Lilla Sandor is the protagonist of 'Pregnancy'. She is a 14 year old girl who lives in Hungary. Lilla gets pregnant after being abused by a criminal and she is confused about what to do with the child she carries in her womb. The player acts as the voice of conscience influencing and guiding the young girl's decisions.
At the end of the story, see how your decisions line up with other players, inspired by games like Telltale's The Walking Dead and Atlus' Catherine.

Its very good. Just download the dolphin emulator and put all its files in the game folder and delete the game exe and rename dolphins exe to the game exe's name and you can play dolphin on steam while people think you are a f@g
no gameplay, done in 20 minutes
seems more like a badly written blog post than an actual game
save your two bucks
This game was very, very quick (I spent 13 minutes for a run-through, but, I also read very fast.)! But, I see potential to replay to feed my curiosity on the other endings. Pregnancy takes a very interesting stance on a few controversial subjects. Mainly rape, abortion, and most obviously, teenage pregnancy. But before I delve into all of that, I'll talk about the gameplay! So you are the conscience of young Lilla, a girl who became pregnant after being raped. One of my favorite aspects is the way the player and Lilla interact. Sometimes in humerous ways, which I did not expect, but was welcome because the previous subject she and I discussed had left me in tears. Instead of literally being Lilla, you instead advise her. And she will either listen, or not listen, to your advice. I really felt like I was truly having a conversation with this young girl, and I found it interesting how not everything you discuss with her is of importance to the story, and just makes you feel like you're talking to a 14 year old girl. Her dialogue seemed very realistic and was welcome. Moving onto the story, wow. It was very intense at some parts, mainly when you experience her rape. You can feel her desperation, and it is simply heartbreaking. It is even more heartbreaking when you sit down and realize, wow, this is something millions of women have experienced, or will. I would not wish this fate upon even the worst of my enemies. To add insult to injury, Lilla is, as I previously mentioned, pregnant. She is fourteen, and should be worrying about her math or history test, not what she's going to do with the life growing inside of her. And that makes it even MORE heartbreaking. Lilla fights with herself over what to do. One one hand, it isn't her child's fault, and it is part of her. But on the other, she can't afford a child, especially at 14. And what if the child comes out looking like her rapist? Living knowing that it looks like him would be an unending nightmare. In the end, Lilla makes a decision based off of how you influenced her. (However, do not be fooled. This decision is not made by a simple "Should I keep it? Yes/no?". It's based off of so much more.). But what is by far the most interesting thing about this game, is the developer makes it clear in the end that both takes (pro choice/pro life) have interesting and valid points. The developer links to sources that show both sides to educate the player that both are valid stances. While I definitely enjoyed this game, I enjoyed it so much that I was sad it was so short! I know that there is more than one ending, and when I feel like crying some more, I'll go back and explore those endings. Despite how short it was, I do recommend it. It has entertaining humor, while being educational in the sense that you really get to see inside the mind of a victim. It helps develop more of an understanding and a deeper level of sympathy.
I was expecting...
something more than what was delivered in this story/game. The storyline is good. But, it is skimpy. The stats presented at the end are bugged and claim that 100% of all gamers made each of the choices, which is of course impossible. But, the biggest problem with the game, IMHO, is that the reader is not given a chance to make any choices that effect the outcome in the end. This is not a good idea for a video game. Gamers want to work towards a desired outcome in choice games.
I would suggest creating multiple endings for this story, in which the gamer could make real life-changing choices, and aim for targeted endings. This would reflect the fact that regardless of your idealogy in the life/abortion debate, you are a human being who is capable of thinking, making good choices, and directing the course of your own life. As is, I feel powerless. I feel used in the discussion, as my input was without effect in any manner. You asked for my choices after all, and you did not even take them into account in the ending to this choiceless story.
It is with reservation that I have to not recommend this game, since I would see it as a waste of the half hour I played the whole game. But, if the story were expanded, and multiple endings were made available, and the bugs in the ending stats provided actual data, then I would love to come back and edit my review to be a recommendation. It is definitely a subject worthy of a good game. You have just not delivered it yet.
