most of the game is staring at cards be shuffled so you don't immediately lose because you landed on the same bad card 3 times in a row that you lose automatically if you say no.
controls are clunky and you'll often get stun locked in combat meaning you just wasted the entire run and get to do nothing as you watch you character die.
you'll also get to do the same event over and over again because you either won too hard to get the token or you didn't win hard enough to get the token.
overall it is an interesting concept that is executed poorly.
Устаревший перевод (русский). Неприятно было узнать об этом, заметив несоответствие свойства предмета, а затем сверив с английской версией. Очень жаль, что переводы не обновляют с изменением баланса.
It's so close to being good, I came back to try it out after taking a long break. There is a bit too much RNG and the combat/camera is very clunky at times. I'm hope HOF2 fixes those issues though, it would be an easy recommend.
It's a shame this game didn't get any recognition, because the concept is brilliant. The combat is pretty simple, and a little clunky at times I admit, but it's servicable. The encounters are great (except when you get shit on by the game, looking at you Dark Dweller...), and the game itself (achievements included) are challenging, yet not too difficult.
fun pick up and play. Works on steamdeck
Interesting concept but bad execution. To random. Cant build progress and have to restart a lot and can get stuck. Bad controls that don't respond making you fail to move you character correct and fail challenges.
Might not have popped off like other rogue-like deckbuilders, but the concept is still pretty cool as the blended 3rd person combat was what drew me in.
In my case though, RNGesus was too strong for me.
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
With the bottom of my heart i hate this "success / fail card minigame", it completely destroys any sense of progression and immersion in a run, i'm not playing Texas hold 'em... But otherwise really interesting and engaging roguelike with unique elements.
Mate I've had better RNG playing a penny falls machine
Clunky combat where you get hit because your commands are not followed.
Horrible auto camera so you can't even see where all the enemies and traps are.
Rediculous bad dice roll streaks which can ruin any dungeon run.
At the end I started using Alt+F4 more and more when the game had a moment again.
Hand of Fate had the potential to be a truly legendary game. The concept is brilliant, the story and characters are compelling, the mechanics are clever, and even the combat is enjoyable. But one major flaw undermines the entire experience for me - the sheer frustration. Rare cards that are essential to progress or win, combined with the overtuned difficulty of the final boss, completely soured my experience.
I genuinely loved every moment of the game up until the end, but the abrupt spike in difficulty left me feeling more angry than accomplished. It’s disappointing to say this about a game I wanted so badly to finish and love, but I can’t recommend something that left me feeling this frustrated.
Really cool
It good
Combat is abysmally boring and easy - I played 3 runs and never dipped below 95/100 health. Atmosphere, dialogue, music, etc are pretty good, but this feels more like a mobile game or autobattler, and I don't really feel like watching YouTube while "playing" until the difficulty ramps up. Refunding.
Great controls. For a broom.
Fun. Just good fun.
This game kicks major ass.
Odd quirk on console, you can use two controller to control the same character, makes for some really fun and quirky two player
Ah, the game claims another victim.
I want to like this game more then I actually like it. The game play reminds me of a slower arkham game oddly mixed with a deck builder. The slow nature of it gets really old very quickly. The combat seems to be the end point of the game and it just isn't there, because it is a worse version of other games. The addition of the rogue like mechanics and the deck builder mechanics is refreshing.
The Hand of Fate is not a monkey paw.
Got both this game and the sequel on a huge discount, never heard of them before, so I figured I'd play them in order.
A super cool concept that drew me in with great voice acting from the dealer and atmospheric storytelling with the cards. The chance encounters felt fair enough and initial impressions of combat were "oh..its like Batman" (arkham games) I can deal with that.
I was a fool.
Flash forward 16 hours, almost every important encounter card only has like 25% chance of succeeding, combat is you getting clunkily mobbed to death by enemies that are doing unblockable/uncounterable attacks. You're forced to deal with "maze of traps" levels that are outright unfun and unavoidable. you start to realize that the HUGE majority of equipment cards you've unlocked are absolutely useless and you will never see in your runs. Oh, and guess what, enemies are now 3x tankier for seemingly no reason.
This game gets so frustrating, to the point it ruins literally everything else cool about it. I absolutely despise it now. I've given up on the final boss/dealer run.
I'm going to try the sequel soon and I really hope they redeem themselves, but from what I've seen of reviews for that one, I'm gonna keep my expectations low.
-----------
TLDR: What seems like a rad concept rapidly becomes one of the most frustrating and disapointing games I think Ive ever played.
good
3/10
Concept is interesting, but combat is trash.
I've heard and read people praising Hand of Fate at the time, and roguelike deckbuilders are right up my wheelhouse, so let me say this: not playing it at the time was my mistake. Truly a shame I haven't actually bought it earlier and got it for dirt cheap just recently.
