Early Beta Access
What is the state of this?
The project is in a transitionary stage, it'll be different from what you see here. There are two playable prototypes up, but we don't recommend buying the game at this stage. What happened here?
Game design is tough and after 4 long years working on this thing we burntout and ran out of funds, the path forward for us wasn't clear at the time and so the game sat abandoned for 3 years. What can I expect?
Not your average RTS that's for sure, we're going for something a little more freeform. We're now our third iteration perfecting our vision of the 'Fleet Warfare RTS.'
But what does this actually mean?
It means that in this Early Access project we don’t have all the answers upfront and so what you see here will change. The ship designs and graphic effects are all solid, but the execution will vary in the finished game.
In 3.0 we’re adding free-roaming multiplayer; the chance for hundreds of Players to work competitively or cooperatively towards common goals.
So what’s on sale now?
The screenshots and video you’re seeing are from 2.0, owners have access to this on Steam. 1.0 is also available to play as a bonus (if you switch builds in the games properties,) and you’ll also have access to 3.0 when it replaces this title on Steam.
Support us in our journey by adding us to your wishlist!

abandoned
these games are a scam, they have to give the money back, you thieves!
This is another example of why EA gets almost no support from me and why I'm getting closer and closer to purchasing games from another source other than Steam. This is officially abandoned and yet it is still posted for sale on Steam. Just like so many other games long since unsupported and won't even run after installation that are still sold on Steam.
DO NOT BUY !!!
Further development of this game has been canceled, and as it is it is little more than a tech demo. It should not be on sale, let alone on sale for 15 USD. If you have the time and capability to update the Early Access description to say that the project is canceled, you have the time to pull the game from sale.
Could've been great, but the Devs abandoned it.
Where is my money Gabe?
And why is this till for sale?
They completely abandoned us, the supporters of this game. Then they cancelled it and didn't even get a note that they will get out money back. Geeessshh.. Pathetic creators. We will remember.
As of today the game as been abandoned, broken and almost unplayabled, filled with bugs and no more support stay far
The developers have absolutely no idea what they want this game to be, and now the direction they are pushing it after abandoning it isn't what the early access supporters want. The developers are putting effort into convincing people this is the game they want instead of the game that was originally advertised.
It's immediately apparent in their own blog... "I guess we went off at the deep end, working on the stuff that looked good so we could pull in the crowd to support us." . With excuses like "we couldn't make a 3d camera work". That's weird, since games like Battlefleet gothic and Battlestar galactica have no problems making both these concepts work. The best part about those games is they didn't try and change the concept mid development and try to tell everyone they were wrong.
The shallow space devs couldn't execute a concept that people wanted. Instead they're making their new game, or I guess the same game a shallow version of the original concept. Maybe the name's accurate after all.
Would not recommend.
UPDATE 09/23/2021: The game is now officially dead, as per the main dev's latest Announcement here and on the game's website after 4-5 months of no updates since April 2021. The major redesign attempting to pivot the game's genre from 3D-space RPG/RTS to 2D-space grid-based MMORTS (which most of the community disagreed with) proved to be too much of a hurdle, combined with the existing rocky relationship with the game's community from the first time the dev disappeared.
This game was extremely promising in terms of both mechanics and theme (and the great graphics), but is currently unfinished and barely playable as a limited/buggy sandbox.
If you're wondering about the history behind all the negative reviews: essentially this game was under development and then the lead dev (and potentially others from the team) ghosted the community and stopped updates partway through early access due to (to the best of my knowledge) some creative conflicts, personal issues between members of the dev team, financial issues, and just getting fed up with development. They then dropped all communications, and the community only received any information about what happened months later due to someone who had contact with the lead dev on a different platform. So this game was abandonware from 2017-2020.
Another project Genome Osiris
two bit developers like this and STEAMs inability to Filter blatant cash grabs are whats going to kill Early Access as a funding model
DO NOT BUY IT IS NO LONGER IN ACTIVE DEVELOPMENT
the scam artist/s responsible: rumor is James Martin is trying this again with ANOTHER project. If I find name project/game will update review with it so more people don't get scammed by this guy.
James Martin - Main Developer/Programmer/User interface (aka mawhrin-ske)
Vincent Van Diemen - Producer/Management consultant (Creator Nexus Jupitor incident)
Peter Hyder - Marketing and project co-ordination
Brian Purkiss - Website (PAmatches)
Daniel Schmelling - Skyboxes
John Harper - Writer
Jim and Annie Groth - Website
Mathias - Artwork/3d modeller(Had worked on Deep space settlement)
Alexander - Graphics (Coder?)
Enry - Music
David - 3D Modeller

"Russian dude" Port over databases console?
General Manager of another game (StarMade) - Forums
Game has been abandoned. Website is down as well. Wasted money. I don't know why this is even still for sale on steam.....
Been following this since their Indiegogo campaign as well. Such a shame, was really hoping for a Homeworld 2 alternative.
***EDIT: 8/24/2020
Looks like the devs are trying to restore the game and finish it. I wish them well and will change my review to a positive one should they succeed.
