Heroes Never Lose is a fast-paced, action-packed platformer that puts you in the role of a group of heroes tasked with saving the world from an evil villain.
The gameplay is smooth and responsive, with a variety of moves and abilities at your disposal as you navigate through levels and defeat enemies. The level design is well done, with a good mix of platforming challenges and enemy encounters.
One of the standout features of Heroes Never Lose is its vibrant, colourful graphics. The character designs are charming and the levels are bursting with life, making for a visually appealing experience.
The story, while fairly standard for a platformer, is well-written and provides a good motivation for the player's actions. The voice acting is also strong, with the characters all delivering solid performances.
Overall, Heroes Never Lose is a fun, enjoyable platformer that's worth checking out for fans of the genre. Its fast-paced gameplay, charming graphics, and well-written story make it a standout experience.
If you liked Super Puzzle Fighter on PS...
This is a welcomed Puzzle Fighter II-inspired game. The mechanics are pretty much the same, with the addition of special attacks to spice things up.
The character design is amazing, and the animations look great. It looks like an adaptation of a cartoon series!
What would really make the game better is to have a nicer drop algorithm, because in the current state of things, this makes the game too hard and too much relying on chance, as opposed to Puzzle Fighter. By that, I mean 2 things: firstly, that "breakers" appear more steadily (sometimes 2 or 3 will appear at the very beginning of the game, where they're pretty much useless, and then it'll take forever for a new one to appear, filling up your grid for way too long); secondly, that when your opponent makes "timer blocks" appear, chunck of blocks of the same colors appear, because otherwise it is WAY too hard to clean up.
The game is still in Early Access, so I'm hopeful that those things will change someday as they are only of a tweaking matter, and otherwise the game is super fun!
I have played Super Puzzle Fighter for over 20 years now, on a very frequent basis. This game is clunky, confusingly overcomplicated, and totally missing the charm of SPF2. I appreciate the effort in them trying to release a modern non mobile version by totally ripping off puzzle fighter, but it just is no substitute what so ever. Stay away imo.
This is an artistic clone of *Super Puzzle Fighter* from PS1 & a grandchild of classic Sega game Columns (1990) with strong competitive emphasis. It's basically a mix of tetris & match-3 concepts enriched with bonuses & tricky debuff techniques that you can throw at your rival (you earn them with your flawless performance) to clutter his field of action & make him fail in the hasty action.
The most fun I get arise certainly from the cool design & brilliant animations - there is a bunch of original super-heroes (poking at usual cliches) brilliantly thought out & depicted with their themed rooms (where the matches take place), excellent voice-over signature phrases (often upsetting & mean in the most jolly way) & 'super-powers' they constantly harass you with.
It can be played against the AI (which is very tough at the hardest difficulty) or humans in both local & online multiplayer modes, with joypad or keyboard.

TLDR: Eternal Early Access. Limited Roster. Not as intuitive or feature rich as Puyo Puyo Tetris. Play that instead.
Splitscreen Dr mario combat with Xbox360 pad and retro theme. Well made too, just lacks a bit in content and has a few blemishes that needs fixing. Slow updates. Possibly abandonned.
It is a retro superhero fight Dr mario game. Xbox360 pad works out of box. Game is well designed mechanically, with the ability to fuse squares of same colored blocks which becomes attacks when cleared. Attacks dump a bunch of random tiles on a timer in the enemy screen rather than attack hit points which is both clever but also very obvious way of handling the combat mechanic. I like it, clean and fair. The timer ensures that your attack dont immediately give your foe ammo for a counter attack with all the randomly fused blocks.
Early Access: Game has been on early access for a long time. Dev team seems to have abandonned updates. They left messsages on the community saying they did not, but those are old and no updates have been forthcoming. Game only has one of each elemental hero and one balanced hero. The superhero voice acted taunts overlap on top of each other at the beginning of each match which is poorly executed and unpleasant.
Conclusion: Puyo Puyo tetris uses instantly recognizable rules, a load of modes solo, local or online, has a very granular solid grasp on the core mechanics and handles up to 4 player combat. Heroes Never Lose is just flat out redundant and outcompeted.

