Did anyone actually play this mess?
The graphics are horribly ugly, and in combination with those "look around" controls one can feel nauseous.

Legendary game, sometimes you don't know how to progress, but you figure it out using guides or just going around multiple times. Great game, great vibe

I have this game on a CD-ROM somewhere and I've tried playing this game multiple times since it released and literally never got through the first day. Tonight I changed all that and sat down and looked up a walkthrough just so I could experience this game that I've spent 23 years trying to beat and I've got to say I have mixed feelings. The main character is completely unphased when random things happen that you should probably freak out about (loch ness monster appearing and talking to a literal spirit) but he takes it in complete stride. The underwater maze is an unbelievable nightmare to navigate, especially on your return trip which is timed. Be sure to save often because there's a few timed segments, the last one being over incredibly fast. Honestly I don't want to not recommend this because it's cheap and charming in it's own right but I also really don't want to recommend that you waste your time playing it. I think if you can find a playthrough of this game in your language you'd have a better time watching that than playing this game.

This is a nice, old, relatively easy point & click game. It has its pros: it seems like a good one for the release date, it was moderately fun, the story was very clichéd, but entertaining nonetheless; and also its cons: most of the difficulty comes from pixel-hunting, which I don't particularly enjoy; some of the interactions are weird and hotspots are hard to differentiate (there's one near the end where you have to pull a lever, and you actually have two different ways to pull it, but they are too close to each other, and it looks like there is just one); it can get boring at times; and if you remove the excess difficulty due to pixel hunting, it's very short, and very easy overall. But although I have mixed feelings about it, I enjoyed it well enough to recommend it, and I'll be playing the sequel (not on Steam, sadly)

Overall a pretty fun short point-and-click mystery game that will certainly challenge your gray cells.
This game was released in 2001, so I do not think anyone expects the graphics to be all that pretty. The game gets a pass for age.
Movement is very simple as it is a point-and-click game. It does not get much more simple than that.
The story itself is interesting and kind of funny, although there are some confusing points. There are some parts of the game that you might get stuck on, as the game really leaves you to figure everything out on your own and sometimes there is no indication of what you need to do. Finding things can also be hard sometimes as you pretty much have to look over the entire area multiple times without finding anything, and than it will randomly be available where you already looked. I am not ashamed to admit that I used a guide.
I personally prefer waiting for sales before I purchase anything because I'm cheap like that, but I can definitely see it being worth it's normal price.
Live a good and long life!

I played this game a ton when it came out so I'm probably biased. But this is a really fun one! If you grew up during the 90s/00s and played a ton of the point-and-click adventure games by The Adventure Company or Dreamcatcher then you'll know what to expect. Graphics are pretty dated (but were awesome when it came out!) but they still hold up pretty alright. Good little mystery game for a nostalgia flashback, or even someone who wants to get into that time period of 3D adventure games.

Tip: Remember to save often! There are several different times in the game where you can die and this was before autosave. There's no undo button so if you die, you have to reload a save.

Reasonable. Not difficult. But if you like solving/finding things. If you get it cheap in a sale then it's worth for a bit of fun.

Nice game but some of the puzzles didn't make complete sense. Even the chain of events in point and click logic were misleading and not completely well linked. Most times I had to restart through timed scenes . What I'd recommend this game for would be the plot :) it's fun and interesting but utter nonsense!

I bought it on sale, 1€, and I 'm happy with this. I finish the game (I 'm not always online)
First of all, the game is completely outdated, graphics are sometimes bad, I see a lot of screenshots so I was aware of if.
but it's that who make his charm.
The music is basic, not good or bad.
I Enjoy play it, look at the walktrought a few times.
I will not play it again in the future, I love this kind of game, but this one is passable.
I will recommend only for person who see some video and who is fan of the genre, nostalgic too.

Basically a family friendly version of Dracula: Resurrection, which is what I remembered from playing this as a child. Character models are hella jank and animation is basically Roblox characters on an acid trip talking with their hands like drunk Italians. Shoutout to Lady McFarlane's voice actress for perfectly capturing a delirious old bint who encourages you to stay strapped or get clapped, young man. Shoutout to Princess Fiona. Shoutout to Shrek McSomething.

Puzzles are simple and the game doesn't let you go further than your character's knowledge will allow. Sometimes this gets insulting, as you're supposed to know (guess?) to backtrack to another room of the mansion to find someone who wasn't there thirty seconds ago when you were searching it, but all things considered it's not that large of a game world. It's just laid out like a maze.

