Описание

Predestination is a turn-based sci-fi 4X game set in the distant past of our own galaxy. Ships from countless races are flung back in time by a powerful hostile race known as the Revenants, and must now work to rebuild their empires and somehow stop the Revenants in the past. Explore the galaxy, colonise habitable worlds, meet alien races, and wage war.

Predestination blends the gameplay of classic titles like Master of Orion II with a narrative storyline and new game mechanics 4X fans have been waiting years to get their hands on: A 3D galaxy map, turn-based tactical fleet combat, advanced planetary exploration and colonisation gameplay, terraforming, a seamless 3D ship designer, and many other features.

This game had quite a lot of promise, but the development is dead. DO NOT buy this game, and add the developers to your personal blacklist of shoddy developers. They're continuing to advertise their game, without it being finished. Appalling.

Idk what to say about this game, i got this awhile back and checking to see how they are doing. Look like they may have pull the plug here. The game itself isnt complete and not really sure if this game is stable to play, really hate getting into something that isnt finish and then ruin your gaming experiences later on.

So might wanna avoid this game!

While this game does have some interesting mechanics and some strong points like flexible ship editor, it has UI that is too anoying and incompatible with the amount of micromanagement that game requires.

Examples of terrible UI:
- Game has nice mechanics where effectivenes of power source will depend onto planet (like geothermal power being very weak on Mars) yet player has to manually check effectivenes instead of just seeing some kind of mark that helps to select best source. As result each colonization and city starts with checking each power source one by one, it becomes tedious very fast.
- It's often nessesary to iterate through cities, yet the only way to do so is to return to planetary view and then manually chose next city (at least there is a list.) Simple arrow buttons left and right of '-' button would have simplified things a lot. Same for cycling planets in system - if you want to revise routes you have to manually switch planets from galaxy map.
- Survey found a deposite, you click on the icon and game brings you to surface of the planet. If you like what you see you can't shedule a colony ship or even order one from orbit (despite seeing one at this planet's orbit), you have to return to galaxy map to set the order (fortunately it is possible to order colonization by closest ship from galaxy map).
- Either UI of space stations is terribly counter intuitive or it is buggy. UI of shipyard has a section dedicated for itself, but clicking things there does nothing.
- Trade routes need constant manual control (because when you upgrade facility or build shipyard, production rate changes), it does not appear to be possible to just send whole surplus once storage is full or any other kind of automation sans fixed resource rate
- Mining ship is supposed to mine resources, but instead of disappearing into asteroids like research ship does with planets, it stays visible on galaxy map and deverts attention from more important ships.

And a lot other smaller things that when coupled with nessesary amount of micromanagement make game boring.

The game is meh. It's your standard 4x MMO with questionable design choices and boring AI.

Combat -

Turn based. Clunky. Rough.

The graphics and ship models are reminiscent of Space Empires 5, but micromanagement and ship control mechanics are fairly unsatisfying. Battles can be manually orchestrated, automated, or both. After a few bouts of manual fighting in small squad and large fleet formations, my interest in the combat system was largely extinguished and I opted to auto-resolve every battle. Designing ships, whether as part of a 1-design fleet or with several different ship types that complement themselves, feels constraining and not very fun.

Overall, the combat in this game is poor and most other indie titles have done it better.

Empire management -

The majority of this game is spent either on colony building or navigating through an obtuse UI. City building on planets is probably the only good part of this game, however even that has its drawbacks. Unfortunately, information in general is fairly decentralized. You have to go through several different tabs, or do math yourself, to figure out simple statistics or to justify construction choices. One of the more infuriating examples of this is having to go through each individual city screen to figure out how much of the population on your planet is employed/unemployed - which is fairly important because it is easy to run into worker shortages that can cause some serious problems.

In the end, you manage planets until they are fully built, sometimes tweaking existing ones due to advances in technology. Having to manage more than 1 developing planet at a time is exhausting, and becomes tiresome after a while.

Overall, planet building is above average and is, at least initially, more enjoyable than what most other titles offer.
That being said, the UI is just bad.

Other aspects -

Research is typical. You have different categories with their own trees, and are locked out of parallel branches most of the time depending on your research choice.

Diplomacy is basic, and only good for trading tech. Which is kind of bad. Empires don't really declare war on each other, or on you unless you refuse to trade with them under coercion of war. AI will often create a "galactic council". Which will result in the same galactic resolutions or laws being constantly brought up for a simple yes/no/abstain vote, which basically ends up feeling like spam.

