I enjoyed the game, however I had to force myself to do so.
I'll elaborate: Not only is this game very very slow, it is also very buggy and un-optimized. Crashes are very frequent and I'd say almost completely prevent you from playing in the hardest settings which only save at the end of the day. End of the day tends to crash one times out of three even on a very good system so unless you have the patience to deal with that and loosing what could be an extremely good day out then, don't try it.
Enemy turns are way too slow compared to any other game of this style. This needs to be (and hopefully will) be addressed in a patch.
Tutorials are a joke. Information is not provided when it should be. (End game conditions are met but you are not informed they are, allies can die at a certain date when you have never heard about them at all etc.)
If you can look past the jankiness and have the patience to stick with the game then you can find your fun.
It is, after all, a great representation of what the apocalypse would look like under these conditions: The risks are balanced with reward, the drudgery of every day life in the shelter are plainly visible and the messages you can gather in the field left by the remnant of society are interesting. (However, the hacking minigame is bad and needs to be reworked)
There is a distinct lack of feeling of overpowerness at the end of the game that may piss off some of us. (I had a character with maxed stats and the best gear in the game that felt like it wasn't doing any better than some of the best enemies). I would argue it's a good thing because then you still have to play the game until the end but, once again, one could counterargue that in the end game you have to fight 10 to 1 so, hey?
Overall, I'm glad I checked guides early to complete the whole game and all the achievements in one go because even though I've enjoyed the game, the last 50% of it were such a chore, I'm never revisiting this ever again.
Oh and the game definitely needs an ending. There is none. One paragraph of white text on black background is an apology from EA not a suitable ending to a game.
Edited because I can't spell...
I choose to not refund it, hoping that the devs will hire somebody else to fix it. It crushes so many times that is beyond belief and fantasy. If they fix it will be a very good one.
This is my favorite story-based zombie survival game out there - and it actually kinda sucks, but I love it anyway. Pretty much abandoned and very buggy. The game doesn't even have very great gameplay, but I've found it to be very enjoyable, and I kinda hope someone will make a mod or something that fixes this mess some day.
A great game that puts together the zombie apocalypse and X-COM like turn based combat. The game is enjoyable. It works well on Steam Deck, but has crashes at every location and every 15 minutes on Windows 11. I remember first time I played this game in 2014 when it was first released. And there were no such huge crash issues at that time. Current release is unplayable on modern Windows because of that.
A classic with some unresolved problems. Niche but worth a buy if you like me are fan of x-com and zombies. Hope "Urban Strife" could surpass this game in quality and became a Dead State 2.0
The story line (as far as i managed to play) is really nice, the hidden quests etc. You really feel like you have to fight the zombie apocalypse BUT! The game is crashing left right and center!!! You want to go to sleep? Crash! You want to go to an area? Crash! You want to go upstairs? Crash! You get the point. Apart from the constant crashing that can get you off the immersion the rest are pretty good. I would recommend the game if it was cheaper but 20€ for a game that it is crashing all day i think are too much! If it was 15€ and with out crashing i would suggest this game hands down!
Gameplay Mechanics: 8/10
Narrative: 8/10
Graphics: 6/10
Sound and Music: 6/10
Replayability: 7/10
Innovation: 8/10
Dead State: Reanimated is a turn-based survival RPG that immerses players in the early days of a zombie apocalypse. The game adeptly combines base management, tactical combat, and character interaction, creating a multifaceted experience. Players are tasked with scavenging for resources, fortifying a shelter, and managing a diverse group of survivors, each with unique personalities and needs. The combat system is strategic, requiring careful planning and resource management, though it can become repetitive over time. Overall, the gameplay mechanics are engaging and challenging, earning an 8/10.
The narrative is compelling, focusing on the human element of survival. Character interactions and moral dilemmas add depth to the story, making players consider the consequences of their decisions. While the overarching plot is straightforward, the richness comes from the personal stories and relationships that develop, justifying an 8/10 for narrative.
