Although this games does have its own twist to the world of fairy tales and a nice cartoonish art style, Big Brain Wolf though does make it hard to try to figure out where all the puzzles are hidden, where you need to click to find where you need to go next, and the character moves at a slow lazy paced. I want to give this game some love but the art alone won't be enough and you're better off playing Professor Layton if you want good challenging puzzles, interesting plot, and a character that doesn't move slow.
I finally got around to playing this game and I can't recommend it.
It hasn't aged well. The controls are finicky, the puzzles easy and repetitive. The humor is doesn't quite hit the mark. The hardest part was trying to figure out what I was suppose to click on next.
Most of the gameplay is waiting for the wolf to walk across the screen to the next puzzle.
> be me
> decide to play "Big Brain Wolf" because I like point-and-click adventure games and my brain needs a workout
> find out I'm playing as an asthmatic vegetarian wolf studying to become a genie
> okay, that's a new twist
> right from the start, the art style hits me
> it's like Shrek and Hoodwinked had a baby, but it's not as polished
> still, there's a lot of charm, and the quirky atmosphere pulls you in
> start the game, and I'm accused of a crime I didn't commit
> classic, right? A wolf gets blamed for everything
> the game has that whole fairy tale satire vibe, like someone threw all the classic stories into an episode of Law & Order
> Snow White runs a bar, and Dopey is a bouncer
> not exactly the Disney version, but it's fun
> the puzzles are no joke either
> some are like "spot the differences," but then others are like "decode the ancient manuscript"
> and then there's Goldilocks, who has some serious issues
> she's always lurking, poking around like she's trying to find the perfect chair, bed, or porridge
> classic Goldie, always causing trouble
> but the story keeps you hooked, the atmosphere is light but engaging, and the puzzles really test your brain
> the jazz quartet playing in the background is a nice touch
> it's got that nostalgic feel for me because it was one of my first Steam games
> brings me back to my early days of PC gaming, when everything felt new and exciting
> you know, before I had a backlog of well over 2000 games (Gaming addiction, deeper than the Mariana Trench Steam sales discounts and extremely cheap bundles on certain websites goes BRRRRRRR)
> 10/10, would play again for the nostalgia and the wacky fairy tale characters
> just be ready for some brain-bending puzzles and the occasional chess match with a chicken
> oh, and watch out for Goldilocks—she's got a way of sneaking into places where she shouldn't be
> if you like a bit of humor with your puzzles and some nostalgia with your Steam collection, give it a try
> it's not Shrek or Hoodwinked, but it's got enough charm to make it worth your while
> and who doesn't want to play as a vegetarian wolf in a genie outfit?
[The Scene: A quirky talk show stage with a large sign overhead reading "Wolf Pack Interviews." The host, Bigby Wolf, sits at a large desk, while the other wolf characters are seated in a row of comfy chairs to the side. Professor Wolf from "Big Brain Wolf" enters, dressed in genie attire, and joins the others.]
Bigby Wolf: Welcome to "Wolf Pack Interviews"! We've got a fantastic lineup today, including Professor Wolf from "Big Brain Wolf," and Amaterasu from "Okami." Thanks for joining us, everyone!
Professor Wolf: Hey, Bigby. Glad to be here. I brought some tofu bacon if anyone’s hungry.
Amaterasu: Howls happily and creates an ethereal painting in the air, forming the words "Yum!"
Wolf O'Donnell: So, you eat tofu bacon? How does that even work? I thought wolves were all about the real deal.
Professor Wolf: Well, when you're trying to study to become a genie and clear your name from a crime you didn't commit, sometimes you gotta keep it light. Besides, have you seen what bacon does to your arteries?
Wile E. Coyote: Raises an eyebrow, with a stack of Acme products at his feet Tofu bacon sounds interesting, but I'm more into bird-catching tech. Ever tried catching a chicken playing chess? Asking for a friend.
Professor Wolf: Chess with chickens is fun. But don't bet on them—they tend to, uh, chicken out at the last minute.
Geralt of Rivia: I heard about that chicken. They say it's into gambling. If you need a Witcher to handle that, let me know.
Wolf Link: Barks softly in wolf form, as if asking Amaterasu for painting tips.
Amaterasu: Draws a beautiful spiral in the air with her tail, illustrating patience and skill.
Remus Lupin: Professor, how do you deal with all those puzzles without turning into a werewolf from the stress?
Professor Wolf: It's all about the brain exercises. Plus, I get hints from neuroscientists, so I'm good. But trust me, sometimes I do feel like I could use a full moon to unwind.
Bigby Wolf: Amaterasu, do you find these puzzles too easy? I mean, you literally create celestial brushstrokes to change the world.
Amaterasu: Paints a serene landscape with mountains and trees. It seems she's saying she's into simpler things.
Bigby Wolf: Ah, I get it. Sometimes, less is more. Good to know. Thanks for joining us, Amaterasu. And you, Professor Wolf. Watch out for Goldilocks—she’s been sneaking around again.
Professor Wolf: Thanks for having me. And yeah, I'll keep an eye out. Goldilocks is always looking for something that's "just right." Sometimes I think she should join the genie school.