Speaking of mazes, high speed pro tip: when you get the the lake, save at the moss covered doors before you do anything else because fuck that underwater segment.

Some cutscenes/audio cues did not play for me on my playthrough, which made it genuinely impossible to know based on the provided clues and information where I was supposed to go and what I was supposed to do at various points. I had to consult a walkthrough for the next step whenever that happened, so definitely keep one open in the background when you play through in case you don't hear a vital piece of information telling you where you were supposed to go next.

Absolutely worth playing if you get it on sale (I paid $0.59 for it), not worth paying the full price IMO.

Also I have no clue how a clearly pictured semiauto is a "revolver" but ok

Alan "Fill me rage, drown in the cage" Cameron

Alan "Put the crystal on the triskel or I'll beat you with this pistol" Cameron

Alan "Making bombs and drugging moms" Cameron

If you've played Mystery of the Druids, this is arguably a better "bad" game, but it's still a terribly baffling [or bafflingly terrible] point and click adventure with;

  • Laughable cut-scene models and animations. They make the MotD characters look good by comparison.
  • Nausea-inducing node-based travel (fixed points with a fully rotating camera view,)
  • Some of the most infuriating navigation ever to grace a computer. (Maze-like corridors with incongruously changing angles and repeating details mean walking down a simple hallway is confusing and tedious. Not to mention the actual mazes that were seemingly designed by the Devil himself...)
  • More than one timed segment with fatal game-over outcomes if failed. Save early and save often.
  • Hotspots and doors that only become available after very specific triggers and a nearly useless, vaguely written "journal" (complete with spelling errors,) mean unless you are patently psychic you will be frequently wandering and backtracking endlessly. trying to find the thing that will progress the game.
  • [*]Will not run on modern computers without advanced tweaking. I had to force v-sync off, run as compatible for Win XP, and install a third party wrapper to emulate an old video card and its associated legacy DirectX dlls just to get it to run. I also had to reconfigure my mouse sensitivity to overcome a sluggish in-game cursor. It may take some actual work to get this going on your pc.

If you want to laugh and suffer through a vintage point and click adventure with supernatural themes, you can't go wrong with this title.
Worth every penny I paid, but not much more. [At the time of my purchase it was $0.59...]

The Cameron Files: The Secret At Loch Ness is, a game? Look, I know it came out in 2001- EIGHTEEN years ago, but so did Halo. And Max Payne FFX, GTA 3, Pro Skater 3, hell, EVEN SONIC ADVENTURE 2. We were capable of making good games back then, but this? This ain't it.

To start off with my numerous gripes with the game, after clicking it took 1:20 seconds to get through the exposition at the begining. This was BEFORE the title screen- after clicking new game it took another MINUTE AND FIFTEEN to get into game play. But my dear friends, that's just the tip of the iceberg.
The models in this game look like wallace and grommet were hit by a bullet train at max velocity, then dropped onto the scene from the fucking stratosphere.
Then there's her. Oh my god. In the beginning there's an old lady, and the MOMENT she started talking I giggled. We had good voice acting in 2001. Award winning Aladdin came out in NINETY TWO. But instead we get the voice of what sounds like a pubescent boy immitating an old woman. It is comedic gold.
However, my mother taught me if I don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all. Sooooo...

The game plays decently. It does what it's meant to do. It seems it be a fully 3d environment, you can look around 360 degrees- and objects feel like theyre genuinely there when you warp. In most games you can tell that it's just a slideshow- different 2d JJpegs that you can click, but in this it feels like a real environment.
Which reminds me, The environment is EMPTY. You can only touch or inspect items critically important. You can't click the piano and have the MC say somehting about it, he just says nothing. You can't even click it. It makes it boring.
Remember Putt-Putt or that one fish one? The fun in Point-and-clicks is CLICKING, and when you can't click in a point in click, what's the point?

The Cameron Files: The Secret at Loch Ness is a genuinely bad game. The plot is as thick, and as slow as molasses, in a beautiful yet empty world. It fails to have the same charm as any other PnC, Even the free flash ones while attempting to have an investing story. Its a crawl without polish, and lifeless. 3/10

If the game is crashing for you - YOU MUST RUN THE GAME FROM YOUR C:\
[I had the game constantly crashing out after a view seconds of playing a video it would skip to the next part of the game until it had played all the intro vids and would be at the first gameplay section and then it would just crash to desktop with no error. Moving the install files from my secondary drive back to my c:\ let me play and 'enjoy' the game]

Haven't started to play the game much yet.. only just got it working. I'm going to give it the benefit of the doubt for now as it hasn't done anything too offensive yet. It's a first person point and click adventure game - like the Sherlock Holmes games - but then it pulls out and shows your main character when you interact with anything in the third person which is terrifying because the main character is scary as all heck but well.. it's an old game..

