Continue the saga of Black Flag and fight against Slavery. The Soundtrack is Dope AF. Definitely Recommended!!!
All the fun game play of Black flag put into a short and tiny map that completely focuses on free slaves.
It's great.
This game is a nostalgia mine
Short game but good, not enough time to bore you of the mechanics, a story delivered properly and quickly.

Assassin's Creed Freedom Cry, set in 1735, attempts to expand on the established Assassin’s Creed formula but ultimately falls short of delivering a compelling experience. While the concept of a standalone story centered around Adewale is intriguing, the execution feels rushed and underdeveloped. With a brief runtime and lack of meaningful innovation, the game struggles to justify its existence as a separate title rather than just a DLC. The potential for a gripping and unique narrative is present but never fully realized.
The story follows Adewale, a former slave turned Assassin, as he fights against the oppressive system of slavery in the Caribbean. While the premise is powerful and emotionally charged, the narrative feels shallow due to its limited scope. The character development is minimal, and the overall pacing makes it difficult to become truly invested. Important themes are present but are not explored with the depth they deserve, making the storytelling feel incomplete.
Gameplay largely follows the standard Assassin’s Creed mechanics, but with a noticeable lack of polish. The combat and stealth elements feel repetitive, offering little to differentiate themselves from past entries. The ship-based mechanics, while enjoyable in Black Flag, feel less impactful here due to the game’s limited world. Missions often rely on tedious objectives, making the experience feel more like a chore rather than an exciting expansion of the series.
Visually, the game looks decent, but it does not bring anything new to the table. The environments feel reused from Black Flag, giving the impression of a recycled world rather than a fresh setting. Character models and animations appear stiff at times, and graphical inconsistencies occasionally break immersion. While the Caribbean aesthetic remains vibrant, it lacks the level of detail that could make it truly stand out.
Overall, Assassin's Creed Freedom Cry fails to leave a lasting impression due to its rushed execution and lack of depth. The story, while thematically important, does not receive the attention it deserves, leading to an underwhelming narrative experience. Gameplay mechanics feel uninspired and repetitive, while the visuals do little to elevate the experience beyond familiarity. Despite its potential, the game ultimately feels like an afterthought rather than a meaningful addition to the franchise.
Assassin's Creed Freedom Cry gets a 3/10.

Hope you enjoyed my review, god bless you
Me, a slave turned assassin, spreading freedom with a machete and cannonballs !
Assassin’s Creed Freedom Cry is kind of like taxes: it hits hard, breaks chains, but this time, I decide where it lands !
we wuz pirates n shieet
The game is short and sometime if you board in the enemies ship the combat is clunky but overall it is a good game I don't know why they make this short it has potential story and protagonist still recommended if you are an ac fan
Pretty good, not too long, fun things to do like exploring and diving, raiding ships and liberating plantations and a decent story revolving around saving slaves
Another ubisoft product that isnt adapted to modern systems. dont waste the money to purchase unless you want to play on winxp or older. getting very tired of games from this company that have to run past the time limit for a refund before finding out they dont work and unable to give review warning other possible purchasers. Sounds like greed and unethical business practice to me, I suggest avoiding purchase of any ubisoft product that is older than the os that you are currently using.
a pc port of a console game with no controller support LOL
good
Great game. I love the new addition of steam achievements.
nearly 100% the game, definitely worth playing just like a slim down standalone blackflag oriented around slaves
very sick game would reccomend
Nice one time play
Its a great but short game on its own. If you like Black Flag this is basically just more Black Flag but smaller. There are much less characters (though they are really good) and the story is super short. The map is tiny with basically one small city being the biggest setllement and a bunch of tiny 1 chest island, a shipwreck, and 3 of those loot the farm missions from the base games.
The story is good and it gets the message across even if its a bit too in your face imo. Buy it on sale its great.
for 30 min in the game, the story is not seems to be interesting, but the fight mechanic seems to be fun
With achievements finally back to this game I returned to 100% it, as it doesn't have multiplayer requirements like Black Flag, but to my horrifying discovery, unless you turn of Steam Cloud Saves, all of those achievements pop up immediately upon starting the game. Now I just don't feel like there's any point in playing anymore.
Disable Cloud Save if you've played it on Steam before.
Boring ahh sh*te.
Achievements got added!
Just the same mission over and over shouldn't be a standalone title much rather it be just DLC for blackflag
Great Story and Fun Gameplay
I wanted to like this game. The concept is pretty cool. A free slave freeing other slaves and recruiting them to his cause. What sucks is the mission design. It is god awful. When will ubisoft learn that tailing missions are the most boring and frustrating mission on planet earth? All AC games up to this point are guilty of it to some degree, but in Freedom Cry it seems like more than half of these missions is just following an NPC arround and hoping noone catches you.
You play as a trans racial dude identifying as a freed black slave who liberates other slaves.
5 slaves freed: 10 social credit points
20 slaves freed: your water cooler banter is elevated
50 slaves freed: you have reached Rachel Dolezal level
100 slaves freed: ahhhh woke nirvana
1000 slaves freed: offer of employment from Ubisoft tomorrow.
I feel this is ACs best DLC. Adéwalé was my favourite character in AC4 so a chance to follow him as an assassin is great. The missions are simple yet engaging. 100% grind is enjoyable and short. Not much more to say its a good DLC and i'm glad it is standalone.