After YEARS of searching both on Steam and the Google Play store, I finally found a Super Puzzle Fighter clone that lives up to the original! Music is great, animation is great, gameplay is fast, and specials gives game a jolt of fun.
While the game is in Early Access --> the devs consider this their passion project and are still working towards a final build. As it is now, it is a stable/ great game!
tl;dr: BUY NOW, THANK ME LATER

Bought it at a 75% discount. I really liked the video on the main page. Reminded me of Dr. Mario, Columns III and Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine. So I thought - I'll give it a try.
Aaaand.... I was really disappointed.
This game has a nice concept, but is badly executed.
First of all - you can't control the menus with a mouse and you can't rebind the keys.
The music is way too intense and always the same. It gets tiresome very quickly.
The block sound, when you move it around, are way too noticeable. It just doesn't blend in.
Controls are not intuitive. Especially when you play the survival mode and the speed is very high. Survived nearly 13 minutes on the first try. Could have been longer, but the unresponsive controls made it hard to move the blocks where I wanted them...
The core gameplay lacks depth. Every match feels literally the same. (I played Dr. Mario for years and that game is still more varied than this one).
And the main reason I don't recommend this game is that it's much more luck based than skill based. The one who will get more breaker blocks at the right time - wins.
A simple but pleasant experience. I got the game with a 75% coupon and I enjoyed this game more than most f the early access titles. This game has the retro charm of Dr.Mario but has a unique play style. There aren’t many characters to choose from, but I understand that it is created by a small team who have other full time jobs and created this as a passion hobby. If you like to support a independent Dev and enjoy a simple strategy game (but hard to master) a la Tetris versus, look no further.
Do you like super puzzle fighter 2 turbo? It is that with 32 bit graphics, awesome backgrounds and an array of heroes.
Negatives:
- Holding DOWN (one grid drop) and pressing UP (quick drop) basically feel the same. The animation needs to be slowed and smoothed for Down. (Maybe an early access or xinput control bug)
- It would be nice to be able to view your opponents drop rate mid battle.
I really wanted to recommand this game at first. A descent puzzler with nice comic books inspired graphics, various characters, a touch of humor...
Mechanics are simple, you destroy color blocks on your side of the screen with special smash blocks, so you can fill your enemy's screen with random annoying blocks that cannot be destroyed along with your other blocks, for 5 turns.
So, what's wrong with that game?
Well these damn smash blocks appear randomly. And obviously at some point your opponent got shitloads of em, and you got none.
That's not a big deal on easy difficulty (there's no challenge at all), but when you get to harder difficulties, AI gets cheated, and keeps sending you countdown blocks, without even destroying his owns. This makes no sence, winning a game gets more about luck than skills. I haven't raged this hard in a while.
Besides, controls are not really good, and you cannot even bind your own keys...
Yet, this is an early access, I still hope they'll make a good game out of it, but as for now, and considering the price, I wouldn't recommand it.
3,5/10
I'll keep it short: This game is a damned fine one based on the same principles as Super PuzzleFighter 2 Turbo. You choose a hero/villain and try to keep your playing field as free of blocks as possible. Get four blocks together? They become a super-block and deal massive damage when you land a block-buster on them. Additionally, each character has a special and an ultimate attack that you can trigger depending on how full the special gauge is.
Each stage has an animated background and depending on how well you're doing your character's stance and such will change. Beware of opponent specials as quite a few can really change the playing style you need to use.
I was so exicted to see that kind of game exist on steam ! Like the famous Super Street Fighter Puzzle Turbo ! .... But once I played, it's really ridiculous : not a lot of gameplay, characters are useless, slow, no fun .... You'll play it few minutes after saying "ah ok .... Well ... Next ! "
Too bad ... And very very expensive for what it is !
Pretty entertaining, kind of like tetris battle.
The powerups are fun too.
Let's not beat around the bush here.
It IS a Super Puzzle Fighter Clone, with power ups, based in a superhero universe. Plays well, controller compatibility is a plus for a title like this, and the music and graphics will take you back with nostalgia thrills. But in all honesty, for a puzzle title like this, the retro arcade graphics probably work better than something brushed up and smoothed with complex textures. This makes the game feel more raw and likable, and five or ten years from now could still be enjoyed without cringing a little.
