Our second game, Vigilantes, a crime themed turn based tactical RPG is available on Steam!A Planet Under Siege
Mars is under siege, and the colonists are fighting a losing battle. Assume the role of Blake, a private security operative who crash lands near the colony of Deadstone, following an outbreak on the Icarus space station. Care to guess who just landed the job of sheriff? To survive, you’ll need to use your combat expertise and lethal firepower to overcome an unrelenting enemy, but to win, you’ll need a strategy. Every time an infected slips through your defensive net, a colonist dies. Can you save the colonists of Deadstone?
Two Distinct Game Modes
Decide the fate of Deadstone’s colonists in the story driven, 50 mission Campaign, or find out just how long death can be cheated in Survival Mode.Campaign
Deploy defences, choose your weapons and equipment, and get into the fight. Experience nerve wracking battles against the insidious infected threat across 3 mission types: Patrol, Arena, and Colonist Rescue.Survival
Jump right into the fight with Survival Mode. Build your character, select your load out, and fight it out for the highest score until the bitter end. Death, however, does not spell defeat: it makes you stronger, gaining additional starting resources based on performance.Bring a Friend
Experience the Campaign and Survival Mode with a pal in local co-op. Note: A control pad is required for co-op play. The Xbox 360 wired controller is officially supported, however most controllers should work.Play Your Way
Develop the ultimate fighter with the unfortunately acronymed S.C.A.M. system, comprising 4 primary stats (Speed, Constitution, Accuracy, Mechanics), 11 secondary stats, and 70 perks.Face an Evolving Enemy
Confront 6 different enemies, including the soldier, commander, and the fearsome phase shambler. Contend with an enemy that attacks under the cover of night and dust storm, and even burrows under the surface to ambush you.Defensive Hardware
Deploy mines and 4 types of turret to create a defensive line. Upgrade your turrets’ stats, and research completely new abilities for them, including the Kinetic Thumper, which releases recoil energy into a shockwave to push infected back.Tools of the Trade
Spend your hard earned credits expanding your arsenal. Choose from 16 upgradable weapons from 4 classes: pistol, shotgun, automatic, precision, and complement your selection with 6 equipment types, including flares, explosives, and armor.Twin Tales
Experience two engaging stories, or play without if you’re just here for the action. Choose between a straight up survival narrative and a tongue-in-cheek take on events.Fight to Win
Compete on online leader boards for the top spot.Casual to Hardcore: Deadstone has 6 difficulty settings, to accommodate varying levels of skill.

A bit similar to Sang Froid, this is a game where you build your character stats and equipment & place mines and turrets which will help you defend your line.
Horrific.
Clunky controls, slow, plodding menus and dialogue. The graphics are worse than a grade-school comic book drawn by a kid. They're insultingly bad.
There's just nothing here to enjoy. This would have been an OK game in 1978. Playing it in 2022 is unconscionable.
This is a fun little game that delivers with reliable game play and a somewhat cliche but still engaging story.
My Secret Guilty Pleasure, What does this zombie wave game has that hasn't been done before or better? IDK but when i feel the need to chill and pu my brain on zero output and want to still blast things, i always come back to this little title.
i recomand for the price, just don't expect anything you haven't seen before, Spoilers!!! Zombies on mars you somehow become the sherif or security guard of said town as no one else seems to know how to fight, you'll slowly get help from the locals that'll in turn give you access to more better War goodies to kill yet more zombies and therefore allowing everyone to live another day to blow up moreeeeeee Zombies!
Simple cheap fun. The developer is pretty active in the forums so that's nice to see, and admits this first game is a bit primitive. It's a shoot-em-up where you are a single character taking on waves of zombies. It's pretty mindless fun for a couple hours. There are some RPG elements to help you keep pace with the increasing challenge and if you build up your turret capability, it's even got a little tower defense in it. There's also a survival mode.
I got this game in a bundle with the developer's second title, Vigilantes, which is the one I really wanted, but figured I'd give Deadstone a shot. Play on the easy difficulty and you can finish the campaign (45 missions) in under 8 hours. It's not great by modern standards, but a quick diversion. On to Vigilantes!
Only a short way in I feel, but this is a simple but fun game, with a nice story and upgrades galore.
The core game play is that you have a guy defending a small area from zombie like creatures. You have a pistol, though you can buy a few more guns as things progress, and eventually a few defensive devices like mines and turrets.
In addition your character gets to increase his few stats, and earn perks to personalize the play style.
Not much more to it than that, but it all seems pretty solid. Nothing fancy, just fun simple and straightforward.
Easy to recommend.
ADDENDUM: Finished it on the easiest setting in 7.5 hours. I think I got my moneys worth. Want to go back and try again harder.
there are some good times to be had. the story is well done, very well done even. good voice acting.
i do wish the dev would fix a few of the controller glitches. like the co-op being a bit goofed.
but over all. gg.
Deadstone is a simple game that's deeper than it appears to be, but ultimately, how much that RPG elements added to the character is a bit suspect.
