Описание

Overview

Play through an engaging and emotional story set in a deep world full of its own original mythology and history. The universe and all its inhabitants have been reincarnated, but the world’s structure isn’t how it should be. Those who can dream are considered cursed in this society. You’ll solve the mysteries behind the Dreamers, and even enter into their Dreamspaces for unique, interesting areas to explore.

Take advantage of the Dual Soul class system, switching between Pure and Veil classes in the heat of battle, to conquer challenging enemies and bosses.

Note: The game has an optional 'Lucid Awakening 1 Primer' in-game that will tell you everything you need to know about Lucid Awakening 1. This way you can start off with Lucid Awakening 2.

Story Overview

Dual Soul System

Zeke, Silas, and Terra have the ability to transform into various ‘Souls.’ These forms are actually the result of their bodies recreating past lives they lived in previous Epochs.

Each of the three characters has their own unique set of Pure and Veil Souls they will obtain throughout the story. You can assign one Pure and one Veil Soul outside of battle, then freely switch between the two in battle.

All enemies are also either Pure or Veil. Souls and enemies deal more damage to the opposing alignment but deal less damage to the same alignment. They will also receive more damage from the opposing alignment and take less damage from the same alignment.

Don't mind the short playtime. Got it on Itch from a bundle and literally finished the game a day ago.

Primarily buying this to show support for the developer who is making another game.

I really wasn't expecting much from this game, having played the first one, which was just average in all aspects. This was very much an improvement to the first. The story was great although very typical "save the world by an unlikely bunch of heroes" type. The dual class soul system is so unique although I would have preferred one more extra set of souls as I already got all the skills and passive buffs pretty early. The humor is top-notch, primarily due to the rapport between the characters. The game had some really unique ideas definitely. The secret boss and the final boss really threw a curve ball into the battle system.

Overall, I loved it and I was surprised by how much I loved it. I wish good luck to the developer on his next game!

Preamble:

Since I am a perfectionist and completionist and not by choice or virtue (in general) and on top of that depressive and bearing a few personality disorders, games are not always fun for me, especially when they require lots of memorization, tedium and backtracking to get to the "100%".

Review

(spoiler free)

When I played the first Lucid Awakening, I thought that the series as a whole might be mediocre at best.
The storywriting, the characters, the atmosphere, the battle system, everything was mediocre.
Thus I was going into the sequel with lowered expectations and, well, I was in for a positive surprise.

Literally everything I mentioned improved in Lucid Awakening 2 and some things may even leave fond memories about the experience, in the end.
The game is rather lengthy and that is a good thing, for the first quarter kept me thinking it may be superficial and lovelessly crafted, but the story and gameplay picked up pace and improved a lot. Now don't get me wrong: The total package isn't yet flawless, but hell, I still wouldn't recommend anyone to stop playing the game before they reach the end.

I'll try a little numbers chart. Since it's my first time doing that it may look unrefined, but whatever.
"Bigger is better" applies to every score except the Stress Level.

My overall enjoyment of the game, which favored some aspects over others, lead me to give Lucid Awakening 2 a score of 8.6 out of 10.

An explanation to the above follows, where I feel it's needed to understand my point.

Sound & Graphics
were judged following the criteria of whether or not I felt it fit the game as a whole and how it compares to works of other publishers that used the same engine.
I'm not easily impressed when it comes to music and while some innovative use of themes at certain points in the game did improve the experience, the soundtrack and effects per se aren't excellent.
The graphics were good enough, not to make me feel, like I played "yet another RPG Maker game". So that was nice.

Difficulty
was OK for what the game seemed to be opting for. Could have been harder though.
If you're looking for really challenging RPGs, this is not for you.

Operability
is what I use to judge how optimized the input as a whole, for maneuvering through each aspect of the game, was.
It's not terrible, but a few "barriers" within the menu should have been removed and the overall view could have been improved to make searching things easier. The game also suffers from RPG Makers lack of "proper" input customization.

Stress Level
is best understood by reading the preamble.
You can see this game largely didn't stress me out at all.
In fact: Just for the pure enjoyment factor I get by being able to play instead of plan a game, this is a true winner.

I hope this helps someone. If there's any questions or concerns you think I might help relieve, comment away.
Cheers!

From what I have played of the game so far it has been very enjoyable, the story is great so far, even coming with a little primer on the first game if you never played it. The story stands well on it's own even if you haven't played the first, definately check the primer to get filled in, makes a couple of things clearer.

The job system is pretty fun aswell, allowing you to mix and match classes and roles with more being unlocked as you go along, it can be quite confusing at first however. You have to work out when to switch classes in battle, such as when an enemy is about to attack so you can absorb damage or when you need to use an ability and you have to think a couple of moves ahead, you can change the battle system to pause when you are making a move so you have plenty of time to think, or if you want a more hectic fast paced experience you can change it so that it doesn't pause on your turn similar to Final Fantasy 6.

If I had to nitpick and find a downside I would say the environments are not interactable, I would like to be able to break into people house and see if they are hiding healing items under their plants or find out if their clock has stopped, if it was added it would make the game world feel more alive to me.

Overall I think this is a very good game and I recommend it to anyone who enjoyed the earlier Final Fantasy games or Chrono Trigger to give this game a try, they might just find a new world to get lost in.

Even though I had a few problems to start with I would still rate this 5/5 because the developer was active and helpful. The game itself is reminicent of old RPG action adveture games with a strong feeling of final fantasy about it but it is easier to understand and follow the story. the entire thing is something I would expect to have come a large game development company not a indie developer working on his own. definitly worth the £4 I paid.

the story is a bit cliche but you still get suck into it, the 3 main characters have a lot of interractions with one another. The battle system while still turn based feel strategic and you can avoid battles if you really want to, the game is llinear until a certain point in the story. I had a few thingsthat bothered me and I`m sure a few others will have too: The heath bar of ennemies sometimes seem misplaced in battles making the ennemies hard to see at times. I just wished that the parts where npcs joined you were longer, i also had issues with one particular dungeon in the games. Theses negatives points doesn`t make the game not enjoyable in my humble opinion it`s a matter of preferences. The developer is also really open to his fans/players and use their feedback to improve the game which is a big + for me. Do not hesitate if you like RPGS games, you will enjoy this garentee!!
