hit. And I was almost always hit. Several times. I found that annoying. Fortunately, you can often avoid such fights.
Otherwise, it's a game with strengths and weaknesses. Basically, it's a deep sea walking simulator with survival and horror elements. It has a great atmosphere which takes on a whole new dimension with a VR headset. Technically, it worked well for me and I thought the horror was well done. However, it only has a short playtime of maybe 5 hours and the graphics are rather VR standard. I have a VR headset, but I played it without it.
I can recommend it at a discounted price.
Narcosis while diving is a reversible alteration in consciousness that occurs while diving at depth. It is caused by the anesthetic effect of certain gases at high partial pressure. Narcosis produces a state similar to drunkenness (alcohol intoxication), or nitrous oxide inhalation.
The most dangerous aspects of narcosis are the impairment of judgement, multi-tasking and coordination, and the loss of decision-making ability and focus. Other effects include vertigo and visual or auditory disturbances.

Narcosis is such a great game! It manages to explore an actual real-world condition, but with it's own story and horror. Those with thalassophobia, beware!
While visuals won't knock your socks off (this review is being written in 2024), they get the point across very well and they are full or atmosphere and feeling. This atmosphere is more important than having the best possible graphical fidelity, in my opinion.
Audio is where this game is an absolute standout; not only are the voice-overs AAA level, the ambient audio is incredibly immersive. With the sound alone, you often feel like you are fighting against strong underwater currents (realistic!).
Audio doesn't stop there; the soundtrack is nothing less than absolute "ominous" goodness!
Story-wise, Narcosis is very original. Instead of turning to science-fiction, the game relies on a more realistic approach, with some artistic liberties. Deep sea work in Narcosis is more akin to how we like to imagine space. The real deep sea can be "bland" to just look at, but they 'fix' that by giving us caverns, fauna, jump-scares, squids, and lots of extremely claustrophobic areas we must venture in.
The only parts of Narcosis I enjoyed a little less, are the platforming elements. Not my favourite, but they are not too annoying or overdone. It's only in a few places.
To me, Narcosis makes a special trio with games like SOMA and Subnautica.
Subnautica is a light-hearted underwater survival game, but that blends horror through it's underwater theme.
Soma is a pure classic science-fiction title, with a heavy dose of horror and the best story-telling ever told in video game format.
Narcosis approaches the underwater theme with a sense of documentary-realism, while maintaining a high level of horror elements.
In conclusion, Narcosis is an incredible experience and story; an easy 9/10 !
This is one of the best games if you are a fan of the underwater theme. Especially with a horror-like tone.
Enjoy!

Summary
This games premise is neat, the setting is neat, the twist is neat. But by god it cannot hold my interest. The pacing felt terribly slow and the story felt a little predictable. Worst of all maybe is the complete lack of intrigue or sticking power this game has. It rides really hard on its atmosphere, which I do admit, was pretty dang good. But the gameplay experience isn't helping the atmosphere any and makes the game just feel like a sluggish truck through a railroad with little meaningful inputs.
Slow moving railroad full of annoying interactions and lack of spell check. The idea that someone in a heavy dive suit (or virtually any human without one) could not utterly annihilate a cuttlefish or spider crab with basically zero effort is laughable (Eldritch horror, hallucinations or whatever). Yawn city here.
Most claustrophobic game ive played.
Towards the end of it, you forget that the footsteps you hear all the time are actually yours, but youre too scared to look behind you.
great little game! Sounddesign and story development work hand in hand right up until the actual ending.
the ending alone is worth the horrendous jumping puzzle type part that came in the 3rd 4th of the game. shambolic!
but i can reccomend it!!
it just works
