I can't believe I never played this DLC.
Negative review until achievements are added to the Steam version of the game.
Completed the story it just under 3 hours, so it is the shortest AC I've played. Its fun for a DLC game.
Got this as a standalone instead of with Black Flag, and I still had lots of fun.
If you are looking to get 100% achievements for Black Flag, this is the wrong version of the game. Go play the DLC from the AC IV DLC page within Black Flag itself. (Main menu top right.)
This shit so buggy! story too short and worst of all, there is no achievement or any need to upgrade any kind of weapon. so upgrading them is useless!
Assassin's Creed Freedom Cry is a very fitting stand-alone DLC to Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag, and arguably a required play prior to playing Assassin's Creed Rogue, as it pertains to Edward Kenway's former first mate and quartermaster of the Jackdaw. Although the story is an isolated incident that is fairly irrelevant to the over-arcing plot, both in the past and present--which this stand-alone doesn't have a modern day, nor Erudito the way Liberation does--it does still provide some levels of context, such as what Adéwalé has been up to as an Assassin, following his departure from the Jackdaw. Furthermore, it reveals where he got his unique furnished brig.
The story is nothing particularly special, again, being an isolated incident, but it's engaging nonetheless, and covers touchy topics with Adé that one may have thought up while listening to certain dialogue about slaves and slave traders in Black Flag. This game provides a graphically realistic window into a darker side of colonial history, while providing details in the form of database entries, which is something Black Flag barely touched on. It also provides you the opportunity to immerse yourself as a fellow or ally to the Maroons, as you liberate slaves and watch many join the Maroons. This progression is visible not just in the way of statistics and rewards, but seeing more Maroons at their mountainous headquarters.
I will say, however, Adéwalé's fighting style, although very brutal, is oddly slow. Perhaps the developers wanted to give a sense of brutality against slavers and French soldiers, however this can make combat very tedious, especially since the combat is animation based and not damage based. You have to complete a set of attacks on an enemy before they die. Interrupting your attack on one causes their invisible health to regenerate to full as though you didn't just slash their chest with a machete. The stats for the machetes just seem mostly low, except for one you can find which has perfect stats. Compared to the combat of both Black Flag and Rogue, it will be very tedious for some. Fortunately, Adéwalé does come equipped with your typical Assassin's tools, as well as a blunderbuss for crowd clearing.
A final detail I want to touch on is the absence of sea shanties. Now, the game does provide some beautiful tunes by the plantation slaves, both immersing you and providing some music as you go about liberating them, however there aren't any tunes when aboard your ship. Fortunately you'll play most of the game on land with this title, but it's something worth noting for anyone expecting vocal music on the seas.
Overall, I'd say Freedom Cry is a worthy title to play, especially if you enjoyed either Black Flag or Rogue. I enjoyed playing it, and as always, the scenery is beautiful--especially with high graphics settings. You may have to play more cautiously, or at least more tactically, when dealing with the slower combat, but it's still a fun experience.
Shorter than my relationships
7/10
For those who played Assassin's Creed Black Flag on Nintendo Wii U and loved it. I believe that version does not include Freedom Cry story line.
after ubisoft pulled shenanigans to make sure you cant pick this dlc up for the best price as part of AC Black Flag, I still played it as a standalone game. Its barely 10 hours of content especially since theres no point to getting 100% for the achievements, NPCs spawn in on-screen in the middle of a streetfight, the final mission was over in 5 seconds because I shot some guards and the boss came running straight into my fist (bad mission design that is noticeable in all the missions, the story is lame too). The good parts: the machete combat is absolutely brutal, and there was a glitch where during the Repair Ship cutscene the guy firing the cannon somehow died lol that was the highlight of my playthrough
I mean it's not bad? But it's also not great? If it's on sale it's worth it I suppose. I got around 92% completion in around 8 hours casually, so it's not long.
such a good game!!!! somehow this 2014 ubisoft pirate game is better then their 2024 skull and bones pirate game... weird
Old time Assassin's creed fun a short brutal cry for freedom. Still nice to be discovered in 2024.
runs poorly
For those who are not sure about the game, here are a few things that might help.
- The game is good in the sense that it shines a bit of light on the lives of slaves back then. People tend to forget. The last two missions are especially good.
- Cons:
- The game play is not as good as the other main games.
- Fights and other movements are not as smooth as main games.
- Ship movement and fights are not the same as Black Flag. They are not bad, but are not able to catch the same sensation, feeling as Black Flag did.
Other notable mentions:
Money is not really an issue,
Hunting animals and sea creatures like sharks really does not have any purpose.
Just by sinking boats and doing the main quest you get everything you need.
Pretty Much an Black Flag DLC, following Adewale’s journey. The game plays beautifully as Black Flag did and the story is very short yet decent.
its a really short dlc with a short story, and does not have any abstergo lore or even any justification as to why we are playing the simulation of adewale in this scenario. I did miss AC4 and it scratched that urge for a couple of hours for less than 3$ so i guess its alright.
Never buy it at full price or even play it if you are expecting any meaningful lore. If u just miss AC4 and want a quick reskin then shoot when its on sale.
small game similar to Assassin's Creed Black Flag but smaller
Saint Adewale
Sink ships, kick ass and free the slaves. Its a shame that this game is short af.
THANK YOU STEAM & UBISOFT.
short game play it cause its free
Adewale rules
I'm so mad this used to be a DLC, so short but so good
good game an short story
As a DLC for AC: Black flag this is... Fine. As a standalone game, absolutely not worth it. This is AC: Black flag but worse in every conceivable way. It'll take you less than 6 hours to finish, maybe 7 or 8 if you want to 100% it. The missons are boring as hell though so I don't know why you'd want to. I wouldn't pay any more than $1 for this, and only if you LOVED Black Flag.

