It's a Classic that still holds up. in my opinion, the best iteration of these games (unless olden era surprises me...lets hope). its fun, quick, nice value. If you can get the complete edition that also allows mods...even better from what i heard BUT this one is still really enjoyable.
One of the first PC games I ever played on my Win 95 PC as a kid, it's just a nice simple peaceful game and it's prob the best of all the heroes games
Lagging like crazy on a modern gaming computer, no fixes found. Unplayable.
Too addicting! 23.5 hours in 3 days. Had to delete it to preserve my sanity.
I love this game or at least i love the complete edition, i played it here just because it was convenient to do so.
This game is missing so much from the game that I love, it messed with all the textures as well and doesn;t even have the random map feature. If you are going to play this game I highly recommend giving it the best shot possible by playing the complete edition on another platform such as GOG galaxy
While I consider Heroes of Might & Magic III one of the greatest TBS games of all time, I cannot recommend buying this version.
This version is missing all of the expansions and lacks quality-of-life features provided by the HD mod, like buying all units from a castle at once or quick stack splitting. Otherwise, it plays exactly like the original game.
It is better to purchase HoMM III Complete Edition on another platform and install the fan-made HD mod. Despite what some people say, it aged very well; in fact, I think it even looks better than some modern games.
Initially, Ubisoft claimed that the source code had been lost. However, even after it was found, they still refused to release the expansion. Shame on you, Ubisoft.

I actually only started playing this game recently but it is definitely fun and a must play. it has a bunch of different modes as well as a storyline that you can play through. I play this often on my own and with others. it has a nice pass and play option and a great singleplayer option as well. you can also play online and find others that want to defeat the hordes of enemies that will be launched at you. its a top down base bullder with a grid like combat style. 10/10 would recommend.
So great getting to play this game again! But it really needs a random map generator!
Do _NOT_ buy this utterly horrible garbage version without expansion, its just very badly made.
Get it off GOG and install the HD mod which makes that version of the game infinitely better.

Absolutely amazing game - binge worthy. Can't believe this was released in 1999, where has the time gone??? Nothing from the last 20-25 years in this genre even comes close (except maybe Songs of Conquest). Just played the entire game from start to finish for the first time since 99. It still holds up extremely well, especially with the 4K treatment, and is quite a bit better than any TBS game out there right now. Amazing story, great strategy, and it totally sucks you into the fantasy work of Might and Magic. Why don't they have the expansions on Steam?!!? That's my one and only complaint. This game is so good I'm about to re-buy it on GoG so I can get the expansions.

Missing the random map generator.... seriously guys what is the point of having a map editor if you take away that feature
I have had more fun playing this game than a lot of multi-million costing, over-hyped, cynical, by the numbers trash over the years.
There is a lot of scope for game depth, and changing your hero's gear, exploration etc considering the age of the game. The music is excellent, and the presentation is polished.
A lot of retro games don't really stand the test of time, but Heroes Of Might & Magic III is still a fun time-sink.
I will always love this game. It's replayability is unending and the HD version looks and plays really well. My only complaint is that Steam doesn't seem to have the two expansions, Armageddon's Blade and Shadow of Death and those would make it so much more complete.
OLD BUT GOLD!! Used to play this game on my Dad's Win 98 Desktop PC's back in the days. Such a fun game to play. No rush, just sit back & relax but with a lot of clicking. Glad they made HD Version of it. Thanks dev. Brings up memories. And I still enjoys it!
Not only is this game missing the expansion content, but random maps are also not present. You're better off getting the complete edition elsewhere
It may be nostalgia, but this game I have easily put in uhhh like 1000 hours since I was a wee one. So yeah its fun.
At the end of 2024 - still better than 99% of nowadays games. Same fun as in late 90's early 00's.
Just a perfect example, when games were done by people, who are here not for money, but for the process.
One of the games I've played being a child, one of the games I might play when I'll be old af.

better get GoG version which includes all DLCs and HD-mod
This game so old, but still beat the new games, am always miss this game and back to it time to time, this game not of game king you can that make boredom, and all next edition are junk, this approve that the game makes from good drawing artist will never die, this game give you the maximum relaxation, and make you dive in the heroes story that you make in the game. when i play this am just escape from the reality and live in the story.
if any game rise from same technology, i will pay it without waiting discount.
Was in for some nostalgia, unfortunately the steam version here lacks the expansions (despite being more pricy than the GOG version)
Its just the base game without the one crucial factor which made the game a time killer and endless fun loop. The freakin random in-game map generator. Screw you ubish*t.

