This suburban Tokyo ward's seen it all, from Japan's post-war reconstruction to the economic bubblegum crisis of the '80s. Always on the cutting edge of progress, with a little something to offer even the most fetishistic of appetites, it was almost inevitable that this singular technocracy of indulgence would give birth to a whole new kind of appetite altogether.
Enter, the “Synthisters” – vampires who prey upon the life energy of the town’s unsuspecting figurine-chasers, maid café connoisseurs and cosplayers. Those victimized by Synthisters take on the properties of their attackers while also withdrawing from society and becoming veritable shut-ins due to their newfound fatal weakness to sunlight.
AKIBA’S TRIP tells the story of one such unfortunate soul: a young man named Nanashi who was lured into a trap by the promise of rare character goods and transformed into one of the walking undead. He, however, was spared the worst of his fate by the bloody kiss of a mysterious Synthister hunter named Shizuku. Together with the rest of his companions in an organization unofficially dubbed the “Akiba Freedom Fighters,” Nanashi and Shizuku must uncover the truth behind the Synthister plague and save Akiba from being overrun by violent, antisocial energy vampires.
And of course, the best way to fight vampires is to strip them down to their skivvies so they melt in the noonday sun…

this is a bad port get the Playstation version. it's basically the console game with a launcher bolted onto it and even after all the patching it still has some bugs and crash issues. like the in game advertising that appears on the TV screens has to be turned off in the launcher otherwise the game will crash before you even reach the start screen
i woudn't recommend this as the first experience for this game, if you have a PS4 play it on there, that is the best version hands down
if not on Playstation it's also on switch and that's basically the only way to play it on the go. steam deck is incompatible
so the PC version should be your last resort.
unplayable without a gamepad
This game is gooner simulator. 11/10 would play again
It's... Different. I mean it's your stereotypical anime-esque rpg don't get me wrong but instead of a standard turn based design and 4 man party they used a weird (and fairly clunky) arcade beat em up style combat system with at most one team member where clothing is the health bar and you win fights by literally stripping the opposition.
a very strange game but also oddly charming if it hooks you, you're a loot goblin obsessed with figurines that gets turned into, and roped into fighting, pseudo vampires. which i'm guessing was the excuse to make a beat em up where you strip down enemies to their tighty whiteys (sunlight and all that). the dialogue is fairly light hearted and joking, the characters aren't particularly deep but they don't need to be either, all in all the game has a pretty niche target audience and is a fun little one off that you can sink some hours into for a decent price especially on sale.
If you're expecting a deep game of the year contending masterpiece or anything even close to it you'd be disappointed but if you happen to be an anime/japan nerd, aren't bothered by fan service (because it's like most of the game), and just want a game that does its own thing to kill time with/ see a bit of akiba from that time period it's not a bad choice by any means. I at least have a soft spot for it given I got platinum at some point on the playstation way back when.
Post Clear Edit: having cleared it again I'd just like to tack on some additional points, The game is fairly short with your initial run being the longest and still likely less than 20 hours, total you'll probably get 40-50ish hours of content out of it if you wanna do plat and be done with it.
Additionally I just wanna stress the faults of the battle system so no one reading this feels like I under or over sold it, I don't know if my reflexes have worsened or if there's worse inputs on the steam port or if I just don't remember how rough this game really was but it regularly felt like I was dealing with input latency or missed inputs altogether and would drop combos or have some problems in combat because of it. that said it isn't particularly difficult or trying either just know you're not gonna get the optimum experience this game should offer combat wise.
Lastly there are a few weird soft-lock bugs where talking to npcs, specifically flyer girls, will trap you into convo if you approach wrong or double tap interact or the like. the game auto saves between each area so it's really only minutes lost at most but I thought it was worth mentioning specifically because I don't remember it in the initial console release.
This game was incredibly fun! I loved the story and the characters. The combat system is engaging and enjoyable, offering a nice challenge on higher difficulties without feeling overwhelming. Oh, and Shion is definitely the best girl!
