Описание
In the first game by The Working Parts, a lone frog descends into the depths of a flooded forest, not yet knowing the full extent of its tragedy. To survive in a brutal, oxygen-obsessed ecosystem, you must help it see the patterns and hidden truths that make up the rules of the forest - horrible as they may be.
They Breathe is a critically acclaimed indie gem risen from the depths of Xbox Live Indie Games. In thirty short minutes, the game leaves it up to you to figure out every part of its increasingly bizarre universe, in order to survive the onslaught of unexpected creatures and ultimately comprehend their true nature. No matter how your descent to the bottom of the forest takes shape, it is guaranteed to give you the chills without a single word of dialog.
Keep your eyes open, for there is darkness beneath the surface. And you're not at the bottom yet.

Soundtrack 10/10
Gameplay 10/10
Frogs 11/10
This game has a deep spot in my precious resource chest.
I always wondered what playing one of those fish screensavers would feel like, but it's not as fun as I thought.

This is one of the best games I've ever played, and the only game I would truly describe as an experience. It's so good at making you uncomfortable and uneasy, but it's never in your face scary or anything of the sort. It just tosses you into a ruined, parasitic ecosystem and lets you handle it yourself. No hints, no tutorials, hell, not even any real music once you've abandoned the surface of the water. It's just you, and the water + its many contents. If you know nothing about this game, i implore, no, i BEG you to play it blind. This game is an amazing horror experience, and should not be passed up, especially not for 2 dollars.

While it's an okay, if more than a bit non-engaging game art and atmosphere I rather enjoyed, when played normally, this is one of those games that's absolutely DESTROYED by an achievement so objectively unfair, I have serious doubts the developers even tried to get on their own, as if they did, they're either absolute masters of their own work, or otherwise implemented it by “Virtue” of “Eh, somebody'll get it” without having actually made sure anyone could do so.
The achievement in-question is “It's the Frogs!”, which requires you to awkwardly push literally every frog around until it gets enough air to swim upwards. Is this already sounding completely non-fun and anti-player? Good, because it somehow gets worse.
In this game, it was apparently never thought to lock you, the player, and the frogs you need to rescue, onto the space of the screen, meaning you better hope that you can keep them visible to you at all times, and in the game space throughout the entire you need to hope they're pushed in the direction you want them to be shoved, because if they're shoved off the top, they're not swimming back in.
Additionally, because yeah, this isn't the only flaw, enemies can swim off-screen to grab them, causing them to linger where you've no hope in hell of doing literally anything but restarting, because the enemies that captured them aren't coming back in until said frogs are dead.
Even if you do somehow luck out and have one survive, you still have wave 14 to contend with, where two frogs come in on opposite sides of the screen, ripe for enemies to take them to BOTH places you can only restart and hope RNG smiles upon you, oh, but even in this seemingly impossible instance, even in the final wave, if you somehow have the amazing “luck” to pause after you've died as I did, you'll find all the effort, all the time, all the frustration you've endured got you not the chance to suffer through trying this wave on a restart...but literally every option doing nothing when pressed in the pause menu, and the complete lack of ability to unpause and try restarting again.
Yep; not only was this seemingly never tested, you can have all your suffering undone at a moment's notice by a game breaking bug that renders you unable to do anything but Alt-f4.
Your character has both forelegs completely open, and no reason exists why the frogs cannot be grabbed.
Even a cursory attempt at getting the achievements shows the design of the game is flawed on a fundamental level.
If merely pausing at an inopportune moment was enough to render the player unable to do anything but Alt + F4, undoing 40 minutes of work.
...I have serious doubts over whether any playtesting was even considered.
Verdict: HEAVILY. RECOMMENDED. AGAINST. No game should be in this sorry a state literal 10 years after its release, and the only “playing” of it I'll do in the future is idle for cards, then contemplate ousting this anti-player mess from my account.
The fact they updated it in 2021 to add multiplayer shows hope that these issues can be changed in the future, but as it stands nothing this inconsiderate to the efforts of those trying to perfect is worth anyone's time, I feel.
Simple delivery on premise. Unnerving with excellent sound and music. Feels like an old arcade game on flash crossed with the simple, atmospheric, aquatic horror of Ecco. Offers a quick breather (pun intended) from the wide variety of more complex and expensive software you could be waiting to throw a couple bucks at. Well worth the price.
A short game that's uncomfortable as hell.
I can't breathe
