One of the best simple-yet-complex RTS games ever, really wish the community picked up on this one
An interesting strategy game.
You need to gain over 75% control of the map in order to win. To do that your Interloper just has to cross the area, all the while capturing strategic objectives and using various units to your advantage against the enemy.
Campaign is designed to introduce you to the mechanics and doesnt pose much of a challenge. After that you can either play skirmish or multiplayer or the various maps. There is no story.
Im pretty sure there is more depth to it, but that can only be realized in a competitive multiplayer environment. But since the multiplayer is dead, all thats left is the skirmish mode. Its fine, it has 13 maps and the AI can be a bit tricky, so there is some gameplay to be had.
Since there is no price tag anymore, there is no barrier to trying it out. But for single player Im not sure its worth the time investment.
5/10
The game itself is decent. Unfortunately, the single player skirmishes after the campaign become boring quickly and the multiplayer scene is dead. If there were more players to play against it would definitely deserve its thumbs up. As it is it barely gets one.

Total Score - 9/10
Note: Nice little thinker game. The single player is really just a tutorial for multi-player. Saddly the muli-player is kinda dead. Since it's free convincing others you know to play it shouldn't be to hard.
Since the game is now free and the download and doesn't take up much space on your hard drive you should just try it. Its a fun game that can keep you entertained for a few hours. The company that made the game closed down when they made the game free, so if you happen to get one of the game breaking bugs that some people in other reviews metion, then unfortunately there won't be any fix for the game. Other than that, the game is really solid, although there is not that much content.
The design of the game is really simple, but it also surprisingly deep. You have access to 4 types of units that have distinct roles and I found it necessary to make all of them in every game. It's not the lazy kind of RTS where every unit does the same thing just with more health and/or damage.
The gameplay is really well thought out and balanced. The goal of the game is to capture 75 percent of the territory on the map, which you do by using your Sentinal unit. The sentinal can capture territory and structures by moving over it, but it cannot attack or move through enemy units (or be killed/damaged). This means you have to use other units to attack enemy units and clear pathways, as well as block the enemy sentinal from moving through territory, at least until they send units to attack yours.
The multiplayer seems to have been shut down and does not work anymore unfortuately, so the only content left is the campaign and skirmish missions. The expert difficulty ai, which is the highest level ai in skirmish mode, is a decent challenge and can easily exploit your mistakes. You have to manipulate the ai into do something stupid if you want to beat the expert ai, especially if you give yourself one of the handicaps. One tip i can give is if you get the AI stuck in a game of chicken, where both sentinals are right next to each other and waiting for the other to move, use that time to gain an advantage. Play passively at that point to avoid provoking it into moving and get units like snipers that you can use to cause attrition to the AI's units. You can go back on the offensive once you've built up units and created a winning position.
After watching the trailer, I immediately realized that this is a very interesting and concrete project. Without thinking twice, I bought and rejoiced, because it weighs only 300 mb.
I downloaded, I was happy again, I began to receive training. But later, realizing that this is the whole beauty of the game, I was stuck and continued to master the complex management (well, that there are hotkeys). The first thing I would like to say is that this is a very long and detailed training in many stages and battles with the computer. Each explanation is accompanied by a mini-game where you dictate to study new techniques and new "objects", which in the future you will fight. These "objects" you have to create with the help of the barracks, which, in turn, feed on special sources of energy. There are several types of "items": some - ordinary pawns, other guards, third strong fighters, and the rest - excellent snipers. Even in the game there is an object that allows heroes only in one direction, which makes the battle even worse.
After several such explanations, you get into the game using a computer, where you need, with the help of the aforementioned "assistants", to grab the necessary number of fields. Over time, things get complicated. Of course, you can follow exactly the same way as your opponent, but that will not be enough to win. You will need to create a brain opening tactic (or simply) with which you will win.
Plus enough in this game. The first plus is the idea itself, the second is unconditionally graphic, because it relaxes, and the third plus is the soundtrack, the fourth and fifth are gameplay and entertainment with friends, because the battles in this game, especially with a friend, are quite spectacular.
But in this game there are minuses. For an inexperienced player, there are "protracted" situations when playing with bots. That is, the effect of the slogan "our rounds lasts no more than 5 minutes" in such situations collapses due to the fact that you can get into a tactical or strategic stupor. The game is very well balanced, you can not crush the enemy by the farm, you will be saved only by competent tactics, which at some moments can reduce the dynamics, causing the player to "slow down" the action and think about the next move in the game, and thus the round can drag on 10-15 minutes. It all depends on the ingenuity of the player. But experience in the game as a result can deny this flaw.
