One of the BEST point and click adventure games of all time. The voice acting and writing are a masterclass in storytelling. The pacing is also perfect for those with busy schedules, as each chapter is about the length of a TV show episode. If you combine the genres of comedy, drama, horror, fantasy, mystery, murder, and the supernatural with complex fascinating and layered power dynamics... THIS is what you get. If you are a Scorpio, you will probably LOVE this game.
This is probably the closest thing to a Superhero Team point-and-click adventure game. You have team members, they have powers, you work together, you solve "cases" and grow as individuals.
I'm one of those individuals that has a paralyzing fear that my choices will result in an unsatisfying result or ending. But some of my favorite "choices matter" games have satisfying paths or endings no matter what I pick. To that end, in my mind, I categorize these games as “choices don't matter”, because whatever I pick, I will have a good time. And let me tell you, I had a GREAT time (38 hours of playing as of this review).
Can you pick a choice that will result in your characters death? Yes, but then it just rewinds 5 seconds earlier and you're good to go again. No pressure of losing all your progress.
I've played this game by myself and with others over zoom (shared screen), the latter being my favorite way to play. With friends, it's great to play "popcorn" and switch who reads the protagonist's dialogue (and sometimes the antagonist!) for that scene, letting the reader pick the direction the story goes.
After multiple playthroughs, I am still seeing and hearing things that I didn't witness on previous runs and unlocking new achievements. The music and artwork are great (especially when a character is talking and you see their big detailed portrait).
This game has done so much to go above and beyond my expectations, that I can't think of any criticisms. In it's place I will instead list some wishful thinking thoughts. I realize that the amount of voice acting and writing that went into this game was Colossal already, so taking these with a grain of salt: I wish I had more playtime with Vicky's character in the earlier missions. I wish there were a few more team members to add to the roster. I wish there was a sequel, or prequel or any kind of spin off (maybe playing as another branch of the Unavowed).
I RECOMMEND UNAVOWED !!
Amazing Game + Story !!
Adventure, Story-Rich, Supernatural, Mystery, Detective, Atmospheric, Magic, Dark-Fantasy
One of the best point and click games I have ever played
I do like the story to be honest, and the game.
But the ethic/logic behind it is ridiculous to put at least.
All cases bear a very interesting ethical ground, the very first demon, who will kill and feast
without a sec of hesitation. But when i decided to kill it, i am accused? The captain, who
gladly offered dozen people as sacrifices (not to mention other crimes),
i mere suggest she should face the same fate as those she sacrificed , but again, i am the
one to be accused?
Then the old men who killed/killing people, and does not bare one ounce of remorse, but i am
the cold blood one to take him out?
I only found Jordan to be the solo victim who shouldn't bear any retribution, others, one death
is not enough.
But there are 2 cases, makes the interesting ethical ground dangerously hypocritical, or as
double standard.
One, "you killed my father, you deserve a slow death". suddenly no one is accusing me of
delivering such death.
Second, " you touch my family, you die" Again, suddenly no one is crying why take out a life?
Excuse me, really? The culprits from both cases most certainly deserves death, but family
become a golden ticket to justify the death i delivered now? Where are the accusations?
where is the "i shouldn't kill them"? I only wish other victims had family, so they could use the
golden tickets too.
I dont mind people holding a high ethical ground, but i do mind people selectively enforce it as
double standards.
Unavowed grabbed me with its urban fantasy setting and held me with its twisting narrative. Wadjet Eye Games crafted a perfect blend of supernatural mystery and character-driven storytelling that constantly surprised me. The time-bending puzzles feel clever rather than obtuse, and your choices throughout actually matter. The ending was brilliant - no spoilers, but it stuck with me long after the credits rolled. Can't wait to see what this studio does next.
gutes game muste aber eine lösung vom start bis ende nutzen da die rätsel relativ schwer sind.
Wonderful point and click adventure game with great puzzles, engaging characters and a winding plot. Highly recommended, as with all of their games.
Brilliant game, compelling dialogue and great characters. Can't wait to try out other WadjetEye titles.
I'm embarrassed to say that I bought this game years ago and attempted to play it twice but got overwhelmed by the intro and decided to play it later. I'm so glad I decided to play it again and oh my god I've missed so much in the previous years! The game starts off with an intense scene where one of the characters is trying to snap you out of your haze, asking you questions about who you are and what you've been doing before the demon possessed you. You'll get the option to choose between a man or a woman, a name for yourself, and the interesting part is that when you choose your past profession, each choice will play a different origin story. The choices are:
- Actor
- Police Officer
[*]Bartender
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3450641758
After choosing, you'll start a short flashback of what you were doing before the point of being possessed. After that, you'll meet the first two companions of the unvawed, and you'll learn that they are a society who are working together to stop evil. Every case will give you a glimpse into your companion's life and what they were before joining the Unavowed. After meeting the four companions, you'll get the option to choose who will accompany you in the next case. You can only choose two, and each companion has a unique skill and encounter, as they'll give you their insight and have a different approach to solving any puzzle.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3452150441
As with any point-and-click game, you will converse with people and solve puzzles, but this game is huge. The story branches, and each decision you take has consequences you'll see through your gameplay. Depending on your choices, your companions could join you or not in the final battle.
