If I got anything out of my foray into hardboiled point-and-click detective shlock, it’s that too many writers don’t know what humans sound like. Terrified of whiffing on a joke or dragging progression to a halt, the meta stumbled towards driving the story forward, whatever the cost. The cost, of course, are ensemble casts rife with milquetoast nothing. No one has a moment to breathe or to bond.
NOTR has… a lot wrong with it, but credit where credit’s due, it genuinely reads like a fairytale. Characters are given time to ramble nonsense, and when it’s colorful nonsense, it’s very cozy, even when the audio editing screws it up a good chunk of the time. If NOTR was 8 hours of literally just Mr. Churchmouse, this would be a positive review!
Unfortunately, Matthias Kempke seems much better suited to short fables than lore-laden adventures. Those awkward forays into short-lived dimensions only drag us away from the perfectly charming world we already built in Mousewood. When our rabbit gets pulled back in for that final lore dump… you kinda realize you’ve barely seen him at all.
A fantastic point+click adventure game in the style of the classics. Plenty of puzzles and fetch quests, a charming story, and beautiful game design. Very much enjoyed every minute of it! It's not super difficult, but very entertaining.
Not Recommended
This is a really solid game with a little bit of everything. The story is fantastic and it has beautiful - and at times unsettling - music, and the scenery is gorgeous. There are characters with their own little plots and lives, and those plots and lives feel like they could continue even after the end of the story. There were a few little bugs, like collecting everything and getting the trophy for it but then the item I was collecting for believed there was still one left, and I would have liked it if the go-fish variant was a little quicker, but it was overall a good time in a pretty world that I wouldn't have minded seeing more from.
Good art. Good story. More than a typical Point-and-Click. If you don't mind this genre of some time randomly clicking and walking the entire map looking for a puzzle piece you are not sure what it looks like, this is a gem of its kind. The answers can be nonsensical at times.
This is such a fun game, and I love the story so much. I go back to it over and over whenever I need a comfort game to play. The puzzles can be tricky, but none are overly frustrating to figure out.
What a great vibe with a cute Story and sweet details.
I can't stop myself from being sorry for Zaroff though
Night of the Rabbit quickly established itself as one of my all time favorite games. The atmosphere and art are enchanting and lovely, i truly enjoyed spending time in each of the scenes. The story was fun too, even if some of the tasks seemed a tad moon-logic-y. The characters are cute and interesting and i want to learn more about them and spend time with them in game. Night of the rabbit is a treat to play, i highly recommend it.
I really wanted to like this game. The main problem I have is that it just doesn't seem feasible to complete without some kind of outside help, or a ton of time invested in walking through the same places over and over - and touching every item in your inventory to every item in the environment. The game lacks a clear guiding system from what I can find, and I found it difficult to figure out what my main goal was or to keep track of all of the side quests. You know its a huge pain when even the guides get confusing. And I really dislike having to use guides as it ruins the sense of accomplishment at the end.
Its really unfortunate because I find the whole concept and story to be very interesting. The art style is really cool to look at and I did enjoy the characters and scenery. Unfortunately I can't recommend this game unless you are really prepared to get frustrated and don't mind following a guide.
Night of the Rabbit has all the good ingredients of what I like in a point-and-click adventure game: great backgrounds(with day and night cycles), colorful art, a host of animal characters, bunches of collectibles, nice music, even a card mini-game.
Unfortunately for me, it seems aimed much younger than most of Daedalic's catalogue. The sarcastic wit is very light, and wackiness and weirdness tamed down. I do think it's probably the perfect game for a parent and child to play together. It has a pretty long length(dialogue is a bit long and repeats portions, which is probably good for kids), puzzles are mostly easier with a few convoluted exceptions, it even has audiobook stories to play for your kid going to bed!
Overall a fine adventure game, it kind of feels a bit overlong by the end. Nice Whispering World reference too!
