A fun spin-off using AC3's engine.

Do not buy this. This version does not support controllers. A functional version of this game is included in AC3 remastered.
The story (and entire game) is very short, but it's fun to play through. Takes less than 30h for 100%.
Most characters stay very secondary or in the background with no depth or development, but the environments are complete and unique (I actually love the bayou, it should only be a little more dangerous). The original game mechanics are for the most part really cool to play with.
No fast travel so it's a good thing the map is small. Sidequests are just okay bordering on meh. Collectibles are not too many, but they're never given a reason in the narrative (why am i buying watches???).
Enjoyed the game quite a lot.

Okay with that out of the way; The game it self: the Graphics look good, and gameplay is decent. Finally, the story is ass. Overall not worth playing; and by not playing it you wont be missing out on anything.
This game doesn't open, The Ubisoft application opens and then shuts down. Don't waste money in buying this game entirely useless a waste of money and time, I tried and researched everything and every possible way but none of it seem to work.
Originally released on vita, and all the associated headaches were also ported over to the desktop build. Shame, shame, shame...
Love AC, hate the french drama, this one ain't my cup 'o tea.
6/10 decently fun, can't beat an older AC game. Just need to turn off Nvidia Overlay and it'll start right up. I wish this one was a little more flushed out, the story is there but falls just short a lot of the time just wish this wasn't designed as DLC and that it got the stand alone it deserves, the ending was satisfying however and there is still plenty to do in the open world for quick little activities. If you can get it on sale - totally worth it

i dont know why people grief this game its a lot of fun playing as the lady and unlocking her kit she starts off really bad and a burden to play but gets loads of skills as you progress it makes her an bit of a baddass.
the game might be short but i have not noticed i always like to replay the missions and see how well i do from other perspectives.
i bought this ages ago and its around the time they released lots of AC games every year, i just think they might be going a bit over kill im still trying to finish oddesy then im into the viking one im so behind, and i want to replay some of them, but you know i dont want to only play assassins creed. thats my only gripe, too many good games.
A horrible port of a spin off PS Vita title. Frequent crashes on top of countless glitches and don't forget the usual ubi-jank. Breaks my heart to see the game in such a horrible and barely playable state. Even though it is just a spin off title that was released for a handheld, this game had a lot going on. It introduced kill chains, has a nice story albeit rather short... Oh and I really liked the mechanic of having multiple personas that could change the gameplay dramatically and let you approach the missions in many different ways. But unfortunately the game has been long forgotten. Now the next thing will sound crazy and I can't believe I'm actually saying this, but get AC3 remastered instead of this one. AC3R is bundled with remastered Liberation and it is atrually PLAYABLE at the sacrifice of graphics (sounds wild I know). Why Ubisoft, just why...
UbiSoft is an utter joke and this game has aged like sour milk.
As a bonus the game suddenly closed and dropped to desktop because I was not active on UbiSoft CONNECT and had to sign back in. Laughable. Assassin's Creed asset flip, so it's fine for a nostalgia trip, would not pay more than 5 bucks.

Play as black woman in 1770s New Orleans ! Fun ! In this episode, you can :
-Change identities as you move through the world (cool)
-NOT carry bodies (you are weak)
-pet street dogs (but not raccoons or chickens)
-Seduce random men (why)
-Build a commercial empire (actually fun)
-Get catcalled and assaulted on the street (not fun)
-Fight with a whip and an axe (very fun)
-Fall to the ground randomly because you have no sense of direction
-See a whale, I guess
-Wrestle alligators (not actually fun, may take up to 10 minutes because it doesn't work)