Basically, you play a mercenary who were forced to evacuate Icarus station over Mars. You made your way to the Deadstone colony, and it seems to be attacked by... zombies. Initially, there is only you, and a pistol, and you have to be accurate and fast to make sure there are no leakers. Every leak means one death in the colony. Too many leaks and you have no colony left. Later, you get mines, then turrets. Then different types of turrets (sniper, auto, shotgun, etc.) plus enhancements like auto-repair, autoloader (no need to reload manually), thumper (knocks back attacking enemies), self-destruct (takes out enemies before dying), etc. You also get later access to SMG and LMG, shotgun, and sniper rifle, multiple models of each. Personally, I'd stick with SMG/LMG all the way.
The terrain doesn't vary, as you are defending a colony. Though periodically, you get a "rescue" mission, where you need to survive for two to three minutes against all comers, but you may get a few turrets to help. You also periodically get an "arena" mission, where you don't get any turrets, but you can mvoe around a lot and hopefully, survive for about 3 minutes.
Enemies get deadlier. First, it's just zombies, then zombie dogs, then command-type (rallies other zombies), then soldier-type (with guns), dogs with dynamite packs, and finally, phasing shamblers (short distance teleport). And you usually kills a few hundred at a time. To take them out, you have guns, mines, and turrets. You have unlimited pistol ammo, but you are limied in carrying MG ammo, rifle ammo, or shotgun ammo. And you *can* run out.
The game turns into RPG in that you have four main stats: CONstitution, ACCuracy, SPeeD, and MEChanical aptitude. Speed affects how fast you more, and your sprint speed, CON afffects your HP and how long you can sprint, and how big fo a gun you can wield (some of the heaviest guns require CON=12), ACC affects how accurate your shooting is, and MEC affects how many mines and turrets you can place. With MEC=12 I was able to to put down 18 minutes and 4 turrets. I'd imagine you can go to 5 turrets if you want to go that high.
In practice, the ACC rating affects bullet spread and chances for critical hits, which doubles damage. But if you have enough bullets, or have one of the abilities to scrounge up more bullets, then it won't break your bank. As you don't get the extra weapons and whatnot for free. You earn 'credits" after each mission, usually based on kills and how many colonists you saved. CON basically controls which gun you get to use. While the best LMG requires CON=11, you don't need it to survive. It's just nice to have.
Some fo the perks are a bit tongue in cheek, and some of them are just replicating attribute gains. Some of the more memorable ones include DEATH ROBOT, which gives you a sidekick that has its own weapons and will shoot enemies in range automatically, and follows you around. Another would be auto-loot, where the powerups you gained from shooting enemies dead, will come to you automatically, instead of you run over them to collect. There are dozens of perks to choose from, and depending on your stats, more can be enabled as you go along.
So what's the problem? The narrative, while scientifically accurate, is also a bit of a snoozer (as in boring). Perhaps that's why they also included a farcical alternate narrative as a bonus alt campaign. Also, the defense mission do get a bit old. Another complaint would be inability to move turrets... You can only demolish (which loses 25% of 1000 spent, before upgrades) and rebuild.
There really is no "strategy" per se. Once you get turrets, things got easier, but not that easy. Turrets can be damaged or even destroyed. Placement is crucial. Turrets don't have the engagement range that you do, so you will be doing most of the killing any way. Mines barely slow the zombies down, but any help is better than no help.
ALl in all, the game is simple, effective, and provided hours of entertainment. For those who want more challange, there are muliple levels of difficulty to chosoe for the main campaign, as well as challenge yourself in survival mode. There's even Ironman (single savegame) mode.
Sorry to say it so boldly, but this is a pretty bad game. The missions are boring and repetitive, the artwork is downright horrible, and the gameplay just plain sucks. For a game that came out in 2014, even if it's 2d, it's a really poor game lacking content; It's not interesting to play even for the wonky storyline.
Having fun with this on ubuntu linux. Pretty simple, repetitive twinstick gameplay combined with some nice upgrade paths and a decent story. Good for a few laughs, but becomes very dull after a short while.
There is a super extensive upgrade system that would be great for another game, but with the the lackluster gameplay here, it is hard to imagine playing enough to explore many of the upgrade tree branches.
Nice indie game, mix of tower defense and top down shooter. Fun for coop play and fine solo. You'll level up your character, upgrade and buy weapons and equipment, and build a custom gameplay with perks.
For the price asked you'll get a lot of enjoyment from your money.
This is a really enjoyable game! Great price, too, I recommend it if you're into both twin-stick shooters and tower defense games. It's essentially a hybrid of the two genres, done very well I'd add, with gunplay that reminds me of Teleglitch in some ways (or maybe Neon Chrome). The writing is heads and tails above most indie games, most tower defense games period, and literally every twin stick shooter I've ever played. Though it also has a goofy mode that makes the story more farcical, and a no-story mode for a much more arcade feel.
I actually get a Fallout vibe from the text exchanges in this game, and I'm not talking Bethesda's games, I mean the original. This is high praise.