I'm in love with the artwork, the portraits, and the whole graphics of the game; they are so smooth and beautiful, and even the reflections on water are mesmerising. The voice acting is really good; most of the voice actors did an outstanding job. KayKay is so cute, and Kalash and his daughter Mandana have the best voices of all. The soundtrack is nice and fitting; none of it sounded repetitive or annoying.

Pros:
+Amazing story with different routes.
+Beautiful soundtracks.
+Well-done voice-over.
+Outstanding and detailed pixel art + Beautiful character portraits.
+Choice of your character's background (Total of three)
+Choice between a male or female character.
+Manual + Automatic save files.
+Hinting system (Asking your companion what to do next)
+Multiple endings (Total of four)
+Steam achievements.
Cons:
- Some of the voices have lower quality than the others.
The writing of the game is phenomenal. The replay value is high, as you have four different endings and six scenarios to choose from. The game is very well made, and you can see the love poured into it. I highly recommend it.

The game that started my love for point-and-click adventure games. Urban fantasy is an overdone genre these days, but Unavowed has the creative chops to make it feel fresh and unpredictable. The world feels lived-in, grounded, real; your characters are a sharply realized, colorful ensemble who'll want to see more of after you reach the end.
easy but fun
I've been meaning to play this for years, finally got around to it. Puzzles are mostly logical, so no really bizarre answers like old King's Quest point and clicks. Story is good, urban fantasy type, which I enjoyed a lot, and oh... one of the best things is that all the puzzles can be solved no matter who is in your party. I enjoyed this enough that I'm going to go back and 100% it.
Great story, cool pixel art, and smart puzzles. No stupid solutions like in many other point-and-click games. Recommended
So so good, great world building, dialogue and puzzles!
A lovely Point And Click adventure game featuring one of my favourite twists in any media ever.
Excellent game.
Splendid voice acting as usual for Wadjet Eye, save for the owner of that bagel store who got a bit too close to the mic. But he doesn't talk much anyway.
This game is a spiritual (heh) successor to the Blackwell series. This means it's a wild ride involving the occult, New York, some light to medium challenge puzzles with not much moon logic, lots of dialog (all voiced!) and great retro pixel art. It's got a fantastic soundtrack too!
Just like Blackwell, it also comes with some hard decisions and sad moments. And there is not really what I'd consider a good ending.
Some of the characters are a bit flat, but they're all likable and unique.
Anyway, play this game!

Amazing point and click game
Great writing, strong characters, wonderful modern P&C adventure set in an urban fantasy world. Great morality choices to make that echo back in satisfying ways. The puzzles are pretty straightforward and not overly complicated, if that's what you're looking for!
My favourite of the Wadjet Eye games. May invite a second or third playthrough.
Edit: I actually confused this game with Avowed and thought this was what people were talking about. A beneficial mix-up because it seems Avowed is mid, and this game was not.
This was the first game I had a chance to play after the birth of my daughter. It took me 15 weeks to finish an 8 hour story. An odd way to start the next chapter, but a good one.
I grew up on point-and-click adventures with good, compact stories. This game was no different. The adventure was still there, the puzzles were still there, all with modern-but-stylized graphics and solid voice acting. There weren't many, barely any, soft-locks that were staples of PNC adventures from decades ago, but it didn't take away from the experience. I was invested in the story and found the many plot-based morality choices difficult. You are also able to experience multiple endings based on the choices you make, and can reload a save to see several in a few minutes.
I don't typically replay games so I missed a lot of achievements that I'm sure would dictate more of the story, but I feel like for people that do play games that way, there is some replayability given the gravity of the morality system at times. This game was worth my money and I would recommend it just the same to other PNC fans.
Another classic from Wadjet Eye.
While I haven't actually finished this game yet, I am enjoying my time with it a lot. The story and characters are interesting and the puzzles are challenging but not so much so that it gets annoying. Not only that, the entire game is voice acted (not a given with these types of games) and quite well too, in my opinion. I also really like the art style - and this comes from someone who isn't really that into pixel art style in games.
So all in all, I'm glad I finally took the time to play this game after letting it sit in my Steam library for months. I will probably edit my review a bit once I have actually finished the game, but so far so good and I'd totally recommend this one if you're in for an interesting supernatural mystery to solve.
Definitely better than Avowed
Unavowed is probably the best-in-genre of old school 90s adventure games. The art feels like a direct sequel to Ken and Roberta Williams, and the story feels like it's set in the Gabriel Knight universe.
