METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES

This game was fun, up until I ran out of ammo for my silent pistol. I have another gun but I cannot use it, I cannot change weapons no matter what I do. I know I should press the dive key while aiming and I have done that a million times in every conceivable way, it just doesn't work! I have reinstalled but the same problem is still there, I CANNOT SWITCH WEAPONS!!!! THIS GAME IS WORTHLESS!!!!

A short-but-sweet prelude to The Phantom Pain, primarily let down by the inclusion of some questionable narrative content, but otherwise with a compelling main mission and a number of side objectives to pursue.

I will recommend this, ONLY assuming you are getting the definitive pack. In that case, it goes from a heavily overpriced demo, to a regular demo. In the time of writing, that means Ground Zero and all DLC cost about 1 USD/Euro altogether, packaged with The Phantom Pain.

This "game" will help you gather a very basic understanding of the timeline to prepare you for The Phantom Pain, but I would not say it's critical to your enjoyment. Understand that Ground Zero is only a small fraction of the size, depth, and variety of The Phantom Pain. It lacks almost every basic feature, and plays like a late Alpha version.

If you bought the Definitive Experience, but do not enjoy this, I suggest you finish the first and only main mission and then hop over to the real game.

For a prolog/Demo for MGSV its really good and really replayable but frustrating to get all S ranks and 100%.

Sets the stage on how dark MGSV is and has a scene that makes me wanna skip a certain cutscene but overall is great however only get it on sale cuz idk if its $20 worth

Just the "Prelude" to the full Metal Gear Solid V, but I can play this over and over! SOOOO much re-playability, and SOOOOO fun! I love playing the missions without really caring if I get a good grade, just as long as I have fun sneaking around and shooting the enemies!

The amount of gameplay they got out of one map is insane.

There's also an actual plotline specific to that map if you play the Side Ops outside of the main Ground Zeroes storyline. Ground Zeroes bridges Peace Walker + Phantom Pain, but there's a Guantanamo Bay-specific storyline for you here too.

Ground Zeros? More like that Ground really Zero'ed in on Big Boss's fricken head.

This is a demo for the actual game "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain". Just buy the "MGSV The Definitive Experience" pack which includes this demo, otherwise it is not worth it.

However despite being a demo for a bigger game, Ground Zeroes has plenty to offer in its shorter game length. Because there's only one level in this game the level itself is highly detailed, more so than some of the dedicated mission locations in TPP. The enemy AI are similar to that in TPP however the hard difficulty option is what stands out. Stealth becomes really difficult in that difficulty since the soldiers have way better field of vision and range. But playing with the hard difficulty setting is also very rewarding if you can pull it off.

The extra ops in this game add more story and interesting trivia leading up to the events in the main mission for the game. The last 2 extra ops are fan services with callbacks to past Kojima (and one non Kojima game that is MGR:R) games.

The gameplay, graphics, and sound design hold up very well. All of this is packed in around 3 gigabytes which is kinda insane. Shows how resource efficient the FOX engine is. Compared to TPP, Big Boss here feels a lot more weighty but that doesn't ruin the experience- rather it helps distinguishing itself from the TPP because, well, Big Boss gets some unexpected changes in the full game ikyky. Vehicles too also feel very weighty not that you'd be using them here that much though.

My only gripe with this demo is that the first person aiming has it's sensitivity messed up in KBM setting and also the interrogation/weapon selection wheel works wonky. These problems aren't present when you play with a controller though.

Despite being a demo there's plenty of replayability. I keep coming back to this despite playing TPP. Since you can't fulton extract anyone in this game and the weapons are not upgraded - i.e no pacifist options other than the two handguns in the game- the stealth "tactical espionage action" this game provides is simply pristine and unmatched. It is simply just that good.

Over priced demo, would not recommend.

I am a mgs fan, my favorite being the original ps1. I first got GROUND ZEROES and PHANTON PAIN on ps3 when it came out back in 2014 and 2015... back then gz was slandered as a short 30 buck demo. It was though, however it demonstrated a great deal of gameplay and story telling. Today I finally migrate to PC's version and it feels alot better than the 27fps version I was subjected to back then.

This is a nice little intro to The Phantom Pain. It plays nice and does give you a good idea of how TPP will play.

One of the best in the Tactical Call stealth operation genre.
Although the story was short, it is a good introduction to version 5.
There are many Easter eggs and memorable things related to previous versions.
Especially for fans of this series, it will take a long time to make it 100% complete.

O jogo apesar de ser curto, consegue entregar bastante do jogo posterior, e apresenta e introduz muito bem a história e as mecânicas do jogo. Pelo menos pra mim a experiência foi absurda e impactante até o final do jogo.

Been playing MG since it came out on PS. great story.

