Overview
There is nothing in this world.
Just endlessly falling rain.
The population here is exactly one.
Getting off the elevator one day, a mysterious world was waiting.
No one else was around, only endless rainy sky and weathered flagstones.
In this world, getting hungry and even death wasn't possible.
It was a world where time seems to have stopped.
Except one thing -- the rain continued to fall.
"This world has a population of just one. So get out."
A girl named "Rin" told the protagonist.
She declared that she was the lone mistress of this rainy world.
For how many years, decades, even centuries...
Has she lived all alone in this world?
Will the day come when the rain stops falling?

The thing I dislike about stage-nana works the most is older guy paired with little girl who will never grow up.
Both this work and Winter Polaris share that with the immortal girl who loves you and will never grow up into a woman.
It's creepy.
Even Narcissu falls into that with the concept of a girl who will never grow up because she dies.
That's the worst part of these works, it's a world of infantalized sad girls and "nice guy" men who date them.

The good parts of these works is that the music is really really good. Their use of storytelling by using imagination and empty landscapes is interesting. They let you fill in the gaps and that is good.
They've also built up a relationship with the english translation scene that is interesting to see.
As someone with an interest in narrative design and otaku culture this work is worth playing despite the ick factor.
If you are looking to play a stage-nana work I'd go with Narcissu since it has the least ick factor and is the best work. If you are curious about "classic" japanese kinetic vns I'd say go for Planetarian: The Reverie of a Little Planet instead.
If you are looking for a more stat based game I'd go for tokimeki memorial and if you are looking for more of a romance simulator I'd get a cheap dsi and love plus.
If you are looking for the best VNs you're better off wandering around itch.io and looking at the new stuff for whatever ultra specific interest you have. The best vns are being made today.
everything has an end.
this kinetic novel is presented with a plot and characters that are both a mystery, and they will remain like that for most of time, just like the empty paraller world.
everything is surrounded not only by mystery, but rain and sadness too.
the story first centers on a protagonist who has emotional problems and the only way to ease his pain is to end his life, nevertheless he continues to live despite failed attempts to commit suicide. its monday and he is on his way to a job he hates, and instead of going directly to his office, he takes the elevator in his building to the seventh floor, the top one, walks out to the roof, climbs over the fence around it and hangs over the edge. he is living a pointless life. he doesnt want to continue living while at the same time he doesnt want to necessarily die. he more doesnt want to actually commit suicide. the climbing over the fence is merely a reminder that he can end it at any time, which brings him some comfort and lets him make it through the rest of the week. and one day on his usual day to work he sees a new floor on the elevator, the 8th, when the door opens he is revealed to a world that may seem like an afterlife, and meets the only resident in such world, girl named Rin.
the story proceeds down two story paths, each part of which has to be completed before continuing to read so that the player alternates between them, its switching perspectives from the protagonist, to the past of the priestess that can no longer remember her name, covering under her sisters name Rin.
not only because its short that it maybe didnt have enough time to explore its aspects but i think it was literally supposed to be this mysterious, with not so big world-building nevertheless for me it was pretty striking already from the cover. it looks very beautiful and it was just simple enough with some emotional power. the music fits perfectly since its gloomy too. I liked the ground of an isolated place like the rainy world and with the music you can feel sadness when reading the story. i still wish it would be more explored in depth but Ame no Marginal is still nice and has its own beauty in nature of being this mysterious, it is all revolving about mystery and i like it that way. it may seem boring though. if u dont like having put questions without basically any answers then i dont recommend it.
the message in this novel is pretty unclear, perhaps to not give up on life even when youre in despair. everything has its end, except to not only this mystery but many other mysteries that will keep existing on with no answer in this kinetic novel.