This includes the crappy parts. Tumbler lock puzzles, combining items, order-of-operation NPC questlines, backtracking, B-movie story - the whole meal deal is included in this. The sharp edges have been rounded to be as gentle as possible and the built-in hint system in NPC dialogue works great. So it's the most enjoyable game of its type, with a refreshing sincerity in all its chapters if you can get past the cheese.
Buena historia, demasiado facil.
Fantastic game. I really enjoyed the story and style.
Good story, good game. Worth it at full price, though I don't regret waiting for a sale since I will probably not replay it (though it def has replayability; I just personally don't rly replay narrative-heavy games). Many QoL improvements over older games in this genre, which is appreciated.
Nice setting but I find the stories and plots a bit boring. I liked Blackwell much more.
Good game.
Rich plot and pretty logical puzzles so far. If you liked Blackwell - the same vibe, if you never played - start with Blackwell, this game contains some references :)
As far as an Adventure Game Studio creation goes it has an incredibly heart warming and engaging branching story, fun script with good characters as well as decent puzzles. There's still a bit of pixel hunting and some frustrating puzzles. It wouldn't be an AGS game without them. All in all worth a play and thoroughly recommend.
Point and click fantasy noir. What's not to like?
Fun!
Why are you here reading this? Go play the damn game!
I played Unavowed when it came out, replayed again to give a review.
Wadjet Eye Games is a great company for the P&C and story telling genres. With every game they make, they get better.
They're also great at story telling with supernatural story lines.
Unavowed is another great dark game, and why are you here reading this? Go play.
I like how you can bring different character every time and learn to solve the things different ways.
David's story telling is always brilliant, and I always wait for a new game to see what they do next.
If you've played the Blackwell Series I like how they brought back two characters from that- {spoilers]KayKay (Kendra) and Sam Durkin.[/spoiler]
So I like how they can add different characters from different games into their new games.
Unavowed WILL require you to play at least twice to get all the achievements.
This game can play a bit wonky and bit really confusing at times, but again sometimes this can be simplified depending on the characters you bring with you during each investigation.
The only real issue is- yes alot of the voices are recorded better, but they still have voice recorded issues, this has been an issue throughout all of their games though so this is nothing new.
Sometimes random characters sound like they're trying to eat the mic, which again is an issue in most of their games.
Does some very interesting things and doesn't overstay its welcome. I liked it.
Curto, mas profundo. Trata histórias com maturidade e de forma extremamente criativa. Recomendação absoluta para qualquer um que gosta de mistério.
Started kinda slow, but really picked up.
It has a pretty good story and a good ability to make impactful choices.
Although it was mostly simple, there were some creative challenges that made it enjoyable.
Unavowed was sitting in my backlog for quite a while and *man* I wish I'd gotten to it sooner. I was expecting a fairly standard pixel art graphic adventure and so was surprised at how Unavowed hooked me. An interesting story with some twists and turns, characters that you gradually grown to learn about and love over the course of the game, gorgeous art and some great VA supporting it all.
I've got Wadjet Eye Games next game 'Old Skies' wishlisted and will be exploring their other titles in their catalogue.
Underrated gem
A real demonstration of what this engine can do. Great writing and beautiful visuals, truly top Dave Gilbert and Wadjeteye work.
Nice little romp.
perfect story, best soundtrack ever!
Really enjoyed this game. Will have to get the other Wadjet Eye games as well, I believe this is the first one I've played by them but this was really well done. Gameplay wise it's a pretty simple point and click game, kind of a streamlined version of the old school point and click games, which I liked.
Story was very good, the voice acting was excellent and for me is what really brought everything together. After playing through several times, this game is more like a good book that you get to know the characters, was a bit sad to reach the ending the first time, but the story was nicely wrapped up. Hopeful for a sequel still, even though it's been several years.
10/10
very well designed click adventure game
I absolutely loved this game. I would love a follow up. I now check every so often if wadjet eye games has comes out with anything new hoping it will be as good at this game. So far I have played all their similar style games but this one reignited the joy I had for video games like this as a kid. I would definitely recommend this game if you loved old Sierra and Lucas Film type point and click games growing up.
It is a good narrative story that really picks up in interest in the second half. I found it overall slightly boring: however, my expectation was that this was a point-and-click adventure predicated on solving a lot of puzzles. It is not. The puzzles are self-evident and mostly involve fulfilling dialogue options. The story is creative and has a wonderful sort of twist. It is cozy and I think would be a fun game to play with a friend, but it was not very exciting.
Im not a huge player of point and click games but this one is the best I have ever played by far. The story and characters are very good, both with a lot of depth and unexpected turns. The riddles arent to easy and more importantly always logical and intuitive. Voiceacting was also great.
I very strongly recommend this game.
Very Easy but nice old school adventure
