I've been a fan since HOMM 3. This one is a good one. The strategy and fighting are intuitive and easy.
Game forces you to use ubisoft connect. There is no way to disable it. You are required to create an account and have it active while playing.
If you don't like bloatware shoved down your throat, don't buy this game even on sale.
!!!
So the game is fun - but holy crap is the learning curve insanely SHARP after the first 3 Maps. Like... Haven map 4 has 3 DEADLY fights coming at you within 4 day turns. So you have to get yourself up and built SUPER fast to survive, so be warned about the Sharp difficulty curve.
Buggy, crashes, slow. Would be a good game if not for all the irritations.
just like Heroes 5 and 6 its bad
Why can't they make a random map generator that doesnt crash my game :(
Beautiful!
I like that fighting games that's so much fun to play that.
Unpopular opinion, the coolest beastiary of all the heroes games
Worst Heroes game ever
I've always been a fan of the Heroes games so I would recommend any version of the game to anyone
It's a worthy continueing of the legendary Heroes of Might and Magic 3, but there is a bug with 3D battles, where you cannot click on units and your need to turn the camera around every time, I didn't like this. Also, there is too much detail in random things in the map, so you cannot really tell what is special on the map, such as resources or a structure you can enter.
wanderfull game
The Necropolis campaign is unplayable--I receive a CTD every time I start the campaign. "Do you want to hear my story, Ivan? Well you won't, because my campaign cannot be played!" SMH. :S
For fans it may be worth it - those who played Heroes of Might and Magic III specially, in the 1990-2000s. For those who do not know the franchise, this is a turn-based strategy game in a Medieval Fantasy World full of magic and monsters. It can also be interesting for traditional tabletop RPG players, since its focus is on a bestiary that is very similar to the ones found in the universe of Medieval role-playing lore.

Regret.
Great game
!!!!!!!!!!!
The game itself is phenomenal. Great graphics, great carry of the lore, great new functions, great UI, great coding for a nice smooth game, and just a really great adventure. I get it, people don't like 3rd party launchers and I understand why. Times have changed though folks, and everyone is competing for your hard earned dollars. Epic games is sitting there trying to compete with steam by giving away free games. The monster steam is the black dragon of this genre; invincible to magic, over 400 health and when it attacks it sprays its fury in a cone shape, damaging multiple creatures in that cone of doom. Not only that, but creatures affected by that attack suffer half damage when they begin their next turn and 25% damage the turn after. There's so many tiny little, intricate and subtle things about this game which really dives into not only having a leveled out hero but choosing which units to utilize based on said hero's current abilities, because you'll definitely be using more than one hero. The tech tree is wild with its depth, yet totally makes sense. The creatures are so well defined and unique but totally work with the lore and are amazingly well balanced. It's a shame that 3rd party launchers exist, and this game itself is a testament about why it's a bad business strategy.
Although the game runs smoothly, you can kind of tell that everything you do (even in a single player campaign), is not locally saved. Everything you do is uploaded and saved through ubisoft. If it's working, (and I personally haven't had any issues yet but I would be upset if I did), then all is good. However, I heard that the launcher and ubisoft in general has had a lot of problems with their execution and maintenance of their platform. I'm not a technical gamer wiz but I'd venture to say that if I wanted to play a single player game I bought; I wouldn't want to have some requirement to be online to play it. Not sure that's the case here, and if it is, that's a damn shame because this game, (especially for HOMM fans), is like HOMM5 with even more features and even more eye candy; even more depth. It's HOMM5 on steroids basically and everything is there that you want to be there; if you're a true fan I guess.
Hats off to the developers and coders and artists and designers and writers and voice actors and everything else I'm too dumb to know about. The game itself is a true masterpiece in the HOMM series and solidifies itself, at least for me, as a solid addition to the series.
This is probably the worst of the heroes of might and magic series. I'm including King's Bounty and those weird one off campaign shovelware titles in that. It's technically okay but somehow managed to lose the magic (pun intended) that made the series great. Play 3, it was the peak.
The game doesn't start, kept crashing. I tried changing the config, tried windows compatibility option. Nothing. Congrats guys!
A solid game, if you like the series.
After literal YEARS fighting with EA about the IMPOSSIBLE labyrinth they demand I go through just to PLAY this POS, I broke down and bought it through their app, and while it was SLIGHTLY easier to navigate to play, it honestly is NOT worth the money or the stress of dealing with in my opinion is the WORST game company in the WORLD!
It's good.
Decent game
Decent, Heroes 3 and 5 were better.
The artwork is inconsistent, the AI is a bit stupid, overall the city designs and UI are pretty decent upgrades from older games but the story and gameplay are mid.
