Short review: Welp, that's an hidden gem right there!
An RPG turn-based strategy where strategy, items and placements are way more relevant than stupid grindy mechanics (and the story is really cool.... despite not having a sequel!)
don't get me wrong, it's nearly not perfect but it is quite the oddity, and something 'fresh' (despite being decades old), rarely seen in the videogame market.
Just one thing: don't get alienated by the high difficulty at the start, not after long the game gets way easier but still fun!

Very fun turn-base game! Dialogues are great, and the story is well put together. Due to the age of the game, unfortunately it will not work for everyone. The first time I tried multiple things, run in compatibility mode, run as an admin. Some months later, 'luckily' Windows failed for me for a different reason and I had to do a fresh reinstall. I though I would try this game once more, and what do you know. it worked right away.
Yes, there might be some graphical glitches (again, the game's got some age), but that does not take away from the fun. Run it in Software mode
So if you can get it to work on your machine, I'd say it's definitely worth it.

One of my flawed favorite childhood games.

i have a dream of finding the developers and paying them to make part 2 of this game cant wrap my mind around the idea that it isnt happened yet

Absolute classic. Great soundtrack, tons of cool weapons, and a bunch of boss levels. 10/10

Sadly an incredibly dated game that has issues with even just properly running on modern systems, let alone offering good enough experience to begin with.

There are certainly very interesting and unique aspects to this game. Having a turn-based RPG with modern warfare units, limited supplies and enemy encounters, makes for a very distinctive long-term strategizing not seen in most games of this genre, if any. There's also a very eerie atmosphere that instantly pulls you in, even all these decades later.

However everything surrounding few of these standouts is a mess. Awful localization makes it difficult to even follow the basic narrative of the game, that is if there was any to follow beyond the initial setup, since 90% of the actual exposition is in the final dialogue before the game just ends. The enemy design is super random without any consistency, let alone one matching the bare bones worldbuilding. And of course the visuals have aged about as poorly as anything else in here.

Not worth it unless you have big nostalgia goggles and the determination to beat the unbeatable game of your childhood.

If you ever wondered what would happen if you cross a survival horror with an SRPG, then this game is for you for a low price. Just be aware that it is an old budget game and very janky and pretty short. It's too bad that its squeals threw everything this game did in a bid and opted for generic TPS war games.

Absolutely recommend. A huge part of my childhood. Still very much playable, great and interesting story. A staple example of an old school RPG.