The Normal setting was a bit of a cakewalk, so I'm yet to try my luck with the hard setting.
The "superpowers" that are character specific is a very neat touch to the gameplay. Instead of generic power-ups for everyone, each person gets their own power that is best used in certian situations over others. Professor Puzzler's power is by far one of the most annoying personally.
Online and local multiplayer is a plus and overall; if you like drop style puzzle games that have or have the potential to be competitive, this is a definite buy. An absolute MUST if it's on sale.
9/10 - Awesome!
P.S. It also looks as if more content for the game is on the way, which is needed and good to see.
A very nice indie rendition of Super Puzzle Fighter 2. Great characters, great music, and of course the gameplay is great too. The developers are still hard at work on the game and have been actively talking to the community. If you like puzzle games and Puzzle Fighter, this is a must-have for your library
doesn't say this game is early access on the store page..... yet most of the characters in the game aren't added. interesting
I liked the idea of smash blocks for about 5 seconds until it gets to a point where no smash blocks are coming up for you, but plenty for the opponent. so... it's not really up to the player to decide who is going to win, is it, if the game never feeds you smash blocks.
I really wanted to like this game, and I don't. It's incomplete and the mechanics are unfair
It's okay, I guess. Despite the many complaints I've got, I genuinely enjoyed playing it.
Now, to those complaints:
- Lack of a proper window mode. I can switch out of fullscreen but there's no option to change the resolution, so the game still covers the whole screen, which is always uncomfortable for me.
Some backstory would've been nice.Okay, I've found it. Still think it would've felt betters on the character select screen.
- It's too heavy on the graphics and there's no option to lower the quality. My game froze and crashed several times, once it even took Steam down along with it. No way to access the options from the pause menu either, which is just sad.
- No mouse controls, even for the menus, really?
- A tutorial would've been nice, I think.
[*] And also again, some of the losing animations were impossible to see behind the playing field which took a while to disappear after the win/loss.
The idea is nice but I find that the execution is somewhat lacking.
I'm hoping that these issues might get addressed in the future but meanwhile I guess I will still keep playing for some time. Does not require much concentration after all, which is what I'm looking for in casual games.
P.S. I know it's unrelated to the game itself but I expected to see some gameplay in the trailer. Unfortunately, there wasn't any, so I had no clear understanding what kind of game I was buying, except that it was some kinda mix of tetris and three-in-a-row. Meh, whatever, right?
Edit 3/17: changed a few things around based on recent experiences.
This is exactly like Super Street Puzzle Fighter. I loved that game. I guess it's similar to Dr. Mario.
Just wish more people would be playing online.
(editing the review due to the game not pulling cheating magic. (Long story short on that I was left fighting an unwinnable battle due to the AI flipping a tile endlessly and never getting a new one.))
Music, isn't the best and a lot of it sounds the same, other than Dr puzzler who I wish I had the time to fight without risking going over the 2 hour limit.
I don't see how this brings any thing new to stacker games other then slapping a super hero skin on it, they don't even have two of the heroes that are on their icon, let alone all the ones you see in the pictures. (Isn't that false advertisement?)
The stats mean nothing as even while playing as the fire girl I swear I just got the same odds for cleaning any other element, and of course she claims high fire but this could just be something my foe has to deal with rather than myself I admit.
Now for the good...
It looks nice like really nice....
It's hard to beat if your into that, no really easy mode nearly gave me a loss I shutter to think how the harder AI is WITHOUT CHEATING!
Dr. Puzzler, wish I could have had my fight with him without worrying over the 2 hour limit his music was great he looks fresh and I would have liked to see what he attacked with over the element attacks I'd seen in other puzzle games, not counting gun nut that was kind of cool.
Never got a chance to try 2 player but the sad thing is there is nothing else other then this. No gimmick battles no story it just have a very bear feeling to it, OR it feels like someone that loves to draw made this because I loved the looks but there felt like little polish anywhere else. If you already have a stacker game there is no reason to buy this game otherwise wait till you see it for 3 bucks.
(If this review gets scraped due to me wanting a refund ah well I've said my piece hope the makers improve the game more and I hope you reading this, if you bought the game I hope you enjoy it and don't have the bad taste I had.)
