Hexagons are the bestagons
good game
great puzzle game
a pleasant lil puzzle game that saw my minesweeper addiction and supplanted it by giving me hexagonal cells
it isn't JUST minesweeper + 2 more sides, but -- you're given a few more rules to keep an eye on as the levels progress, with each making it just that bit more complicated, but never unfair
the handmade levels aren't the main selling point, though, as this game boasts a seed-based level generator, with up to roughly a hundred MILLION puzzles -- it remains to be seen whenever all of these remain as fair as the main game (literally, if you checked each solo, it'd take a good 190 years minimum)
that along with user-generated levels means this is a game that can last you a fair long while, and it's remained on my desktop anytime i need something quick to pick up and put down
great game
I can feel my addiction growing and growing...
Pretty good game to play while watching youtube
Hexcells dared to ask - what if minesweeper was good? And then we made it perfect?
Very good puzzle game
This is the undisputed winner of the Hexcells trilogy. This is better for the obvious reason that there are "infinite" puzzles in it, but beyond that the main puzzles are even harder than ever which makes this the biggest bang for your buck in both ways. If you enjoy sudoku or minesweeper or picross, buy this game.
It makes my brain buzz.
This game runs perfectly on the Steam Deck, using L-trigger, R-trigger, and the R-touchpad for controls. The size of the screen can be a little problematic for the eyes if you hold it too close. The puzzles are fun and the infinite puzzle option means that even after all the pre-mades are completed: the puzzles can continue. (EDIT: Steam is telling me I only have 69 minutes clocked as of this review, but it's 36 hours).
Not a fan of this one. The difficulty in Hexcells Plus was just right. This one needs more mental energy that I'm capable of...
Not much new from the previous games, but it might be the best of them, with continued great puzzle design, I did not feel bored at all.
Playing other player's levels is great! They do some very interesting ones. The random levels are ok, but nothing amazing, significantly less interesting than the campaign levels and the workshop levels.
An excellent puzzle game, now with community levels too.
I found this gem because my father asked me to take a look into video games that were challenging for the grey matter. And you know what? Now, with his 80+ years under his belt, he has a steam account. He loves this game and so do I.
Hexcells is my favourite puzzle game. I would rate Plus as harder than Infinite (for the most part), but Infinite is the more balanced game. It also has randomly-generated levels, so you can play it forever. And you still never need to guess!
The nature of the game means you can leave it for a few months or years and come back to it and still find the puzzles just as challenging as the first time.
These games make a great gift.
A great game to get a nice taste of the puzzle game genre.
Enjoying the logic in this - it's like Minesweeper 2.0. Thanks for the fun!
Just a fun logic game. If you like those, play it, it's great.
Hexcells Infinite
Hexcells Infinite by Matthew Brown takes the classical concept of the minesweeper and expands upon it, creating something enjoyable and more unique out of it.
The mechanics of the game are intuitive, and each time a new mechanic is introduced, it is done in a clear and understandable manner.
The levels slowly increase in difficulty, and can become moderately complexe or time consuming to solve — more than in the previous game — yet they remain within a relatively casual range.
The visual aesthetics of the game are clean, polished, and of good quality.
Hexcells Infinite is overall a good quality, more challenging, and enjoyable puzzle game from Matthew Brown.
Great game for listening to Spotify.
More fun puzzles with a chill vibe. The "infinite mode" is a bit addictive.
10/10 Puzzle Game
Amazing game, and the infinite mode is superior!
Hexcellent Infinite
I bought Hexcells, Hexcells infinite and hexcells plus 5 days ago, during the past 5 days my average daily playtime for these games was 6.1 hours. I didn't even know a game could be this addictive...
For the review - this is basically something of a mix between sudoku or nonograms, except you don't have to learn techniques like you do in sudoku. Hard puzzles sometimes take me 1-2 hours to crack so this game will not always be a walk in the park which is a huge plus in my opinion.
a fun not simple puzzle game
my brain hurts.
Like minesweeper, but you can use logic to avoid having to guess.
Clearly peak form - more difficult, with all the pros including low price retained, and now providing as well millions of generated puzzles AND user-created ones.
Its kind of the goat
hexagons will always be the bestagons for minesweeper
Endless random and daily puzzles
Minesweeper but cooler.
When you thought Hexcells couldn't get better... now you have infinite.
If you finished the first two games, this one is even better. It comes with a random puzzle generator and now people can do their own levels and share them in reddit
Genuinely a good relaxation game
And if you're also one of those people who needs to be doing something while watching yt or listening to music, I massively recommend this game ^^
I love this -2- D game
I'm reviewing my game based off the campaign.
Such a great game for what it's worth. This game is by far one of the best brain workouts I've ever given myself in a long time, and that's a title I don't give out fairly easily. The base premise of this game is simple, but it's done so effectively and it makes the game that much more engaging to play. I highly recommend buying this if you are looking to fry your brain (mainly meant in a good way), because Hexcells Infinite definitely helped do that job for me.
i love sweeping the six sided mines
Games great. Can play windowed. Puzzles are rewarding to solve. Great.
10-minute puzzles for a relaxing coffee break.
I bought the first Hexcells 6 years ago and wasn't drawn to it because I was too idiot to understand and enjoy this game. After 6 years later, I can finally understand why people love it so much. The rule (and also graphics) is relatively simple, but it's really fun to think which cell should I open next.
Hexcells Infinite is exactly, literally infinite because now the game can generate random levels. So, if you love Hexcells and Hexcells Plus, this is a must-buy game.
By the way, I really respect Matthew Brown, the developer. He has (almost) only released puzzle games. I've played Cypher before and this is also an interesting game. I can't imagine living as a puzzle game developer because I have no single brain cells.
It's a variant of Minesweeper games, where the grid is hexes instead of squares. Has a few additional mechanics that expands game play. And has an infinite number of puzzles, so you can keep playing this game long after other puzzle based games.
the puzzles are addicting
The game is good, but annoying:
Is it pretty? Yes!
Does it sound well with music and effects? Yes!!!
Is it interesting from a puzzle perspective? Yes!
Then why am I giving a thumbs down?
It's the overall out of puzzle game design choices.
The game gives you points depending on how many mistakes you did while solving a level.
There are only so many points per level and you only get those points once.
So far, so good. A good old unlock system as you slowly learn the rules.
However, you can't complete all levels without guesswork on your first try.
Starting on "world" 3, it seems memorizing the level layout and placing the answers without opening the board is a requirement at some point to complete any level there.
If we need a perfect play for all the points and the boards are not random, there is no reason to rely on memory instead of solving the puzzle at hand.... on the other side, if I know I'll have to play again for those unlocking points, I might as well just click the whole thing and memorize it without solving.
This has a lot of potential compared to the original minesweeper game and it shows a good way to extend playability over a classic.
But it also shows how game design decisions can turn a great idea into a frustrating chore.
I'll give a shot to the player created levels at some point and see if we find some proper minesweeper/sudoku designs.
great game
This game has Hexsold itself to me
Sudoku meets Minesweeper! Fantastic handcrafted logic puzzles that can all be solved with logic.
Interesting puzzle solver
My go to game when I've thrown on a podcast or some music and just want to relax.
The main game probably equals about 2-5 hours of my playtime, but its the infinite that I've happily sunk the other 800 hours in to. Here's to 800 more!