Some of them may call the controversial setting of the game - a kind of fantastic "underwater" or "bioworld" is at first a little scary, as long as the player gets used to the mechanics of the game.
Interloper - a good network puzzle with unusual gameplay, suitable for the break.
With all this, the game dragged me over 51 hours. But for those who just want to spend time pleasantly, I advise you to immediately copy several packages to yourself and friends. Due to the fact that I can not immediately find a network fight 9.5/10.
Interloper is a unique, beautiful and fast-paced RTS game in which you control a tribe of alien fish with the goal of capturing more territory than a rival tribe of alien fish. Your main character is a Sentinel, which is immortal and can capture territory or go invisible and intangible. Each map contains certain structures that can be captured. Assemblers produce Drones, provided they are connected to a Power Source. Drones are quick little creatures that can block the path of Sentinels and can attack other Drones. There are also Foundries, which also require a Power Source and can convert Drones into Specialist Units such as Defenders (cost 2 Drones but have 3 HP), Snipers (cost 3 Drones, and have 1 HP, but can shoot enemies at a distance), and Destroyers (cost 4 Drones and have two arms that can be used either to attack or defend, but recharge over time). And that’s about it. The player who captures 75% of the territory wins.
This is one of those games that has the perfect balance between simple rules and depth of gameplay. You do not need to memorize the stats and abilities of dozens of different units, know the full implications of different technologies, or spend hundreds of hours playing or watching game mechanics videos to understand the subtle intricacies of the game. You can learn everything there is to know about the game in 1-2 hours, then test your skills against either the AI or other players online. Interloper is a game of quick thinking, reflexes and strategy in which skill beats dedication and no strategy will always win. (You may form a strategy which will usually win if you always play against different players, but once someone learns your strategy, they can come up with one to beat it.)
Features:
- Unique, beautiful, and somewhat surreal atmosphere.
- Single Player Tutorial/Campaign that walks you through the basics.
- 13 skirmish maps where you can play against AI or other players.
- Public Online Multiplayer matches with a ranked leaderboard.
- Private Online Multiplayer matches in which you can challenge your friends.
- 4 difficulty levels of AI and 4 behavior types, as well as 7 handicaps for an additional challenge.
- Replays of all your matches are automatically saved, and you can optionally upload them so that everyone can see them.
- Option to play skirmishes against the AI or watch replays while in the public multiplayer waiting queue.
I'm going to be straightforward; I love this little game. Fast-paced, very easy to learn, and quite difficult to master.
I only have two main complaints:
- Not enough people on Multiplayer
Multiplayer is a lot more fun than A.I., once you've managed to completely squash the four different expert A.I.'s, but there's simply not enough people on to play on multiplayer all the time. But once more people see the game and enjoy it, more people will be playing and it's an upward spiral from there.
- Maps
Don't get me wrong, the maps are well-balanced and perfect for match-ups, but there's only 13 of them. If there were some element to allow us to make maps, or for the developers to simply make more maps, that would leave me very satisfied. Since there are very simple components in the game, having a map-maker seems like a challenge that can be (relatively) easily accomplished.
All in all, I highly recommend this game. As an RTS player looking for a more simplistic strategy game, Interloper has done the job quite well.
Maybe one of the best and fastest RTS games ever.
You can build so nice strategies, that can keep a match long (10min) or short (3min-5min).
In the Sale it was worrth every fu**ing euro!
The only Problem is: WE NEED MORE PLAYERS!
The Online-Mode is dead at the moment, so pls, if you like RTS, fast-paced games, BUY THIS!
It's worth it!
This game looks and plays great:
-Great staff will try to help you
-Nice community
-Basically everything you would want in a game
The game origionally did not work for me, but the devs helped me work through it and made the game work.
This game is amazing, it's basically a mix of chess and an RTS.
I finished the campaign and played every map in skirmish in little over 2 hours, but beware.. NO AI can prepare you for the mindgames in multiplayer.
I've only played 3 multiplayer games so far and they're pretty brutal. (same goes for the expert AI)
If you make a mistake you WILL pay for it.
#1 advice for this game: JUST DON'T MAKE A MISTAKE!