🉐 Akiba is a modest but cozy living world, frozen in its time. Crowds of people, a very simple plot, lots of loot, good customization and fun / engaging combat. Unfortunately, despite more spacious locations, a choice of finishing animations, as well as the ability to fully customize the visuals (line thickness, lighting shades, etc.), the sequel is inferior to the first game in many ways. Instead of choosing a side, there is only a choice of a girl for the ending (which essentially doesn't change the plot), there are fewer freak cosplayers (and therefore less unique equip), missions of all types are quite dull / monotonous (patrolling the streets in any situation!), and the characters have almost no time in the script. All this doesn't make the game bad, but clearly more was expected (in terms of the scale, this is more of an alternative story DLC). The latest patch has slightly fueled new interest, but is unlikely to be particularly pleasing, since instead of refining the menus or adding more gameplay features / stuff (there aren't even achievements for the new "route"), the devs decided to engage in verbal censorship (in favor of trendy nonsense), despite the fact that the game's disclaimer warns that this is a project of its time.
Played this on the PS3 back in the day and the port seems to be running smoothly enough, so I'll say my piece with a bit of 2025 POV.
Really dumb fun game with janky controls from the first half of the 2010s when being interested in anime, manga, and certain genres of Japanese games had only started to be considered less niche, but still niche, imo.
Times have changed though. Anime and manga have become more popular than ever, Japanese video games are lagging behind a little, but interest is still growing. And some places within Akiba'sTrip have begun ceasing to exist, with a number of the iconic buildings of Akihabara having their stores and arcades shuttered in the last 5 years.
Games can usually be a snapshot of the available technologies of an era, what genres or experimentation existed, what trends there were in gaming. Very rarely, in feel, do games manage to be a snapshot (even if an accident) of a time within living memory.
I've always wanted to go the the Akihabara that Akiba'sTrip was modeled after, and it's kinda sad that I'll never be able to see the same Akihabara that I had once dreamed of when I was much younger, even if it is mostly intact to this day IRL.
So, it's a cool game from an IRL experience stand point, how about the gameplay?
Dumb fun jank. It's really bad at times, down right uncontrollable if not also sometimes unfair, but it's also really funny as heck as a result. It's also a risk management game where you can choose to whether to guarantee stripping a singular piece of clothing or keep multiple enemies intact with all their clothing disheveled for a sick a strip combo.
Disheveling and then stripping the clothing of people/vampires in order to defeat them rather than the usual "smack until dead" of other games gives a sense of accomplishment when you manage to strip two-digit pieces of clothing in a stripping combo QTE, which sounds dumb as heck until you realize that it requires a lot of awareness of the clothing "health", enemy positioning and weapons, and your own survival against enemies you haven't defeated yet because you want them alive for that sick stripping combo.
Your mileage may vary with the story and comedy, but personally I had fun. Vampires taking over Akihabara unseen is such an incredibly dumb premise, and how that ends up being the number one enemy of a group of primarily otaku vigilantes is just so absurd and yet they make it somehow work.
Get it on a sale if you have the money and time to spare. It's not for everyone, but it's a game I have a very soft spot for how it taught me the physical spaces in Akiba.
.
you can get away with Stelling people panties 10/10
Played this game through once on PC.
Tried to replay again on Steam Deck OLED to bring me back to my Vita days.
No audio, videos play upside down. booooooo
Surprised by how much I like this game. The story and characters are fun, and it has a great soundtrack. Combat is a bit rough around the edges, but still fun. Def worth picking up whenever it goes on sale.
AKIBA'S TRIP: Undead & Undressed is a quirky and unique blend of action, humor, and Akihabara culture. Its playful combat and eccentric story make it a fun, if niche, experience for fans of Japanese pop culture.
game starts up but then crashs after the XSEED logo which is disappointing for PC port
Very funny. I played it for 11 hours straight on the first day.
Interesting game and it looks like it's fun.
Unfortunately, this is a poor PC port which also happens to crash pretty often.
Had to refund.
The game won't launch at all.
It always forced close before I get to see the opening video, let alone play the game.
I'm using i5 nvdia geforce mx 130. Windows 11.
Idk if its a bug or maybe the game just too old so it doesn't support windows 11?
I tried to run it using compatibility mode and other things but none seems to works for me.
Hope it can be fixed, I really wish to play this game again 🥲
Love this game and it's content. It's a great romp and I recommend it for those who like gameplay like Yakuza.
could not get into this.
better than CS2
One of my childhood game during PS3
unplayable on Steam deck .. sad
Yakuza but with a tighter budget and more fanservice. Fun by yourself, not fun around the homies or any close relatives
Hey the game is fun don’t judge me.
I remember having alot of fun with this game. The arena I remember being pretty fun. If you wanna kill vampires by stripping them. Play this game lol