Bigby Wolf: Alright, folks. Thanks for tuning in to "Wolf Pack Interviews." Remember, if you're gonna challenge a chicken to chess, bring backup. We'll see you next time!
Amaterasu: Paints a beautiful sunset, and everyone applauds.

The Riddle - Nik Kershaw
I got two big brains,
Puzzles and genie school,
Time to break it down, let's try,
Solve clues, connect the chains,
In a fairy tale world
Where you’re never quite sure
Who’s the fool.
Near a house in the woods,
There's a clue on the ground,
Where a Big Brain Wolf
Goes around and around.
And his mind is a beacon
In the fog of the night.
It’s a strange kind of puzzle,
It's a twist or a right,
But he’ll never, never give up on you.
I got plans to solve,
Riddles in the scullery,
Days of strange comedy.
You'll meet a chicken playing chess,
Yeah, it's weird but it's fun,
Gotta love the game's energy.
Wise men talking to you.
It's not easy, see,
These puzzles and enigmas,
But the jazz makes it sweet,
Chilling with fairy tale people
In a land that's quite unique.
Mysteries unravel
As the hints slowly leak.
Near a house in the woods,
There's a clue on the ground,
Where a Big Brain Wolf
Goes around and around.
And his mind is a beacon
In the misty late night.
For a quirky kind of puzzle,
It's a fight or a flight,
But he’ll never, never give up on you.
I got time to solve,
Meet strange characters,
Without a sense of fear.
A wolf in genie clothes,
Playing with fairy tale folk,
It’s a world of laughter and mystery.
So much more than it appears.
Near a house in the woods,
There's a clue on the ground,
Where a Big Brain Wolf
Goes around and around.
And his mind is a beacon
In the moonlit late night.
For a quirky kind of story,
There's a wrong and a right,
But he’ll never, never give up on you.
No, he’ll never, never give up on you.
No, he’ll never, never give up on you.
I'm a furry fellow 🐺 with a brain that's keen 🧠,
An asthmatic vegetarian, you know what I mean 🌱.
Though I'm a wolf, I avoid meat 🍗,
But puzzles and riddles? That's my favorite treat 🧩.
I'm training to be something quite rare ✨,
A genie, if you must know, but it's a lot to bear 🧞.
I meet fairy tale folks with quite a twist 🔄,
And play chess with a chicken—bet you get the gist 🐓.
From solving mysteries to genie school 📚,
I navigate through scenes that are puzzle-fueled 🔍.
If you need some brainy fun, I'm your guy 🎉,
Who am I? Well, that's for you to find out—go on, give it a try 🤔.
Not an adventure game. Awful puzzle game. Tedious and mediocre puzzles that repeat themselves, just longer versions. Used a guide for most of it, which is pretty unusual. I didn't really "beat" the game, but I just don't care. It's done and I can never think about it again. Don't buy this game.
I was looking for another Professor Layton style game, however this one has only 60 puzzles a forgettable story and no easy way to go back to puzzles you may have missed.
Some of the puzzles are also hampered by the controls which should be precise using a mouse and keyboard.
It does have a Brain training style mode, but there are only 6 and the only reward for doing them is an achievement (which seems bugged), and hints for the main puzzles.
So if you are looking for an interesting puzzle game, I would suggest looking elsewhere first
Big Brain Wolf combines the story with the puzzle-solving aspects where in order to proceed with the story, you need to unravel some 60 puzzles of varying difficulty in five chapters. In the story, the protagonist is a asthmatic, vegetarian wolf who is a novitiate genie in training who has set on the path of solving puzzles to prove his mother's innocence. The number and treatment of fairy tale characters is reminiscent of movies like Shrek or Hoodwinked. It includes Pinocchio and Geppetto, Little Red Riding Hood, the Three Little Pigs, Prince Charming, and of course the Big Bad Wolf. But in a nutshell, you will end up skipping the boring dialogue conversations, so the story part didn't really fall into my liking. As for the main crux, that is puzzles, they are not that relaxing even for the puzzle fanatics, it will leave your mind tickle. Their are brain exercises and some seemingly impossible to solve puzzles and no wonder , the game is created with the active participation of NeuroActive Program and Telefilm canada. So, if you are looking for some whopping brain exercise leaving apart the plot and state-of-the-art graphics , it is a must buy. But make sure to have yourself thoroughly equipped with high school mathematics, because if mathematics and numbers and patterns-solving and chess and geometry and crosswords, etc. are not your cup of tea, then you have certainly come to the wrong page. Recommending this game as I am an all time avid puzzle-lover and thinker.
5/10
I hope that wolf learns how to walk fast... Finding puzzles are the real pain here. I had to use a guide to finish the game. Kinda liked the story but it doesn't worth to waste time. Puzzles were too childish at the beginning, but after ch3 they became boring. And if you miss a puzzle you have to play the whole game again, it is insane... I always like puzzle games but this one just was not my favorite.
Big Brain Wolf is what I think is a port of a smartphone game. Before it became the place where creativity dies. Mostly it means that control in some puzzles is insufferable and that aspect ratio is quite wrong: it's supposed to be widescreen but it runs in 4:3, so any circle becomes an oval.