Man, this is fricking hard by the way... I completed the final side op of anti air guns thinking I would surely get a S rank for this, only to get a meagre B. I think taking too much time cost it. There's no doubt, this is a 'git gud' game, if you are aiming for at least 50% completion.

Its a short game, only 25-30 hours to get 100% completion. Every mission is very well designed and unique, which makes it feel almost as a new game every time, even though it all only takes place on one small map!

10/10 Would recommend :3

I remember buying this game when it came out for 39.99 on the ps3 and while I did have fun I don't think it was worth the 40 bucks but revisiting this game on the steamdeck...

This game has one of the best openings for metal gear solid games

Camp Omega is a fun base to sneak around in that has so many smaller places that make up the whole pie

Phantom Pain has more refined gameplay and there are a good amount of bases that are fun to sneak around and fight in but none of them, in my opinion, held the complexity that this base did.

The other side missions for this game are fun and have varied objectives. If you want a third person stealth/action game, pick this up when it goes on sale. 2 hours should be enough time if you want to keep it or not.

1/10 how do you somehow forget to add basic mouse controls to the main menu and sound settings in a pc conversion of this ass game impossible to play

A little late.
It's a bit more refined and less refined in some areas compared to V, some of the movement behaviors that weren't included in V feel more fluid but some feel clunky (sprint remains toggled through actions like aiming, which is likely to get you spotted from a solid 75m away if you aren't aware of it).

It's great. There actually a lot to accomplish in this nice little game.

Really good game especially if you find it on a sale, despite this basically being a demo for MGSV: The Phantom Pain this still has at least 30-40 hours of playtime. There's the main story mission that leads to phantom pain which can be completed in an hour or 2 or maybe even less but this being a metal gear game of course there is plenty of interesting side content that all utilize the same sandbox map from the main story mission in different ways.

On top of the extra missions that all boost the playtime by a few hours each (and are just as masterfully crafted as the main mission in true kojima style) there are also time trials and other challenges that you need to complete if you wish to 100% this.

I'd even argue that this is the true MGSV experience due to the 1000s of copy pasted side quests in The Phantom Pain that are simply not very interesting or enjoyable coupled with it's disappointing and rushed ending.

An extremely off-putting and controversial game. Not often a game can make you feel so uneasy in its 90 minute runtime.

What a fantastic game. I actually played this after TPP, but enjoyed it equally as much. I love the stealth aspect in these MGS games. The gunplay (when needed) is top notch, graphics still more than hold up, and the movement feels great. The missions were fun and engaging. It was also fun to go around trying to find the “extras” each mission had to offer.

100% recommend this one.

A short and atmospheric introduction to the series which captures the essence of Metal Gear games: stealth, espionage, infiltration. The game contains six missions which take place on the same map - US military black site on Cuba. Even though that doesn’t sound like much, missions offer a good deal of replay value through completing them by using different weapons, strategies, doing non-lethal playthroughs, finding collectables etc. The game has good graphics, an interesting story setting and fun gameplay which will give you a taste of what the series is all about.

Ground Zeroes specifically is a good way to get familiar with the gameplay of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. It introduces more or less the same game mechanics and features. Just like MGSV: TPP, Ground Zeroes offers many pathways to reach the same objective. It gives opportunities to develop new and creative ways of using weapons and equipment as well as exploiting the behavior of NPCs to your advantage.

Because the game is rather short, I would suggest waiting for a discount instead of buying it at full price. If you plan to play MGSV: TPP, I strongly suggest completing Ground Zeroes first. The progress you make in Ground Zeroes can be imported to The Phantom Pain which will unlock more content and customization options (like the really badass looking GZ sneaking suit). Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes also features cool easter eggs which reference other installments in the series in a goofy but fun way that is not uncommon to Hideo Kojima’s work overall.

Don't listen to those who played it for few hours because it's the "perfect demo" for a game with a plus of the side missions

Good mission and bridge between Peace Walker and The Phantom Pain but $20 is a lot to fork over for it. It's kinda ironic because I've seen The Phantom Pain go for as low as $5 and is in every way better, while the lowest I've seen GZ go for is $12. Even on the final xbox 360 sale, where Konami actively decided to put both on sale at the same time, TPP was $5 and GZ was $12. Honestly if not for the bonus missions I would say this should be free, or at the very least go on sale for $5, because the prices of both are very misleading. The $20 you spend on Ground Zeroes goes toward maybe four hours of gameplay, while the $20 you spend on The Phantom Pain goes toward roughly 35 hours of gameplay. The only reason I bought this is because wanted to actually play through the full story (MGS3 - PW - GZ - TPP - Etc.) but if you just want to learn the full story I'd just recommend watching a walkthrough or something.