Everything comes gradually and at its appointed hour. ~Ovid
I've recently played Locomotivah's Cahors Sunset, and parted my way with the satisfaction that I've become a bit more capable of emphasizing myself with another human being's situation. That was a game which presented me actual emotion, empathy and an insight to the human condition. I was expecting a similar experience with this game. Sadly, such wasn't the end result.
Pregnancy is supposed to be a mini game where we take the role of the voice within 14 year of Lilla Sandor's head. Not to present any huge spoilers, but she is recently raped and getting psychiatric help to overcome the trauma... until she discovers that she is pregnant. Thus, the title of the game. That is the exact moment you are introduced to Lilla's tale. You take a peek on her perception and give advice to the girl. There is no explanation whatsoever for your presence within her mind. She is in need of aid and you are there, yet I've completed the game twice and I'm positive that your influence over the girl's choice is nonexistent. Whatever you'd tell her, she'll end up doing the opposite anyway. So this is not a game: this is a botched infomercial.
The "game" tried to deal with an issue which is very real and grave, thus it is expected for it not to be conservative. What bothers me is that neither dialogues, nor events taking place within Lilla's life seem deep or real enough. Characters are immensely shallow - their perception exists in one liner responses - and dialogues are horribly superficial. I doubt that any 14 year old who is traumatized this much would ask the voice within her head whether she/he likes Hunger Games or not, and keep living her everyday life. Concepts deep and fundamental such as religion, society and sexuality are vaguely mentioned without giving any actual thought to their presence. Even with its best intention, the game doesn't go far off from being a lame power-point presentation with some piano music in the background.
For a game which discusses the nature of choice, you don't have any choice at all. She ends up either raising the child or having an abortion. Adoption isn't even considered as an option. The whole issue takes place within a 2 day period: she learns, she hides for a day, she blurts to certain people and she cries. Then she listens to REM's Everybody Hurts - a good song actually, one good reference within this game - and suddenly knows what to do with the child! It is ridiculous! A 14 year old getting raped and getting pregnant is not nature taking its course. It is a trauma and it has to contain the gravity of choice. This game, sadly, is a mockery on the concept.
If you'd like a better perception, watch Juno. If you'd like to be moved, play Cahors Sunset. Leave this abomination for poor reviewers like me. I lost some money on this... I suggest you don't.

One important thing to note is that this is really a game about rape as much as it is about pregnancy. It's a short game, and a fair portion of it is a fairly long (written) rape scene. So there's that.
I think I'm the target audience for this game, as I don't use "SJW" or "walking simulator" in conversation. Still, the game falls a little short of what I was hoping for.
Obviously, this game tries to be thoughtful. The writing, while not fantastic, is at least mechanically sound, and much better than many games developed in Europe. But the characterizations are shallow, and often unbelievable. I don't know how things work in Hungary, but I have a hard time believing that any psychologist would respond to a tearful revelation of rape and ensuing pregnancy with "Well, that's our last session. Send your family my love, and let me know if you need anything." Likewise, the cousin character is quite flippant about rape and teenage pregnancy.
While I appreciate that the game tries to present a serious issue with the gravity it deserves, its short length does the topic a disservice. If a developer is going to deal with a complex emotional situation, it would be do well to convey the complexity and the emotionality in depth. A cursory treatment serves no one.
The ending is not going to satisfy anyone, by design. But I think its facile presentation of information undermines what little value the game has. Ultimately, the only thesis that the game offers is that pregnancy and rape are complicated and difficult to deal with. The problem is that anyone willing to pay the two bucks to play this game already knows that, and probably expects at least a modicum of insight.
You know... I was almost on board for this. I thought it might handle rape and pregnancy in a respectful light which.. I guess.. sort of?
But a bullshit ending of... LOL WE FORCED THE CHARACTER TO MAKE THE OPPOSITE DECISION OF WHAT YOU WANTED HER TO DO, EVEN IF SHE REALLY WAS DOUBTING HERSELF, AND MAKE THE DECISION APPEAR OUT OF THIN AIR, JUST TO TEACH YOU THAT THERE ARE TWO SIDES TO EVERYTHING SDLKFJHSDFLKJSDFLKJ
oh fuck right off.
terrible writing. the girl is a pirate. unrealistic in everything. written by two men that have never been pregnant. no care for the source material
disappointing.