The gameplay is well balanced and there are a number of ways to succeed depending on how you develop your character and the gear you choose to bring into battle. I'm currently playing it with emphasis on the twin-stick aspect by getting my Speed and Accuracy up, but if you want to go more the TD route you can focus on your Mechanics stat to be able to deploy lots of defenses so you don't have to mop up the creeps as much yourself. I really like this particular freedom of choice for the player.
To the dev, I'm super impressed and this was money well spent. Thanks for the really cool game. To fellow Steam users considering the purchase, I'd say this is a Must Buy for fans of the two genres, even at full price - if you see a sale, nab it!
Overall a rather cute and pleasant game. The controls are smooth, the RPG elements give you interesting synergistic options (in short, are you an 80's Action Hero, Grizzled Demolitions Expert or a Tower Defense Engineer?), and the story has some well-written characters. Shooting zombies feels satisfying, and there are 3 game modes even in the story missions (Patrol, a TD-style; Arena, a survival match; Rescue, what it says on the tin) so it doesn't wear out its welcome. It even has a "Side B" story that's a parody of the main story for added replay value.
I will say I didn't like the enemies growing tougher over time (literally tougher, nothing changed except their HP went up) because it didn't make the game harder, but it DID remove any sense of progress in a lot of the RPG elements. I played on normal, and every time my damage went up, the enemies seemed to increase their HP by an equal amount so that I never felt a sense of progression, but never felt like the enemy was growing harder, either. There are only 5 enemy types; they start off mildly threatening, and thanks to HP growth, they end up mildly threatening by the end as well. I'd also say that the main campaign was wearing out its welcome a bit by the end, you could probably trim 10 days off without really losing a sense of the game's fun. Additionally, the story ended up falling a little flat as you realize it's more a first act of an arc than a complete story, and I kept waiting for a twist that never appeared.
I'm sandwiching my complaints between two positive paragraphs because again, overall, I am quite satisfied with this game. The leveling system was elegant, the weapons satisfying, the controls smooth, and the characters well-written. If you like twin-stick shooters with a pretty heavy RPG component (both in leveling mechanics and having a character-driven story) this game will scratch that itch quite well.
Fun enough to play through once despite the repetition. Too repetitive to get all the achievements.
Cons: the game is short. I finished campaing in 9 hours including restarting once due to incorrect spendings and upgrades. And I don't see any reason to play survival mode or replay the campaign. Probably I return to this game again after several months.
Pros: I was withdrawn from real life for these 9 hours. The game is so addictive, you just can't stop playing... until the campaign is finished and you understand that you had enough of it.
This game ends sooner than becomes boring, which is rare for present-day games.
Considering game's price I highly recommend it and look forward for new games from this developer,
btw I don't see much reason in updating this game more, it's already nearly perfect.
This is a top down shooter with some tower defense and rpg elements. After each wave of enemies you gain experience points an money to level up your charachter. There is a great variety of weapons and perks to select from. The voice acting and the cut scenes are done well. Unfortunatley the sprites and the menu graphics look quite lackluster. The level backgrounds also are very uninspired, have no detail and remind me more of tiled desktop wallpapers from the 90s than anything else. Another weakness of this game are the few enemy types. This makes the gameplay feel very repetitive. On the bright side the developer is still improving the game and listens to suggestions from the players. I'm really a fan of top down shooters and despite the weak points I just mentioned I still had great fun finishing the campaign! The game does enough things right to still make it a cool experience. I'm not sure if I would pay full price for it but if it's on sale and you like the genre give it a try!
A 50 mission game which is 20 missions too long. I was hoping for more maps/enemy models/story development/action!
The cutscene art and voice acting are fantastic, and the RPG elements are solid, but gameplay repetitive and dull and the story stretched out far too thin to make me recommend this game to anyone.
This is a good game for $10. It has a passable story and fairly rewarding progression in terms of perks and upgrades. Don't expect too much depth though. It's more than worth the money if you're getting it with a discount.
Yeah, I'm really enjoying this.
The zombie killing is satisfying and the level up happens at a good rate to keep it interesting.
The weapon selection is nice. THe shotgun could be a little more devistating at close range... is my only gripe.
Would recommend :)
Hybrid of top-down shooter mechanics with a levelling/perk system, and placement of defenses.
Pretty much hits every button for me gameplaywise. I wholeheartedly recommend it if you like the genres in question, and want some arcadey fun.
The writing is solid, the voice acting in the intro is also solid. We're not talking Bioware here, but by the standards of the indie games I've played, both stood out as better than the average Greenlight. While this sounds like faint praise, I was actually quite impressed. When I actually notice the voice acting and writing in a top-down shooter, it means they actually put some worthwhile time into both.
My two recommendations, gameplay wise:
* Provide more information on what your levelling decisions mean. When levelling various stats, or picking certain perks (Headhunter comes to mind) it's slightly harder to make an informed decision than I'd like.
* I have yet to find a use for the first starting guns other than an emergency second clip when my pistol needs reloading. My pistol and shotgun seem to take roughly the same number of shots to put something down. At least the first tier of guns feels underwhelming, especially since you need to pay for ammo.