Graphically, the game is functional but lacks polish. The visuals are reminiscent of older RPGs, with simple character models and environments. While this doesn't detract from gameplay, it doesn't enhance it either, resulting in a 6/10 for graphics.
The sound and music are adequate, featuring ambient tracks and sound effects that set the mood but don't leave a lasting impression. The audio design serves its purpose without standing out, earning a 6/10.
Replayability is moderate. While there are multiple difficulty settings and various survivor interactions, the core experience remains consistent across playthroughs. The game's structure doesn't offer significant variation, leading to a 7/10 for replayability.
Innovation is a strong point, particularly with the Reanimated update, which overhauled combat balance, improved AI, and added new areas and gameplay modes. These enhancements revitalized the game, making it more engaging and challenging, and earning an 8/10 for innovation.
In summary, Dead State: Reanimated offers a solid survival RPG experience with a focus on human relationships and strategic management. Despite its dated graphics and modest audio design, the game's depth and challenging mechanics make it a worthwhile journey for fans of the genre.
I like it but my stash inventory randomly disappeared, the inventories of my companions doesn't transfer to the stash when you get home and the game likes to crash and forget my graphics settings
Game crashes nearly constantly. Virtually unplayable. (I left my computer on while this was running, don't let the hours played fool you)
feels..........dead
Great game hope be some new game of same genre
It's a lot of fun. I haven't finished it yet
Great game
it's like State of Decay (1/2) but visually worse. and tactical fights are not giving it any good
Fun but janky RPG I can't recommend due to the plethora of crashes, I tend to crash 1-2 times per 1-3 hour play session
A few of my endings also bugged out, wouldn't acknowledge that I had met the criteria.
One of the endings is one of the purest male fantasies out there 10/10 for that alone
It is crazy that this game came out in 2014!! A lot of the small details about a pandemic sweeping the globe and the public's attitude towards it, especially the little bits of lore you find and can read in the school's library, still ring true to our attitudes towards the covid pandemic.
That game play is right up my alley, point and click, turn-based strategy, with some very easy to understand and practical base building.
I just really, really, REALLY wish the game wouldn't crash every 30 minutes or so.
I played this game a lot, and genuinely miss it. But it fails to launch every time on newer systems. I'm actually sad my old POS laptop died, because apparently that was the last way I was going to be able to play this.
For anyone with an older system, it's a worthwhile buy, but know that your time with it is limited to the life of that device. The base building, turn-based combat, and looting/exploration was something I haven't found in another game yet. If the launch issue got fixed somehow, I'd recommend this game despite the dated graphics.
cool
The arts is too primitive. The mechanics as well. The end is anticlimatic.
good
It's janky. Fairly unstable. Apparently has troubles running on modern systems.
But damn, is it a good game. I've always liked the idea of a base-building game where you go out and loot a billion pounds of shit across the city to make a safe haven for people during a zombie apocalypse, and by god, that's what this is. It's also got some pretty damn good writing, especially with environmental storytelling. A bit dated in some of the references, but that's okay because they're references from a time when things were good and not beaten to death within 2 weeks.
Very janky, though.
I love this game and it scratches such a good itch. It's base-building, people management, player levelling with a skill tree, important dialogue choices, multiple endings, and turn-based combat with a sound mechanic.
It's so good, it's so insanely good.
It's old now, though. I've beaten the game with every difficulty modifier, gotten all the different endings, recruited everyone... Trust me. It's a cheap, but really good strategic zombie game.
It's a bit of a pain to run now, I honestly just open it up in compatibility mode and it runs fine for me. The only real bug I ever encountered is that the game absolutely CHUGS when having to deal with multiple floors of zombies (not human survivors) that are aggroed in real-time mode. Just force-enter turn-based and it should calm down and run better.
Unbelievable that this game actually came one year later than Wasteland 2, it looks and plays like something from the late 90's. Repetitive and unbalanced.