This game took 12 minutes to complete. Different options to choose, and etc, but not worth it for me, maybe a bit lower of a price.
$2.19 / 12 = 18 cents/min
Real talk.
Let's start with what went wrong with this game:
- Stock images
- Stock music (Did not fit with the mood of the game)
- Overpriced for a flash game
- Very little effort in terms of development
- Choices do not affect the outcome of the game
Overall, the execution of this game given the nature of its topic was very disappointing.
Well...
I was BFF's with this Child for at least 10 Minutes and in the end she does the opposite of what I told her?
I replayed, called myself by the Name of 'Luzifer' and watched the Baby burn in hell.
The tiny choice of adoption is not even mentioned that much and I can tell you that it is definetly easier for the Kid to get into adoption, than being pushed around by the 'loving mother' (not my mother - not my story)
Is this a good game? No
Did I have had fun playing it? No
Do we have to talk about the grafic's? Nope
Good syncronising/voiceacting? No-pe
Was the story good? Okay
Extrapoints for the game? Weblinks at the end of an game, that seriously would never get played by someone in this situation.
2/10 - For not being pushy about what you schould do
Pregnancy is a game about leading a character through a dark and terrible situation by making choices and watching how the different options affect the world. However, this game differentiates itself from all the others that might fall under the same description by putting the player into the role of a literal voice in the protagonist's head, rather than controlling them directly. This allows the player to converse with the character, discuss the different choices they encounter and become a character in their own right.
The ability of the protagonist to choose their own path despite the player's input is a core component of the game, giving them free reign to argue against decisions and question the player's motives and competency. The capacity exists to become friends or enemies with the main character and the relationship between the protagonist and the player is one I wish would have been explored more, had the game been longer.
I played through once, which took twenty minutes. Me and Lilla, I think her name is, parted ways amicably and I never made a solid decision for her, but the game interpreted my choices as pro-choice, so it was weird when it felt like the game ended by saying "Haha, she did the opposite of what you told her, we tricked you!" Our conversations were always friendly and open and I never really told her to do anything. I did wish there were more dialogue options, sometimes, but I'm always happy to pay £1.59 for a unique, interesting experience that makes me think.
This game has the potential to be very interesting and moving, but it falls short on several points:
1: It is too short
2: You have very little impact/Choices
3: you never get to know how the comunity reacts to her decision
etc
The ting that bother me the most however is the statistics at the end. It is assumed that because you are pro-choice that you want her to get an abortion, and that is not at all what pro-choice is about It is about excactly what the name implies; that there should be an option to choose and that that option should belong ultimately to the person going through the pregnancy.
I actually worked through this several times trying different choices to see what the outcome would be, but there was little to see at the end apart from a bunch of statistics about the choices the Steam community made while playing this game. Interesting for a few moments, but soon forgotten. I very much doubt i'll ever boot up the game again after spending a good hour playing this through a few times. Being a male it did make me ponder on the subject of rape and the consequences that are put onto the rape victim. My own sister went through an abortion after being raped and what was aweful, my father calling her some aweful names. I've never forgotten what he said and to be honest have never forgiven him for making my sister feel like dirt.
For the measly price of £1.59 I'm not going to not recommend this to the community. But I would say wait until it goes on sale as it'll be available for pennies, and then it may be worth getting just to experience the choices made by the girl through your influence and for the male population, it may make you think and even prevent some jerks from commiting such crimes.
You can plow through this experience in less than 10 minutes if you are a speed reader and don't ponder too long on the choices, or as I have done spend a good hour playing it more than once to see the outcomes from making different choices. Whichever you choose, you won't really see much apart from the statistics already mentioned above.
I really don't think this belongs here on Steam. It's not really a game, but more like an interactive information bulletin that gives the reader the ability to make some important choices after being raped by a stranger. It would be more appropriately viewed via a DVD given to rape victims to give them some clarity about the choices they may have to face over the coming months of the pregnancy. As mentioned above, it certainly brought back some sad memories for me and did make me think briefly about the consequences of rape, not just the effect on the girl, but the impact on family and the child if the pregnany was allowed to go full term.
Calling this "a game" is criminally insane.
It's just a Powerpoint presentation with no aestetical or gaming value.
You shouldn't support this.