Every one just really like Black Flag. They need more! In the quest to expand on the lore of Assassin Creed 4. Ubisoft developed this DLC for the game. However on steam or other platforms, they are selling it as a “Stand Alone Game” so we going look at that. Haiti is a Tiny islands so you will be a hopping and skipping around. It’s about 1/10 of the black flag map so not a lot of exploring. The main focus is that Adewale , want to set his African brother out of the hands of Templar oppressors and plantations. The more men you set free the more crew member you get in the game. It is also used to progress the story more so you should tackle all of the plantations when you can. Adewale plays just like every other assassin in the franchise. He does get a blunder bust to shot people with which is cool and a machete. Over all this game does not add anything new to Black Flag narrative and for a “Stand alone game” is really more like a play able demo for the whole game. If you want to feel like liberating African Americans from plantations than here you go. It just should have been in base game of AC4. At this point idk what else you can do with Black Flag IP but to branch off and just make pirate games. Which they should have down but instead they go down the rabbit hole some more. 2/5
yes
Is Gud.
Caught it on sale. No depth to the storyline. Incredibly short. I see no reason to continue exploring the map. This never should have been turned into a stand-alone.
One of the worst games in the franchise.
A poor copy of Black Flag. This is AC: Black flag but worse in every conceivable way.
And for a price of 15 euros it is extremely expensive for what it offers.
If you want a game like Assassin’s Creed® Black flag better get Assassin’s Creed® Rogue which is superior in every way to this crappy game.
The game is really realistic. Nothing is visible at night. (This is the third time I'm playing the DLC version of the AC4)
Good game, not as good as Unity tho
I bought it seperate since buying the DLC version of Black Flag was 3x as expensive.
That said, this DLC literally Black Flag lite (just more stable). Ade feels a bit more nimble and more brutal than Edward, but the rest is more of the same. Since I liked Black Flag, I obviously like this. The story is also great albeit extremely short.
Is the DLC worth the price? that's debatable, as the story won't take you more than 4 hours.
Assassin’s Creed <3
I can't believe I never played this DLC.
Negative review until achievements are added to the Steam version of the game.
Completed the story it just under 3 hours, so it is the shortest AC I've played. Its fun for a DLC game.
Got this as a standalone instead of with Black Flag, and I still had lots of fun.
If you are looking to get 100% achievements for Black Flag, this is the wrong version of the game. Go play the DLC from the AC IV DLC page within Black Flag itself. (Main menu top right.)
This shit so buggy! story too short and worst of all, there is no achievement or any need to upgrade any kind of weapon. so upgrading them is useless!
Assassin's Creed Freedom Cry is a very fitting stand-alone DLC to Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag, and arguably a required play prior to playing Assassin's Creed Rogue, as it pertains to Edward Kenway's former first mate and quartermaster of the Jackdaw. Although the story is an isolated incident that is fairly irrelevant to the over-arcing plot, both in the past and present--which this stand-alone doesn't have a modern day, nor Erudito the way Liberation does--it does still provide some levels of context, such as what Adéwalé has been up to as an Assassin, following his departure from the Jackdaw. Furthermore, it reveals where he got his unique furnished brig.
The story is nothing particularly special, again, being an isolated incident, but it's engaging nonetheless, and covers touchy topics with Adé that one may have thought up while listening to certain dialogue about slaves and slave traders in Black Flag. This game provides a graphically realistic window into a darker side of colonial history, while providing details in the form of database entries, which is something Black Flag barely touched on. It also provides you the opportunity to immerse yourself as a fellow or ally to the Maroons, as you liberate slaves and watch many join the Maroons. This progression is visible not just in the way of statistics and rewards, but seeing more Maroons at their mountainous headquarters.
I will say, however, Adéwalé's fighting style, although very brutal, is oddly slow. Perhaps the developers wanted to give a sense of brutality against slavers and French soldiers, however this can make combat very tedious, especially since the combat is animation based and not damage based. You have to complete a set of attacks on an enemy before they die. Interrupting your attack on one causes their invisible health to regenerate to full as though you didn't just slash their chest with a machete. The stats for the machetes just seem mostly low, except for one you can find which has perfect stats. Compared to the combat of both Black Flag and Rogue, it will be very tedious for some. Fortunately, Adéwalé does come equipped with your typical Assassin's tools, as well as a blunderbuss for crowd clearing.
A final detail I want to touch on is the absence of sea shanties. Now, the game does provide some beautiful tunes by the plantation slaves, both immersing you and providing some music as you go about liberating them, however there aren't any tunes when aboard your ship. Fortunately you'll play most of the game on land with this title, but it's something worth noting for anyone expecting vocal music on the seas.
Overall, I'd say Freedom Cry is a worthy title to play, especially if you enjoyed either Black Flag or Rogue. I enjoyed playing it, and as always, the scenery is beautiful--especially with high graphics settings. You may have to play more cautiously, or at least more tactically, when dealing with the slower combat, but it's still a fun experience.
Shorter than my relationships
7/10
For those who played Assassin's Creed Black Flag on Nintendo Wii U and loved it. I believe that version does not include Freedom Cry story line.
after ubisoft pulled shenanigans to make sure you cant pick this dlc up for the best price as part of AC Black Flag, I still played it as a standalone game. Its barely 10 hours of content especially since theres no point to getting 100% for the achievements, NPCs spawn in on-screen in the middle of a streetfight, the final mission was over in 5 seconds because I shot some guards and the boss came running straight into my fist (bad mission design that is noticeable in all the missions, the story is lame too). The good parts: the machete combat is absolutely brutal, and there was a glitch where during the Repair Ship cutscene the guy firing the cannon somehow died lol that was the highlight of my playthrough
I mean it's not bad? But it's also not great? If it's on sale it's worth it I suppose. I got around 92% completion in around 8 hours casually, so it's not long.
such a good game!!!! somehow this 2014 ubisoft pirate game is better then their 2024 skull and bones pirate game... weird
Old time Assassin's creed fun a short brutal cry for freedom. Still nice to be discovered in 2024.