This was one of the first games I ever wishlisted on Steam and I finally picked it up. I have no idea why I slept on it so long. Absolutely beautiful and has aged well. Works on the steam deck flawlessly with the latest Proton version and the top rated community controller layout.
Anyone complaining it's too complicated, open the steam overlay and browse the walkthrough right there. This is what point and click games have always been like. The solutions are often hidden so well a guide is required.
you can really tell how much love was put into this game. from the music & endearing characters, to humorous dialogues and fun collectibles ^-^ one of the best point and clicks i've eva played !!
At times charming, at times infuriating, it's hard for me to recommend this game despite all that it has going for it. It has beautiful artwork, excellent voice acting where every interaction is fully voiced, a cute diverse cast of characters, and a cozy atmosphere. However, this point and click struggles with many in its genre with the eternal problem of moon logic.
Most games would remedy this by having a hint system, which this one does, but it is ABYSMAL. The hint system is so vague that it often doesn't even refer to the specific puzzle that you're on, instead talking about your overarching goals which could consist of a dozen puzzles to reach. Considering how linear this game is, there is no excuse for not having a hint system that isn't more specific. The difficulty shouldn't be defined by a lack of information. The tone and atmosphere of this game is clearly directed toward children, but I could easily see both children and adults finding certain puzzles to be a waste of time, especially with how slow the pacing of the game is.
When the game is at its prime, it's fun and immersive with a flow that carries you through its story line. When it's at its worst, it makes you wonder why you're doing all of this because the reward simply isn't worth it. I love point and click games, but I can't recommend playing this one without a guide.
I’m reluctant to give The Night of the Rabbit a "Not Recommended" rating, even though I haven’t finished it yet. There’s a clear love and care put into the beautiful art, which brings a charming atmosphere to the game’s world. However, some of the quests feel oddly structured and don’t always flow naturally, making progression a bit confusing at times. Beyond that, it’s the story and characters that ultimately failed to pull me in—I found myself appreciating the setting and visuals more than feeling invested in the adventure itself. It’s a game that’s rich in atmosphere but, for me, lacked the captivating narrative spark to keep me fully engaged
Good Point and Click
PRACTICAL TIP:
You can double click on the exits of your current map to move to the next map immediately (instead of your character walking there slowly). This will likely save you a lot of time and frustration.
REVIEW:
This game has great artwork, a warm atmosphere, and fun ideas on how to interact with the surroundings (through spells etc.). Many of the characters are cute and likeable.
Unfortunately, an unnecessarily convoluted story implemented badly into the game ruined the experience for me.
Towards the end, a lot of stuff just made me go: “um … and what does this have to do with what I’ve been playing through …?!”
Well made ♥ Love it!
I have played this game so many times over the years, and it is still one of most favorite games to come back to.
Amazing
This little game is a hidden gem, and not actually so little!
If you're smarter than me and don't want to check every little nook and cranny, you can still get good 15 hours out of this point and click game.
Pros:
- Cute engaging story about a boy who lived who became a magician's apprentice and saved cute animals from a terrible curse
- World building is good
- Nice music
- Pretty visuals
- Almost all puzzles make sense
- There's a ton of extra content (audiobook, achievements, collectibles)
- Nice card game that you can play as long as you like
- The game is quite long as well, considering the price
Cons:
- Practically none actually, just the loudness of music versus voice acting was annoying sometimes, but can be fixed in settings
If you like the world and the characters, I believe there's also a sequel as an audiobook that you can check out!
All in all, great game, definitely recommend it!
it is a good game except for the voice actors too bad there will never be a sequel 8/10
Lots of story. Nice puzzles. Nice music, nice artwork. Nice voice work. Great quality.
Got the game in a bundle, so with a discount and it was definitely worth the gamble. Deadalic Entertainment point and click adventures are great in general.
Ein schöne Geschichte
this is one of my favorite point click, i'v been playing it for few time in few years.
i love the peaceful vibe and the art is lovely as well as the music