AI in general is basic. Not challenging in the slightest even on the toughest difficulty.

Notifications (to stop auto-turn ending and the like, because let's face it you will be passing turns like crazy waiting for research or colonies to mature) are annoying. There is no option to customize what will stop turns from auto-ending, and you will either have to decide to play the game by reading EVERY notification of what happens, such as finding a common ore deposit on a planet, or ignoring all of them - there is really no convenient in between.

You can't customize auto-save intervals, and there is no F5 quick save option either. (nor are there any hotkey options or settings for them).
Not an issue until you get perma-freezing 2 hours into a game and have to deal with it constantly reverting your progress.

TL;DR Combat sucks and you spend a lot of your time dealing with annoying shit.

EDIT: After several more hours in the game, I can now add micromanagement hell to the list of woes. Min/maxing planets takes hours of playtime. The whole planets idea is nice enough, but did you have to make it so laborious? Devs, did you ever actually play your game? I have been a fan of 4X space games for over 20 years, and this is possibly the worst I have ever played.

I'm very disappointed with this game. Clunky game mechanics and some of the worst art styling I have ever seen. In trying to do a different take on 4X games, the devs have failed to make a game you want to play. What's in the game works well enough, but it doesn't grab you. I purchased during early access, and waited for the game to mature on it's way to release. It's still in an immature state, post - release. The visual styling sums up the whole game nicely - Crude with delusions of quality.

Imagine a world where Civilization and Master of Orion never existed. Where a developer set out to make the world's first 4x game with no preconceptions of how it should actually play.

That's the good part of this game. It has a hundred unique mechanics that you won't find in other games. The downside is that most of the mechanics are stupid, poorly thought out, or just incredibly poorly balanced.

too unbalanced for a 4x game. you have a limit to how many ships you can build based on your star bases which you can build at the expanse of limiting your planetary economy and it means that big guys would always be able to swarm the little guys (unlike sins where unit cap is universal for a certain level for all players).

some races have the ability to research everything while some dont, and if left unattended for long these races can have all the perks the game has to offer and can even colonize every planet while others cant and for instance would have to choose if they want to be able to colonize tundra volcanic or otherwise but once they choose they cant colonize the others.

tech tree is by far the smallest of any 4x game i ever played, even dawn of andromeda with its stupidly small and uncreative tech tree had alot more to offer, and it takes decades to research or build anything and by the time you get enough money to build colony ships the ai on medium already has a full fledged empire of at least 8 worlds and can come at you with fleets of warships while you barely had your first miserable corvette roll of the assembly line

This doesn't deserve mixed reviews - it's the only early access game I haven't regretted buying. The devs make substantial patches and many aspects are extremel satisfying -- I feel confident that by the time we're out of early access, it'll be the 4X I've always wanted to play.

Needs a lot of improvement.
Great concept.
A bit expensive for a game at this level of development.
Updates are more common than I'd expect, but less common than I'd like.

DO NOT BUY OR SUPPORT THIS UNPROFESSIONAL SOLO DEV
*******************************************************************************

I bought this maybe 9 months ago, and after playing it for a small time to begin with I realised just how unfinished it was with art assets missing, several crashes and generally a poor experience to play.

You literally find yourself watching time pass by waiting for something interesting to happen which invariably it doesn't.

9 months later I have tried the game again and it appears to me apart from a few art assets now appearing that the game development has stopped or stalled. Half the map sizes are unplayable still listed as unavailable for testing, and I expect they never will be because it is unlikely a year or more after "early access" that the game will enjoy a sudden boom of people willing to buy it.

My advice to anyone:

Don't buy this junk unless it is on offer for under £1 or $1. It is not worth more than that.

UPDATE:

So here we are nearly in 2018 - I notice they posted a Xmas update 'nearing v1.0'...

Well I just tried the game again and the first thing I noticed is all map sizes appear to be available when starting a new game...
The race choice screens still exactlly the same but now with spurious animations...
The game start, zoomed in on a planet - go to build fossil fuel plant - NO ART ASSET
Look at city - Resaerch lab, Population centre etc... NO ART ASSET
Run time on a few turns... wait, wait wait -swap research - nothing to do,,, more turns....crap gameplay. crap game.