***ORIGINAL REVIEW***
Unfinished and abandoned by the developers. Do not purchase.
It's unfortunate because this game looked like it had potential.
Game is dead. Showed great promise, but never realized. Bought in during EA, which is always a gamble. Just a shame as this could have been a nice, different twist for space based RTS (as there are so few of them anyways). Avoid, and buy at your own risk.
STAY AWAY
Abandoned long ago, never even close to finished. Developer disappeared instead of facing his customer base.
STAY AWAY
game is incomplete and no updates from months, in it's current state you can't do anything, build ships, complete missions, or even lvl up. I'm a huge space RPG and stratagy buff but, this was a waste of money. Steam should take this game down so no one else gets scammed.
What would be an abandoned early access game on steam looks like? Just look at this one. I regret my $17 paid 3 years ago.
Atm i really wouldnt recomend getting this as we are unsure if it will ever get more content as there was some issue wut hthe devlopers and we havnet had any posts since the new year.
EDIT 25/11/21
Dev has canceld the game running off with everyone's money who paid for both EA and any kick starter backers
DONT NOT BUY
Do not buy this game, until you read there forums, there are issues that you need to be aware of. This game is possibly dead. which is a shame as it has a nice start and concept.
Like i said READ THE FORUMS.
So it's a promising game. But the developers aren't actually developing. If you have loads of patience go ahead but if not don't get it. I'ma wait until they pull there finger out then buy again. Now to contest that 0.1 hours over play time. Can't exactly call crashes game play...
First time writing a review, however this game looks so promising to me I wanted to do everything I can to give it a bump. It scratching that Homeworld itch i've had since middle school, only with the promise of so much more depth. The devs have a long way to go, and I am rooting for them 100%.
This game has potential. Is a little rough around the edges at the moment but the developers are willing to implement player ideas and work with players. That in itself is more than I can say for most. Will happily keep an eye on it and play this game as it works towards its final goal.
This game still has a long way to go however I have to agree with the other guy about this possibly being the next homeworld. The game looks amazing and has so much potential. Lots of bugs and I even had a complete crash to desktop in the beta version however I am enjoying playing with it and look forward to whats to come
The dev announced that Shallow Space has been canceled. Shame, it was really promising.
Wish them the best in their new endeavors.
NOTE: Early Access Review, 2016-04-03
TL;DR was TL;DR: Buy it. Right now. Video review at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HzwwVeWKwNc
TL;DR: Do you like Rome: Total War? Do you like Homeworld? Then you absolutely must buy this game. Are you a fan of RTSs but never played Rome or Homeworld? Give it a try anyway. Are you a CoD or DOTA player who's never touched real time strategy? Buy it for the pretty spaceships and explosions. Basically, buy it.
So, what is it? In short, it's Rome: Total War in space. Line up armies, face them off against eachother. A campaign mode is coming, but is not here yet. It's so much more, as well; ship and fleet customization give it a whole extra dimension of depth above most RTSs. Nonetheless, it's very intuitive and feels incredibly responsive.
The good:
- Graphics and UI are beautiful and very well designed
- The UI, while not typical of RTS games, is impressively intuitive. I went from "how do I move" to feeling like Ender in about ten minutes, WITHOUT a tutorial. The Tab-key locking and simple move queuing makes complex strategies a joy to plan and execute.
- The UI again - it's so good, it deserves another entry. With such a complex game to control, and what with not being finished yet, the game could be forgiven for being confusing and hard to learn, but it's not. In addition to what I've mentioned, the game slows when planning moves or when enemies are first detected, giving you the chance to think a little more about strategy - very important for new players.
- The music. I'm not sure if it's dynamic or not, but it's highly appropriate, highly atmospheric, and greatly enhances the immersion.
- The fleet maneuver dynamics. Watching an entire flotilla wheel around and steam head first into the enemy, guns blazing, might not be the most astute strategy, but it's certainly impressive. Even just flying a fleet around in space is fun.
The bad:
- The most obvious first: It's not finished. There is no campaign mode and no tutorial. There will be - the buttons for them are there - but they aren't implemented yet. Honestly, I don't think a tutorial is really necessary, but I for one will be happy to see the campaign mode.
[*] Minor gripes in re: not being finished yet: I'd like to be able to move the camera by clicking on the minimap, and a few other things like that, but really who cares? It's Early Access. They'll fix it.
A few observations:
When I first started up a skirmish, I didn't realize it was fully 3D. I accidentally held down the left button during a move and saw the prediction line shoot up into the void, and I thought, "I could really get lost out here." That's a great thing, in my book: a space game that really gives a good idea of the vastness of space.
I run Linux - an unsupported version, no less - and the game runs flawlessly. I do appreciate that effort from the devs.
Conclusion:
Buy it. Just buy it. It's only $15, and it's already an incredible game - and it's certainly not going to get worse as Early Access goes on.
EDIT: Yes, I posted this review after playing for about 30 minutes. The game really is that easy to pick up.