Ubisofr connect can go F itself. No longer able to play game as "Game linked to different account" error message from Ubisoft Connect.
Continue to receive same error even if launching game through Ubisoft Connect
Yet another proof of incompetence of these idiots at Ubisoft, i swear this company is ran by monkeys, game might not start with You being connected to the internet XD
Gave up on the game when game kept crashing in campaign mode for I think Barbarian campaign to enter a building for a challenge.
Requested help to fix this issue years and years ago, but gave up.
I love Heroes of might and magic, finished all the others before this, but could not proceed in this one even restarted the entire campaign 4 times and results was the same.
Not worth effort, sad
the game with the best balanced factions of all HOMMs
The game doesn't start, it needs "UbiSoftConnect", waste of money, thanks for nothing....
have to play it through steam and thoser guys suck balls
Big fun
Terrible!!!! after 9 hours of playing UBISOFT all the sudden wants an activation key WHICH WAS NEVER PROVIDED!!! No activiation code on game both in Ubisoft Launcher as well as Steam launcher. Steam does not supply one in the game management tab and UBISOFT support has been useless saying it's Steam's fault....
Contacted Steam support who refused to refund this game confirming that as long as companies like Ubisoft allow you to play at least 2 hours or own the game for 2 weeks, they are then ALLOWED by Steam to keep your money and lock you out of the game without providing you with an auth code to continue playing.
Wonder how long Steam has promoted such deception and fraud.
This game is awesome, except multiplayer is busted and something tells me they wont be fixing it anytime soon, or ever. Playing solo, awesome game, but this is a broken Multiplayer game. I would give it a neutral if I could, but since multiplayer is broke then I wont be recommending it.
I very much liked the campaign and the stories.
I did not have any trouble with crashes like many others reported. There are some bugs though, e.g. an item that should prolong the duration of buffs instead removing the buff after a random amount of time, or some telegraphed attacks not always hitting the right targets, but nothing game breaking. (just make sure the Haven campaign recognizes that you finished a map before starting the next one.)
The AI is terrible though. Most enemy heroes will not try to attack you effectively. They ride back and forth gathering some items, leaving others. They only attack empty towns but turn around the moment you teleport back into it. They will however attack your roaming heroes if your army is too small.
In fights they will often run into or stay inside aoe/ground effects, so I refrained from using these mostly.
But overall I had lots of fun with the game, the stories are very good.
Good
Forced to use that shitty uplay even when purchased on steam.
Enjoyed the game ,but failed to open achievements with dwarfs ,for some reason the dwarf story comes separate and therefore u cannot have the achievements on steam ,at least this what happened with me .
Solid 6/10
Don't you worry, Despite some negative comments on here regarding the game it can be modded too.... there is a strong might and magic fanbase despite Ubicrap's Blatant Neglect of the franchise.
It's decent, had some fun
Dont let the negative comments draw you away from this game. The game was buggy when relased, but 99% are fixed, and now it is very very playable. If you are true M&M fan, this game is a must have. IMHO, it is THE BEST M&M game so far.
I find myself incredibly mixed regarding the game. On one hand, the factions are cool and varies, the vignettes each have their own tone, I'll get to why I call them vignettes, and the strategic battles and scavenging for artifacts to customize your hero can be fun in a simple kind of way.
I focus on single player and story based aspects of the game versus the online and PVP components as that does not interest me. If you are a story or campaign player this is probably a more appropriate review for you.
Below is the breakdown:
Graphics:
The graphics are a complaint many people seem to have when I looked at other reviews, but I noted, at least in my case, that the ugly grainy graphics is actually the default screen setting, and if changed to full screen you can set it to 4K which looks respectable for the type of game it is. The models for enemies are pretty cool and varied, leaning heavily into each factions such as earth and nature for the elves versus constructs, genies, and wizards on flying carpets for the magic campaign, but the issue is that by and large ranged attacks are almost always superior. Overall, I was pretty happy with it, though I never learned how to turn off the weird blur effect on the campaign map and intro scenes: that part is absolutely awful.
Gameplay:
The gameplay is fairly fun and rewarding as you work your way across the campaign map, and the desire to explore every corner of the map for additional spells, free stat points, neutral enemies to join your army, and artifacts and relics to deck your character out was pretty addictive. The issue I have is that almost all the progress you make is lost between chapters, including the items you collect. I get why they take the army away from you before proceeding, as this helps balance the next chapter, I would have preferred to keep everything and instead make the next chapter more difficult with advanced enemies and larger forces for example. The progression followed by regression mechanic really takes away the rewarding aspect of exploration as you have to collect the same units and items again in the next chapters, making you feel like you start over as a total grunt all over again, rather than feeling like you're becoming a badass. The other issues I have include the hero system: magic is always stronger. I had a character with 6 magic and 13 attack and my physical attacks didn't eve do 1/3 of the damage. My last gripe is that the commanders all look generic and recycled. It doesn't feel very epic to fight the same stock soldier with a different portrait: creating varied looks for opposing enemy hero's would have been nice, but instead every orc commander looks the same, and so on.