2 years later this junk game is still junk - I've got other 1 man dev games that have come along more in a month than these guys have done in 2 years. Terrible developers - will probably blame BREXIT next for this crap farce of a game.

DO NOT SUPPORT.

EDIT: 16/10/2018 - So I recently learned the Dev here in an Eve Online player "Nyphur" and writes atricles for Massively... A 'big Ego' in Eve and as an experienced ex-Eve player myself I know this 'Predestination" project is the side project to finance his "real life" which focussed on playing Eve Online and writing about it.... Sad.

Totally unprofessional to accept money from people on the promise of making game then proceed to spend most of you time playing a differnet game to the detriment of your own project, when adding the making excuses for slow progress by blaming family bereavement (fair enough) but then taking on more side projects (writing for an Eve Blog!?!) seems unethical too IMHO.

He also retweeted a twitter article from another failed solo-dev about "all those Negative Steam EA Reviews disappear over time" so money keeps trickling in as new people find and try the game"... This flagrant attidute for other people makes me hate this guy even more - prompting this ragey edit... It feels this game more belongs as a scam in Jita rather than on Steam.

ONCE AGAIN -- DO NOT SUPPORT THIS UNPROFESSIONAL DEVELOPER.

This is a great game that's unique to strategy games, I haven't found a strategy game quite like this one. I'm particuarly fond of the ship designer and the ability to explore the galaxy. The planned storyline is rather interesting, being sent back in time to when the galaxy was created and the chaos that comes after that. As stated in the other reviews, if you've enjoyed civilisations you'll certainly like this game. The dev team are very active and responsive to reported glitches and clearly show hard work in their game.

Obviously, glitches are to be expected in the game so I would only suggest this game to people who are willing to support the team

Exploring the galaxy at the moment seems rather easy and it's rather predictable. For example random events include acid rain, nuclear meltdowns or crop blight which are easy to deal with when you have a large level of resources. However, the temporal rifts can pose a challenge with the revenants attacking or the acceleration bubbles which can destroy one of your planets.

I spent about 4 hours on this game at version 0.91. I am pretty excited now about the release version. My history is with MOOII, Space Empries, Civ Series, Gal Civ series, and so forth. This game has one really unique aspect that I have thought about "if I ever were to make my own game" in that it is two games in one. There is first a significant phase just on one planet, getting yourself to the starship phase. Only at that point does the second part of the game open up.

I would be playing more of the game now, but it's difficult because a few parts of the release version are not in place yet, mainly fleet and planet organizers. Without those, it's hard to continue deep into the game. But my taste of this game has been very good. I probably say that in about 1 out of 10 games I taste. So I am anxiously awaiting game completion.

A neat twist on 4x that focuses mainly on pre-warp city building technology. Very strong emphasis on planning ahead, exploring planets before colonizing them and identifying key sites for resource location and efficiency for cities.

It seems like you will be mostly battling your own population (either against the economy or morale) for the first part of the game before you even ecounter anyone else. Definitely not a "grab every planet and available spot in sight" type of game but big rewards for placing cities intelligently and conservatively.

It's a 4x game with a refreshing twist. Still in Alpha and it shows at times but definitely enjoyable in its current state and should only get better with more updates.

Ok, really first look after 2 hours. It is impressing. Also it is noticable an indie game, but that's also charming in my eyes. If all 4X games look and feel the same...where should be the difference? The UI is sufficient, while I might have preferred a switch for hex-view. Probably it's allready there and I didn't find. Hm...
First I've done a short tutorial, which answered most question, but left me with some more. It's kind of try-and-error in my first game, but all buildings could be replaced. Game gets you into one-more-turn hype.

Summary it's more weighted toward building up planets, cities and colonys then just counting your planets and ships. Yeah, it's more into micromanagement. So far I'm pleased about...don't know how I think after some more hours. No doubt, it is Early Access, so you have to be sure about. Some hard edges are there, no question. But the small company brings up fresh new ideas, which other titles like Galactic Civilization 3 or else are so deeply needing.

It's fun to play and to explore all mechanism to prosper. First I thought it's only singleplayer, but InGame I found a multiplayer button (currently not working, but...). So I guess it is a good time to invest some bucks and grab it while on sale. Those devs do a good job, seem reliable and are really interested into our feedback.