And meh, I am 50/50 on this game. It's kinda good yet bad. Clearly a budget title. Game with lots of usual puzzles in adventure setting. Kinda aimed at children but has adult jokes. Amusing. I also have no idea why the main character is asthmatic aside from urr diversity. Doesn't contribute anything. Graphics and music-wise it feels like they had quite a budget at the beginning but by the end of the game they started to run out of money. Static screens and near-silence.
As for puzzles themselves. Well. They are either easy or too hard. So I have no idea who they were aiming at. The worst offense is that some of puzzles have either rules too vague or just plain wrong. Happened once with "can't cross previous path" one. Hints sucked too. You are supposed to grind one of the six general exercise puzzles, apparently made in association with some big names, but it's just annoying and, as said, hints suck.
So not sure. I guess I shall slap negative on it for unbalanced puzzles with occasional bad controls and occasional bad rules explanation. Otherwise, if you can tolerate that, yea, it's not bad.
I don't reccomend this game for casual players. This game was a chore for me to get through and I had to use a walkthrough near the middle to the end. I thought I would have a nice casual playthrough and be somewhat challenged with different puzzles and brain teasers, but the puzzles are way too vague half the time and it leaves you guessing instead of being challenged. The game has nice writing and characters, but the main core of this game are the puzzles and they were either waaay too hard or waaay too easy.
It has some good concepts in it. The puzzles can be quite fun and some of the dialogue is witty, however, you have to find the puzzles yourself by clicking on random objects. Each object will then trigger some dialogue. Basically, I just find the mechanic of constantly reading or skipping dialogue unenjoyable. I do however, see the appeal of the game, but it just isnt for me. I wish Steam had a better rating system. I'd probably give it a 6/10 as it could be quite enjoyable for many people. I just can't recommend a game where I'm constantly going through dialogue after the tutorial.
TLDR: Good for people with patience to skip through dialogue. Not so fun if you just want to play the game.
Quite a tough puzzle game at times. Similar to the likes of Telltale's Puzzle Agent. I didn't like a few of the puzzles as I thought they were too hard and it seemed that in one or two of them perfectly valid answers failed to be approved so I think that is a serious flaw. Still, I'll give it the thumbs up but quite a few things could've been improved.
Well, the art is nice and the puzzles range from obvious to challenging, but there are some flaws in the actual gameplay. One puzzle wouldn't accept a valid alternate answer, and I kept getting alerts for the same "You beat 50 puzzles!" achievement.
If you're interested in getting it, I'd recommend waiting for a Steam sale, or for the bugs to be patched.
A point and click puzzler which tries hard but could do better. The game play is overly simplified by highlighting the clues in the conversation rather than allowing players to spot them, Many of the mini puzzles have more than one way to complete but the game will only accept one version so, unless you cheat, you may take several attempts trying to find the acceptable answer.
The "Training Day" steam achievement is difficult to achieve whilst also going for the "Genius" achievement as there is a limit on the number of keys you can create and if you are not using hints you cant clear your key chain. If this happens and you are a completist you can just start a new game.
Despite all the above and the poor score I would recommend this game to anyone who has had a stroke or brain injury as well as for young players as there are enough challenges to build/rebuild neural pathways.

A witty point-and-click adventure story with puzzles...although some puzzles are a bit too hard. It's still a funny story nonetheless for teenagers or adults to get into. I just wish they left out the voice acting at the beginning(BECAUSE IT'S TERRIBLE.)
TL;DR: Puzzle game with a story arc.
It's a relatively simple puzzle game where you solve a collection of various puzzles. Some are simple, some are hard, some are devilish.
It has a pretty funny fairytale backstory.
I am not very far in but I am enjoying this simple side scrolling adventure game. The puzzles are interesting and challenging enough to keep me interested without getting frustrated. I am looking forward to continuing through this story about a vegetarian wolf!
This game feels like it came out in the early 90s with children as the intended audience. The game is moderately interesting with run of the mill puzzles. It's not terrible, but there are way better games to spend your money on. I do not recommend.
While this game could have potentially been a fun relaxed puzzle solving game, it utterly and completely fails due to instructions being vague, unclear, and flat out incomplete.
Worse, the interface for several puzzles is simply not thought out in the slightest, so you end up fighting the interface and/or trying to see around it.
It also doesn't help that the graphical display looks to have been built around a 486 with 640x320 resolution.
Don't waste your money on this garbage.
Big Brain Wolf was not very enjoyable to say the least. You play a wolf training to be a genie.. wtf? The game is a point and click adventure with lots of puzzles to solve. Some of them were easy for the most part but others just make you wonder how in the hell would anybody know this shit? The story took me around 5 hours to complete and I do not recall enjoying one minute of it. I recommend avoiding this one.
It's an point and click adventure game mixed with puzzles, but MAN is it flawed. No voice acting, no on-screen prompts telling you what you can and cannot interact with. It looks nice and has decent humor, but I found it not worth the effort of struggling against the poor gameplay.
