It is a beautifully made game. A lot of cute details and design elements everywhere you look. So much craft and effort went into building this little world.
I like that the puzzles are simple but not obvious - they actually make you work and thing to get past them.
Sometimes I'd get stuck due to the game's programming (sometimes you can interact or go somewhere only if you stand at certain places so you end up clicking all over the screen just to make sure). I guess it comes from the effort to not make interactive elements obvious. So yeah.. the controls are a bit clunky, but beautiful game.
One of the first games I've ever played and a game that influenced me a lot was The Neverhood chronicles and this had a very similar vibe. (definately better than Armikrog, which was another atempt from Neverhood's team)
i promise you in the trailer vividly remember the ship flying off when it moved back and forth. like i’m serious i remember the trailer showing that
Oh my... what an amazing and unique piece of art. The rather short game itself is pleasantly entertaining and the puzzles are all quite solvable without any frustrating moments. But in my eyes, the real masterpiece is the art behind the game. Everything you can see on the screen has been handcrafted using paper, cardboard, motors and miniature lights. The entire city was made as one large, connected model. The gameplay was captured with cameras using stop-motion technology and great use of depth of field. All together it took three years to create the game. I am so very impressed and recommend watching the corresponding documentary on YT after playing the game.
Lumino City is a beautiful game to look at but suffers a little with its execution as a puzzle game, so overall I was left feeling more glad to have finished it rather than enjoying the experience of it.
I felt that some clickable areas are obvious, but it can be difficult to spot others and you can just end up clicking on everything in the hope you can interact with it. Other areas are highlighted when they need to be clicked at a certain time.
Some puzzles suggest they require you find items when you already have them (and they are not in your bag) after previous puzzles require you to find items and add them to your bag, which is misleading.
A lot of the puzzles are 'switch toggle' or trial and error which are more time consuming than fun to solve.
On the plus side, one really good feature is that there is a manual of solutions, but there are mini puzzles in the contents to allow you to quickly find the correct pages, which is a nice compromise if you get stuck.
Absolutely stunning. The art and design of the game is top-tier and a joy to look at. Some of the puzzles are quite simplistic and straight-forward but it is a joy to play and is beautiful to look at.
A lot of work and care has been put into this game. The artwork is amazing. It has lots of puzzles, but unfortunately some of them are not very enjoyable. Definitely worth playing though.
Still worth playing in 2025. Perfect handmade design.
Played before on other device but I have to say that it's better on PC.
Love the art direction
definitely one of the games of all time
The game is a handcrafted piece of art. Has a couple of bugs here and there, but nothing major. There are roughly 20 to 30 puzzles, of which about 4 or 5 are simply nonsensical--which is a low enough percentage. Story is a tad poor, but there was no real need for a complex story, since the game visuals were very compelling and immersive. The ending left me wanting, true. And one other thing I'll never understand is the need to include such a massive handbook in the inventory that was not even used nor referenced at all. Still, highly recommendable.
i enjoyed the lighting. felt personal, and comforting. puzzle game. love the layers
I bought this many years ago and couldn't finish it then as it was a bit hard, I recently saw it in my library and thought to finish it, 80% of it is a treat and a great audio visual little story, but figuring out what to click on and how many of x thing was in a scene to count to get the correct page number was a bit annoying. I had to resort to a guide a couple times just cause I couldn't figure out for the life of me what i was missing, turns out it was a coat hanger on a radio.... The actual visual quality of some of the Images where really varied, some really pixelated and blured shots.
Overall I would recommend it after finally finishing it after all those years. Just wish there was more tactile puzzles and less random clicking around to figure it out
It's very nice to look at and pleasant at times. But I found it easy to get stuck and needed walkthrough help once I got to the water wheel. Then I needed another one for the very next task. At this point I began to think this game may not be good for me to play. I'm neurodivergent so my experience may be uncommon. I really wanted to play but the puzzles frustrate me and I have low frustration tolerance due to my brain chemistry. Admittedly my medication has worn off at this point in the evening. I may feel differently in the morning once the dose kicks in. Overall if you have a moderate to high frustration tolerance or don't mind relying on walkthroughs, give this game a shot. If none of those things apply to you, then this is likely not a good game for you. That's okay, just as people can't be everything to everyone, games can't be either.
Hours:Price not worth it as I got <6 hours. I did use the hint book on a couple puzzles, but I think I also sat there dumbfounded for an equal amount of time. The graphics are really cool. The game crashes a lot and depending where it crashes you'll have to repeat puzzles, and I don't think there's a manual save option.
Some of the time I spent not knowing what to do was because I clicked on something that I needed but it didn't register so I thought it wasn't usable.
Fantastic little puzzle game. A unique experience in the best possible way :)
