Hidden: On the trail of the Ancients

Hidden is an atmospheric first person point n click adventure with focus on story, exploration and interesting puzzles. Mechanics are good. The music is perfect for this game. My only nitpick is that it is too dark and can be difficult to see at times.

i think this game is broken and glitchy mess. when i started to game my computer runs like crazy and it's matter worse, when i closed the game it's exe continue to working. I had to restart my computer to fully close the game's exe. there is also no sound and i couldn't adjust my resolution from settings either. other people in reviews and forum also talks about too many bugs and crashes, game obviously doesn't work properly so i can't recommended to anyone.

Unfortunately, this game had too many bugs and crashed too often. I was not able to play it. It doesn't seem like something many others have experienced, so don't base your decision to play it solely upon my review.

Did you ever play Scratches? That game was good, this game wants to be similarly but fails.

This one is really sore on the eyes. It's also pretty dull, basically consisting of only two parts. The long play times you see is because the game itself is painful and works against you at every turn. There is plenty of pixel hunting packed into here. Red herring items that don't do anything. And for what? Ugly graphics, basic story, and a cliffhanger.

I wanted to like this but I couldn't. Good try, though.

This game unfortunately is quite unappealing. Those into a long storyline and lots of slow bits would probably be okay but I'm just to old to be bothered. The story line and your characters voice are both bland. Nothing in the game grabs you to keep on coming back. Too many meaningless things to click on and a general feeling of detachment.
With a bit more pep could be a good game but just not for me.

The first impression wasn't good. I couldn't even run the game and had to spend some time searching forums and trying stuff to make the game running. If you've experienced similar problems, check the discussions for a thread called "HOW TO run the game on Windows 10".

But when the game actually works, it's pretty good. It's a first person adventure game where you move between predefined locations that are rendered as a 360° photos. The graphics are nice, with a lot of detail and even some decent cutscenes. The best thing about the game is definitely the mysterious story and dense lovecraftian atmosphere. The game can be quite scary at times, even though you're never in real danger.

Puzzles are mostly ok, with reasonable difficulty, not easy but not unbeatable. The main problem is that the game relies too much on pixel hunting. Several objects are so tiny, so barely visible, and well-hidden that it's almost impossible to find them without sweeping every inch with a mouse cursor. In case of one object, I couldn't find it even after checking a walkthrough. Thanks to this, the game is pretty hardcore and I can imagine that less patient players will give up soon after the beginning.

Overall, the game could definitely use some polishing but it's still worth checking out even if just for the dark atmosphere.

Hidden: on the trail of the ancients is the first of a two parts game, the second part, Hidden: the untold, not being out yet.

That being said, Hidden is an old school Pt & Click game, very similar to Darkness Within 1 but without the documents search and combination thing. If you like games like Dark Fall, Darkness within or Barrow Hill, you should also like this game.

You are playing as Thomas Farrell, an anthropologist who is part of a scientific expedition aiming to uncover the remains of an archaic civilization. The game consists of 2 chapters. In the first, after waking up from a nightmare, you start exploring the boarding house where a colleague of your uncle spend his last years, and try to find clues about his research while having nightmarish visions. In the second chapter, you travel to the research site in order to rejoin the expedition team but on your arrival in the woods, there is nobody there; you investigate to figure out what is going on while encountering a nightmarish creature. The game concludes with you heading to the main base camp, where the second game will continue the story.

It is a bit disappointing to only play half of the story, and the game is overpriced as it is, so I would recommend to get it when it's on sale, or you can wait for the second part to get the story as a whole.

Nothing pleases me more than being able to write a review on a game that needs to be flushed down the nearest toilet. For starters, the plot is unengaging, the surroundings have way too many items to click on that turn out to be worthless distractions, and if you're streaming, the scene where you talk to the Russian landlord causes the picture to freeze on your stream, so your viewers get a nice entertaining image of some old guy in a stupid looking hat sitting like a mannequin behind his desk. That ought to keep your viewers glued to the channel!

Oh, and did I mention this game is boring as hell? I've had dentist visits that were more fun than this turd. Don't waste your time on this one folks. It's a stinker.

This is a very good game. Nice graphics and soundtrack also. It's a worthy Cthulhu game. I'd put 8/10. So i totally recommended it.

a very challangeing game fun to play but the stupedist ending of any game I ever played...unless there is a sequal.

Game is broken, second scene crashes everytime, within about 10 minutes. Can't get my money back because the error message kept me from closing the game for over 4 hours. DO NOT BUY!!!