Alright, now on to the most important aspect of the game: STORY.
Story:
I like that each faction has it's own heroes an that there is a story to tell, the issue I have is that they are more of a snapshot of a story versus a compelling narrative. The best way I can explain it is to imagine reading a one page summary of the chapters of your favorite story. Do the characters have a love story, revenge story, etc? Absolutely, but you get a handful of dialogue per chapter and while you can see the logical connections, and that human aspects of the stories they intended to tell, the story is jilted and cursory leaving the delivery feeling a bit flat despite good voice acting. For example, minor spoilers, at one point you have to sacrifice someone you love in one of the campaign chapters, "because", with a brief dialogue about how you're the only one capable of shaping the world and so on, followed by a brief, "but I love you and I could never do that", obviously paraphrased, only to do it willingly after a short logical explanation of why you should sacrifice the person you love. Likewise, there is a story of revenge including a brother and sister, where you are told they were framed and betrayed by their people, and now they are on a mad crusade and act like psychopaths talking of bathing in blood and drinking the tears of the children, pretty close to the actual lines of dialogue, which is justified by something you never see in order to follow their path to becoming blood crazed lunatics. It is more of a tell rather than show storyline where you have to relate to what is provided to you rather than experiencing it or having a personal stake or connection to what happens. For this reason, the story is pretty unsatisfying. It does not help that each campaign is a "vignette", yes I said vignette again, of a particalar "hero" of the faction from random periods in time with no overarching connection or story between them, with the exception of a few minor characters you may remember for their name from a different campaign. This left me feeling a lack of compulsion to finish the campaigns as it felt like I was playing 6 mini stories of shallow depth rather than one epic overarching story. This also left very little room for character development or advancement leaving you disconnected from the characters and seeing them more as a conduit by which to kill stuff and collect things you will soon have taken from you.
Summary:
There is a lot of potential in this franchise, and it still has plenty of reasons to play and appreciate the game, but if you are looking to follow a compelling narrative, enjoy meaningful and well portrayed characters and relationships, or even feel the slow advancement of being weak to being powerful, this game does not deliver. Once again, I favor story, narrative, and character development over flashy graphics, gameplay, and especially competitive and online play, so take that into mind when deciding whether this game is right for you. In the end, this made me crave a proper SRPG or narrative focused fantasy game, and it is never a good thing to think of how much you want to play something else while you are in the middle of playing your current game: essentially fantasizing about someone else while having sex, and that is never a good recipe for fun.
Purchased in January 2025. No problems with the installation, prerequisite for playing is a linked profile between Ubisoft & Steam (no costs and not more than 5 minutes setup time).
The game itself has absolutely captivated me after about 40 hours of playing time. I have completed about 5 multiplayer matches and the first campaign series of a faction. So far the game seems very balanced and in PVE mode I can handle the “Hard” difficulty without it being a self-runner. There are even harder and easier game modes, so there should be something suitable for everyone. The game mechanics remind me for the first time after many expansions of the good old HMM4 times when I grew up. Both Might and Magic Heroes are absolute fun to play and, especially in the later phases of the game, every move in battle has to be tactically well thought out. There are countless premade maps and also the option to automatically create new maps with individual seeds and various settings (resource deposits, strength of neutral armies, with or without underground, etc.).
A clear recommendation to buy, 10/10
Simple Beer & Pretzels strategy game that is fun & somewhat challenging
Awesome game!! Me and my wife have played this series since the beginning and we love it!!!
This game in current state is totally unplayable.....
1. Game gets stuck in a black screen when u try starting it.
2. I read tons of fixes that people might have to do yust to play it....
3. I tried turning off steam sync and ubisoft connect sync...since it seems like the game is stuck loading something it cannot at startup...
4. Turned off wifi on computer and tried starting game again....suddenly it worked in offline mode....
5. Turned on wifi again because i wanted to see if it was yust a coincidence.....game crashed and wouldnt work again...
6. Ask steam for a refund and told them to contact developer and make them get a patch fix for the game if they still should sell it.....well lets see how it goes.
Well Worth the money.
Good game, Good ghraphics