I truly wish I could recommend this game because I think games like Pregnancy are incredibly important for our medium to grow but unfortunately I can't. With every click you make it becomes obvious that the story was not written by someone who experienced anything of the sort of emotional trauma Pregnancy wants to present to you and doesn't understand it. I'd even doubt the developers talked to women who'd been in this situation (or even teenage girls in general) and had to make a choice like this. Pregnancy is superficial and cliché ridden and falls emotionally flat on every account.
That ia s a big problem because there's not much else Pregnancy has in store. It's a basic visual novel or piece of interactive fiction (whatever you prefer to call it) with simple graphics and several choices that don't feel meaningful. Locomotivah tried to change that with the very last choice you make and the following result, which was a nice idea, but the execution again falls flat because of the writing. All in all Pregnancy goes agains the most basic rule of storytelling: Show, don't tell.
It saddens me to write this but in the end, I have to review what Pregnancy is and not what I wish it was. I wish it was a well written, emotional experience but it's far from it. Instead it's at best a redundant experience and at worst something that could potentially hurt better games that try to go a similar route as serious experiences like this have a hard time as it is and Pregnancy proves many critics right with all the things it does wrong.
Two grown up male devs trying to write like they're a pregnant 14 year old girl, what could go wrong? Let's see:
The good:
- The subject is original (rape and pregnancy)
The bad:
- The theme may be a bit to complex for the devs because everything is a bit flimsy in here...
- It's hard to feel anything for the girl despite the gravity of the situation, personality-wise everyone is some cardboard cutout of humans.
- The multiple choices are useless, and the girl will do the opposite of what you advise in the final decision, your decisions are simply pointless
- Not a single feel was felt, I mean it doesn't make you think, it doesn't disturb or give you any reaction whatsoever, it's just... meh.
- It's basically a 5 minute slideshow leading nowhere.
So basically, it's 2€ for a small pile of colored post-it notes with text on it, it may be the price of a cup of coffee or two but there will be more entertainment and more depth it the latter (latte?) than in the game, but it's a novelty it's up to you if you feel like wasting such a small amount of money or not.
I'd really like to see some thought provoking games on steam, with a grave subject and intelligent narration but unfortunately we're not here yet. But at least it's a start, I hope it will inspire someone to do something better...
I wasnt sure what to expect when I sat down to Pregnancy. I went in hopeful for at the very least, a polished game.
What I recieved instead, was a heavy handed graphic novel with very little choice, broken english and many, MANY typos.
I understand that I am likely not the main demographic this "game" was designed for, but I can not in good conscience advise ANYONE to experience this.
At one point two different pianos pieces were playing at once, causing a cacophany of noise, that I can only assume was a glitch, in any case it completely broke immersion.
Another problem with this "game" is that you have no real control over anything. Your choices feel skin deep at best, and dont appear to have any real clear effect on the events of the story.
The "game" also, repeatedly insults the "player". Calling the person "playing" the game various names and insults.
All I can wonder if why anyone would want to play a game about pregnancy at all? There is no gameplay to speak of, the main character is very simply written and difficult to identify with, there are numerous typos and it is very clear the creator did not spend much time polishing this "game".
I dont think even an actual 14 year old girl would find much luck trying to identify or learn anything from this game.
Well... Pregnancy is a "Game" about a very serious matter, that was terribly executed.
You click your Mousebutton to read a Girl's story, She was rαpεd, got pregnant and is now looking for advice.sometimes you have to pick some Answers but those choices dont really matter.
Basically
its like a 10 minute Power Point presentation with classic Music.
Sure the subject is important, but how it is packed here, its nothing more than a scam for me.
This should be free to play, because its really not worth your money.
Better watch a Youtube Video instead, that is free and probably more informative.
Just save your money. I know this game only costs the same as a cup of coffee at Starbucks, but seriously... get the coffee. You'll enjoy it far more. I only bought this game because somebody else linked me to it, and I thought to myself "What in the holy hell? This has got to be the most terrible idea for a game ever." So naturally I bought it, so I could review it for some friends. Sadly enough, it still wasn't the worst game I've ever played... but damned if they didn't aim for the title anyway.
Seriously. Don't buy this game. It's heavy handed, poorly written, and the only way they could've made the experience more painful would be to give me an actual abortion while I played it.