The accents and voice acting are frigan horrible and whether or not it's an old game there's never really an excuse for just crappy voice direction. I enjoy watching old shows and movies and playing old games and bad sound quality, hissing and cracking in the background is to be expected but this is more than that.. it's just.. bad :)

Will update this review after some more time, I just wanted to post something incase others like me had had the crashing issue.

If you're into old - not so best of class - point and click adventure games - this should be right up your alley, it seems quite solid if budget at the time it was created.

TLDR: Decent sound design but heavy stuttering in screen panning, animations, and cutscenes. Engine is dated. Puzzle design seems tedious and story is not terribly gripping. Outcompeted

The issues I experienced were on Windows 10 64bit Ryzen+Polaris. I dont believe this game is worth troubleshooting given the superior alternatives that work out of box. The story looked half decent, some kind of private investigator type, meant to be a franchise with multiple installments like a homebrewed sherlock holmes. I believe there are only two Cameron files and to be honest the setup is rather forgettable.

I suck at point and click games so this didn't last very long.

The animations are awful and the characters look terrifyingly disguisting and horrid!

I went into every door I could, every floor I could, and couldn't figure out what do to. I'm not searching the whole mansion to find single items to continue a story, screw that.

I really hate this game!

I'm generally a fan of point and click adventures and yes, I know I just don't have the patience for some of the failings I was used to at their height in the 90s but this game is still horrible! By the end of it I was screaming at the screen in anger and frustration. I then resorted to online walkthroughs so that such a poor excuse for a game did not defeat me.

My main objections are below (warning there are some spoilers):

1. There is no tutorial.
I was just flung into the game and had to guess how to access the inventory and hint system. Perhaps this wasn't a problem when it was originally purchased in a box with a manual, but it's a drag now.

2. Movement/backgrounds/stupid, pointless mazes.
The movement is your standard grid system point and click which wouldn't be so much of a problem if the backgrounds weren't so poorly rendered. This really comes into its teeth-grindingly-frustrating own when the game decides it would be fun to have a largely featureless underwater maze. They then decide to compound this misery in the final section with circular corridors.

3. The hint system is more of an 'I told you so' system.
This includes notes in a diary which sometimes bear some relation to your predicament, sometimes don't. The latter is more often true. It leaves you completely hanging in places for no reason whatsoever.

4. Progression/puzzles are too often stupid.
We're not talking comedy stupid, or one-off perhaps they were having a bad day stupid. We're talking criminally poorly stupid. Why when I want to access the Loch do I have to magically realise I want a garden hose? Why when I want 120ml of a substance do I have to click on a bottle clearly marked as 30ml four times? It just doesn't make sense! Once or twice you can put up with, by the end of the game I felt it was almost constant.

If you're prepared to put up with all of this then please go ahead. All I can say is that it's a good job I'm blessed with a luxuriant mane as by the end of this a more folically challenged person might have had no more hair to pull out!

I remember having this game when i was ~11, me and my mom played it and got pretty far. Nolstalgia is pretty much the only reason i bought it, because objectively it's a bad game. Back then and now the only real driving factor is an odd compulsion to keep playing. I seriously don't know why this game has such a strong hold over me, my best guess is that like Myst, advancing after hours of brain numming searching is spiritually rewarding. That said i can only recomend this game to people who liked Myst and wouldn't mind a more cohesive story and unfairly hidden items.

This game was a blind purchase in a bundle with Scratches. A few months ago, I decided to give it a shot. I wasn't disappointed. The game is a bit fantastical with a touch of a Sherlock Holmes-esque feel to it. If you enjoy Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments, you may very well enjoy this. It is a touch confusing at times, and I did occasionally need to consult a walkthrough for some of the timed portions. The mystery is enough to keep you engaged and interested to the end, and there's a good amount of action as well. The protagonist is whitty and the puzzles are fun. I'm genuinely curious about the first game in the Cameron Files series because of this installment. Those who enjoy Adventure/P&CA games will want this in their collection.

Overall, if you can get it in a bundle, or on sale, I recommend.

It is hard to see areas of interest due to the dated graphics. It also feels pretty random in picking up objects and not knowing why until you use them. I also suck at these games, because they don't make sense. Finally, it doesn't autosave, so you can get killed at a certain point and have to start over.