Great nostalgic turn based game. I played a lot with my Dad while he was around and it brings me so many wonderful memories.
HOMM3 is a good game... but this game, its ass. Its choppy and slow and missing content. GET ELSEWHERE.
It's good old vanilla HoMM 3: Restoration of Erathia with a few enhancements.
(1) Restoration of Erathia only? Not the complete package?
- That's right. Many people will not recommend this Steam version as it does not include Shadow of Death and Armageddon's Blade, as well as all the new stuff that came in those expansions (most notably new units + elemental faction). For those looking for the complete package, the offering on GOG is recommended.
- However, I own a copy of the Homm 3 Complete on GOG, but I still appreciate having this vanilla version on Steam. That's because when I first played it way back in the day, it was only the base game Restoration of Erathia that I played. I only wanted the original eight factions; I didn't want a ninth faction. Also, I don't like the elemental faction. Also, I don't like the added random different unit types that don't belong to any town. The addition of all these extra units makes the diplomacy skill a little less useful, as you are less likely to run into enemies of your own faction in the overworld that will join you and augment your forces without a morale penalty.
(2) What enhancements?
- As the moniker "HD edition" implies, all the art has been remastered as higher definition images, so the picture is noticeably sharper and looks less outdated than the complete version you can get on GOG. The images were so crisp when I booted into this game for the first time a few days ago.
- Also, an important improvement is that you can set the resolution to 16:9 resolutions to match your display, rather than having to settle for big black bars on either side of your widescreen display that you get with the GOG version.
(3) Other thoughts or observations
- Dragon flies don't seem to have weaken on attack like they do in the complete edition on GOG.
- Some castle defenses don't seem to damage the enemy, or it may be that they don't at destroyed wall sections, unlike in the GOG version. Someone may wish to correct me on that if I'm wrong here.
- I don't know if it's a bug or by design, but when I tried sifting sarcophagi and tombs with a necromancer hero (haven't tried other faction heroes yet), the morale debuff seemed to be gone later, rather than sticking with the hero.
- I don't know if it's just me, but it seems more difficult to get the choice of skills I want on my heroes upon leveling up.
- In large maps with lots of enemies, transitioning from the mid- to late game without dimension door is a slog.
- The battle animations in this version feel slightly laggy but not enough to be annoying.
Verdict
- This may be an unpopular opinion, but this is now my preferred way to play Heroes 3 because of the two reasons above (original 8 factions only + visual enhancements and modern display-matching resolution options).
This is not complete edition! So no random map generator, campaign only of Restoration of Erathia.. How you can make HD version and dont make complete edition? I know this is written in the description but why?

It's an epic, historical step in the game industry. Love this game.
BUT it seems that cloud saves are not supported in 2024 on steam so it's not possible to play on all your devices which is a stopper for me.
The game itself is legendary. This HD version, unfortunately, is not. This Ubi crap is incomplete. Waste of money, get the GOG version instead.

I would like to advise against playing Heroes of Might and Magic III HD Edition. After some time, the game stopped launching, despite my efforts to verify the integrity of the files and adjust the resolution and settings from the welcome screen. I'm quite disappointed with this version and strongly recommend not wasting your money on it.
A classic that is both simple and entertaining. There are people who are still playing this competitively....
I've been playing this game since high school. If compared to every other game I've ever played .This is the game that I spend the most time playing in my life. No need to say how much I like it.
For me, this game is super replayable. It’s an awesome way to relive a classic, and the updated visuals give it a fresh look while keeping the same strategic depth and fun that made the original so great. It’s the perfect blend of nostalgia and modern polish!
Nostalgic, retro game play. I remember playing this game 20 years ago and found the old CDrom in the back of a closet a few years back. Tried loading it onto Windows 10 but it was not compatible. Once I found it on Steam I immediately purchased it, downloaded it, started playing it and remember how fun it was.
I particularly enjoy the variety of strategic options that are possible to achieve success.
It's a marvelous game. It improves a lot the second game, adding more units, races, strategies, creatures, everything.
It seems also it's the best one in the series, and I can see why.
The only problem is that Steam version is not the complete one, so if you look for the whole package, you have to go to other place.
However, it's a game 10 out of 10
truly a portal to my childhood. this game is still fun for when I need to slow things down and spend hours building up my throngs of minions and destroying neighboring kingdoms with no code of honor. I played this on the pc when I was a single digit age and life was full of possibilities. Now I get to live there whene'er I do please to retake the realm. thanks for this

Game is amazing but you the better version is cheaper on gog.com and comes with all the official expansions where as this game is the base game only. Other than that, its amazing to play 4k Homm3
Easy to understand and very nice game play. Updated graphics is easier to see.