--- Update ---

After some hours testing arround I ran into some gamebraking bugs. Well, game is on very very early access from my view. If you buy it, you are some kind of beta-tester. You should know and accept this. Do like some new ideas which this game came up with and looking forward to see (and influent with my response) patches the other year.

Still think the game has good potential and like the way devs hold contact toward the customers. So I stay with thumbs up...if you realize what you get atm.

So since they had a 25% discount for the next few days, I decided to pick up this game. It is in the alpha stages so this is my impressioins of that so far. I will add more comments as I learn more about this game. So far I have liked what I have seen of the game. I have spent the first hour or so (No tutorials for me!) diving into building up my little planet and researching the technologies for warp space travel. I have not even got that far! So far all I keep doing is restarting the game figuring out how to optimize my planets production/research etc.. I have enjoyed doing that, it seems very well designed. It is obviously missing some graphics, but it does not detract from my enjoyment of the process. If the rest of the game is as well designed as the planet as a resource model I have high hopes for this game. Will add more to comments as I get further into the game.

I'm terrible at leaving reviews but this game has captured me like no 4x since sid meiers civ. I've been playing this as it develops through alpha and it's been a great experience. Devs are active in updates and discussion boards, gameplay is unique, and most importantly it's just fun to play. Hell i could play a map without opponents and spend hours just exploring and developing my different stars/worlds/trade routes/cities. Don't get me wrong there's still work to be done and rough edges that need rounding but all the ideas are there and the implementation feels natural, like I'm actually running a growing galactic empire instead of playing a game on a screen.

With the last version of this game I was satisfied for an Early Access Game.
I had 18 hours fun and it was stable enough. (I don't remember any crashes
or game-breaking bugs)

What I liked most is that the mechanics feel fresh for turn-based 4x games.
Love it to start in the Pre Warp Era (a setting, you can also start later), first
caring for the main planet, finding the right city layout for the 4 cities you
got on each planet and racing to the next era in order to colonize more
planets. It's really well done.

The only thing I was a bit disappointed about, was that there were absolutly
no news on steam and there were no updates.

But whoooo! Today my steam account loaded a new version of this game,
and it's not just a small bugfix. There's a new major feature (trade routes)
and as i started I realized that the game mechanics were refined and i have
to learn new tactics and it adds some extra spice.

I think this dev-team does it right, not a small update every 2 weeks, with
potential problems that afford hotfixes.
No they take there time and then boooom, there comes something new.
For my part I'm satisfied again.

Really wish them the best and that they have enough funds to realize
this project.

If you wonder that my gametime doesn't go above 18 hours this time,
I convinced two of my friends to play ESO with me, and if i dive into
a new game, especially an mmo, i focus on that one.

So far, this game is actually really good. The colony side is fun, simple enough to be easy to learn, complex enough to have plenty of room for strategy and, hopefully they'll expand it even more. The space aspect is also pretty good in it's early state, but is a bit bare boned (which is to be expected)

The only complaints I have is the technology screen, to me, it feel like it's restricted, and some of the technologies that you have to choose the one over the other seem to not be comparable trade off's. And of some of those technologies (the difference between solar/geothermal/wind and wave) are not explained well in terms of their bonuses and their negatives
And my other complaint is the UI. There have been several points where I right click to cancel/back out of something and it brings up a radial menu. And the spatial map could need some improvment when it comes to ship movement and the general going into and out of the planet/orbit/space view.

One thing that I'm hoping that they'll look into is ground combat. So far as I've seen they've mentioned nothing of the sort, but I would like to see them do something with it, maybe along the lines of loading up troopships with units and landing them on the planet to overwhelm the planet defenders, have orbital ships provide bombardment, and have certain spaceships be able to land and be naval ships

If you ever loved spore space stage like me, looking for something as in depth as going to planets to build individual cities, colonizing and or conquering galaxies. You may love this game.

If you wanna participate in what seems like a pretty badass game in the making, buy. if not wait.

Start out in "civilzation" stage and work up to "space" stage.

I only put a little time into it, thats kinda what I'm seeing so far, havent made it to space stage, hoping its as satisfying as the planet managment.

Nice simple layout of all the important bits. Some things would be easier if right click canceled current action, or backed out of city view. Could use a mouse wheel zoom function as well.

They say they are working on adding models to city buildings rather than the little hexes.

so far pretty fun, just got tired of the red line rendering bug. gonna give it a few days.
