Agarest: Generations of War includes many unique features that cannot be found in any other Strategy Role Playing Game. Here's a summary of some of the best:Extended Area
Extended Area is the "Linked Area" set for both your party and your enemies. Each character in the game has a uniquely shaped extended area. When a character's turn comes around, all other characters in the Extended Area of the character in play (and characters in the extended areas of those characters!) can combine in an extended attack. This allows you to chain your party's attacks together, allowing access to more Arts and huge Combos!
Blacksmith's Guild
You can upgrade various Items and Equipment at the Blacksmith's Guild in two different ways:
By Enhancement: You can enhance equipment to a maximum of Level 5. Once an Item is enhanced to Level 5, you can convert the Item, changing it into something else. This process is irreversible and the original item is lost. Experimentation reveals some great new items!
Through Alchemy: Alchemy allows you to combine several items to create a single, more powerful piece of equipment. While you lose the items used in the alchemy, you gain a powerful new piece of equipment and permanent access to your new item in the Shop! Alchemy can create powerful new weapons and armour but occasionally a Smithing Accident will occur and the smith will create a different item than what you expected!
The "Soul Breed" system
Agarest takes place across 5 generations of heroes, starting with your first character, Leonhardt. During each generation you will build relationships with 3 different female party members, and at the end of each generation's story arc you must choose to marry one of the girls.
Your choice of marriage partner is restricted to girls who've grown fond of you over a particular generation. Your options are determined by your choices during conversations at certain points of the story.
The girl you choose as your wife - and the strength of their relationship with you - will determine the abilities of the main character in the next generation of the story. You'll have to experience multiple play throughs to see all of the character possibilities open to you! What heroes might you create?

Basic Pack - A basic package. It contains 1 each of Resurrect, Capture, and Resist Direction, 2 each of Heal and Refresh, and 5 Vessels of Life.Offense-Defense Pack- Contains 1 Adaka, 1 Shield Sword, 1 Bird Eye, 1 Magic Frame, 1 Critical Hit, and 2 Seeds of Happiness.
Additional-Points Pack 1 - Contains 10,000G, 100PP, 250TP, and 500EP.

Really boring. Didn't like the gameplay at all.
The controller is somewhat slow, but the story is fun and interesting.
The main reason i cant get into, nor recommend this assload of a game is the fact that you get literally handed a ton of cheats when you start. Despite uninstalling the dlc you still recieve a literal TON of just plain cheats that trivialise everything in the game to the point of rendering the entire experience moot.
Even on the toughest difficulty you oneshot EVERYTHING. If i wanted to experience a story involving Anime characters id watch a show, not play a really slow game thats mindrottingly easy.
And to the people thinking things such as "Just dont use it", you also recieve a metric ton of gold, and skillpoints and unlike the Godtier gear you receive, you cant just opt out of using it - which again, gives you WAY too much power early on.
I suppose if you're looking for an alternative to watching paint dry, you could do worse than playing this game, its got shiny colours after all, so if you're the type of person that hates any type of challenge or being forced to use even a % of your brain when playing games, this might be for you - its not for me however.
Bland characters, boringly convoluted story built on clique with a combat system being a very poor rip-off of Disgaea. All coated in a poor translation resulting in choices being aggravatingly random!

Let me Preface this with a simple statement - I have not completed Agarest. I haven't even finished the first Generation of the game which should be an exceedingly easy thing to do. I've made the decision after 20-Hours of Grinding that this game is simply not for me. I like grinding games quite a bit and, I'm sure, if I got farther it might actually be enjoyable.
This lies in the reason that I am putting it down now, however, as it shouldn't take this long for the game to catch my interest. It is a slow burn but - I am going to recommend this game still.
I am going to recommend it because it is built for two separate Audiences. Those that like Visual Novels and those that like Tactical Based RPG Games. If you like both of these types of games, and don't mind a grind, I can recommend Agarest. If you like one of these, the Tactical Side, this game has a lot of potential from the ground-up with positioning, alone, and the available skills. It does, however, have a huge grind behind it. One that is required for you to actively get what you need.
I recommend this game because of the potential it has even if I, myself, will not be playing it or the sequels. I recommend it on the idea that the person buying it is interested in this type of game and can put up with a slow combat system and vast amounts of grinding that may, or may not, get better near the end.

This game was definitely one of the games I'd love to play as it has been in my wishlist for years iirc, and I pretty much wasted a lot of time to try and learn the mechanics through different walkthroughs and guides of other players when I first started without them—and I must say this... this game is terrible to the player playing it. I deeply regretted wasting my hard earned money just to play this.
If there was an option to "Do you recommend this game?", I would definitely voted, DEFINITELY NO!
These are the things that I hated:
No skip button for the Visual Novel-like dialogues—as the transitions were seriously slow like that of a snail.
Battles are freakishly slower, as the overkill feature is definitely not a fun function to the game; being strong doesn't mean anything if the battles are too long, as it makes the game more exhausting than being a game that should be more fun.
Characters designs and voices are okay, if not for the hideous VN-like storytelling—damn slow. Even old games weren't like this, and has a faster rate of getting finish.
At this time, I already accumulated around 5 hrs of gameplay already and I'm still in the road after leaving the pink-girls' hometown or village... and I would really like a refund right about now... (But since I bought this at sale and it's already past the two week refund of Steam's policy, as well as the 2 hr mark—yeah, I pretty much wasted my money here.
I am forced to play this? Nope, I will rather not.
and after a long, grueling, of how to fasten the battles, an AI answered me and it's now faster... faster battles but it made the battles longer than I expected. That overkill feature again!
If they made ane changed how they deliver the story, I'd buy this again, but for now, I only see bad things awaiting me.
Let me start by saying I really wanted to like it. It's only $4, and I love SRPG-esque games. It even comes included with a bunch of add-ons for free. So I thought this would be a home-run. But...even though I really tried to like it, I just can't. The combat just feels weird and bad and outdated. That's all I'll say about that. As far as the story goes...well, I havent even gotten far into the story, but so far it is just WEIRD. Dude wakes up from a dream and decides to risk it all for some random elf girl after years of being a commander in the army that he was even formerly the prince of?? Like ?????? Hello? Just based on that I can tell I'm likely not going to enjoy slogging through this.
It's far more expensive (relatively), but Tactics Ogre is proving to be insanely superior in quality. This game might only be $4 but I'm strongly contemplating a refund because I dont think I'll ever be pining to play a SRPG and pick this over Tactics Ogre and it's kinda just depressing me being in my library at this point.