It's funny to see this post-Slay The Spire scene of indie games we have nowadays and go back to a game that was made before all that trend and still offers something unique and fresh. There's an entire alternate universe where we would be going through iterations of deck based dungeon crawling and defeating minions with batman arkhan asylum real time combat, instead of turn-based battles with cards, dices, ufo catchers or whatever. I wouldn't mind that universe, and I like Slay The Spire and some of the games inspired by it!
There's probably someone who can't stand the long animations and voice lines of the card dealer or is complaining about bad luck on the card draw. That person isn't me, I wish it had more unique lines and animations, it's an unique presentation and every mistake makes me eager to rebuild my deck and try to triumph over my fate again.
Oooh, I should try the sequel, shouldn't I? I think I've got it for free on a giveaway or something...
Je recommande mais avec des pincettes : l'aspect jeu de carte est bien fichu, mais les combats sont relous et consistent généralement à placer des attaques entre les parades comme dans Assassin's Creed.

"This may be the most important post you’ll ever read because it provides a simple explanation about why our world is being destroyed, by design.
I’m not antisem itic nor a N azi. I’m simply a former hacker with great analytical skills who understands what’s happening in the world.
At the end of this post I will quote from a world domination plan. You will recognize the truth immediately because that’s what’s currently happening in the world. Today’s reality suggests that this plan is real.
When you do your own research you will learn that the origin of this plan was discredited and that the alleged creators have nothing to do with it. But who was the person providing the key evidence?
It was allen dulles. The man who raised money from US industrialists to fund Ad olf Hi tler, his Na zi party and his war. The man who later became the director of the CIA during Kennedy and the head of The Warren Commission that investigated the Kennedy Incident. Why would anybody believe a man with such a questionable character?
The protocols of the elders of zion have unquestionably borrowed ideas from several authors but you can say that about most important writings throughout history. It was called a fabrication and is one of the first uses of the term ‘conspiracy theory’.
Why do zionists have a massive over-representation in the media, politics, banking, and world-affairs? How did such a small community get to dominate all the centers of power and information?
Why can isreal ignore UN resolutions, international-law, and commit a genocide in Ga za, to standing ovations in the US Congress? Why is isreal acting like it is above the law seemingly without any fear of consequences.
Read some of the alleged zi onist world domination plan below and compare it with reality. Is all of this just a coincidence?
“Our power will be more invincible than any other, because it will remain invisible until the moment when it has gained such strength that no cunning can any longer undermine it.”
“We shall absolutely control the media, so that not a single announcement will ever reach the public without our control. In this way we shall have a sure triumph over our opponents, for without the media, they are helpless.”
“We will distract the brainless heads with vain conceptions, fantastic theories, rotten amusement, games, and filthy passions, so that they will be unable to use what intellect they have. They will never suspect that they have been stage managed by us.”
“We shall establish huge monopolies, so that all will go to ruin when the political smash-up comes. We must, at all cost, deprive them of their lands, we must lower wages, and raise the prices of all necessities of life.”
“We shall create an economic crisis, which will stop dealings in all exchanges and bring industry to a standstill. We shall throw onto the streets whole mobs of workers, simultaneously, all over the world, who will rush to loot property and delight to shed blood.”
“In our government, besides ourselves, there must only be the mass of enslaved people, a few billionaires devoted entirely to us, police, and soldiers. To do this we must create chaos and hostilities, and we must use all deceit, treachery and falseness, possible. Our greatest weapon is the media.”
“We shall establish one king over all of earth who will annihilate all causes of discord, such as borders, nationalities, religion, state debts, etc., and get peace and quiet which cannot be secured in any other way. To attain our ends we must foment trouble in all countries, utterly exhaust all of humanity with hatred, struggle, envies, torture, starvation, and diseases, so that the people will be forced to take refuge in our complete sovereignty.”
“Our master card has been, is, and shall be, the destruction of all privileges, on the ruins of which we shall set up our absolute autocracy.”

Specifically, this is what has been done, using video-games to brain-wash, indoctrinate, demoralize, and fractionalize, young(er) people who would otherwise be focused-on family and community, is IN-YOUR-FACE, now, and is openly-known to be happening with the games we buy from Steam, and others.

""How the tables have turned in the past decade. If you were involved at the inception of the culture war around a decade ago then you probably remember an abrupt and distinct change in popular media from 2015 to 2016. There was a surge of far-left and feminist propaganda in movies, television, commercials and even video games that was highly aggressive, perhaps even militant. Some people spoke out at the time and questioned the motives behind the trend, only to be smacked down by angry mobs of activists and corporate journalists with accusations of “conspiracy theory” and “bigotry.”
In other words, their claim was that you were not seeing what you thought you were seeing. There was no feminist agenda. There was no gay or trans agenda. There was no socialist messaging. It was only in your head.