Tentative thumbs up for this game. Lovely graphics, easy to interpret layout, and rules you can pick up inside of 5 minutes. Really the most minimal and simplistic a RTS game can get and still be entertaining. Very short rounds, clean graphics, and intuituive interface, all making for a fast paced strategic game.
... Unless you have the misfortune to end up in a stalemate reneacting the Cold War with your arms buildup and end up in a round that lasts for 40 minutes. Which I did. It pays to not think like an AI in this game, it seems -- Hence the Tentative Approval.
Definitely get it if: You need a time-filling fast paced game that you can quit without feeling bad; you have a "use it, abuse it, lose it" philosophy to your gaming habits; you have a friend to play against in multiplayer.
Don't bother if: You are a conservative strategist like yours truly and need time to figure out your next move; You aren't much into strategy games to begin with; You prefer in depth strategies to fast paced casual ones.
To tell you guys the truth, I wasn't expect any good from this game in the frist place. In fact, I added Interloper to my wishlist and removed it soon, just because I thought "nah, this game doesn't looks like promising enough. I've got enough games refunded already so I'm not gonna take another wlid shot".
And of course I'm terribly wrong.
So where do I start with? This game is indeed a fast-paced strategy game, it is fast enough to complete a round within 5 minutes. It is kinda casual-ish, It won't take long to finish a round, nor have yourself an epic bloody battle for a couple hours. It does has simple controls, but the strategy is still required. You will need to make a plan, fast, like figure out what you're gonna do for this whole round in half a minute right after the start of the game, otherwise, you might lose, and the reason is you got blocked in a corner, and by the time you phased out, your opponent had took over all your territory already.
And keep that in mind, I'm not good at RTS, but still I'm having fun in this game. I highly recommend this game, there's a sale anyway so go try it yourself, and hopely have some fun.
Really cool game but nobody playing multiplayer. If you can play local or are happy vs AI then this game is very entertaining. If you want to go toe to toe with strangers on the internet look elsewhere.
Quick early review:
Only played 3 matches, but this is a FUUUUN game. It requires tactics and is pretty fast-paced. Lots of micromanagement keeps you on your toes.
More people should buy this game...especially at this price.
As a RTS it's fun and entertaining...pretty much perfect and what I expected. 9/10...deducting a point because the menu on OSX requires a workaround to function. That should really get fixed!
Absolutely incredible. I'm blown away by the depth this game's simple mechanics provide. An absolutely beautiful RTS game that will appeal to anyone, absolutely anyone. A perfect blend of strategy and tactical gameplay which is fun and engaging from start to finish of every single match. Each and every unit and mechanic is precious and can create such value for you if used correctly. 10/10 would recommend to anyone. I haven't played anything like this before...Such an affordable game for the experience it provides. WOW.
Fun little 2D "zone capture" that's, as the description states, "easy to learn, difficult to master". Downside: not well known so the multiplayer is not very populated.
Infuriating for some, challenging for others. I fall in the challenged camp. Great idea for a game, lots to make you think about and it's different every time, which is always a good thing. This'll be on my favourite list for a while.
This game is great, Its a polished game, but I'd like to see a few new features. They are actively working on the game though, so I'm hopeful. Team play would be a huge bonus to the game and would add more complex strategies, but the overall feel is great.
Basically, you play as a big sperm, move around to weird sperm bases, capture said sperm bases, make tiny sperm to defend your current sperm, then you can make robotics and lasers out of the tiny sperms to kill the other person's tiny sperm.
The game is an incredible fast paced RTS that is like a mini mixture of the strategy of a simplified Civ 5, the art and music of an outstanding indie title, and the speed of a checkers match. The blend of simultaneous play between players conjoined with battle tactics that are so simple, yet so hard to employ makes this game a unique star in the RTS genre.
So I'd say buy it, maybe on sale (you should really buy all things on sale), get one for your pal and get flustered when he punches your sperm with a robot made of other sperms.
Haven't had time to play interloper much since the release, but i could recommend this game to anyone. In particular to gamers who love strategy games but, as myself, don't usually have the time to play 30-60 minutes at once.
Interloper has everything a good RTS needs (special units, different structures to capture/use etc).
It's really easy to get into, but hard to master! (yeah, that's sort of what the trailer says, and it's true)
Besides that, it runs smooth and has a good feel to it. Love the art-style and music too!
