I've lost track of the metrics by which Romance of the Three Kingdoms games are rated, but to me, this entry, along with X, is one of the best in the series. While X was well-received, XIII has received mixed reviews, which honestly surprises me. I highly recommend it for fans of strategy and historical simulation.
The gameplay here is deeply engaging, combining the strategic depth that defines the series with a more personal, character-focused experience. The character creation system, one of the best in the series, allows players to shape their role and interactions in the Three Kingdoms, adding an extra layer of immersion without overshadowing the strategic core of the game.
In my experience, Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIII is the kind of game that truly shines once you dive into it. The mixed reception may stem from its unique blend of mechanics, which might not appeal to everyone, but for those willing to explore, it stands as one of the most rewarding entries in the series. Definitive RoTK role playing experience. Every RoTK has mixed reviews because everyone wants the last, the current and the next RoTK to be like their favorite RoTK and every RoTK player has a different favorite RoTK.
The only good thing about this game is that playing from a POV of an officer is different from the usual ruler based game.
However this game has a messy interface, lacks of functions, full of useless random encounters, boring duels and debates.
Welcome to Social Networking Romance of the Three Kingdom edition. If you enjoy roleplaying and creating your own story ROK13 is suited for you. However don't expect in-depth battles or even competent AI. The battles at best are meh, the campaign/ruler aspect isn't the worse nor the best. The overall main strength of this game is the roleplaying, officer play and ranking system.
Glad that Koei has brought this fabled literature back from the past and into our modern PCs.
This is a very fun game. In my opinion, is best to purchase the expansions along with the game to achieve maximum experience

Doge Shite . X and XI will always be the best
Great game if you want to feel like a king or do whatever you want, great management system, good real time strategy battle. As an avid rotk enjoyer it is nice to have this kinda game when it feels more like rpg.
Somehow as of now, I think ROTK13 is way better than ROTK 10 & 11, it does not consume a lot of time!
Amazing game, free mode with the expansion is really epic, wont even considering buying next version until is like this one
