I've spent an actual hour trying to get this to look even remotely close to what it's supposed to and I have simply found no solution.
I slightly recommend this game, because of its age.
The base game, unfortunately, was quite buggy, requiring the unofficial patch to play smoothly.
The game design choices sometimes led to intense frustration.
The controls felt outdated and hindered the experience.
Despite these issues, the atmosphere was terrific. And, I wish there was more game like this one.
So, if you really wish to play and have enough sanity and patience, you should try...
I also think that 800x600 looks more atmospheric than 1920x1080.(Even though ı did play most of it at 1920x1080)
unplayable, crashes constantly fifteen minutes into the start and keeps crashing at the same spot. this game should be removed from steam its unplayable in its current state better to play it on GOG. shame too this looked like a good old horror game to play for Halloween.
DO NOT BUY THIS ON STEAM BUY IT ON GOG, PATCHES DON'T WORK ON STEAM VERSION YOU CAN'T FINISH THE DAMN GAME THEY ROBBED ME OF MY VICTORY
Game unplayable due to constant crashes.
This game is Absolutely amazing. Way ahead of it's time, story is fantastic, mechanics are fairly simply to get used too. Adrenaline pumping levels......A must play for any horror game enthusiast.
Call of Crashullu
Amazing game ruinned by constant crashes. Sadly its not playable anymore.
Way too many game breaking bugs.
I stopped tolerating them when I got to chapter 7 and the blue lights.
Unplayable, crashes constantly. Otherwise very clunky mechanics but decent looking and effective atmosphere. Seemed to have an interesting story... at least as far as I could progress before the game breaking bugs. Bummer.
Pretty good, if you can stomach that old-game jankiness. Personally, I thrive on it.
Just google and download the absolutely CRITICAL patch to fix game breaking bugs .
Gameplay: 7/10 - a fun shooter with long stretches of walking.
Story: 7/10 - what can I say, one of the rare games based on the Cthulhu-mythos.
Graphics: ... - They have not aged well but that's to be expected.
While sometimes an absolute slog to get through, this is certainly an old FPS worth revisiting if you don't mind getting around the jank and using a guide along the way. The combat is shallow but fun, the stealth is the same. Idk, just good schlock i guess. Got stuck several times and a gamebreaking bug locked my progress during the final bossfight. 10/19
you know the game will crash but dont know when, horror of unknowable
To play this game on a modern computer you will need:
1) A copy of the retail executable (CoCMainWin32.exe), and
2) The community patch (DCoTEPatch) by Sucklead, and
3) Widescreen fix by ThirteenAG
Links to all three can be found on PCGamingWiki. Install the widescreen fix, replace the CoCMainWin32 executable installed by steam with the retail version, then use DCoTEPatch on the retail executable to, at the very least, "Fix FPS to 60" and "Modify blue light shader", but I also recommend "Modify skybox shader", skip legal and startup videos, "Always show Extended End Movie", and adjusting your FOV to whatever you find comfortable. At the very end of the game, after defeating the final boss, I strongly recommend using the patcher to modify your "Walking Speed" to 999.9 (trust me, Running Speed does nothing). Don't bother with "Double time for escape sequence", it won't help unless you also boost your speed.
As for the game itself: it's fun! I didn't find it scary, but the gameplay is good and the story is excellent. Most of the bad reviews are due to it being an old game that doesn't run well on modern computers, but I had no problems once it was patched. My only complaint is the checkpoint-save system, and then only because the devs, in their infinite wisdom, decided it was a good idea to place a checkpoint before a loooooong section of walking/dialog/unskippable cutscenes/all of the above, followed by 1) an intense action sequence that you will likely fail on your first (and maybe several) attempt(s), and/or 2) an area of uncertain forward direction that you'll need to navigate by trial-and-error-and-failure until you finally master the route. I get that it eliminates save-scumming, but jesus h christ put the checkpoint after the loooooong section of walking/dialog/unskippable cutscenes/all of the above, not before it you sadists. Sometimes I wonder if devs bother to play their own games.
Lastly, don't hesitate to refer to a walkthrough when you feel stuck. The game is solvable without a guide, but due to the stupid checkpoint system it's a waste of your time to try. IDK maybe some people think it's fun to repeat the same 10 minute section over and over and over until you figure it out on your own, but I do not.
2 minute TLDR:
Never beat this one but its pedigree is legendary on Youtube. A random Bethesda game that happened in the 00's, kinda janky and weird, but has a charmingly creepy atmosphere. I would suggest it for that alone, however the game may be tough to run, so do your research before buying/grab on sale.

aşırı buglı ama oyun fena değil
Avoid this buggy broken mess. Going in, from others' reviews and comments, I knew I would have to patch a few things - no big deal, done it dozens of times and never failed before. Despite a bugfix patch updated earlier this year, many gamebreaking bugs persist and this is one of the few games I have to abandon halfway due to one. If you really need to get your supernatural, horror, or H.P. Lovecraft fix, many have commented that the GOG version doesn't have the same issues. There is also Call of Call of Cthulhu (2018) that is phenomenal in its own right.
From what I was able to experience, the game does story, lore, atmosphere, and pacing well. It doesn't hold your hand and it doesn't hold back - this might filter some, but it should be easy enough for everyone else. That said, I cannot recommend the Steam version.
One of the buggiest ports of a game I've ever played, crashes on every level, last boss impossible to beat even with on line fan patches, don't' waste your money and buy the GOG version
If you play this you'll probably experience very early-game crashes that prevent you from progressing through the game. Who actually thought that Bethesda could publish a game that wasn't a buggy mess? I for one had to find a fix to this on Internet Archive and completely replace this game for that in my steam folder. If you can do that, you'll likely have a fairly descent game with a linear story progression, however I would not recommend buying this from Steam.
Played this on the original xbox, this version is much better. Very underrated game.
It is enjoyable, but get ready to jump through some patch-hoops to make it run on modern systems.