Terrible interface. Still a lot of bugs, but not too inconvenient (I'm just stuck at 98% map and 99% changing rooms for some reasons). IMPORTANT NOTE : DLCS ARE NOT ACCESSIBLE ANYMORE. Thanks Ubisoft.
Anyway this is a game with a great potential, that should have been much bigger.
Assassin's Creed Liberation is an awesome game that did not get anywhere near the development time or attention it deserved.
The setting is one of the best in the series, New Orleans near the end of American slavery, and the story and characters take full advantage of that setting, creating something that you wouldn't be able to transplant into any other setting. Aveline is a fantastic protagonist--the first female Assassin's Creed protagonist ever, mind--and her role as half French aristocrat and half freed slave leads very smoothly into her passion about helping slaves and free blacks both escape from the conspiracies trying to take advantage of them.
Aveline's heritage also leads to probably the most interesting social stealth system in the series, in which you can dress as Aveline's legal persona, the daughter of her aristocrat father, and blend into high society; dress as a slave and fade into the background; or dress as an assassin and have the weaponry and freedom of movement that allows without compromising your other identities. Each persona has slightly different abilities and weaponry available to them and you can use them to complete missions in a variety of ways depending on your play style.
Revolutionary-era New Orleans also provides many of the interesting aspects of Assassin's Creed 3's open world with few of the disadvantages. The game is divided into two small maps, the city and the bayou. The city is more developed and compact than most of 3's towns, and between that and the inclusion of trees in the freerunning it's not hard to find your way around. The bayou, similarly, takes advantage of the tree-climbing with a lot of routes through the treetops if you don't want to navigate the waterways.
The story is a good one at its core, too, though admittedly I haven't finished it yet. Aveline's a cool character with a propensity for sarcasm and a passion for ending the slave trade, and she's surrounded by interesting people from all walks of life--her assassin mentor, her stepmother (I love her stepmother), her "business" partner who is definitely not hopelessly in love with her, her merchant father, the smugglers in the bayou... they're all well written and feel important to the story and to Aveline's progression as a character. And, of course, there's a conspiracy involving kidnappings and smuggling and coverups and corruption that's been keeping my interest so far, for sure, but I won't get into that for spoiler reasons (and I don't know the ending yet)
Which brings us to its lacking development. I wish I wish this could have been given the time and attention of a main-series AC game. Like I've mentioned, all the elements are there, but it all feels rushed. The maps are very small compared to other games in the series, and the freerunning just doesn't feel quite as fluid--I find myself jumping in the wrong direction or getting caught on corners and getting frustrated more often than I should. With more polish on the freerunning, I think the bayou especially could have shone as a unique environment with two distinct methods of navigation and lots of small islands to explore. There are odd blackouts when you pick up collectibles, for example, as though the game has to load in... the exact same environment you were just in, only without that one mushroom model. It's just sort of odd and stilted.
The narrative, too, feels rushed. It's a good story, but I find myself wishing for more development of this plot point or that one, or thinking that this character arc could have been so interesting if they'd fleshed it out more; and it's such a shame, because the voice actors did an awesome job with the script they were given.
This is such a unique entry in the Assassin's Creed series that could have been so much more than it is, and I wish Ubisoft had been willing to take the chance and invest the time and money to make it feel complete. There's so much potential here; I'm having fun playing it, but there's a sense of loss throughout for what could have been.
The game won't start. Ubisoft launcher appears couple times and disappear and no launch.
The game is set in New Orleans/Bayou at the time of great slavery where the assassin Aveline must rescue the force of liberation for those in need but on this journey she will have to decide between the divided paths that are in her life.
Aveline, a Gemini, is divided into different personalities. In this game you can be a lady, a slave or an assassin. Both have different submission options and certain story missions.
The collectibles range from the famous chests, coins, vodoo dolls, Mayan statues and the sacred 10 pocket watches which can only be bought at a high cost and to get them the tip is to travel with various naval fleets in the interesting financing system.
The game features a special mission that crosses the timeline with Conor in New York where in one of the memories you can play with him. You can also visit Mexico at Chichen Itza in two sequences where the ancient temples of the ancients await and apparently the only interesting part of the whole game.
The travel systems don't work in this one, where you have to walk from place to place in order to continue your journey, which makes it much more tedious.
The game has an interesting financing system (which you'll desperately need if you want to platinum the game) where you have a map that can send certain ships and products to different locations.
The atmosphere of the game has never been so welcomingly impoverishing where, while crossing the branches of the Bayou, you find yourself stuck in simple bushes. The composition is decent and makes a mark on the culture.
The game that ended up changing the aesthetic of characters outside the animus and with more than one ending to be acquired, Assassins Creed Liberation without the hd and sense of the old games. A television soap opera story where you're more likely to squint your eyes in boredom than feel cozy.
*I've tried playing the game now in 2024 again and I've had problems starting up and with the initial controls.
If you have the same problem, give it a try:
-On the disk where the game is stored on your computer, go to ac3lhd_32 and in its properties followed by the compatibility tab. Select:
! Run this program in compatibility mode (Windows 8/7);
! Disable full-screen optimizations
! Run this program as administrator
- If the controls don't work when you start the game, try using steam and ubisoft in administrator mode.
I hope I've helped. Given the circumstances of a new remaster over there, this and assassins creed lll tend to be on the brink of doom for the saga and require an acceptable patch to work.