If there is one rule that encompasses all political endeavors, it is this: If you have to hide your intentions and lie about your goals when trying to spread your ideology, then something is probably very wrong with your ideology. This is exactly the problem inherent in the attempt to spread woke doctrine – Activists and provocateurs never ask anyone if they want to hear about woke ideas; they seek to force everyone to see and hear woke ideas, to the point that people cannot escape the messaging.
Even more insulting is the fact that even though most of these activists claim to be fans of the media they target, they are usually discovered to be frauds. Woke ideologues have little sincere interest in nostalgia, movie making, video games, comic books, etc. They only care about these properties because they see them as a vehicle to be co-opted, infected and dominated. Leftists know well that if they control pop culture they can control the thinking of the next generation."...
Hand of Fate is a unique blend of roguelike, action, and deck-building gameplay. In it, you play against a mysterious Dealer who narrates your journey, presenting challenges and encounters through cards you collect and play. Each game unfolds differently as you navigate random events, battles, and dungeons, with the cards determining your encounters. When combat begins, the game shifts to real-time action, allowing you to fight enemies using a variety of weapons and abilities. With its dark, fantasy setting and immersive storytelling, Hand of Fate offers a fresh, dynamic experience every playthrough. It’s perfect for fans of tabletop games and action RPGs who crave a mix of strategy, luck, and skill.
90% of negative reviews are morons that dont realise they can visually track the cards as they are being shuffled in chance sections, like jfc idk how someone misses that, this game is heavily based on decisions, every one of them matters. much more thought out and more thought provoking than the mindless grindfests that I see on the store page every week, nice to play an actual game for once
(all my hours are on xbox)
Hand of Fate is one of my favorite games of all time! There is so much content and things to this game.
If you like table-top, if you like rpgs, if you like roguelike, if you like deckbuilders, if you like live action combat, if you like mini games, then this game is for you! I know this sound like a lot and it is but the game does a great job at easing you into the long game.
I love the cards, how they add stories and equipment that you keep into the game as it unfolds. I have played this game for many hours on different platforms and I have yet to unlock all content and equipment of this game. Well wroth the money and a roguelike done right imo.
Check out game play here https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLidnJYbO6Ec7Rkm2ONirdajuBwdcgy2EP
you can see the base for hand of fate 2. still good game
Very good game, great narrator.
The game is good, reminds me a bit of inscryption, but the last boss is such a tedious borefest that I it drags down the whole game with it.
very fun and unique experience
Pretty cool game to pass the time! Recommended and fun!
It's a great game, but Hand of Fate 2 exists, and is a straight improvement on all systems here.
You hop your way across cards to uncover more cards. While you can equip some cards and get some awesome bonuses other cards really screw you over.
Cards all over the shop!
Building your deck to start the next game is fun for me aswell, as I love to pick and choose and minMax as well as i can to get the most tokens to unlock all the cards!
the battle mechanic is a little clunky in my opinion, sometimes I feel like I'm steering in one direction to dodge and the game make me roll straight into the boss's attack.
I keep coming back over and over for more cards!
Surprisingly fun and simple.
fun as hell tho the deckbulding in this game sucks im ngl i wish it was more impactful
An awesome rogue-like which is different as compared to the roguelike i currently play (Slay the spire) mainly in the interactive combat and maze sections which puts you in control of your fate which was a fresh spin. I enjoyed my time with it, if you like rogue-likes, i think you will too!
This is such a cool game. It gives me vibes from my childhood, playing A Bard's Tale and Might & Magic on PC in the 80's. The animations and music are extremely well done. The combat isn't great, but you get used to it and it does have a certain amount of depth. The RNG aspect may also be one of its weaknesses and hampers replayability, but I paid €4 for this game so if I get 10-20 hours out of it completing all the stages I'm a happy camper. Overall a unqiue and well-executed concept!
It's wayyy too random no matter what they pretend in the guides. Constantly guessing for the sake of guessing end up being annoying and repetitive real fast when there are no real sense of progress.
A pretty good mix of deckbuilding roguelike and 3rd person combat, with an interesting and polished style.
There isn't too much to say about this game. The graphics are good and stylized, the music is nice, and I don't have any complaints about gameplay and balancing. The only issues I've encountered relate to the UI which can be a little weird if you are doing things too fast.
I got the game and its DLC for 4.50€ when it was on sale and I beat the story mode within 12 hours, without going for 100% (unlockable content, achievements etc.). The original price (20€) is a little too high for my own preferences, but buying it on sale feels like a steal.
It is one thing to make everything is luck based, it is another to make the RNG is so against us to the point it feels like we are fighting against a cheater dealer. No matter what your skill is, you will get screwed if RNG isn't on your side that run. Sure, it is deck building and it is part of the game, but it is pure bs if the RNG is being used solely to punish you and being unfair for artificial difficulty. Avoid this one and the dealer is pure cheater.
I first played the table top not knowing there was a game so colour me so happy when i saw this on steam and by gods its so fun and the repeatability is nuts such a good fun game