Good game. It took almost 5 hours to close it
I just finished AC4 (again) and decided to try this out since I had never played it before. I got it on sale for quite cheap, so it seemed worth it.
I really like it so far, though I'm not super far into it. The mechanics are all AC4 so that's very familiar, and Adewale is someone you know from that story.
Honestly Port Au'Prince looks beautiful, and I enjoyed the plantation raid. Slave ship liberation was a nice touch but it's not so different from plundering in AC4. The story and voice acting are really good! I also really love the new weapons, the machete and blunderbuss which make this feel unique. But it's more than that... Ade has a bunch of uniqueness if you look out for it. The way he kicks chests open is different than Edward Kenway, for example. There's a special new sound for synchronizations as well that is pretty thematic. They did some really good work on this.
I've heard it's very short and focuses mostly on freeing numbers of slaves to unlock the next mission in which you free more slaves. That seems true so far, but I don't mind because it is fun and you I quite enjoy stabbing slavers and freeing the slaves. The ambiance is really great, the slaves whistle and sing in the fields, the overseers have a lot of cruelty in their animations. It says I'm at about 54% of the way through the story and I've spent about 3 or 4 hours playing, so we will see how long that actuallly is. Of course I haven't been chasing chests or sailing around, either.
Don't get me wrong this is uncomfortable historical material, but I think they did a wonderful job with it. I wish it were longer, now that I've gotten into it. I so wish they had found a way to make this a full game and bring Aveline de'Grandpre back into the mix as well! I can really see potential with this. The devs who worked on it really cared about presenting this material in an authentic fashion, and it shows. I 100% recommend playing through this if you have finished AC4.
Ubisoft is the most consumer-exploitative business in gaming, constant issues with connect and managing my account.
Best DLC. Atmosphere is great in terms of the look in the weather and the life of slaves. World architecture is okay because well what is there in a colonial island anyway. Gameplay same as Black Flag of course. Adewale is distinguished due to his machete and blunderbuss which make for a great angry ex-slave powerful and aggressive style. Quests take you through a little bit of the horror of the lives of the slaves so that's great. Worth a try when on sale and if you are a die hard AC fan.
I will highly recommend this game for low end pc as the graphics of this game is highly promissing and easily runs in low end pc
Assasin's Creed: Freedom Cry is not a great game it is just DLC for Black Flag but you cannot purchase it on steam you have to buy the standalone version. I say if you want to buy this game pick it up when its on sale for less than $5 and play Black Flag before. You play as Adewale a pirate turned assassin during the events of Black Flag and most of the game you are just freeing slaves in story missions and freeing slaves to progress to the next story mission. The side content is just freeing slaves from captors, freeing slaves from ships or freeing slaves from plantations there's not really much to do. This game could literally be beaten in an afternoon so if you're looking for a quick game to play and beat then this might be the game for you but don't expect there to be much when it comes to story and gameplay.
is a good game. but I don't recommend this game at all because the game is very short.
I recommend to buy the Assassin Creed Black Flag. Because the freedom cry is just DLC
to the full game Black flag. But some how UBISOFT See this game have to be standalone
Really I love this game because is it one of my childhood games. For that I bought it to play it
Because i never Finsh the game to now is this Short. For that get scam from UBISOFT.
I'm talking about the story not side mission and even with the side mission the game short
Very fun but the climbing controls are a bit hard to finger out
My old laptop exploded trying to run this game. Still had fun.
Funny slave game hehe
It's a DLC that has "Standalone Game" stamped on the cover, do not buy this if you're expecting more than 5 hours of enjoyable game play out of it.
The first boat they give you can immediately go toe-to-toe with the strongest boats you'll ever fight and the first weapons you have are the only ones you'll ever need. Any upgrades not spoon fed to you for free are quite cheap and make the boat nearly indestructible.
I found myself constantly thinking "after this mission the map is going to open up, then I'll sail around and do whatever I want!" Then after 9 missions, the game was over.
Most importantly there were 0 sea shanties or 0 songs of any kind.
I wanted to recommend it because I had fun with it, but I couldn't think of anything positive to say about it.
It's an incredibly lazy dlc, that offers no new contrent whatsoever, except for an incredibly short and uninteresting story, with no character development whatsoever.
All in all in only a huge downgrade from the base game, ie:
-you can still hunt, but only rabbit and iguanas
-you can still dive, but only one level
-you can still go after enemy ships, but there are really easy
-there are incredibly few weapons, really just 1 gun in 3 variations, and 1 sword in 4 levels.
-the extra locations on the map you can visit are no more interesting than the tiny bits of sands in the base game, since you can't really explore them and they only have 1 or 2 chests.
-there aren't even any side missions
Also it's still buggy, mostly sound cutting away, but also 1 game breaking bug, which is quite a lot for like a 7 hour game.
Per hour of content this game is quite expensive as well, and that while basically none of this isn't more interesting than a reskin of stuff you can do in the base game.
Boring Missions, Boring Story. Thats all I have to say
I've been wanting to play this DLC for years and now it's finally a Standalone game. This game combines the best elements from the old AC games with the best elements from the new AC games.
DEFINITELY WORTH the $3 I paid for it!
can't play due to the pass key bs
Adewale is a fun character that was really good in AC4 and is really good now. Obviously short because its a DLC but still good 6/10
Surprised at the mechanical changes for this DLC, they were pretty big and fun
It was so boring..
No idea, no points, this game smells
Игры похожие на Assassin's Creed Freedom Cry