10 bucks for 3.2 hours of really badly designed puzzles happening in only two areas without adequate illumunation is a bad deal. There isn't even an ending, the game just ends,

But hey, the devs have already announced the next entry into the series.
At least be honest and clearly label your shit as episodic.

Pros:
+ Beautiful locations
+ Great theme
+ Intriguing story
+ Good price point, especially on sale
+ Voice acting
+ Good writing
+ Beautiful scenes with flickering lighting

Cons:
- Tons of pixel hunting for relevant items
- The "puzzles" of the game require too specific items or aren't intuitive. Had to frequently dig through hours of walkthrough videos or translating a German pdf walkthrough to find a missed item
- Fairly commonly reported bug causes the game to be unplayable in the second half, was sent savegame to bypass error (see above)
- Flickering lights made streaming nearly impossible as steam had to reload the full screen every frame as the light changed. Would have loved an option to disable this

Didn't try running on wine as my Linux machine is poop and wouldn't run it.

I really loved this game and cannot wait for the next installment. The interface is easy to navigate, the voice acting is amazing, graphics are perfect for the atmosphere and the story is captivating! There is one part in particular that really jolted me but the entire second half of the game had me on pins and needles. If you liked this game, also check out Darkness Within 1 & 2.

Hidden 'On the Trail of the Ancients' has a lot going for it but it is hugely overpriced given its extremely short play time. Expect no more than 4 hours, even if you end up stuck on the puzzles for some time.

Without a doubt, I'd say that this is a great start to a point and click adventure. The voice acting and graphics are good quality, there are some interesting puzzles and the 'creepy' factor is well pitched. You see the beginnings of a well throught out supernatural horror story with enough detail to make you want to know more and well pitched tensio leading to some properly 'jump out of your seat moments'.

The problem is the game is over before you feel it has begun. The story is set up but hasn't developed at all. If this had been marketed as an episode 1 of a longer story and priced as such then I would not complain. But it is shorter than a single episode of many other games and at least twice the price.

If you like old-school point-and-click games, you will enjoy this one. The graphics, atmosphere and sounds/music are great.
Some items and clues are very well hidden, and you really have to use your brain to solve some of the puzzles. The hint system is timed, so that you have to wait for the next hint. Sometimes the hints weren't helpful to me, and I got stuck for a while. And I admit it, for 2 puzzles, I had to resort to a walkthrough - shame on me ;)
If you like to play this game genre without much "hand-holding", you'll enjoy this game.

If you are a fan of spooky old-school First-Person Point&Click Adventures with Lovecrafion style (such as Dark Fall: Lost Souls, Scratches, Darkness Within 1 and Barrow Hill), then this clearly the right game for you.

It looks very appealing and overall I really enjoyed of the puzzles although there were three of them that frustrated me just because of game mechanical reasons. There are some optional puzzles that are partially very hard, and extra stuff that you can do but don't have to do is something I already liked alot in The Night of the Rabbit.

I'm looking forward to the other part of the game and fully recomend this one if you are into this niche games.

Very good point and click supernatural Horror from Argentina.
Scary in places with a strong sense of dread and disturbing sound effects.
The story is intriguing, it delves into ancient civilizations and unwanted discoveries.
It can be a bit short but the overall experience is worth it.
The mechanics in the game are the strongest aspect of the gameplay.
Buy it if you like lovecraftian Horror and unknown cosmic forces.

A fun little adventure point-and-click. And please note: THIS IS A TRUE POINT AND CLICK GAME! You use the mouse to move, not WASD. The only time you use the keyboard is to open inventory/check goals. Thought I'd add this right at the top as a lot of people dislike the old-school P&C style games where you can't "free roam" with your keyboard.

Okay, so onto the review~

PROS:

* Interesting storyline and characters (love the archaelogical expedition theme)
* Lovely voice acting (English audio)
* Fun environments to explore (little creepy too!)
* Puzzles aren't crazy-difficult and make sense within the game (i.e, don't feel out of place/pointless/random)
* Audio ties in well with the atmosphere

CONS

* The lip syncing is hilariously bad, I couldn't stop laughing at Petrov and his facial movements, which isn't a good thing when this is a Super Serious game
* No subtitles, although developers have said they are coming in the next patch in multiple languages [EDIT AUGUST 12TH 2015: THE GAME NOW HAS SUBTITLES]

Overall, a very enjoyable game and I would absolutely recommend it to other P&C adventure gamers.
